Yea, I got it on RIM Prepaid for 23,500. I got 8,500 worth of recharge absolutely free of charge, cool deal huh?

Note: I don’t know where the term camera-phone came from, but since I cant call it a watch-camera-phone, I’m going to refer to it as watch-phone from now on.

Finally here, my lovely new Telson TWC-1150. It took RIM 5 Days to fly one in here (I’m in Bangalore) from Delhi. So, when the bell rang at 9:30 this morning, and I open the door to find a DHL Deliveryman with a package just the right size, I knew what it was.

On first look, the package is very impressive; the watch phone is packed inside an aluminum armored case. This case is meant for being a traveling case. A case for carrying your watch through rain (yes its water-proof!!!) and other physical conditions.

Then comes the real thing, the watch phone itself (Larger then I expected). I got quite carried away at that moment, that without checking out the other contents of the bow inserted the battery and switched it on, I also got quite a scare following that as I got a message ‘Please Check Radio Unit’. Opening the ‘Quick Start Guide’ I realized that I had not inserted the UIM card (yes it’s not a typo, UIM Card, Not SIM) Which I found Neatly Packed in one compartment of the case. UIM or User Information Module is a smartcard similar to GSM SIM cards. The difference being, these are used in CDMA handsets. I quickly snapped out the center of the UIM and inserted it into my watch-phone.

Contents of the box are:
• Desk Stand
• Travel Charger
• Attachable Camera
• Finger Receiver
• Wireless Headset
• Aluminum Case with carrying Strap
• Most Importantly: The Telson TWC-1150 Watch Phone.

Surprise!! The battery is fully charged. Out from a sealed Polythene packaging the battery comes fully charged. However I let this baby charge for 5 hours more, till the led on the desk stand turned green. The battery gives 250 hours of standby and 8-10 hours of talk time, very impressive for a phone, not well for a watch. However, I make the compromise. Realistically I would expect 3-4 days before charging fully.

This baby is 3G CDMA2000x1 it supports 3Gx1RTT Data up to 230 Kbps. However this cannot be used as a modem for your PC or Laptop. Sad, Also even on the phone, you can only use specific data applications, the WAP browser has been locked by RIM so that only Specific thing can be done. (e.g. Upgrade watch software, R-World etc.) Even R-World is Text only.

The camera is below average ( I need to keep reminding myself that this is a watch not a camera phone) it supports up to 640x480 and is comparable to the old t68i attachable camera in quality.

The Screen: This is the most impressive part of the whole watch package is the screen. 128x96 pixels, even though its only 256 colors, it looks very high resolution. The pixels are quite close together. It’s brilliant and quite easily visible even with the backlight turned off. It’s easily read in the sun, even in normal room lighting with the backlight off. With the backlight on its nice and bright.

I’ll write more as and when I find more to write about.

Meanwhile here are some pictures to go with the review.(Excuse the poor quality)

OMG! I think I am in love!

to be honest, I think I would be more interested in a phone that was slim, small, and worked.

I mean, it didn't need that huge fourway buttons.

Just a watch, that could call. No need for a color screen, and special functions, nothing.

That would appeal to me.

perhaps a bluetooth function? That synced with your mobile, so when it's in your pocket you could look at your watch? And answer with a speaker phone or headset.

They could pack that in nicely.

There are plenty of those available, watches with just simple phone functions and no colr screen, camera etc. But that would defy the purpose of this device, Its just ment to have a feel. It has everything, Though not the best of everything, just its all there. eg. It has a camera, not the best, but its there.

What you need is a bluetooth headset type device in a watch form.( Maybe a bluetooth watch-set )

@plasmadog :
Thats the fitst thing i thought when i was sitting in McDonalds and talking throug the speakerphone

Posted by vineet_d
Dude where are the tech specs. ?

Posted by plasmadog
the bangalore mcdonald's sucks man!! i somehow don't like the way it tastes.

so, everytime u need to use the headset, does it need to have line of sight? or does it have a wire?

can u upload any of the pics from the cam?
how is the voice clarity?

thanks.

Posted by Debu
@Vineet : Dude, I'll post the tech specs later today, i have the link to their site at home.

@plasmadog : Yes the wireless headset works on line of sight, but the angles are quite large and it works upto 2 meters. Voice clarity is average, the sound on the speakerphone is too loud, that spoils the quality a little bit. The finger reciever makes up for it.

Pics for the cam:

Small:160x120

Large:640x480

Not bad at all, the cam pics are good too I want this gadget.

Posted by Debu
@vineet: these pics i had taken in good light, the pictures in dark conditions are not so good.

Posted by plasmadog
i agree.. pics do look good for such a small device!!!probably lil better than a t610.

what about sending sms? is that easy to accomplish when u are wearing it?
do reliance give a warranty on this device? and is service available?

Posted by getagrip15
That is a rediculous looking device. I can't put into words how utterly stupid one would look wearing that in public. It should only be worn in the privacy of your home or at places like Star Trek conventions where you are expected to look dumb. Sorry I hate it. It's friggin huge.

Posted by Debu
@plasmadog : Reliance Offers 3years Parts and labour warranty.

@getagrip15 : to each his own, dude.
