I would just like to congratulate laffen on the great job he has done with the search function. I use it quite a lot and the way he has made the format is great. Thanks again for the work you are doing in this forum.
PS: Use the search function guys!!!!!!!!!!

I like the new way of presenting the search results.
Congratulations Laffen! Another feather in that too feathery cap of yours

I must search for smtg and try it out!!!

Did you notice the new look of the search interface? It sure looks like less intimidating
Laffen, could you also allow the option to limit the search to a particular thread?
Posted by arnoldc
Gowin, searching the thread alone would be a nightmare. :-D

Arnold, Not for the users though, just for laffen - hehehe.

About the smilies :-), would't it be great if the images were exchanged to the in-built smilies for wap readers? I have noticed how my GPRS byte count has gone up considerably since the smilies were introduced.
Posted by riflogic
Indeed, a good job done there; which would hopefully cut down on the same questions being repeated
Posted by jas
It wouldn't work for all the smilies of course, but on sufficiently many to make it useful. The rest can remain images. I also think the built-in smilies look better since they can be incorporated in the text rather than being on a separate row.

@jas, i like the suggestion about the smileys and wap but it's off topic here ;-)

what happened to the advance search feature?

You know how, when you want to include a quote in your reply a grey box appears asking if we're sure we want to include the quote. Wouldn't it be good to have a similar warning grey box appear when you want to start a whole new topic. It could say something similar to what is already said on the page for starting a new topic (use FAQ, Search Etc.) but it might be more eye catching than what is already there and make some people stop and think a bit more and save the same question being asked over and over. Just a suggestion to promote the use of the best feature on the site. Until then... keep Searching!

yea gd idea actually korova. coz its normally all the newbies posting these new threads which have already been answered bfor.

Seeing as how the Search function is so obviously underused, can you not make it a bigger button?
For example, accross the top of the page you could make it as big as:
Forum Home Search >>New Topic >>Post Reply
Surely something needs to be done about the vast numbers of topics that are being repeated over and over again.

Along the same lines as the previous post, couldn't the FAQ buton be bigger and moved to the top of the page?
I'm sure making the Search and FAQ buttons more prominent on the page would help cut down the ammount of repeated posts and topics.

better idea - the FAQ's should load when you are about to start a new post - then you can back up & read them - will save time & money.

Is there a problem with the search algorithm?
I am having some strange results or problems recently (or may be its just me only)
Just an example now, if I search for “billionton” with in the body and the title, I only get 9 topics which does not include
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=18817&forum=18&start=80
This topic has this word in many posts.
Similar when you search with the author. In fact you can not search for the author only. It may be very handy if we can search all the posts by author only?
Any commends
