Speeding up GPRS browsing on a laptop

AOL, Netzero, and others have been pushning their accelerated browsing technology for a while now. It works by compressing HTML data at their server and uncompressing with their software client on your PC. All you have to do is set your browser to use their proxy client, and it's supposed to make a quite a diference. Can anyone think of a better use for this than GPRS browsing on a laptop?
Netzero now offers this same client/server compression for "broadband" (where it's not really needed anyway). though it SHOULD work for GPRS because the compression is completely independant of your ISP, modem, or browser. I can't get it to work on my system though, I'm wondering if Tmobile blocks port 7900?

just a quick reminder that Opera also provide a similar capability in their Mobile Accelerator
