Im a total newbie when it comes to phones that can actually "do more things than call people". Ive already made a post on the tech board cause the IR is driving me nuts as well.
Right now i have a t637 brand new from cingular and im on the $29.99 plan with no extra features (so i guess that means im being billed by the KB usage whenever i surf the net on my phone.
does it makes sense to get an internet plan if i only plan on using it every so often?
also, what is WAP i keep hearing about and how is it different from normal internet access on my phone
is there additional charge for WAP usage?
anyway, i apologize if i sound completely new and uninformed but i figured if there was any place to learn about my new phone this was it.
Thanks

Welcome here! U should contact your operator and let u inform abov the charges of wap csd and wap gprs. At the first u pay for the time u browse, at the second for the downloaded data amount. They can send u the settings via sms and u just have to store it.

thanks!
also, what about linking my phone to my gmail account so i can check mail on my phone when i want to
how does that work?
is that something seperate?

Gmail has no wap access, the only application works in p9 series as i know to reach the gmail acc via fone.

U can acces gmail account via your phone email pop3 client but first you need to activate pop3 acces from gmail settings. Also, i think that the pop3 and smtp addresses must be entered as IP (so it worked on my t300). Do a ping (from ms-dos prompt - 'ping address' to pop3/smtp gmail address

@dsf great. I didnt know that works.

Wap means wirelles application protocol. Wap uses wml and xhtml. The wap pages are designed for devices with small screen. @bobafet gmail offers pop3 acces for about a mounth..

@dsf what are the incoming and outgoing server names and port settings? @str sorry for offtopic

also, if someone with knowledge on IR for this phone can look at my other problem: http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=76372
id really appriciate it

U can let to send the email settings from your operator, if u have one at your operator. Whats your other problem?
Posted by DSF
Incoming = pop3, outgoing = smtp. The addresses must be ip. (also dont forget to activate pop3 from gmail.google.com). And also watch out that gmail uses other port for smtp instead of default one. For addresses read gmail pop3 help (somewhere in settings i think or 'new features'?) once u have logged in via web

@dsf thx

@dsf thx again. No pc now, dont u remember the port nrs?
Posted by DSF
Incoming server: pop.gmail.com, port: 995. Outgoing server: smtp.gmail.com, port: 465 or 587. Need an internet connection for this, and not a wap one (since the last one has almost all ports blocked)

How u mean not a wap one?
Posted by Stryder
what do you mean addresses have to be IPs?
how do i get the IPs
i have everything nin my phone exactly as that page u sent me shows (i found it earlier) and i saved my pop3 settings on gmail and it seems to sit on "finding server" forever
also, do i set connect using to roam, express or home?

@bobafet u must use the 'internet' apn and not the 'wap' apn. @stryder go to msdos promt (start-accesories) and write 'ping addres' (without ' ') and press enter (where 'addres' must be replaced with the gmail addresses, eg 'ping pop.gmail.com'). That's the ip, the number with *.*.*.* .. you have to write those numers (ip) instead the addres with words..

@dsf would it work in t68 too? Cos here isnt a wap or internet apn at email, only at the wap acc.
Posted by DSF
@bobafet try to use the account for wap with your email client. If it doesnt work ask your operator for internet settings. If a 'finding server' message stay for a long time, u probable use a wap-only settings

@dsf i use the email client with the settings u gave but doesnt work. Anyway, thx for the support!

@bobafet at username try 'you'@gmail.com and 'you'. Why exactly doesnt work? Have u activated the pop3 acces inside gmail settings (only via web possible? Incoming server: 64.233.171.109 / outgoing server: 64.233.171.109 (thx to mopilot.com/wml admintools)

@bobafet, at connect using you must select a data account for internet acces. For the data account ask your operator. I use the email feature of my T68, as @DSF said I have the internet acces account too.
Posted by BobaFett
@dsf so i have to set it first on web. Thx, gonna check it if i have pc access!
Posted by Stryder
ok i put in the IPs and its still sitting on that screen forever
Posted by BobaFett
So have the settings right? Turn off and on the fone.
Posted by DSF
Stryder take a look at the apn used for your email client. It should be an apn for internet connection
Posted by BobaFett
@str have u done the settings alone or did u store it after getting an sms from operator?
Posted by Stryder
ive only done the settings
what do i have to do with cingular?
