Wow! I'm impressed! Half-Life 2 ran smoothly on a DX 8 card! Well, actually, that makes sense, but you'd be missing out on all the cool Hardware-supported gizmos and effects the DX 9 cards have. Oh well, at least it looks pretty.
To be honest I'm still jealous, I don't have Half-Life 2 yet (legally) and the other version, well, lets just say it's old

Yeah, Half Life 2 has been known not to require the "monster" computers that Doom 3 did. But if you want to make the most of the game, you'd have to have more than a dirX 8 card ;-)

5200 s really poor gpu in dx9...I think u must upgrade it coz I suppose u cant play Farcry,DOOM III,Painkiller,Wolfestein,NFS4,Fifa Football 2005,Pro Soccer 4,Panzer,Men of Valor smoothly,and I noticed u use

my server.. the first oppgrade i had was for 2 months ago.. A Dual AMD Opteron 250 Core system. 2.4TB storage (4x 200 GB S-ATA disk and 4x 400 GB S-ATA Hitachi disks)

Um, the comparing the GeForce Mx440 with the 9800PRO is rediculous! Compare cards of the same class, like the 9800 with the FX5950 or whatever! The mx440 isnt even DX9!!
However ATI i agree is the better maker.

Just talked to a guy who claimed to have got his system to get 19000 3Dmarks in 03!
He has two 2Ghz processors a X800xt AGP with 512mb DDR, for internal memory he had 768mb...
Is this even possible? He said that he had some über cooling system, only air though...
If this is possible, would someone care to share some tips on how to get your graphics card to perform even better by just changing the cooling and maybe adding, moving some fans...

Stock air coolers on graphics cards are.. adequet.
However.. moving to a custome solution can help OC the card. I remember seeing where someone had masking tapes a Dragon Orb (thermaltake) to a TNT2 (remeber those?
) and got half life I think it was doing 400fps. Adding a hardcore cpu cooler to a graphics card though takes alot of stabilising and work in a case and isn't worth it imo, better ot look at water cooling and a GPU block.
More than likely what helped gained so many points were the dual CPU's in the system though the seems a little lowly. (Just pulkled a half gig out of my system last night due to suspected failureness :/ I don't know how people can live on 512 of ram
)
If you really want to get alot out of your system, try the forums at HardOCP and other places that will have people that can give great advice on overclocking and system performance.

Wow you guys have some fab graphic cards!! I have a plain old fx5200(overclocked to get a 10% boost) and as stated earlier it sucks at dx9 games but that i already knew before buyin...just wanted somethin better than mx440 but i can still get all games runnin(played painkiller at 1024*768 with all eye candy turned on
) so graphics card aint a issue...issue is i got just 256mb 266mhz ram(ok ok you can stop laughin now ) Couldnt even play hl2 tho doom3 ran ok at 800*600 and low settings. Damn i really need an upgrade...you guys make me jealous Btw my motherboard supports only agp4x while my card is 8x...do i get some noticable performance boost gettin a agp8x slot mobo? As for my processor its p4 1.7Ghz(overclocked to 2.0Ghz) williamette core(256kb cache etc)...how much improvement if i get p4 prescott 2.4Ghz?

clank, not to disappoint u,fx5200 is the worse dx9 gfx available now. i cant imagine to get a performance boost by plugging it to a 8x agp mobo . there is not much performance boost from agp 4x to agp 8x. willamite is a real old core , if u intent to change change it with prescott, change with the new prescott 6xx series not the 5xx prescott available now

Yup i know bout the dx9...i bought it for dx8 games not dx9 coz nvidia added only software support for dx9 just so it can come under latest cards category. Anyways even tho it wont run games in proper dx9 mode it still manages torun evrything n would actually perform well(800*600 res,medium settings and 30+ fps is my def of good) if i had good other components. Wat do you suppose is more imp...another 256mb ram or getting a prescott coz i'm runnin on a non-existent budget

At a moment i'll just go for ram i think. It seems to be the bottleneck, more so coz xp also takes a decent bit of ram. I'll just upgrade my processor straight away to a 64bit amd sometime later when i can afford it.

Every game wants 512mb of ram dont you think? Painkiller wanted 384 but still ran good tho with high load times, hl2 wanted 512 so it was often laggy. If gfx card was bottleneck dont you think games should run atleast in dx8 mode but hl2 wouldnt do even that...it had detected my card as dx8 hardware and videoram is also good(128mb 128bit) but still it lagged and was accessin my hard drive to often. Damn computer hardware becomes old too soon...
