Maybe someone can help ?
How I do connect my IPAQ 5450 to the Vodafone GPRS service via my V800 phone.
I have set the dial number to "*99***1#" and set up a Data account on the phone which has CID=1.
My init string is "+cgdcont=1,"IP","internet"".
I can get a good connection using an IRDA modem but not via bluetooth.
any ideas ?

I have exactly the same problem: I have a V800 and an iPaq 4150. I can connect the 4150 through the V800 to 3G GPRS using IrDA, but not through Bluetooth.
I have used the same iPaq successfully with T610, T68i, T39 with no problems, and have connected a PC to the V800 as well as the other devices.
I suspect that there is a problem with the two bluetooth stacks - it is very annoying. I know full well that each manufacturer is going to blame the other, so wonder how I can get this resolved... Grrrr!

Just to say that I have the same problem too, and finally came to the conclusion that there's no way to get this to work with the current firmware. I have 2 Voda SIM cards and 3 SE phones inlcuding the V800. Either SIM works fine in either of the other SE phone when establishing a Bluetooth dialup connection from my IPAQ. The V800 refuses with either of the SIMs. This wouldn't be so frustrating if the whole point of 3G wasn't high speed data!
As a matter of interest, has anyone successfully setup a Bluetooth dialup connection with a PDA other than an iPAQ?

Hi from Greece and Vodafone GR ...
i've got the same problem here with V800 and ipaq 4700 ...

I connect fine through bluetooth modem wtih my P910 & Z1010 but i can't connect with V800 ....I've tried everything for 2 days but nothing...
On the other hand i can transfer files beetwen them with bluetooth ....
The bad thing is that neither Vodafone knows anything about it...
I've tried to connect through USB from my desktop and its OK ...
I guess it's firmware's fault ..... Bad fo SE ...too Bad..
I'm VERY VERY dissapointed about this because this is the reason that i bought this phone ...
Hope they'll fix it SOON !!

With PC's it works fine. So iI think t's not a phone problem!

guys, just put a "z" (no quotes) at the start of your iPAQ modem init string and all will be well.
I had no problem doing this with the hx4700 and V800 and its the same issue with iPAQs and the K700

Yepp you are right.
I was just looking in my history to find the solution. It's a known problem with these Pocket PC's.
I think most of the customer care centers should be aware of this. ATZ is just "reset" the phone.

Just wanted to suggest that z solution - it's the same for K/S7

messsure .i dont understand what u mean by init string do u mean to put z*99# as a dial up number in ipaq modem??
Posted by TLG
No ..you put this under
START-->SETTINGS-->Connections-->connections-->Add a new modem connection -or if you have already one - manage existing connections
there you choose a name gor the connection and then you select a modem wich in our case is "bluetooth dialup modem" then "NEXT" you put the calling number something like *99***# then "next" ..
here you enter the user name and password if you have to or you leave it blank and choose "advanced" ...
HERE IS the "extra dial-string modem commands" wich the first letter must be z ..for example here in Hellas for Vodafone this string is : z+cgdcont=1,"IP","internet.vodafone.gr"

Does dial up number sound like initial string? ;-)

I have the same problem as some others here: my iPAQ 3870 with Bluetooth Manager 1.1 can't retrieve services from the V800 (but I can from T68i) and therefore I can't set the phone as a "Bluetooth Dial-Up Modem (otherwise the Blutetooth connection seems to work, e.g. I can bond the V800 and the iPAQ, I can browse and retrieve services from the iPAQ from inside V800).
I have got this problem confirmed today as an error from the Swedish Vodafone Technical Support. I have reported the error to SonyEricsson and to HP. Hopefully one of these parties will come up with a solution, and not just blame the two others.

The solution to your problem is already posted in this thread ....
(just put a "z" (no quotes) at the start of your iPAQ modem init string and all will be well. )

Probably I misunderstand something here, but what have "Connections" and the "z" to do with my iPAQ 3870 not being able to retrieve services from the v800 phone? Since I can't retrieve my phone's services, my iPAQ can't "see" my V800 as a "Bluetooth Dialup Modem" and therefore my connection will not work. Anyway, I tried putting a "z" in the init string, but that didn't help... and the reason is - I believe - the one stated in the previous sentence. Or am I wrong? If I use infrared instead of bluetooth, everything works fine (even without "z").

The solution is simple once you know what to do... here is a tried and tested method for a Vodafone branded V800 with a n iPAQ h2210:
1) Set the dialed number to *9***3# (as the internet APN has an ID of 3)
2) Set the Extra dial-string modem commands to... +cdgcont=1,"IP","Internet"
Works a good un... nice and fast over 3G

How could thiw work ? In your number you specify a CID = 3 and in your init string you specify 1 ... there is something wrong with your setup.
It work with the init string Z+CGDCONT=1,"IP","ApnOfYourProvider"
and the number *99***CID#

Still have this issue
V800 Z800 with ipaq 4150, no connection,. wont recognise dial up service have tried *9# and *9***1# and combinations thereof.
have 1.4.1 BT stack build 75. Did anyone on this string get this fixed, i know its looked like an issue since the SE 700 came out so hopefully either HP or SE have done SOMETHING???
i am in the US and using T Mobile as my carrier (GPRS)
all other services work gr8
thanks

I had the same problem with my S700i and iPAQ 5555. Since I was using T-Mobile USA, I only had to add the APN (internet3.voicestream.com) into the data settings of my phone under CID=1. My dial string was a simple *99# and nothing in my Advanced Init String. Now this setting worked perfectly for my PC, and also if I used my T68, T610, T630, K700. The problem was both my S700i and S710a. Again IR GPRS connections worked flawlessly. My solution is found in the link below--I'm not sure if it will work for you, but it's worth a try.

The telephone numbers that you are entering I don't believe are correct. It is either *99#, or *99***CIDNUMBER#
CID Number is basically the ID number of the profile you wish to connect using on your handset. Sony Ericsson handsets have specific data accounts setup for different services, like Photo Messaging and WAP.

I had had the same problem: V800 and iPAQ 2210 for a couple of weeks.
Now I am sure, that it should be a problem with the intensity of bluetooth. I did everyting what I could. I realiesed that it works sometimes (in 1 of 20 cases). So I tested it with different spaces between the V800 and ipaq. Without significant results. I put the V800 in a distance of 1 meter to the iPAQ an placed me between V800 and ipaq. In this configuration it works in 10 of 10 cases. Very crazy! Isn't it?

I'm having a similar problem. I had the setting emailed and entered them. But when i go through the network wizard process on my pc (xp pro sp2) i get a error 628 message saying my phone's not connected even though it is. I've tried cable and bluetooth.
