Cannot Pass AT Commands using cable using hyperterminal.Strange Garbage characters.

Hi ALL!
I am using a T610 and Serial Cable to connect to my PC on COM1. Earlier everything was going on fine but a few days back the hyperterminal started displaying garbage n strange non ASCII characters when i type a command and the response of mobile is also scrap characters. When I isssue command AT* the no of characters is more which implies that the phone is able to interpret command so it seems there`s some problem with the interface. Even the Master Reset didn`t help me out. Float`s Mobile Agent is not able to detect the phone... So what could be the possible reason and a possible solution to this problem.
