This came up in another thread... What numbers are lucky or auspicious in your country or community? What numbers are avoided?

7 is lucky and 13 isn't
for me, 13 is my lucky number. It's always shown up whenever i get something good

that number never made me lucky, it only shows up after i get lucky
My cousin's girlfriend lives in HK and i think they're having elections, and candidates were fighting to get the lucky numbers

here 7, 10 and 8 are considered lucky. 13 is supposed to bring bad luck. In Japan, 4 is considered bad because it can be pronounced as "shi" which could also mean death.

In Japan 8 is considered a lucky number as when its written its like a kanji character which means better things or times to come

some religious cultures also consider 2 as sign of the devil because it symbolizes duality.
Just curious, do you believe in luck?
Posted by methylated_spirit
No, you make your own luck.

I believe in karma. I believe some numbers can remind me to think useful thoughts. Three reminds me of the Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha.

IMO luck is a form of superstition. Some people go as far as even changing the number of steps in their stairs because it's bad luck or not having a picture when there are odd number of people, etc. It's just crazy, I think.

I will provide you with a huge list tomorrow as HSBC advertise the lucky numbers as part of their "never underestimate the power of local knowledge" advertising everywhere at Heathrow Airport when I go to work

As promised>>HSBC advertising indicated that 888 is a lucky number in China. Apparently, that's the only one I can remember!
