Maybe because Jo'burg always happens first...
The slow speeds are maybe being caused by congestion on some towers due to upgrades being done on other. (we can only hope)

Atleast I know that I won't have to battle with GPRS speeds for much longer. I managed to pick up 3G signal around Carnival City for a short while, and the speeds were impresive.

What are all you guys bitching about? GPRS has worked perfectly down here in Cape Town...no hassles, just normal connection speeds.

64K Sim Cards will now be available by VODACOM.It should be instores next week. This card was made for the new 3G phones and wireless connect card.If you bought a 3G phone or Vodafone wireless connect data card in the past,Vodacom will post you a new 64k sim card for FREE.Stores will not give you one for free unless you LCP/Quicksim.When you buy a 3G phone or wireless card DEMAND for a 64K sim..........Watch mail

Posted by Rhino8
Okay mate, whats the deal wiv 64k sim? What makes it better than 32, is it only for 3G? Will it work on 2.5g phones?

Posted by Tahir Ally
64k sim cards will improve your experince on 3G.

Posted by Rhino8
How?

Posted by Tahir Ally
Better signal and will improve your battery life.I will post info as soon as i get them

Posted by brix25
@Tahir: I don't understand that reply. I thought 64k, as with 32k, would simply accommodate better network services(voice&data) and zilch with signal strenght.

Posted by Tahir Ally
A 3G device will work better on a 64k sim card.........I will post info as soon as i get them.......I know in the UK when you buy a 3G device you have to buy a USIM(UNIVERSAL SUBSCRIBER INDENTIFICATION MODULE).Maybe a USIM is a 64k sing

Posted by Rhino8
Well i was told that using a 32k sim used more power than 16k when they were first introduced.

Posted by brix25
I'll explain. With a 32k SIM you could access Vodata( not that I ever used it) and other network services. A 64k SIM would in theory provide better options to a network.

Posted by Rhino8
I knew that bit of info thanks mate..........

Posted by Tahir Ally
No such thing. The later the card the better,it will communicate with the network less and will improve signal means less drop calls. The 32k card was for WIG services like cellphone banking, stores 15 sms and 250 contacts.....64k currently does not support WIG but it will come

What games are all you guys playing on your phones? Right now I'm enjoying Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorow and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time which I downloaded today:-)

Posted by Rhino8
I got 70 good games on my phone. I like splinter cell 3d and golf3d....

Posted by brix25
@Rhino: Do you space for anything else on your phone? I've got 4 music videos, lots of mp3's(ringtones) and this week will be transferring full music tracks in mp4(iTunes) to my phone...that should take care of the 4MB available:-)

Posted by Tahir Ally
VODAFONE LIVE ! is here

Posted by Rhino8
The games only take up bout 10 meg. I use poly tones, Mp3 is to large, and the sound quality is poor on MP3.

Posted by brix25
@Rhino: Download iTunes, convert your favourite tracks to the AAC format...then transfer them via BT.

Posted by Rhino8
Anybody else got a kak gprs connection. Seems vodacom are concentrating on new services like 3G so much that they just dont give a fok for anything else. Since 3G started the other resvices just went to shit.

Posted by Tahir Ally
Ever since Vodacom slashed rates on DATA more and more people are using or joining Vodacom and now FREE BROWSING via VODAFONE LIVE.I will admit speeds on GPRS are dead slow sometimes and YES if you want faster speeds you must buy a 3G device.By the end of this year or early next year where ever there is a Vodacom signal there will be 3G coverage.Vodacom wil be rolling out another 1000 3G base stations in the next 9 months.........On the otherside if you want fast GPRS SPEED TRY BROWSING AFTER MIDNIGHT...........Nowdays the Vodacom shops sales on 3G is higher or same as 2G........This year is the year of 3G

Posted by brix25
Today I noticed the speeds were slow. They're actually trying to sell people Vodafone Live...wait till they find out about all the limitations:-) Browsing is not free cause you pay for it and it's only on the Vodafone Live portal, once you leave you start paying.

Posted by Tahir Ally
BROWSING IS FREE ON VODAFONE LIVE ONLY WHEN YOU LEAVE OR BUY SOMETHING ON VODAFONE LIVE YOU PAY .NO NETWORK OFFER THIS........Customers are buying branded handset.Last week i sold more Vodafone branded handsets than normal handset.Full Hollywood and Bollywood movies will be available to download on you phones coming soon to Vodacom in 2-6months.

Posted by brix25
LOL@ Tahir: Whoever bought thoses phones should have the heads checked. If for instance you bought a V800 you won't be able to play any mp3's that have not been downloaded off the Vodafone Live portal...you can't transfer your own mp3's to the phone because the phone won't play anything that does not have a DRM(digital rights management) key. Tahir put that in your pipe and smoke it... I'd prefer choice than being forced to make the rich richer.

Posted by Rhino8
@tahir
Is what brix said true? Then i dont want a branded handset. f**k free browsing on voda live, if you cant get a non branded handset, ill import one myself.

Your a true salesman, mention all the good points, the little there is but the millions of kak points you just conveniently forget to mention.

And to think i was going to get a v800 when i upgraded in june, A BRANDED V800!

Posted by brix25
@Rhino: He won't say anything because he knows how Vodafone Live works. Before anyone goes out and buys a branded handset they should know what they're letting themselves in for...lots of restrictions. BTW liked the Vodafone-branded Sharp GX20, nice phone...unfortunately it's branded.

Posted by RicK700i
I think you are being harsh on Tahir Ally. Its nice to come her to recieve the latest Vodacom news.Rather that than no news at alll.Just wait till MTN gets, if you dont like branded phones.

Posted by CodeMaster
@ Rhino8

Brix25 is smoking his socks...

As an owner of a V800, you can PLAY any MP3's on the phone without DRM rights. What you CANNOT do is use those MP3's for ringtones and alarm signals, unless u run them thru the DRM packager.

As a side note, remember that if you are brave enough, you can always update to Z800, and remove all the Vodafone crap...

Posted by Tahir Ally
@ Brix. You said you want choice.MTN and Cell C does not even have an MP3 portal like Vodafone Live.Vodafone has over 500 000 music files you can download on your phone.Who gives you that choice. The main thing in 3G is CONTENT.No mobile network in SA has the content like Vodafone. In time to come companies like exactmobile wont exists because its PAIN to download stuff from them .You dont understand the Vodafone live concept but i will explain it to you. When a phone is Vodafone live branded you dont have to break your head installing settings for mms or internet all this is preloaded.Vodafone live makes life easier. From the last post it seems you like PIRATE STUFF.Who said you cant transfer stuff from a V800 to another device.Thats BULLSHIT........If you dont like branded stuff all i can say to you is You will buy a branded phone sometime in the future or you can stick with your K700i and you will be missing out on allot of stuff

Posted by JK
I dont think he can afford anything else!! :)

any way voda live is not as bad as you think, i know pirated stuff is more fun and you have a better variety... but what voda offers is legal and that means alot to some people.

its quite cheap as well,

and i think if some of you in this thread are actually looking for a handset that has everything you want, you will never stop looking for the rest of your life!!!!

i think you are easily manipulated espacially by the other users i this site, you dont even own a 3g or a voda live phone but you already complaining if dont want it then import 1 you nagging little B!!!

im quite content with these phones some have better features than the next but hey what can you do... right????

just get one thats suites you best...

Posted by brix25
CodeMaster clarified it. Ok, so you can't use mp3 ringtones but that's still a big deal to some people. Tahir has been regurgitating the same Information for weeks now as if he was programmed robot.

Posted by Rhino8
Well, who in his right mind is going to pay 50 bucks for a game from vodafone live, taking the risk that you dont even like it, when you can get it for free.

Posted by Tahir Ally
@ BRIX i will be repeating my self until you understand what VODAFONE LIVE IS and how it works. It looks like you need to REBOOT because your memory can't absorb new info

Posted by uthetha ituvi

Posted by CodeMaster
I agree with Tahir, Brix25 needs to get the ear-wax cleaned

MP3's CAN be used as ringtones.
Running your mp3's thru the DRM packager is a very QUICK & SIMPLE process which does not affect your original MP3's...

Doh!Sorry for the bugger-up on the recent post.
We all have opinions, but some of the dogmatic remarks on this forum are getting a bit much. I'm not talking about the info, which I find interesting. We all know knowledge is power.
Perhaps it's fair to say that GENERALLY people that have bought the latest 3g handsets etc from Tahir's shop or any other place are in a position to pay for all the Vodafone download costs and won't be at all bothered with this, whereas many of us will not want to feed the Vodafone machine and prefer CHOICE and not be restricted by eg. DRM software, which does exist, etc.
I'm not slagging Vodacom/Vodafone SA and I'm not disputing the service or prices stipulated in this forum, but I refuse to be limited by any network, be it through branding, data services, whatever. If it reaches the point where there are no longer sim-free/ unconnected handsets, then let the firmware/ software unlocking boffins all over continue finding ways to give us freedom of choice.

You can find free mobile games all over wap, you just have to know where to look, and the R0.20 to R0.50 data cost to download em are way cheaper than R20 plus to buy em.

Posted by JK
THANKS....... mmm

can you recomend any 1 in particular???

Posted by Tahir Ally
@ CodeMaster the Samsung D500 retails for R3400 and the SonyEricsson V800 retails for R4000.

Posted by Rhino8
PmPl.... You should see this.... The whole bloemfontein is without power. PmPl. And my battery is about to die.

Posted by Tahir Ally
Vodafone is now selling THE LIMITED VERSION OF THE FERRARI SHARP 902 GLOBALY FROM THIS MONTH .The phone is RED and has FERRARI LOGOS on it and YES BRIX its VODAFONE LIVE BRANDED.I will post when this FERRARI phone comes to SA which will be an VODACOM EXCLUSUVE.........Ferrari lovers this one is 4U

Posted by Rhino8
I love ferrari but i dont love vodafone that much.........

Posted by Tahir Ally
@ Rhino 8.Do you know how much the Vodafone sponsorship is worth for FERRARI $200 million. This is for a year only

Posted by Rhino8
I know they are one of, if not the largest sponsor, for f. But the brandes phones are really ugly.... The vodafone logo are real ugly. No offence........

Posted by brix25
You could possibly have offended one person on this thread. Vodafone is a big company but I'd hate to be confronted by them every time I made a call on my phone. If Tahir can be believed that would be the future of cellular.

Posted by Tahir Ally
Mr Brix Vodafone is the largest mobile network in the world.1 in 3 person on this planet is connected via Vodafone in some way.Vodafone is buying off any network that wants to sell up.I would love Telkom and Venfin to sell all there shares to Vodafone. If Vodafone controlls Vodacom 100% you will fireworks in SA........In other parts of the world networks are joining hands or buying each another because they want to save money on infrastructure. Why Duplicate everything.Thats the Q.In time to come few big networks will be opperating and VODAFONE IS ONE OF THEM.Vodafone are still in talks with SA goverment to Telkom to sell up Vodacom.

Posted by brix25
Don't think there's much duplication...owning Vodacom would allow them (Vodafone) to have a single marketing strategy...which saves money in the long run. The Telkom CEO has said they would never sell their stake in Vodacom because it was strategic, especially for new streams of revenue. Seems like the fireworks will have to be put on hold then.

Posted by Tahir Ally
Telkom knows for a FACT.If they sell up all there shares in Vodacom.Telkom is KAPUT
