@Mario: I'll add you...only problem is Yamigo's server seems to have been down since this morning.

Posted by Rhino8
Hey ppl. I signed up at yamingo yesterday, and havent recieved my acc details yet!

Posted by brix25
Had problems logging in through wap so I'm forced to use the web to post.

@Rhino: The settings are on the Yamigo website...all you need is a log-on and your password( you can change by editing your account).

Posted by mario2002
@Brix Thanks for adding me. People am I missing a point here ? Why you battle with Yamigo and down-servers? Use AgileMessenger and log directly to the IM service you want to use ! I do that and works super for the past 2y :-)

Posted by brix25
@mario: Even though Agile Messenger is a java app I'd hate to use it on my phone when it already comes with a built-in chat client. The interface is also quite simple.

Posted by RicK700i
Why cant Vodacom let their pre-paid customers pay a flat rate for gprs internet monthly? Now I decided I'll spend less time on gprs internet because I'm spending too much money on gprs.I'll buy R29 airtime every 7 days now and that will give a total of R126 per month rather than R300 - R400.I used to buy R29 Vodago every 2-3 days!

Posted by Rhino8
@any1 can u check if yamigo is workn, just got an acc set up,bt get msg 'login failed, network error' when i try to use my friends.

Posted by mario2002
Well, I thought Agile supports your cell.Yes the java version is a bit arcane compared to the s60 version. But even the java is at least working.I am half Romanian half German and I use to chat a while ago with the Romanian Yamigo developers (one of them). They have quite a few problems too say the least.Yamigo is a server 'locked' chatting program which will be 'down' everytime their server(s) is down.Anyone serious about chatting should register directly to one or more of the major IM programs and use them thru a direct terminal like Agile or Jabber etc. Anyway give me a shout when their server is up 'n running :-)

Vodacom will only come with a flat GPRS bundle when we have good 3G coverage countrywide, that will be in 2 years. If they do it now the 2g network will crash 24 7.The voice and data on a 2g uses time slots(Limited capacity),3g uses codes(Unlimited capacity). The differences are a 2g base station can handle between 20-50 uses @ 1 once and 3g works like a radio station.Everyone listen to the same radio station but there is no congestion..................HSDPA coming to Vodacom by early 2006

Posted by mario2002
Huh buddy, where did you get this info from ? Please, please don't tell me you are a technician or something. What exactly do you mean by 'crashing the network'?Let me ask you honestly - do you know what you are talking about ?

Posted by Tahir Ally
I am a Vodacom trade partner and we get training on everything...Coming back to network crashing,GSM system is ment for sharing and when and when the slots are used up and you try phoning out you will get a NETWORK BUSY message on your phone.3G everytime you use it there is a code assign to you, every code is different thats why its unlimited capacity.3G is also known has WCDMA(WIDEBAND CODE DIVISION MULTIPLE ACCESS)...........Vodafone Live coming SOON..........I FEEL SORRY 4 MTN and Cell C when Vodafone live is launched because when you browse via Vodafone Live,IT FREE only if you buy you pay.If Vodafone wants to stream some thing free like F1 grand prix. You don't have to pay.Vodafone live is a global content if you read news, weather, etc its free unless it stated you pay.You have to buy a Vodafone branded handset to use these services which will be launched soon

Posted by RicK700i
@ rhino8,why did youto move to South Africa from England? England must be a much better country than here.

Posted by Rhino8
@rick

Who said im frm eng? I surely neva did. Am thinkn of movin to ozz tho.

So there are some interestin shit in store 4 us in sa.

SonyEricsson V800 coming soon to a Vodashop near you.Retail price about R4500.The Z1010 will not be available through Vodacom.Look out for the SHARP 902 which is the only 3G phone with a 2 mega pixel cam.The Sharp 902 has a scanner that scans up to 60 characters on business card + it comes with a cable that plugs in your video jack on your TV so you can stream movies, etc on your TV .SHARP phones have the same interface as SonyEricsson and Sharp phones are for Vodafone only.Sharp 902 is the best 3G phone when it will launch according to Vodacom.Watch this SPACE for more details.....................

Posted by brix25
Good luck to anyone jumping on the 3G bandwagon...just from what Tahir has mentioned it's a serious turn-off...best thing to is wait until MTN launch 3G before deciding to part with cash and a massive bill each month.

Posted by Tahir Ally
YELLO Brix25.History has shown that Vodacom was always S.A leading net.EG:Voda started business 2 months before MTN.Today Vodacom has 15Mill customers,MTN has 7Mill.Vodacoms distribution is bigger than MTN.With 3G Voda has a 6 months lead if MTN launches in June05.In the Brainstorm Itweb sep04 mag Mr Karel Pienaar of MTN GROUP CTP said "Ill eat my hat" if Vodacom launches 3G by Dec04.In that mag MTN stated they will only launch 3G in 2006.The only reason they want to launch it now because they are loosing alot of high spenders to Voda and Cell C said they will be launching 3G by June.Remember Vodacom is the only net in world that is charging the same price for a voice and video call.Other net are charging 3 times more for a video call. This year all Vodafone partner net will be launching Vodafone WORLD.This means if you phone from SA Voda to any Vodafone customer you will pay a local SA cell price becuase its one GLOBAL COMMUNITY.....Can the yello guys match this.I DON'T think so.

:-]
I always knew mtn and cell c wont last. But now if we pay the same 4 intl call to otha vf fones, wont vf increase local rates!

:-]
I bn wondern, if u use data on a 3g phone, like surfin da net, or wap, do u get 3g speed, and pay normal gprs rates(R2/mb)?
:-]
MTN is loosin a sh*tload of users already. My mom is movin to voda contract end april when her MTN contract expires. After 9years wiv MTN.

Posted by brix25
No Tahir I'm not an MTN sub. Vodacom is excellent when it comes to their customer care, made that point countless times on here but would you buy a car from the only dealership in town if you knew another one was due to open in three months? People need to wait and see so all the offers can be weighed up against one another.

Posted by Rhino8
:-]
Well, i Say it again, i dont think mtn got the backbone to go up against vodacom/vodafone!
:-]

Posted by Tahir Ally
People can wait for MTN to launch 3G but Vodacom will be the leader in 3G coverage.Vodacom currently has 473 3G base station by the end of this year it will exceed 1000. When MTN launches 3G 70% of KZN AND Western Cape will have 3G by Vodacom.Gauteng is already 70% covered with 3G coverage.MTN promised eveyone EDGE in Feb. Its already middle of March and its still in test faze...When MTN launched HSCD(HIGH SPEED CIRCUT DATA) which is faster than GPRS a goverment dept went to them and the MTN HSCD crashed after 2 weeks and it never worked for months.MTN was forced to cancel the goverment contract.Vodacom never had HSCD because they knew of all the faults.MTN still has HSCD but don't market it because its not stable. This shows Vodacom knows what its doing but you can judge for yourself.

:-]

well stop compairin da 2 and giv us some more of what we are to expect. When wil voda life and vodafone world b launched?

:-]

Posted by brix25
I think someone using MTN data services need to speak up because Tahir is making some serious allegations...none of which I've ever heard of.

Posted by Rhino8
@brix: knowing what voda charges 4 data, do u think there are any MTN data users? MTN charges 22.5 times what voda charges.

Posted by Tahir Ally
VODAFONE LIVE is already available but not commercialy launched. It will be launched this month, thats when the V800 will be available.VODAFONE WORLD this year some time.NUMBER PORTABILITY(KEEP YOUR EXISTING NUMBER & MOVE TO ANOTHER NETWORK) NOV -DEC 05.Only Vodafone Live gives you free browsing, thats why to send and receive unlimited email on BLACKBERRY IS FREE via VODAFONE.MTN advertised Blackberry in Nov 04 till today they have no stock. They only did this because vodacom was launching 3G in Dec & to shift attention.

Posted by Rhino8
So u get free unlimited email on voda life. Hm when will da v800 b available?

Posted by Tahir Ally
FREE UNLIMTED EMAIL SENDING AND RECEIVING IS FREE ONLY IF YOU BUY A BLACKBERRY FROM VODACOM.V800 is due anytime now.Watch this space for the V800.

I need a 2nd phone,and its got 2 b voda 3g!

@ Tahir,
Just to correct one of your earlier posts:
"...Sharp phones are for Vodafone only.."(10/3/05)
Sharp are NOT only for Vodafone; one of the other mobile network giants abroad, T-Mobile, also use (different) Sharp phones. See http://www.gsmarena.com/sharp-phones-23.php
Fair enough, most Sharp phones appear to be with Vodafone, but not all.
I am impressed with Vodacom's plans. Is there any threat of Vodacom being taken over completely by the Vodafone giant? Just asking, because their phone call pricing (not referring to 3g services, although I realise much of the current discussion is about these...) here in the UK is THE most expensive out of all the networks. Check out UK network tariff guides on the net as proof.

Posted by Rhino8
Wudnt bother me,as i use 99% of my private mobile use on data services. Vodacom is only 35% vodafone tho.

Posted by Tahir Ally
I did not say SHARP PHONES ARE FOR VODAFONE ONLY.All i said was the Sharp 902 is the only 3G 2megapixel.There is no plans for VODAFONE to buy VODACOM but VODAFONE WANTS TO INCREASE IT SHARE IN VODACOM.Visit www.busrep.co.za for more info.I would like VODAFONE TO BUY VODACOM COMPLETLY but i dont think that will happen.VODAFONE call rates might be more in UK but they are the leaders in the world. One in 3 people on this planet is connected to VODAFONE.They have more roaming partners than anyone + allways the 1st with everything just like Vodacom.None of the UK operators have a huge content like Vodafone Live.In SA Vodacom subs on lower end contracts are not as cheap as its competitors but its SA leading cell net with the lowest churn(customer moving from Voda to other net).Why.Vodacom service is the best,we give you 2year warranty on your handset, our distribution is bigger than anyone.Vodacom has 60% market share in SA.

Posted by brix25
Hope Vodafone never takes over Vodacom... It might look good on the service but SA subs will have to put up with a lot of nonsense like branded handsets. It also doesn't mean charges will be cheaper...we might get more services but that's about it. What I'd like to see is maybe two more networks...give me choice and with number portability it shouldn't be a big problem changing network.

Posted by Tahir Ally
Vodacom did a survey last year and it was about telecommunication. They said SA had the potential of having 12 operators(fixed/mobile) and everyone will have a fair share. Most of us here must of heard of Cell C cutting 90 jobs but you never hear this from Vodacom & MTN.Richard Branson wants to become Cell C super dealer.Branson will use Cell C but it will be branded Virgin Mobile. All Virgin customers will have 084 numbers.I think Cell C rather cell their network to Virgin because in the last year Cell C customer base did not grow especialy it prepaid base.Cell C has 3mill customers,2mill prepaid 1mill contracts.Cel l C has the highest churn in the country and they did not increase their distribution since interception. For starters they dont even have their own repair centres.

Posted by brix25
I think 12 operators is perhaps pushing it...five would be ok but I can't see too many international networks licking their lips at the prospect of entering this market due the licencing debacle we had with Cell C and the problems govt had licencing the SNO...best believe that pigs will take flight before a call is ever made on the SNO.

Posted by Rhino8
Well, im all 4 mobile technology, and who evar gives me the best services@ best rates will get my vote.

@Tahir,
read these last 6 words quoted from your post carefully. I did not mis-quote you or take your sentence out of context.
I merely replied to what you have stated, using facts.

Posted by brix25
@anyone who has used a Sharp phone...are these handsets any good?

Posted by Tahir Ally
I used SHARP phones and all i can say is if you love SonyEricsson phones, you will love them. The menus are like SonyEricsson.I used customers phones and they told me they are happy with them.We have to wait when Vodacom brings SHARP phones in SA which will be very soon.

Does Vodacom have download restrictions? Whenever I try downloading something over 400kb I get a message saying "the requested page is currently not available" but the other day my colleague at work downloaded "Doom" for his 6600, a file in excess of 1Mb without any problems.

Posted by Tahir Ally
No restrictions.Maybe your phone memory is low or the file is faulty

Posted by Rhino8
I got da same prob, but when i used an o2 uk sim on roaming wiv voda, i didnt hav that prob, dwnloaded files in the access of 2mb. And i got same phone than brix.

Posted by brix25
It's not a biggie but sometimes I see something that I'd like to download. Saw this morning MTN advertising the same two Blackberry models Vodacom have introduced but not saying when these devices will be available...not that I want one.

Posted by Tahir Ally
MTN advertised the 7290 and another model. The 7100v is for Vodafone only.Vodacom has the 7100v and 7290.The 7100 look like a normal cellphone.

Any news about mtn and edge ?

Posted by t105crazzy
Hello guyz em from Botswana, Gaborone.
Well i miss out on a lot of fun coz my country is not among the listed, so i thought maybe to join ur forum since ur my neighbours(country wise)

One more thing is that i do get to loose out on a lot of fun coz the providers here do not have wap access, so em a bit left out on a lot of things like downloads, games especially

Em using a SE T610 (nice piece), used to own a T28s, then T105 and then T610

Posted by brix25
BTW, welcome to the newest poster on our thread...all the way from Botswana...can't believe they don't have data services...Orange must be making a killing.

@mario: No news about EDGE. Something I've picked up on the weekend...I'm a journalist afterall was that Icasa are planning to ban premium services that are accesible to children. Orange did a similiar move last month whereby subscribers have to register their details( credit card, adress and ID) to be able to receive adult content on their cellphone.

What does this mean? Networks will in future be able to block access to adult content...using similiar methods to that employed by Mweb to protect the kids.

The mother grundies have had their day...no more porn for you little Johnny.

I want MTN to launch EDGE now because when they launch it,it will be available where ever MTN has signal. Then the pressure will be on Vodacom to roll out MORE 3G nodes ASAP.MTN has EDGE IN CERTAIN AREAS FOR NOW.MTN is the 1st in the world to have an EDGE notification. When you are in an EDGE coverage area, your phone will notify you.Maybe MTN will launch EDGE when they launch 3G.I will try and find out when MTN will have EDGE by tomorrow.Last i heard EDGE will be available on 1st Feb 05 and now its March. So watch this space

Posted by Rhino8
Well, the fastr mtn brings on new services, the fastER voda will have to launch new stuff. And am lookn 4ward to nr portability, wud bring out more competition between da 3 netws.

Posted by Tahir Ally
From the 1st of March 05 all cellular networks in SA will no longer greylist phones but will blacklist them and you don't need a case number to blacklist. All blacklisted phones will be destroyed when recoverd by SAP.If you find your phone then only you need a case number to clear the listing. To blacklist your phone all you need to know is:What phone you had and model,IMEI no,where your phone was lost/stolen and the phone number you used last and your personal details like ID no,name and surname, fixed address and contact number. This is for both prepaid and contract across all networks.

Posted by brix25
That's bloody good news especially for those people who always have their phones stolen/lost. Never had a phone stolen though but would hate to lose my precious to the criminal element.

Posted by Tahir Ally
Just to add on to my last post. All stolen or lost phones that where reported before will be blacklisted. The cell networks with the SAPS are working together......Another nice thing with 3G handsets,if someone steals your 3G phone borrow another 3G phone and phone your 3G phone when the BASTARD answer your 3G phone change the profile from video calls to still photo on your 3G phone you borrowed.Take the still photo to the SAPS and hopefully they will nab the bastard or you can publish the photo.
