Talking of 3G phone does anyone actually know someone using a 3G phone? I've seen the Vodafone datacard from the occasional "show off" at my local coffee shop in the morning but never actually seen the Moto E1000 in use.

Posted by Rhino8
One of my stationery reps use a moto E1000 thats the only 1 i cn yet.

Posted by brix25
IMO I don't think Vodacom have marketed the available content on the Vodafone portal. Also if Nokia release a 3G model locally many people would sign up.

Posted by Rhino8
How long dya fink this cheap gprs will last?

Posted by Siosal
How much is gprs on voda now?
I heard somwhere it's about R2 p/MB but that can't be right.

Posted by brix25
Honestly I don't know when this offer will expire but I'll be very pissed off if they stopped it.

Posted by Siosal
So it's true?

Hello there

To answer some of your Q's

Ive seen the 3G phones that are currently in the country,

moto e1000, v800, and nokia 6630..-..(dont think it has video telephony)

3G will be fully operational with most of the 3G phones available in July-Aug...

Vodacoms 3G network is up and running but only in the main cities...
its also very slow with about 5-10 sec delay on a video call...
That e1000 is pathetic!! it has 1hr 30 min normal talk time....(without video calling) so imagine it with video!!!

As for GPRS rates I seriously doubt it will increase it will only get cheaper!!!! ps. it was lowered for a reason.

Posted by mario2002
Yeah buddy on vodacom pay as you 'only' pay R2/MB.Is not that cheap but 'acceptable' Vodacom is testing the market. They hope that by dropping the price on GPRS people will use it to access the net on their PC and laptops. On the data-card contract you only pay 50cent per MB for the first Gig ! Thereafter is 2R/MB (for now) it should have jumped up to 10R but the public did not buy it

Posted by JK
Mr Mario
Howsit

GPRS was dropped because of the 3G data cards using so much GPRS...

If you buy GPRS (my meg) bundles it about 60c per MEG, and thats EXCELLENT compared to MTN's prices.....

Posted by Siosal
Thats a hell of a lot cheaper than the R50 p/MB my mtn bud's are paying.
So we should use gprs more often so thay don't raise the price....?
know any good wap adult sites....Just joking.
I'm on the mymeg0 bundle...not paying R60 p/m for something i don't use that much.

I just got a samsung D500!!!!!!!! wow not bad for a samsung...

Posted by Siosal
Keeping in mind that Samsungs are at this moment the most popular mobile phone in the world (not the best, just most popular).
The D500 is a very well put together phone, although the shape doesn't suit some users (myself included.) And the camera is over hyped. To quote one user "The camera is POOR, don't be fooled by "Megapixel size", The amount of megapixels is not the only determinant of pic quality"
In truth it really is overpriced and over-rated.
But welcome to esato.

aghem

Over rated yes, maybe, over priced - they just dont depreciate as fast as nokias and se, as for size not my style as well because its bulky, small, but bulky, sticks out when in your pocket...

as for this camera . . . . . you got to see it for yourself bra...
no really its something else..... compared to K700 in capturing moving objects its excellent also no distortion if you shake and stuff.... the zoom is also better with no shutter click can get naughty again +92megs of space!!!

still a SE fan, i think it came out to rival the k700....

Posted by Siosal
More likley rival the S700i...they are both 1.3mp camera's, wheras the K700 is 0.3 so it's not surprising that the samsung would have better quality. It does have a good amount of memory although i understand it to be 80MB.
Like i said as a phone in it's own right and not comparing feature for feature on a lesser phone(which the K700 is in terms of memory and camera.) the D500 just doesn't cut it for me.
And besides in this day & age you only have the best for one day..the next day it's obsolete.

Posted by JK
Yes I understand that got a S700i, K700, D500 and this stupid Blackberry...

In terms of size and style... It does it for me.

but
"The camera is POOR, don't be fooled by "Megapixel size",

Theres nothing POOR bout this thing... give credit where credit is due... congrats to samsung... well on this phone only... the mp3 with the headsets is also louder... maybe coz its new...

SE should make something like this but a 3g version... Then we talking...

as for having the best today...... well iv always had thebest and latest well i SA at least... Daddy's got a V shop.

Posted by Siosal
I seen the camera but that's not my quote, that's somebody who owns it....
But still I think that samsung make some of the most beautifull phone's out there... would have got myself an E700 if i was shallow enough and my fingers could press the buttons.

Posted by brix25
Having just seen the phone on billboards and viewed the specs on www.gsmarena.com I'd say it's good phone but the proof is always in the pudding.

If anyone is using the D500 please post some comments.

Posted by Rhino8
Wel using my laptop and bluetooth modem on voda gprs cost me bout 20cent a minute. Cheap. But nt dirt cheap. What do u pay on contract. I neva c my contract statement. Goes to my boss.

Posted by brix25
@Rhino...I'd be interested in the download speeds using your laptop coz I would assume it would be pretty slow on GPRS.

BTW heard that Telkom have fractionaly cut their ADSL costs.

Posted by Rhino8
I get bout 111.5Kbts in d mawnin it realy fast,bt slacks when school get out. Its faster than the web cafes i used to use.
Blueto
Oth also slows it down. Max bt transfer i gt is bout 23 kbytes p s. ________________

@Rhino...111kb/s is quite fast for GPRS...how is that possible when consensus is that 56kp/s is pushing it via GPRS...have to say though my first taste of GPRS was when an MTN saleslady came round to my work trying to convince all of us that we needed GPRS phones and she made a fast connection using her laptop and connecting via a datacard(that was almost three years ago).

Posted by Rhino8
Thats the speed my connection status givs me. Think it 111 kbits tho.

Posted by Siosal
Anybody see Batista power bomb HHH through a table on wwe.com?
Fan-frikkin-tastic!

Posted by brix25
Can't recall the last time I watched WWE...think I've outgrown it.

It's the only sport you can watch where your guy can lose and not really lose.
@brix25, did you get the name from liking the old brick style phone's?

(@Rhino8 I know that he got the name from a soccer player, but it's quite ironic that he enjoy's all the old bricks...

Any 1 know what are MTN and cell C bringing in to rival 3G???

Posted by brix25
MTN are planning to launch 3G in the middle of the year. Dunno about Cell C.

Posted by JK
By themselves..?? I heard something bout an alliance/buying VIRGIN!!

Posted by Rhino8
If mtn and virgin get 2geta, it cud mean reduced rates. Voda got da ability to drop call and sms rates, they just dnt need to.

If they slash costs wiv 50% and the consumer make the same minutes worth of calls and send the same amt of sms, they wil still make a 100+ % profit.

Posted by RicK700i
@ brix25,I've noticed you've changed from T68i to K700i,Welcome to the K700i world. :-] how much did you pay for it?

Posted by mario2002
Isn't MTN busy upgrading their existing 2.5G network to higher data rates (EDGE) they also intend begining 3G trials later in the year !

Posted by craigl21
you looking at june july, they will have 3g, but has anyone changed to voda? there gprs is lank cheep now

Posted by Rhino8
According to a reliable source, the R2 p mb rates WILL last till end march. After that anything can happen.

Posted by JK
The rates WILL stay the same your sources are wrong...!!

And MTN has had EDGE for the past 2-3 years....

Posted by Rhino8
Rates may drop! According to my source.

Posted by JK
So will petrol and the price of cigarettes my friend.... just jokin maybe, but theres no reason for them to...

Posted by Rhino8
Voda wants mor internet users. And since it wud b stupid to make 3g cheaper than gprs since it a betr and fastr service.

FYI

3G and gprs use data my friend.... so I dont think they can make gprs differ from 3G.... The main reason GPRS is cheaper is because 3G was launched...

Posted by Rhino8
I knw they cnt split da rates, and makn it mor expensive wud b pointless anyhow.

I wonder what wud happn to data rates when MTN finaly launch 3g.

No talk of cell c tho.

Posted by brix25
This is bloody hilarious, yesterday I got myself a brand spanking new K700i...nice little phone...initial first impressions...the phone is fast, going thru the menu is a breeze. Right now I'm charging it, was supposed to charge the battery last night...I didn't. Any comments welcome.
