Cool that Gingerbread is coming sooner than I expected, but I read somewhere that we ar gonna loose some features that we have on 2.1.Think I'm gona wait a while before I update, just to see.Hey Hoobs shame you working man,me I'm just chilling listeningto some cool tunes.Howz errbody else doing?

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Yep Jmash, its not major features though, apparently we are going to lose the current X10 Camera UI and get the stock Android Camera UI, personaly i realy like the stock one anyway as its cleaner and fast. Other features to be lost are Moxier and the SE BackUp app, but i mean we gain Flash Player, faster JavaScript engine, newer Webkit engine, loads of security fixes, better power management, better app management, faster UI, new APIs, and other UI and under the hood refinements, so we gain much more than we lose.

Ive been off uni since late May lol, but have taken the holis easy until tomorrow this next half is going to be wild before i go back to uni going to get a holi job next time, such lazyness is not good, almost lost my mind.

Happy Youth Day everyone

Posted by Hobbs
Jmash As long as the Gingerbread update is smooth and fast Im happy. This SE 2.1 stock rom isnt very pleasant to use after using the Froyo custom and the Gingerbread custom roms. But one thing for sure is its nice having full functionlity in the camera and video department.Cmon Gingerbread.Be a speedy beast so I dont have to visit XDA again.

Thanks Tsepz.Ya the P1i rules with most macro shots, out of the 2 smartphones. The 5800 is OK under certain conditions, but has a tendency to very 'noisy' with bright colour elements, often over-saturating. You can really fiddle with the light settings on the P1i prior to taking a shot, and that makes a fair difference too.

Guys, I've had to keep this quiet until after the event, as it is a public forum and we were given some clear guidelines with this.. I am a regional rep for a biker charity called the Royal British Legion Riders Branch, and on Friday I was invited to meet Prince Charles in person, at Clarence House, along the famous red road called The Mall which is right by Buckingham Palace! He shook hands with me and he chatted about his sons' love for bikes, I told him that I was originally from East London SA, etc. Gee, he was really quite animated and open, not the 'stiff upper lip' at all. It was quite funny seeing myself and the other RBLR regional reps in our biking gear meeting Royalty, all dressed in our biker clothing and having these waiters and waitresses serving us stuff the whole time (ya, I tried to not be too much of a vraat with all that free chow n' larnie stuff, LOL)!
Yeah, I was on my absolute best behaviour, especially with some of the Royalty Protection SO14 squad amongst us as well.. LOL.
The TV crews were there, Camilla was faffing about there as well, and The Prince of Wales made the effort to chat with each one of us. You call him 'Your Royal Highness' when he first shakes hands with you and then it's just 'sir' after that. We were of course given a brief briefing about protocol and etiquette before we went from parking the bikes around the garden area and venturing into Clarence House itself.
It was an unforgettable day alright; here's a 5800 pic of Saturday's front page about the event (Charlie's Angels, LMAO!!! ).

On yahoo news:

Of course, once we were inside, strictly no pics allowed, except by the appointed photographer. There should be a good few pics of us chatting. Once the photographer has put the pics online, I'll post a few on here. I should've had a piece of card in my other hand with 'Esato SAMD' on it, but I didn't want to raise too many unnecessary questions about what it may mean etc at such a one-off meeting, LOL

Splendid ol' Wanga chap.Must have been very cool hanging with the Prince

Posted by amawanqa
Yah, His Royal Wanqness is utterly chuffed after such a chinwag with said Royalty.

I'm trying to imagine cucumber sandwiches on a braai now...

Posh talk the quick way:

Q, what do you breathe in?
A, air

Q, what grows out of your head?
A, hair

Q, the home of a Fox?
A, Lair

Now put them all together and you are ready to greet... by saying out loud 'AIR, HAIRLAIR!'

cmon royal photographer.release some pics.I wanna see the wangster hanging with the prince.lol

Tsepz as you've seen on the x10 thread I'm back on cm7.0.3. the x10 in the current eclair state is too painful to use.se gingerbread better have quadrant benchmarks above at least 1000.that eclair rom maxed out at +-550 for me.that sucks big-time.getting between 1200-1400 on the cm7.0.3.how can you go back to 550.you can't.

Tsepz This time next year I can see us walking around with one of these.

Thats awesome news Wanqs! Congrats on meeting Prince Charles, i would've been a nervous wreck having to remember exactly how to act. "AIR, HAIRLAIR"

Hobbs
Think i'll be sticking to Android and maybe get a Samsung if there's no SE dual-core droid, maybe get the next Google Nexus, i see Voda have the Nexus S, so we should get the next one to.
Hows your X10 treating you?
Think i may flash a new baseband and also expirament with the Gingie ROMs seeing as its only coming in Aug

Posted by Hobbs
@Tsepz Same ol' same ol' with the ol' X10.CM7.0.3 is treating me well.Keeps me calm while August arrives.Been really busy setting up my computer with the new Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal so my focus has been re-directed and August will be here before I know it.My other contract terminates on Friday so Ive done really well holding off on getting an impulse upgrade.Down to one contract now.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Thats great Hobbs, lol, give your X10 a break. Dont know why, but ive never been much of a PC guy, my laptop is still running Vista its got 1GB RAM and dual-core 1.86GHz CPU, dont know if i can do much with that.

Posted by amawanqa
His Royal Wanqness will be in SA at the end of this month; 3 weeks in East London and 1 in Jozi. Can't wait.

In other news, HTC's Evo 3D looks interesting:

Wanqa, I've always wondered whether those are really Charlie's ears, or are they stage props, as has been suggested...

Posted by amawanqa
Kryptik's in da houuuussse, and still keeping the Symbian Dream alive!!! Woohoo! Good to see you in these parts again, boet.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Nice one Wanqs! Bring some of that summer heat this side, its freaking cold!

Kryptik!! Welcome back, hope you're well

Posted by Kryptik
As well as could be, gentlemen, given the absolutely crazy weather which we've been enjoying of late. Gotta love it when the met. office actually get their predictions right once in a while.

Apparently Cell Sheep is running a promo during July:

Recharge with R50 a week and receive 50 bonus SMSs, 50 Cell C to Cell C minutes and a whopping 500 Megabytes!
The bonus value must be used within a calendar week, Monday to Sunday. So if you recharge and receive your bonus value on a Saturday, you will only have until that Sunday to use your extra value or it will expire.
Bonus value is capped at 100 SMSs, 100 Cell C to Cell C minutes and 1000 Megabytes.

Hi Kryptik.Shot for the Cell Sheep promo heads-up.

Can you believe it.My sim has now been in my E90 Communicator for the last four days and my X10 has been relegated to a 'Music Player'. Really enjoying it.Web browsing on this phone with the latest Opera Mini is lovely and I'm really really enjoying the physical keyboards. Its hacked and I have my certificates to install unsigned apps.Just downloaded Profimail so I can get the 'push' email going again. The battery life is insane.Whole day usage and its dropped just one bar.I will most probably return to the X10 once the Gingerbread update appears in August but for now its all E90.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Lol, Kryptik seems to have brought S60 fever, was using my 5800xm today, it had a bunch of updates waiting and i wanted to test how the new Opera Mini6.1 is on it, the Opera Team have out done themselves, its fast and very fluid.

That E90 realy has treated you well Hobbs, such a shame smartphones just arent built the way that beast was these days, part of me feels the "opulence" and geekyness of smartphones has been stripped away, no thanks to the iPhones and Crapberrys, i miss the days of the huge, chunky yet sophisticated and raw power smartphones like the N93, N95, E90, P990, HTC TyTNII etc... i remember how i used to drool over those things, how they required tweaking and unsigned apps to work as you want, now its just touch slabs with average cameras, and the most exciting hardware is the CPU and Screen, lol.

Wanqa
If its one thing you gota love about Nokia is their excellent FW update support especialy for their best selling smartphones, can you believe the 5800 (along with other s60v5s except big N97) wik be recieving another update that will bring the Symbian Anna web browser amongst other things: http://www.allaboutsymbian.co[....]_S60_3rd_Edition_and_S60_5.php ,also if you havent already id suggest you check the SW Update app, there's some Ovi Map3.6 update and a few others.

Posted by Hobbs
Any other alternative for Profimail for Symbian.Got the keygen and the host file to put in C/'private' folder but just stays on 'initializing' when trying to update my mail and then says Timed Out.Maybe Profimail has plugged the hole.

Posted by Kryptik
I'm still using my ancient 6680 as my day-to-day phone. Life has become a busy whirl of activity, so much so that I hardly have time to even play with a phone these days. My E90 does duty when I'm at home and have spare time on my hands, but the 6680 is standing the test of time. I've found the TotalRecall recording app. to be indispensable. It records incoming and outgoing calls, and is used whenever I walk into a meeting. Particularly useful when dealing with show promoters and sponsors who develop selective amnesia at times.

hey guys how you all been doing?

Kryptik I remember that program, saved me hassle in a couple of deals when I used to use it as people tend to develop severe amnesia when it comes to business promises!

Guys I swopped my 9800 torch for a x10 a few months ago and i'm really enjoying it,the cam is even better than the satios's imo and experience with both phones....really awesome.

I installed swype and its fantastic.Only thing I'm missing on this phone is flash browsing...but I guess just a while longer and 2.3 will be here...

Now due to business reasons Ive decided to have my one phone as a blackberry and with that I can have any new phone out right now,but obviously I can only keep the blackberry and one other phone....question is should I ditch the x10 for a galaxy s2 or any other phone out right now you guys recommend?

Posted by amawanqa
Howzit Falcon. Good to have you in these parts again.

@ Tsepz:
Shot for the heads-up. I've been checking the updates that start up as soon as I connect the phone to the PC/ OVI software and you're right, the level of support for the likes of these older Symbian systems has not simply been shelved. A few more brownie points to The Dark Side.

Posted by Hobbs
Howdy Falcon. My 2c worth, wait for a while.I've just turned down an upgrade last month and terminated a contract because theres nothing out there at the moment that needs to replace my X10.Its going to take me to June 2012 with Gingerbread.Just half a month hopefully till the update. But if you gonna get another Android I suppose you cant go wrong with the Samsung Galaxy S II.That phone overclocked shows some crazy benchmark scores.Very powerful.

Wanqs
No problem, yep, cant realy fault them when it comes to support of their devices, Sammy and SE on the other hand have long forgotten about the i8910-Omnia HD, the Satio and Vivaz.

Falcon
Hope you're well
I agree with Hobbs, wait until next year, especialy if you're going to be taking out a 24month contract, but if you MUST upgrade now then take the Sammy, IMO though we may see a GSII update with a qHD 540x960 res display, as that seems to be the screen res standard for the new breed of droid superphones, i'd wait for that.

Wanqs
Thats man,I see you still showing us amateurs that its not the size of the cam that matters its how you use it!Some nice pics there as always, hows pommie land treating you these days?

Wanqs and tsepz

How you guys doing?I feel for the first time not so keen for an upgrade lol I guess the reality is I'm for the first time in a VERY long time satisfied with the phone I have(besides email handling, but gonna use a blackberry as second phone to sort that out)

The X10i is for me really that good, even though I only got mine almost a year after it was launched. It still remains a very complete and enjoyable up to date experience to me and with the 2.3 update its really going to rock.

The thing is at the business our monthly telkom cell phone bill comes out to quite a bit so taking out a vodacom talk 500s or two should save us quite a bit every month for calling mobile numbers, hence its more about saving money than the phone just thought I should use the opportunity to get the latest as those contracts come with just about any phone you want free...but maybe I should wait a while as the new xperia dual core rumours suggest it may be a beast of note,12mp cam etc!

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Well guys my X10 has been flashed back to stock 2.1, any evidance of tweaking cleared and unrooted, sitting in its box now as tomorrow its being picked up by DHL and heading to an SE Service center, the USB port issue has simply gotten out of hand, there has been mornings where ive woken up with a dead phone despite the fact that its sitting on the charger, and when plugging it into a PC it just kept disconnecting, imagine that crap happening whilest updating to 2.3! So i told SE SA my issues via Twitter and they put me in contact with one of their PR people, and ive been in contact with her via email since and she's organised for my phone to be taken in tomorrow morning for an assessment, i hope they just give me a new X10 that was built this year, as after they open your phone its never realy the same again.

Posted by Falcon786
Tsepz are you sure its not the connecting cable itself?

My original charger/data cable combo is buggy like yours but when I use a samsung or blackberry cable it works PERFECT,no disconnects at all...try it before you send it of......

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Falcon
Its a mix of both, my cable is also faulty, so ive been using the now over 3yrld cable that came with my N81, ive also used BB chargers as all my friends own those dam things lol, and the result has been the same all-round, thats why i got hold of SE.

Posted by Hobbs
Tsepz Hope it gets fixed quickly in time for Gingerbread.

Indeed Hobbs, im hoping so. Im readjusting to using the 5800xm daily, cant believe Gravity is still the best Twitter app in Symbian, to think even the worst Twitter app ive found in Android is better than this, its going to take a while also to adjust to the much smaller display, and the whole UI in general. Android's notification system is just genius, ive always liked it but having used the 5800 for 2days as my main phone has had me totaly appreciate who ever thought of Android's notification system.

Posted by jmash
Just had a Nokia e6 for a few minutes and that phone is a real beauty, wouldn't mind getting mysel one of those.

Ja Tsepz.Im using the X10 again with 2.2.1 FreeX10 rom.Loving it.Im done with Symbian for good.

What's up ya'll?

Been a while. Still waiting for the Bold 9900. I'm staying clear of SE unless they start making profits on the phones. As much as I love the Arc, I don't want to buy from a dying company. I honestly don't think my favourite mobile brand is going to be around long.

I'm already thinking of going Apple after the Bold arrives. I just can't stand the Korean phone manufacturers and their Taiwanese cousin (HTC).

I have also decided to join Cell C. I've cancelled my one Vodacom contract and ported to Cell C. I'm currently on prepaid waiting for the Bold before I go contract with Cell C. I'll most probably get the iPhone 5 next year on my other Vodacom contract unless SE survives and makes a decent dual core phone.

Posted by Falcon786
Guys great news, throw away your garmins and tom toms, your x10 or any other android now has full turn by turn voice navigation on google maps!

Way to go google!

Now just waiting for 2.3.3 to be cleared by the sa networks and my x10 will be perfect!

Details?flash tool or did you change the region and use seus,if so then which region?Hobbs is having problems with his apparently.

Posted by Hobbs
@Falcon That would most probably work.Change region (one thats available) and use SEUS.Maybe my problem is my starting point SE 2.1 ROM - Sony Ericsson X10i_2.1.A.435_GLOBAL-GGL GENERIC 1232-9897
That region hasnt been released yet so I cant update through SEUS.Havent had much time to do any downloading at work because its been so busy and I dont want to use up all my data bundle so Ive been impatient and just downloaded the SE 2.3 ROM available on XDA and flashed it on top of the Global -GGL GENERIC.Tried it with both Vodacom and MTN SIMs and same result.Even tried Wolfbreaks SE 2.3 Pre-rooted+xRecovery and its also happens. Many random reboots.

@Jmash Did you do what Falcon said? Change region 2.1 ROM thats been released and update with SEUS?
[ This Message was edited by: Hobbs on 2011-08-03 09:35 ]

Posted by jmash
@Hobbs and Falcon,I didnt use seus,I used the rom from XDA like Hobbs,Seus kept telling me I have the latest software and the wait was killing me man.

Posted by Hobbs
@Jmash The 2.3 ftf from the Flashtool 0.2.9.1 thread? If thats the case and yours works then its my starting point, the SE 2.1 Rom Global Generic GGL rom. What SE 2.1 rom are you on before you upgrade to Gingerbread?

Posted by Falcon786
hobbs got mine working,i couldnt wait any longer...used flash tool with the uk generic rom from this page and its cool......Link text...

Greetings from East London SA, y'all.
This pic was taken along Gonubie Beach today, just outside EL. The shark was stranded on the rocks and these two rather brave okes helped to drag it back into the shallows. The shark was pretty exhausted from all the struggling; perhaps just as well...check those teeth out! LOL. Lekker to see such care, commitment and bravery to save one of nature's prime predators. :

Been taking plenty pics with the 5800, although I regret not bringing the P1i with as well now...

Great pic Wanqs! Are you back in the UK now? any rioting in your area?

All
Got my X10 back early yesterday morning, wasted no time, i charged it up, then followed a very basic guide to change my region code to Nordic Combined (B), then i fired up SEUS, voila New FW Udate available, 20mins later its done and my X10 is on 2.3.3.

So far havent had any major issues other than the odd stutter in the Music player when playing music, im very happy with it, my phone feels new again, glad they got rid of the bloated Mediascape and have trimmed down Timescape, i cannot belive how smooth and fast yet useless Timescape is now, they should just get rid of it, on the other hand the New Music player with widget and EQ is excellent and so is the deeper FB intergration with Facebook-Inside-XPERIA, SE did a great job and learned a valuable lesson, and it shows.

Posted by Kryptik
Great pic, boet! I trust that the Eastern Cape weather is to your liking. On a lighter note, despite the gravity of the situation in London and surrounds, it was nogal a bit funny to see the SA Foreign Office issuing a travel advisory to tourists heading over to the UK. Not every day that the shoe's on the other foot

Posted by Tsepz_GP
heard that on the radio this morning, realy cheeky move, and im sure Mugabe must be grinning ear to ear over in Zim at all this.

Posted by Hobbs
@Tsepz I can't get Gingerbread to work on my phone.I've run out of ideas.Just updated through PC Companion the VodacomZA region Gingerbread and it just randomly reboots after a while, sometimes in a loop when it searches for a signal when I switch the phone on.If I take the sim out,it works fine.Thought it was my sim so tried another Vodacon simcard, same thing. What do you think I should do? Is it worth taking it in and asking them to try and fix it.Its driving me nuts and I'm on the brink of chucking it against the wall and saying f**k phones.lol
