Thats funny Tsepz. Its incredible how clueless some of these people are.Dont even know why theyre working in the industry. Bring on the Gingerbread man! Wouldnt mind a custom version though just in case the official isnt as speedy.Lets hope something gets cooked up soon.Did you see Bin4ry has stopped his work on the X10.Hes getting a DHD.And my opinion on the opening of the bootloader, nobodies mentioned it but I think Geohot played a small role in them making that decision.Sounds stupid I know but with him mentioning that he wants to be one of the first to open it they thought hes gonna eventually do so lets not give him the limelight and just face the inevitable.Whatever the case, good move.

So I decided it was time to S-off my desire.....however ended up semi-bricking it..... spent a day trying to fix it....finally decided to flash stock rom ....it got unrooted and lost all dat coz the backed up rom was corrupt.

after installing custom rom, I rooted it again with unrevoked, tried to S-off it again and succeeded

funny how obsessed one is with all these custom roms lol....

im running CM7 Rc4, alpharev S-off

Posted by Hobbs
True Zani.Ive only used one custom ROM and have never needed to look elsewhere. The FreeX10 Beta 4 2.2.1 Froyo is perfect for me.As soon as they release a stable, fully working Gingerbread I will definitely be trying that.I just love the speed of this custom ROM.Both Tsepz and I tried going back to the official 2.1 and both ended up re-installing 2.2.1.Me in less than 24 hours. Was just so sluggish compared to what we have now.Have fun.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Indeed Hobbs, i wish our networks and manufacturers would find some compitent employees who are always upto date and have some knowledge of the industry, so sick of these idiots.
I would also jump on a complete Gingerbread ROM, i'm growing super impatient to try it out
Geohot does seem to have been a catalyst in the bypassing of the bootloader, it seemed as though the devs had given up untikt Geo popped up, glad its been finaly done though, bring on the custom kernels with ROMs!

Zani
oh man, i know what you mean, the word Data2SD will forever bring shivers down my spine, i bricked my X10 and also had to load stock FW then flash a custom ROM again, and Hobbs said it all. Its addictive, im using Cyanogen 6.1.3 v054 by Wolfbreak, he is always updating his ROMs, updated to v054 today after having updated to v053 last week, i realy like they Cyanogen settings , and his tweaks, the thought that i could have waited for the N8 last year and missed all this is just scary, Android is just too sick.

EDIT: this whole time i keep saying TripNRaVeR when its actualy Wolfbreak, the 1st Cyanogen ROM i tried was by Trip but the rest have been Wolfbreak. Trip's ROMs use MIUI.

The new Xperia Play is been advertised heavily on full-page spreads in the newspapers here:

Saw a photo of the Play over there priced at £499.Thats about 5 grand.Wonder how much they going to release it here in SA for.

Samsung just updated the CPU of the galaxy II to 1.2 Ghz! this phone is a beast! I like the HTC evo 3D mainly coz of developer interest on the HTC brand and HTC pushes updates quicker compared to other manufactures....

So good to see SE pushing so hard, its amazing how their image has almost been completely changed in such a short time thanks to them listening to customers, people who never considered SE's in the past are now buying the Arc or Play instead of waiting for the dual-core droids, never thought i'd see the day where SEs were being praised outside Esato .

Zani
, incredible, the Galaxy-S II reminds me of the N95 in its day, the spec sheet is just mouth wattering, it has EVERYTHING (well except xenon flash), and to think we only see its true potential in Android2.4, i cant wait, it has got me thinking what on earth i'll be upgrading to in June next year??? Quad-core 1.4GHz??? The hardware is evolving so fast not even the software can keep up.

Posted by Hobbs
Tsepz June next year. Its going to be awesome.Im still not sick of my X10 so the wait is not going to be a killer.Still so much to be done with this phone.Once those devs have got all the testing done and dusted and start releasing the goodies that we have all been waiting for then the fun begins.Been popping in everyday to see if theres any big news but nothing as yet.

Wangs How you been?

Posted by amawanqa
Been very busy, H.

We're finally on holiday and jetting off to Canada later today for a break with the better half, for a week and a half. First time I'm going there. We'll be just outside Toronto, a place called Burlington. Quite keen to see what the cellphone scene's like there. The 5800 and P1i are both coming with.

@ Tsepz:
LOL, yeah, and their ad campaigns of late are the biggest I've seen for a long time. There's billboards with Arc and Play on, more ads in mags and papers, etc. Making those handsets around Android has really saved .

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Hobbs
Yep, same here, im so tempted to try a 2.3 ROM, its killing me, they must hurry up!

Wanqs
Enjoy Canada! Looking forward to those pics!

Did anyone here in Jhb enter the Free Nokia E7 early bird competition where the 1st 100 people to bring their old Eseries to Vodaworld would get a free E7 on the morning of 16th April (today)?
Seems it quickly turned into a major PR disaster, check the comments from when people arrived this morning: http://ringaz.nokia.co.za/mob[....]ird-catches-the-free-nokia-e7/ was tempted to take the E51 there, but i just had a bad gut feel about it and didnt bother, seems i was right not to go, hope those people who did get some sort of compensation as it looks it was handled very badly.

Anyone interested in Windows Phone here?
Here's a link to the MIX11 event, its 2hours long but the 1st 45-50mins are realy interesting: http://channel9.msdn.com/Events/MIX/MIX11/KEY02

Left me a little underwhelmed, as Android already has many of those things, the Live Agents feature is realy sweet though, but the rest is nothing realy new, im a bit put off by its UI, too much black, and a waste of screen real-estate by the large text and over sized widgets (LiveTiles), wonder what Nokia will add to it.

Posted by Hobbs
Wow Tsepz. That Nokia thing sounded like a massive F-up.Wouldnt have minded taking my E90 in for an E7.Would have been a sweet swap.
Windows Mobile.Maybe next year when Nokia join the party. For now Im all Android.

Posted by Hobbs
Hope you having fun in Canada Wangster.

Tsepz Giving Wolfbreaks 2.2.1 CM 6.1.3 V05 a test run.Did the update to V06 but couldnt get a network signal so re-installed V05 without update.Alls fine now.First BM=1332 Second BM=1349 and third BM=1350.So thats a good start.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Nice one Hobbs, there's something VERY wrong with v06, i updated to it and got endless FCs so went back to V054 and it kept the V06 tweaks and working very well
How do you like the Cyanogen Settings and UI?

Posted by Hobbs
Its very nice Tsepz. The reason why I changed is that I saw a poll - Which Rom do you think is the best? and Wolfbreaks Rom was speeding ahead.Made me think maybe I'm missing out on something. And my verdict. It isn't as speedy (but it is a fuller package and not just the bare essentials.I like it so far.And also he seems to be active whereas Zhizhu has just vanished from developing his FreeX10.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Totaly agree, not as snappy as FreeX10 but a fuller package, i just couldn't bring myself to stick with a bare ROM after having used Wolfbreak and Trip's ROMs.

I'd highly recommend trying Launcher Pro with this ROM, my X10 is just so smooth and fast with this ROM and LP, its incredible, wish my internet was the same...although Voda today phoned to inform me that they are sending out someone to come test and fix the tower this side, its made using Whatsapp, FB, Twitter, Browser etc...an absolute pain.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Gosh, i wish i had kept this as a spare: http://esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=201230
Probaby my favourite SE of all time, wonder where mine landed up after SE took it after giving me a crappy W880 as a replacement.

Been checking out the cell shops and networks here in Canada; Rogers, Fido, Wind, Telus, Koodo, Bell.
Took some bril pics from the sky pod on top of the famous CN Tower in Toronto, at sunset. Fortunately it was a fairly clear evening. The 5800's battery conked out with all the happy-snapping, so the better half's Xperia Mini came in handy..
Will upload pics when I'm back across The Pond over the weekend.

Posted by amawanqa
Oh ya, forgot Virgin from that list of Canadian networks.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Been very quiet around here, hope you're all well and had a great Easter Weekend

Hobbs
Has your X10 developed any USB issues? Seems mine may need to go in very soon, recently ive noticed that when i plug in the charger my X10 will sometimes not realise its plugged in until i push it upwards a bit i hope it doesn't get worse would hate to send it in, once your phone has been stripped and then put together again its never the same from there on.
I think i'm being punished for making fun of my friend's BBs and the issues they have, but i simply cannot help having a go at them everytime they have to reboot or reinstall software.

Tsepz Mine is still fine.I know what you mean by when it comes back it never feels the same.My E90 after it came back never felt like my E90 ever again. They had to unscrew those little feet pads on the bottom of the phone to get to the screws and scratched the f out of my phone. Then they left glue all around the feet.Taking the glue off started taking off the first layer of paint.Truth be told I'll only be happy with the E90 again if I get a back cover to replace the old one.
Uncaring bastards.Hope they look after your X10 if you have to send it in.Be a shame if they screwed it up.Like stratching your screen or something.Good luck in getting it fixed.I hope I never have to send this phone in.

Nice pics Wangs.Like the Hobbs Honda. Public transport looks a treat by the look of those trams and trains. Is that a long distance train or just your usual train?

Posted by amawanqa
LOL, thanks H. Ya the 'Go Train' is kinda like the Gautrain in a way, in that it connects up a lot of the outlying urban areas. The other trains I saw were more conventional-looking and they've also got the subway around the city centre.
Here's a map of the Go Train's routes around the greater Toronto area:

Some incredible pics Wanqs!!
I realy dig that Ford with the black grill looks like an X6/SAV type car, and that Chevorlette Tahoe, are they Chev or GMC? Between the two i often get confused, do GMC tune or own Chev? Many of their cars look alike, the Tahoe and that GMC look a lot a like, my word the F150 and that Toyota pick-up are HUGE, realy awesome pics.
Americans realy have strange tastes in cars, some of them are absolutely dog ugly and others are simply beautiful and look futuristic...what on earth is that white Ford with the chrom rims and grill? Looks like a family car, i cant decide whether i like it or not ,its amazing how little of Fords line-up we see here, they have some interesting models in North America.
NOS energy drink, that would be a hot seller here in SA.
Canada looks like a great place, did you find their English accent a bit weird? South Park always make fun of their accent and Canadians in general, never realy understood why
Must have been a fantastic holiday

Love the glass floor in that elevator.Must have been quite a thrill.

Posted by amawanqa
@ Tsepz:
Thanks boet. Ya those cars are huge alright. The Toyota is a pick-up called a Tundra (they'd have to change that name if they wanted to sell it in sunny SA, methinks.. although I dunno about calling it the Toyota 'Fynbos' ). Here's another (Nokia 5800) pic of it:

The white Ford with the grooves in the doors and chrome rims and grill is called the Ford Flex. I saw quite a few of them around. A glorified estate/station wagon more than anything.

Not sure about the Chev-GMC relationship though.

Ya the Canadians often say 'eh?' at the end of some sentences (there was even Canadian souvenir shirts on with 'The Eh? Team' printed on them ) , kind of like we say 'hey' a lot at the end of statements etc in SA, but their accent sounds exactly the same as the average Yank's accent to me, but the Yanks also like joking about the Canadians too, as is evident in South Park and some other US programmes. All just joking n' teasing about their northern neighbours.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Wanqs, Toyota Fynbos, yah i bet that thing is quite the gas guzzler, they should bring some of those to SA, will help deal with the taxis, they would think twice before chopping in front of one of those.

Speaking of Yanks, i'd hate to be on their side of the pond right now, killing Usama may just have been their biggest mistake yet.

Nice one Hobbs, LOL!

I am so not into phones at the moment Tsepz.By been that way it make the Gingerbread update wait a little less painful. All I can see on XDA is Gingerbread custom Roms from Jerpelea and Trip.Unfortunitely both are still works in progress and not good enough for me to try out yet.Very disappointing. Will get excited about all things mobile again I think once I get that update on my phone.

That will indeed make the wait less painful, unfortunetly with this exam study break all i do is study and read mobile blogs and ofcourse FB and Tweet and even there im hit with mobile news lol, got me a new hobby today though, im trying my hand at foreign exchange trading with FOREX, got a 30day practice account which will allow me to get into the hang of things, maybe some day i'll do it with real money, using the Forex Android app to trade and also watching Bloomberg for news and tips, should keep me going until next month

Sweet pics there Wanqs, P1 still going strong i see.

@JMash: Try this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=945264

Might need to do some reading if it is your first time..... It will give you a new phone. Add the undervolting tweak when you are feeling more confident. Excellent battery life....
