Yeah, the Moto Droid X was the one that made decide to go full touch. I was set on getting that till Moto decided it wasn't for SA. Then came the perfect P1i replacement in the Droid Pro and again Moto decided the Americans were the only one getting it. I'm slowly giving up on Moto being serious about us.

I have stopped taking Eldar the lunatic seriously. He has proven to be an idiot of note too many times. He crushed the N8's camera and we know how that turned out, he provided completely false info on his Arc preview and again was proven wrong. There are too many glaring inaccuracies in a lot of his information that it would be foolish to believe anything he writes.

I also hope that Nokia don't deviate too much from Maemo and try and be a copy cat of Android. I loved Maemo as well, remember how I wished and pleaded for Nokia to bring out an E71 type Maemo device? I thought and still think that Maemo was just wonderful and with time would be exceptional, I just wonder how much of inroads will the OS make in the face of such fierce competition in the form of iOS and Android.

Installed Flash Player 10.
Opened BBCNews and playing flash videos from within the site works perfectly. No wifi issues either.

So far so good.

So nice not having Mediascape/Timescape.Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Im a happy chappy.

Posted by Dups!
Wow, it tops everything on those scores. Congrats Hobbs!

Thus far what are the major improvements over Eclair?

Posted by Hobbs
Dups Never had a Stock Eclair ROM but compared to SE's Eclair it just feels clean without all SE's junk and Blue background everywhere. Its quite nippy overall.Definite performance and speed improvement. That is my main reason for wanting 2.2.Speed.
Stock Contact and Messaging is nice without any of that fancy shit and lag.
Flash 10 very cool.Playing Flash videos within sites is quite nice I have to admit.Didnt care much for it but now that it works its a nice addition.
My battery life seems to have improved quite alot.Been drilling this phone over Wifi the whole day and its only dropped a little.
This ROM comes pre-rooted which is also nice.
Love the new look Lock screen and notification panel.
Theyve done a fantastic job thus far.
Still setting my phone up again so will tell more when I discover more.

Posted by Hobbs
LED light is now white when message comes through.Doesnt blink but I can live with that.
When charging its half yellow half green.
Didnt know it had so many colours

Dups
Lol, very true, and now he's suddenly positive about SE and their new products.
You're going to love Android when you get the Arc, today i got a 3rd party app store, Applanet, it has all paid apps free, we cant pay for apps yet here in SA so that's a great excuse to use it i just loaded up my X10 with a ton of 'HD' Gameloft and other games as well as premium apps like Documents-To-Go full version, System Panel full version etc... This OS just keeps suprising me, just when you think you know and have the best apps for their functions you find something even better, my X10 has been on charge for the past 3 hours due to downloading game files, each around 75-120mb, that Arc must be released A.S.A.P!!

Hobbs
Nice one!! I'm realy tempted now! My word, shocking to know just how powerful the X10 is, someone got 1500 with theirs at XDA, SE just dont know what they have here. Have you tried the camera? And how's the web browser? A vast improvement?
If you haven't already, try Applanet, here's the latest version:
http://www.speedyshare.com/files/26443605/app.apk makes you feel like a kid in a candy store...and everything is free.

Browser has speeded up quite a bit.Going to have to install Dual Touch soon I think because Zoom onscreen keys are not present.Havent run my camera as yet.Know theres issues there so not going to even bother until resolved. You'll enjoy the clean feel of this ROM.SE screwed up bad with their overlay. For their first offering of Android they should have held back a tad and tested the watered instead of the overkill the X10 became.Hope the Arc corrects all that.

Posted by Hobbs
Pretty spectacular Tsepz.Saw that a while back on Ipmart but just never downloaded it.Now that I have Im thinking why the hell didnt I.Was always just visiting Ipmart for that kind of thing.

Posted by Hobbs
My mistake Tsepz.Visual onscreen Zoom is available.Just had to tick it in Browser settings.

Posted by Dups!
@Tsepz_GP

I'm looking forward to joining the Android world and you and Hobbs will have to help me out here and there since the both of you are now veterans of the OS and I'll be a noob

I'm with you on the X10, SE have a very powerful machine in the X10. It's a pity they couldn't unleash its full potential.

Whens the Arc been released Dups.1st April? South Africa?
[ This Message was edited by: Hobbs on 2011-01-27 19:37 ]

Posted by Dups!
SE said Q1 and the one UK provider has it listed for March while another for April 01. The Swedish ones have it listed for March. I guess South Africa is looking at May/June.

I hope Vodacom has the black one cause that's the one I like.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Dups, i wont lie,it takes some getting used to, paticularly multitasking and taskmanagement which if you remember when i got the X10 i wasn't impressed with, but what a fantastic OS it is.

Posted by Hobbs
Now that Ive installed the FreeX10 ROM this phone has got more of that iPhone smoothness and speed quality.SE UI weighed alot and now that its been discarded this phone is in a sense more free.

Posted by Hobbs
Tsepz Camera is working perfectly.Prefer it to the SE one.Its very quick to launch.Camcorder is just a fuzzy mess.

Got the Xperia X10 Mini Pro for my friend today from Vodacom for her upgrade. It came with the Donut 1.6 firmware and it was shit shit shit.
First thing, charged the phone full, plugged it into the PC and installed Eclair 2.1
It became a fantastic phone.
Donut on the X10 Mini Pro is awful. For a small screen like that there is no room for error.Sluggish and heavy.Put on 2.1 and that thing flies.

Posted by lelando
I walked on a jetty wearing my normal workin clothes as i walked towards the edge of the jetty and leaned foward to check the seal in the water my Xperia X10 Mini Pro cellphone fell into the water it was a sad lost I kinda liked that mini phone sadly im stuck with my e63 right now.
What do you guys think of the samsung galaxy I hear its a good phone im getting a upgrade in february is it worth getting one?

Posted by Hobbs
lelando Shit bud.Sorry to hear about your Mini Pro.
About your upgrade.Wait a wee while. The big guns are just around the corner.

I bought the e63 of the internet for R500 it was sealed in the box still when I got it.the only prob I had with the kit was that nokia didn't provide people with the software or usb cables to hook up your phone to the pc. if you buy the phone new now you pay like R1600 and if you buy the cable and software loos you pay extra R200 at vodacom thats then R1800 even though you can download the pc suite for free of the nokia website anyhow my point is if you pay 1600 and 200 for the cables you might just aswell buy the blackberry for R1999 that phone is much better anyways

Geez Wangs,I'd never thought I say this but The Cure have made some crap albums.

Posted by amawanqa
Ya boet, I'm quite selective as to what stuff of theirs that I listen to. Some of their stuff really does qualify for the 'must try harder' category.

@ lelando:
Welcome to the SA Mobile Discussion.

Posted by Hobbs
Must try harder category doesnt even come into the picture for me.Some of their stuff falls in the ' This belongs in the bin category.' Experimental garbage. Some songs youve got that definite Cure sound but with Robert Smith wailing in the background non-sensibly like his intestines are falling out his stomach.Hate it when bands get bored and want to tinkle round with something new that is so against the grain to the formula that brought them success.

Downloaded Sisters Of Mercy London Live.Wow! How I would love to see that band live.It was quite recent so they are getting on there in years but the albums fantastic. His deep voice and the heavy bass fight it out so you gotta fiddle a bit with your equalizer settings to get a balanced lisrening experience.Love their classics and the way they alter it for the Live experience.Great band.

Saw them live in London in '98 methinks....very good but took some getting used to (the live versions compared to the recorded stuff). Haven't heard much about/from them recently. ** must go and have a look at their website for nostaglia sakes, he says to himself .....**

Fantastic Rob.Must have been awesome.

What you running on your phone at the moment?

Posted by Dups!
Did any of you Vodacom subscribers have problems calling or receiving calls yesterday the whole day till the evening? I experienced that with both my numbers until around 8 o'clock, strange part was I could use the internet without any problems. This experience has made me decide to port one of my numbers to either Cell C or MTN when the contract runs out, I don't want to be left stranded like that again. Imagine if I were in an emergency situation. What if the network is down for longer than a day? Disturbing stuff.

Posted by Hobbs
Sorry Dups cant help you there.Yesterday didnt make any calls.Recieved calls.None that I know of.

Posted by Dups!
Okay Hobbs.

Where's Tsepz_GP when one needs him? Maybe it was my area only, probably Vodacom doing some repairs or service.

Still I'm porting one number to be safe. My other contract ends in April next year and it is definitely going to either MTN or Cell C, I just need to research these two to see who gives me better value.

Been a bit scarce as I've been so busy with bike-related thingies in the evenings. One of the bike charities here used my delightful rat bike to further attract attention at the London Motorcycle Show this weekend. Thing is, several companies (including bike insurance ones) saw it as an opportunity to draw further attention together with their promo chicks. Before you knew it, they were around the stand for 'beauty and the beast'-type pics, and guys were taken plenty of photos as you can imagine... the male species is so easy to lure... :

Was running Emminence 1.2, but I have been on FreeX10 Beta 3 for a while and loving it. Not keen on Beta 4, but will go to next one / Beta 5. Looking forward to Gingerbread when the war in that thread dies down....lol

Edit: That '98 should read 10 June 97 (showing my age here.....tsk)

Finally the mighty Nokia quivers in its boots.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-12403466

Posted by Dups!
Interesting read, Hobbs! Thanks.

It is good to acknowledge faults and problems but Nokia is in for a torrid time. Nokia has never faced such fierce competition in its existence.

Let's see how they react to this.

Posted by Hobbs
I like this statement the best Dups.
"The first iPhone shipped in 2007, and we still don't have a product that is close to their experience,"

Nice girls Wangs.Pity you are hitched hey
Would it have been the Blond Twin Sisters,Tattoo Girl or the two Misses Goodie Two Shoes

Hats off to the ohnesty by CEO Stephen Elop of Nokia.'Join another ecosystem.'Tsepz you might be seen a Nokia running Android in the not so distant future.

Finally made the jump to 2.2.1 with Cyanogen Mod007 and MIUI Theme this afternoon, extremely happy with it, the phone is just flying, boots up in seconds and the UI is so fast, busy setting it up now, just have to install Market and Applanet and get some new apps to. Will post screenshots once I'm sorted.

perfect.

@Hobbs

Amazing how things change over time. The iPhone pretty much changed the game and in turn screwed up Nokia and the rest. The difference is that the other embraced Android which was at the time trying to emulate iOS. Nokia, however, was stubborn and believed Symbian could compete and look at them now. The day UIQ 'died' I knew it wasn't going to end well for Symbian. I am waiting to see the evolution of Maemo to Meego to see what it has to offer.
Nokia using another OS, if they ever do, is like saying we have failed with Symbian in particular, the jury is still out there for Meego.

@syfy000

Hi there!

I've never used my P1i for anything other than to transfer music from my laptop. If, however, that is what you are trying to do judging by your last sentence I suggest you uninstall and then install the drivers. If that doesn't help change your USB cable.

Good luck!

Awesome Tsepz.Told you you would like.Woohoo!

Keep me posted how thing are going Tsepz. Is it a different ROM to the Free X10 Beta 3 by zhizu. If it is , link please so I can check it out.

Interesting times ahead for Nokia.Keeping a close eye on that story. How the mighty have fallen.

In your position, wanqs, you are not entitled to even little attention! Gon' tell the wife

@Tsepz

Thanks. After thinking about it for some time now I decided it is best to have different networks in my pockets. I am porting one number next April. The question now is which between Cell C and MTN.
