Speaking of both Wish and Disintegration Hobbster, I made a CD of 'assembly music', which I play when the kids walk in and out of assembly. Out of the twelve-odd songs on there, there's 2 tracks of The Cure on there, one is Plainsong (1st track) from Disintegration and 'To Wish Impossible Things' from the 'Wish' album.
I've also got that Rob D 'Clubbed To Death' song from The Matrix soundtrack (also used for the Hugo Boss TV ads here) on there, at least one Massive Attack track on there, plus some stuff by a Sikh digital artist/muso, called Talvin Singh. Check out his album 'Ha!' and others. Unique blend of Indian (Punjabi)-techno crossover.

One of his many bass-driven tracks:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbQM0eBJeq0&feature=related

Here's another link to one of the songs on youtube, called 'Sway Of The Verses'. The song builds up for nearly 3 bloody minutes, with the atmosheric vocals, then tabla drums etc, before the techno drum n' bass kicks in halfway through the song...yeah it's a long into.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWo4t333ky4

There's other tracks like 'Jaan' etc on youtube as well:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?[....]dCwVVULXc5sb8D6XncdTZqsEvyZTk2

It won't be everyone's cup of tea, but the predominantly Indian/Pakistani/Bengali/Sri Lankan kids and support staff in the school relate to it well.

I'm done with both SE & Nokia. Both make good hardware with sh!t software and support, i wish i had known the Samsung Galaxy-S was going to be a good phone i could have waited, i like my X10 but being stuck on 2.1 with not even a fully stable custom ROM from XDA was never part of the plan, with Android being open my "Plan B" if SE ditch was to throw in a custom ROM but that doesnt look like it's gona happen, my next smartphone will be a Sammy or Moto.

On the brightside we have the update with the sort of "multitouch" coming up, but im realy not impressed with SE, they are still as arrogant as ever, i hope whatever Samsung&HTC have planned for MWC trumps the Arc in every way, we already have the Moto ATRIX, Sammy and Htc must just finish them off, SE should be sleeping with the fishes come 2013. That's how i feel, lol.

@ Tsepz:

Have you seen this(taken from The Register)?:

'South African wireless traffic lights pillaged by SIM-card thieves

Don't stop at the lights unless you want free phone calls

Posted in Crime, 6th January 2011 14:28 GMT

The Johannesburg Road Agency is in talks with suppliers to try and stop thieves targeting its shiny new traffic lights for the SIM cards they contain.

The Agency has been forking out thousands of rand on phone calls the thieves subsequently make using the snaffled SIMs.

Thulani Makhubela, spokesman for the JRA, said: “The JRA has been severely affected with this crime and this now means we have to fork out more money on something that we should not have spent a cent on.”

Makubela said the agency was now cancelling the SIMs stolen from the GPRS units inside some of the traffic lights and working with Johannesburg police to stop the traffic light thefts. Ordinary lights have not been targeted by the gangs – although there were some thefts of traffic light poles last year for their scrap value.

The spokesman said the JRA was also in talks with suppliers to make the lights' components more secure.

He told the Guardian the attacks were "systematic and co-ordinated" and thieves knew which lights to attack and "clearly have information".

Four hundred out of 600 SIM-equipped traffic lights have been hit in the last three months and it will cost R8.8m (£838,000) to replace missing components and repair them.'

Going to check out some of that music links you pasted. Thanks bud.
"Unique blend of Indian (Punjabi)-techno crossover." (how can you say no to that )

F@#k! What more can I say hey bud.

Wanqa, gota love SA, the thieves clearly had insider info, as it always is with crime here.
Hobbs, indeed, atleast apps/games are being made for 2.1 and up so we wont miss out, but 2.2's speed increases would have been appreciated.

Posted by amawanqa
Hey Hobbster, looks like the Proteas are (cough) choking again...

Posted by Hobbs
Hate that SA 20/20 side.To many unfamiliar faces.Did you see both AB and Kallis both fetched $1000000 + at the IPL auction.Thats big bucks.

Posted by amawanqa
Ya, and Steyn went for $1.2 mill. Yoh, could buy lots of N8's with that, LOL.

Also taken from The Register:

'OK, so Sony's networking chief Kaz Hirai didn't announce the PlayStation Phone - or even confirm that this eagerly anticipated gadget is on the way, but he came darn close during his Consumer Electronics Show (CES) presentation this evening in Las Vegas.

He did confirm - twice, in case assembled hacks and analysts missed it first time - that Sony has a series of tablets in the pipeline, though whether Android, Windows 7 or both, he didn't say.

But Hirai did emphasise the a central part of Sony's strategy going forward through 2011 will be to leverage across its product range branding and expertise gained from specific parts of the line-up. He mentioned the PlayStation.

One example is Sony Ericsson's Xperia Arc Android smartphone, which leverages both Sony's telly brand, Bravia, and one of its camera tech brands, Exmor, to emphasise the quality of the handset's screen and camera, respectively.

Sony has done this in the past - the Cyber-shot and Walkman phone lines, in particular - but Hirai implied we'll see a lot more of this in the year ahead and beyond.

Some major announcements will come very soon, he said with a teasing 'you know what I mean' grin on his face. It's tempting to read that as a reference to next month's Mobile World Congress phone industry shindig in Barcelona - surely a likely venue for a PlayStation Phone announcement.'

Are you ever tempted to go back to iOS? Looks like the current range is getting one sweet update, and the iP5 is starting to sound like a tempting device: http://www.gsmarena.com/ios_4[....]estures_and_more-news-2221.php

Tsepz Not in the least.Gonna wait and see what Blackberry have to offer me in the year 2012.Im pretty happy with my X10.F the rest!
Was going to install Froyo Beta 1 last night (Zhizhu ROM).Downloaded everything I need but cant get the Android SDK installed on my Windows 7 64-bit system and you need it to KillAllServices on your phone from the PC after the first boot up.(No network and screen all crazy)
Will have to do some more homework. Not in any rush though.Just curious.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
im way too afraid to try Froyo beta1, i'll wait until it's possible to put custom ROMs with ROM Manager.apk ,good luck with it
I'm going to keep an eye on iOS , Meego and WP7, im also very happy with my X10 and Android, but a part of me is realy growing curious of WP7, by 2012 it should be mature and due to Microsoft's strict requirements devices wont have any strange things missing and there should be more consistancy in apps and games, it looks like it may become a great mix of iOS and Android.

Posted by Hobbs
Tsepz I was as well until I used xRecovery to install JIT and realized its not as scary as I thought. But its not worth it at the Beta 1 stage IMO.To many split ends for my liking.

Wanga Did you watch that dismal cricket match on Saturday. How the hell could they have lost?

Posted by amawanqa
Sigh Hobbster, yeah I find that a (choke...choke...) bitter one to swallow..
so much for losing the 'chokers' tag. We're not going to win the world cup, boet. We just can't manage pressure like that. Unfortunately. I'll only be too happy if I'm proven wrong, but if I was a betting man, my money would be quite safe, methinks.

Posted by Hobbs
Yeah Wangs, with a month to go before the WC that is not the kind of cricket you want to see the boys playing.

Posted by Dups!
What's up y'all in the new year? Hope you all started this year positively.

I just found found my next phone, the Arc is just perfect for me. I LOVE IT!!!

I don't care about the dual core processors particularly since they're still first generation, I'd much rather have second generation dual cores since I'm sure they'll be improved compared to the current. That is another reason I like the Arc so much because of its second generation 1ghz processor. Sleek, sexy and with really good specs.

Took SE long but I'd say it was worth it.

@Hobbs and Wanqs

I'd also put my money on the Proteas NOT winning the World Cup. They had no business losing that ODI! I feel Wayne Parnell showed his lack of experience, I know a few people disagree with me but needing 2 runs from 53 or so ball and you are going to rush that shot like that was uncalled for. I know the tail was batting but he needed to be calm and composed, it's not like he is that useless with the bat.

Posted by amawanqa
Ja nee, and another poefie performance tonight too..

Posted by Dups!
Ongelooflik!!

Our batting sucks big time! I, personally, feel our bowlers are top notch with the exception of Parnell ( I know it sounds like I'm picking on him but he was woeful last night). The Parnell I saw in the 20/20 world cup was brilliance personified but this current one is terrible. Maybe I should cut him some slack as he is from injury. Would've been nice and interesting to see Tahir yesterday.

Morne was just devastating, I was like what in the world has got into him. He really was on fire! Pity his unbelievable work was undone by our pathetic batsmen. Kallis needs to get back soon!

@Tsepz_GP

I'm currently playing with the N8. No, it's not mine it's my brother's who loves Nokia. He just upgraded to it.

The pluses are excellent build quality- really impressed by this, lovely screen colours and brightness, relatively speedy and responsive (though I'm still looking for something that's as responsive as the Iphone 4).

One the negatives I find that Symbian hasn't progressed at all in terms of user experience. iOS and Android have really changed the game cause the N8 feels like the P1i pimped up. It is a great device if you haven't touched and Iphone or an Android device.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Indeed Dups, i felt the same when i had it, there are things i realy liked like the build quality, camera, FM Transmitter, HDMI, and USB-OTG, but then you start using it overtime and you begin to see the old symbian annoyances pop up and news ones to, it's bitter sweet, IMO, awful software but brilliant hardware.
Speaking of the P1,i wonder how UIQ would have been like now if it hadn't been dropped, maybe Symbian would still be the best in terms of both UI and functionality.

Posted by Dups!
I quike like the FM transmitter. The camera is an obvious feature, I tried it a couple of times and it really is excellent for a phone. Is it me or my brother's phone but its accelerometer is rather on the slow side. It has a slight lag, I've seen faster.

The last UIQ version, I think it was to be named UIQ 4 or something along those lines was truly amazing for its time. It was shown by UIQ labs a few months before SE dumped the interface. Think of it this way, what the Iphone UI is but with prettier icons. The question that remained was what hardware was it going to utilize.
[ This Message was edited by: Dups! on 2011-01-19 13:34 ]

Posted by Tsepz_GP
The accelerometer is most definetly slow, it's actualy one of the most popular issues on the N8, that and push email either not arriving or being slow.
Have you tried the music player on the N8? It must be the most fluid and smooth piece of software ive ever seen.

That's a shame, i'm sure it would have run just fine on the Satio's hardware (256mb RAM, 512mb ROM, TI OMAP3430 CPU, PowerVR SGX530 GPU etc...), as S60v5 was just not optimized for such hardware.

Posted by Dups!
I see, I was beginning to think there was something wron with the phone's accelerometer or maybe I was being harsh on the phone. I'll try emails and see what happens. I'm still to get to the music player, I read that it was also brilliant in terms of audio quality.

It's a shame indeed that UIQ was killed off cause Satio with that hardware would've been amazing.

Posted by Dups!
Fellas, I need some help here. Anyone with an idea please help, wanqs would probably be best placed here (assuming he's had this problem).

Here goes: my P1i can't read the simcard's phonebook. It started around late November and I have no clue what the problem is. It reads the phone's phonebook but if I switch to the sim phonebook it says 'Reading from sim' and retrieves nothing, it flashes that message until I cancel it. This also has an effect on incoming/outgoing calls in thatno names are displayed when I call or receive stored names.

Thanks.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Music quality is excellent, and for once Nokia have bundled their phone with a great set of in-ear headphones, i wish SE had done that with the X10.

Maybe your sim is damaged Dups, or your P1's sim reader is damaged?

Posted by Dups!
I found the problem. I googled (don't know why I didn't think of that first) it and iturns out the P1i has a phonebook bug related to voice dialling and sim. I removed all my voice dial tags on the names, rebooted the phone and voila. Coincidentally, I added voice tags around November- the same time the problem started.

Tsepz_GP

The damn phone is incredible when it comes to audio reproduction! Absolutely superb! I have some Sure earbuds and the phone gives some rich, full and balanced sound. It is never harsh or tiring. I wonder how the Arc will sound cause this is stunning.

I'm more than impressed, only wish it was Android and I would upgrade to it.

Posted by Hobbs
Hey Dups.Nice to hear from you again. That cricket hey.Awful.I dont feel like you were unfairly picking on Parnell. The whole match I was screaming at the TV at him.But the ohnest truth is we lost it when Botha went for those three sixes in that over. That totally killed us off.Next match is most probably going to be rained out so that last one we have to win to draw the series. That wouldnt be a bad result at all.

Tsepz Been watching Window 7 mobile YouTube videos and I am pretty interested myself.A 2012 Windows 7 phone might be in the offering for both of us.

Posted by Dups!
Hey Hobbs! I agree those sixes totally destroyed our chances. You were screaming at your tv you say, I burned my croch with coffee because of Parnell. Everytime he came on to bowl I was swearing, and that swearing ended up with coffee on me. A draw wouldn't be bad at all.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Indeed Hobbs we have to give all these OSs a spin, i wish Voda had 12month contracts, a phone-whore like me gets impatient after 12months, and all these OS are attractive in their own ways.

Eldar seems very happy with the upcoming SE "Vivaz2"/Hallon: http://www.mobile-review.com/review/sonyericsson-vivaz2-en.shtml some very positive words from him.

Series levelled at 2-2.Sunday is going to be a cracker.

Wangs has your Misses got the Mini or Mini Pro?
Does it have the latest 2.1 Update 1 firmware?
All I can say is that phone is damn fast.
Its a pleasure to use.

Posted by Hobbs
We wrapped up that final ODI international very unconvincingly. At least we won the series. At one stage I was quite concerned with the power hitting that was going down.

Posted by amawanqa
@ Hobbster:

She's got the X10 Mini.

Yeah the cricket was a bit of a concern when Pathan was going ballistic like that.. yoh.
Been a really tight series overall.

Posted by Dups!
Went to Vodashope today to enquire about the Arc and as per norm the lady I was speaking to didn't know what in the world I was talking about. She asked another guy who gave the standard 'we are waiting on Sony Ericsson'.

Sometimes Vodashop makes me mad! I really want this phone and I can't wait, looking forward to using a current Sony Ericsson phone that feels like the old SE. I don't care what Samsung and HTC come up with at MWC cause this is the first SE phone that is balanced in every way. They can keep their dual core processor for now.

The V8 is on its way to the drawer to join the Bold. I'm also contemplating upgrading to the Blackberry Dakota next year on my second contract cause it is exactly what the P1i is. Having the 9700 has taught me to be tolerant of Blackberry's dull approach to mobile phones so I'm sure I will tolerate the Dakota. If, however, SE comes up with a 2011 P1i in Android that appeals to me then screw Blackberry.

I have realized that I can't do without SE's excellent user experience and I would rather stay with them than move especially now that they have got their act together.

Funny thing is i have not yet got my hands on any of the XPERIA Minis. A phone i like that i only recently got to use was the Aino, if i wasn't into smartphones that would have been my phone now, very beautiful and well built.

Posted by Dups!
@Tsepz_GP
I actually thought about you when you wrote that had you known that the Galaxy would've been such a good phone you would've gone for it instead of the X10. The reason was that I was offered the SGS for my Bold by my sister's husband last week. I turned it down cause I hoestly can't stand Samsung and LG. I don't see myself getting any of those brands in my life.

I know Samsung are more than likely to come up with a super phone at MWC along with HTC but they just don't get my pulse racing. I must say I'm looking forward to Nokia's Meego flagship, something tells me we are in for a mega phone. Nokia's about to turn on the screws on other manufactures I feel.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
i was realy unhappy with SE when i wrote that, but what ive realised is that the Galaxy-S is actualy a very buggy and troublesome phone, just to get it to run properly many have had to turn to custom ROMs and patchs.

I agree, wouldn't get a SAMSUNG or LG and even a HTC, as highly speccd as they are i just cant see myself with them. I do wish though that Motorola had brought the Droid X here, ive had my eye on it since it was released, if SE dont make a dual-core Android, i'd take a Moto one.

Also looking forward to the MeeGo Nokias, although Eldar just keeps giving negative feedback about them i hope its not too Android-wana-be, i liked the Maemo5 UI in the N900, i hope it@s a lot like that.

I was so close to installing Froyo 2.2.1 on my X10, only thing stopping me is that the current Beta3 ROM doesn't support video recording which i use alot, hopefuly the next release has it. I like this whole xRecovery method since using it to install JIT. Here's the guide to install Froyo Beta3 for X10: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=908791
