Busy updating now to 2.1.Did the Nordic flash (takes no time what-so-ever),plugged into PC Companion and it started preparing my phone for 2.1.
Wunderbar!
21% there. GO GO GO!

I hate updating my X10 using my Nokia E90 as a modem.Very temperamental.Thank God SEUS remembers where your updating left off.Second time disconnecting my connection and retrying and then carrying off where I left off.OK looks like third time stuck on 57.7MB.Can still web browse.Connections still there.Just not to SEUS.
EISH!
Should have done this at work with the MWEB connection.

I just updated an hour who, had the very same issues, was using my 5800 as a modem, had to retry already 3 times, but luckily as you said SEUS remembers where you last were. Typing this using SE's2.1 keyboard, my X10 is super hot and laggy right now,its busy restoring, my back ups, in sure it will get better as I go. Loving the browser!

Hey guys. I have been more quiet than usuall, but with good reason.

With regards to phone as modem, I think windows mobile 6.5 offers the best solution. I use internet sharing on the phone, you connect, the phone to the internet, and plug in your usb... works much like a router. connect-plugin-surf-...

Anyway, my wife went in to hospital for an emergency c-section last week sunday. Baby was born 2 months premature and is still in ICU but he is doing very good.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Congratulations to you and your Mrs, Rhino hope he gets out of there soon, glad he is doing fine.

Ye,looks a lot like the Vivaz.
Its exactly what many Android gaming fans have been waiting for with that PSX Emulator.

Congratulations Rhino.Glad the little baba is ok.

Tsepz Rooted 2.1 using Super One Click.

Congrats, rhino! Fantastic news.

I hope they don't screw this on up, cos it's looking bright.

Lol, yeah, they must keep it upto date, the UXP UI in 2.1 is good enough already, they must just update the core OS itself now
Dups!
I tried Firefox, it was an 11mb download file, and once installed takes around 35-40mb. One word: Awful. Luckily its a Beta, it needs a lot of work, it was fast to load pages, but realy jerky and especialy when zooming, looking forward to the final though, it has potential.

Posted by Hobbs
So far loving 2.1 Tsepz.Hope you too

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Absolutely lovin' it Hobbs, this is exactly how the X10 should have been in the 1st place.

Posted by Hobbs
Tsepz HTC,Motorola andSamsung can count themselves lucky the X10 didnt enter the market in this state running 2.1 would have kicked their asses.

Ouch!!

Thanks Tsepz!

I hope they get it right but I get the feeling that it will take Mozilla quite a bit of time. Looks like SE has done a pretty good job on the update seeing that you and Hobbs are pleased. I'd rather they take this long to update for a stable OS. Now the question is will Froyo come to the X10 family of phones? I sure hope it does.

It will take quite a bit of time for sure, it needs a lot of work ,it will be worth the wait though, it has potential.
I doubt the X10 Family will get Froyo,i think only the X10 will.
SE must just do the OS itself though, like HTC does. It will come out quicker then.

Tsepz Typefresh working fine on 2.1 if you interested in changing your font.I had to get rid of that dreaded DroidSans and back to my clean, crisp neat Tahoma.Looks good.

Another update to Firefox Beta was released yesterday, its getting better, pages are loading faststill jerky and slow through its UI but they have said they have said that they will be adding support for Hardware Acceleration in future releases for a more fluid and faster UI, that should bring some great performance boosts all over, so its definetly getting better, this browser has alot of potential, and thanks to the name it will be a major competitor to Dolphin HD, Skyfire, and the Android Browser itself.
Hobbs
Have you tried out Dolphin Browser HD? Fantastic browser, im actualy not sure of which i prefer between the built-in browser and Dolphin HD, they are similar in functionality, Dolphin is actualy based on the built-in browser but its faster and with a tweaked UI.

Posted by Hobbs
Happy Birthday SAMD! Hiepiep (???) ...Hooray! lol

Tsepz
Yep,Im switching between Dolphin and default as well. Its a good browser.

Posted by Hobbs
Oh my goodness Wangs.Totally forgot. Its a action packed Southern hemisphere vs Northern hemisphere rugby weekend. If you gonna watch, enjoy.

Posted by Dups!
Thanks for the update on the browser Tsepz_GP!
I'm glad you think the mobile version has potential cause I'm likely to use it as my main browser when I upgrade. Hardware acceleration is the way forward- just look at how the Iphone runs to see how important it is.

HAPPY 6TH BIRTHDAY SAMD!

Taken from GSMArena:

'Google's Android platform turns 3, Gingerbread due on 11 November

The Android platform was born on this day three years ago, on 5 November 2007, and the first device based on the platform was introduced nearly one year later, on 22 October when the T-Mobile G1 saw daylight for the first time.

However, the story began back in 2005 when Google acquired the Android Inc. Then, it was only a matter of time for the Android platform to show up. Now, a few years later, this is one of the fastest developing operating systems.

The Android OS hasn't stop improving since Day One. Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo… Those are all sweets but at the same time these are the names of the numerous Android updates released over the years. And rumor is the next one, Android 2.3 a.k.a. Gingerbread, is about to be launched in a week, on 11 November.

As for the applications compatible with the Android platform, currently, there are more than 100 000 apps over at the Android Market and their number is continuing growing and growing.

Currently, we have 141 Android handset in our database and those are not all phones available worldwide as as we don't list all CDMA handsets.'

Yeah Wangs.Android is exploding.Gingerbread unfortunitely (I could be wrong) needs 512MB of RAM (think this X10 only has 384MB) so the chances of us getting that on our X10's are slim. But like I said,I could be wrong.
Im pretty pleased with my Eclair 2.1 on the X10.The boys at XDA seem to be slooowly progressing on working on cracking the X10's bootloader and hopefully once they've done it Tsepz and I can progress onto Fro-yo before SE comes to the party.
Froyo for us X10 users is the big one.I don't think we are looking beyond that.

I just used Barnacle Wifi Tether on the X10 with my little Acer Aspire and it is lightning fast.Very impressed with it.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
I'll give both those a try Hobbs, thanks a lot.
Have you tried LauncherPro? Ive dumped ADW Launcher for it, its a bit more customizable but also a lot better performance wise than ADW, it doesnt seem to be clashing with anything.
I hope we do get Froyo, Rikard at the SE Product Blog did say the 2.1x update for the UXP UI may also be a OS update to 2.2, we'll have to wait and see, 2.1.has brought out alot in the X10 but Froyo with its JIT Compiler is what will completely unleash it, this phone still has alot in it, i did the Quadrant benchmark now on 2.1 and got 550, it's higher than the NexusOne and Desire on 2.1, clearly SE's engineers know how to get the best out the Snapdragon CPU.

You can add JIT to your X10 right now! I managed to go from 549 to 700+ in Quadrant ......

BUT......

I have noticed that where I used to lose 0-1% battery overnight in Airplane mode, I now lose 22% overnight.
I have switched it off for now but would like to see it fixed so that we can use it again.

Thanks Rob.Will check out those links. That battery drain seems pretty excessive though.Doesn't seem worth it.22% drain in Airplane Mode.Ouch! Something wrong there me thinks.

I have made some tweaks to the JIT scripts and am giving it another go. I will let you know my findings in the morning....

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Thats great news Rob, sucks it gobbles battery though, im sure the phone gets super warm to? The X10 and it seems most other Snapdragon droids tend to get realy warm at times.

Posted by Rob123
I lost exactly 22% in Airplane mode again so I am going to reflash and try again. Will try Nordic instead of Global this time just for a change......

It really only seems to be Airplane mode related as far as I can see. I will see if anyone else has picked this up too. Let me know if you read anything about it. Thanks.

Posted by Rob123
Has anyone updated with the local version of 2.1 (without going to Nordic or Global) yet? Is it out yet?

I see that version 3 of the optimiser is on its way so I will give that a go and let you know how it goes.

Posted by Hobbs
Nah Rob.I went Nordic and then updated.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Nordic here to. Strange it loses so much batt in Offline, maybe its apps that want to access the net and keep sending the request over and over again to connect?

Posted by Rob123
I found the problem : Location: -Use Wireless Network.

If this is checked then the battery will drain fast (but maybe only in Airplane mode - can't tell...)
I will stick with JIT until we can get Froyo on our handsets, and it is stable.

I see that there is already a video of 2.2 running on an X10, so I think we are close to custom rom time!!!!!!
