Remember those cars I posted a while back at one of my clients.Popped in there today to do some touch-ups and took a peek inside the garage. The Boxster is gone replaced by this Porsche.I think its a Carrera

Posted by amawanqa
S'true that Hobbster. CT and most of the Western Cape is beautiful indeed.

Dang, that guy's garage and vehicles...looks like you could just about eat off those massive white tiles, LOL.

@ lelando;
Welcome to the SA thread.

Ya, the better half and I were married at Ganzekraal resort near you.
Yeah I dig the west coast.
The snoek we bought direct from the back of the fishermen's vehicles at Yzerfontein was just as lekker.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Yep,still loving it Hobbs, patiently waiting for 2.1 now ,i downloaded a high quality N8 review by Rafe at All About Symbian a week or so ago and while watching i was more impressed by my X10s display quality than the phone that was being displayed on it lol, i can see you're loving yours by looking at your X10 blog.

Posted by Hobbs
Yep Tsepz.Did you check out Meridian and Zimli on the blog. Those are two damn hot media players.

Hey y'all!

Was at Vodashop today and almost walked out with the X10. Tha damn phone is still a looker and tempting but I had to hold back.

Looks like I will wait till Q1 next year to see what interesting device is coming.

Posted by Hobbs
Well done Dups for restraining yourself.I walked passed it while looking for a phone for someone else and was in there a week later walking out with it.Even though I knew it had a older OS and no multi touch it didnt matter. It just looked so appealing to me and to Tsepz as well with the way things went. Its a lovely phone.

Just been playing around on a Blackberry Curve 8520.Its very basic but shit its the cutest thing.I love the small size and tiny QWERTY keyboard. If I wanted a phone phone just for calls, sms's,emails and some simple web browsing (no 3G just EDGE) I'd get the 8520.

Ya Hobbs, the Blackberries offer nothing interesting other than their call, text, email and occassional web surfing unless you know little in the way of smartphones.

My 9700 is really no different from the Curve and I got bored of it rather too quickly. I quite like its looks though.

Anyway, I noticed the Sony Ericsson X2 at the Vodashop branch I was at, that was the first time I saw it in SA and was surprised cause I thought since Vodafone is part of Vodacom and the former dumped the phone before its release the latter would follow suit.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Yah neh, you're strong Dups, i simply cant keep my hands off my X10, it just looks and feels so good, hope i feel the same way a year from now
Updated the 3GS and installed Opera Mini, so far so good, my poor mother had to live with a buggy phone for a while as 4.0 was quite buggy, phone would freeze after a call or reboot sometimes, 4.1 seems to have corrected that, and she realy likes Opera Mini, alot faster than Mobile Safari, signal still sucks though compared the X10.
Dups, did you hear about the Ferrari Italia recall? Apparently a few have randomly burst into flames while being driven due to some design errors in the wheel arch, check here: http://topgear.com/uk/car-news/ferrari-458-italia-recall 1st time i hear about a supercar recall

Posted by Dups!
Damn!

For such expensive supercars to burst in flames is scary and to an extent dissappointing.

I once read an article on Top Gear's site about a Ferrari that caught fire inexplicably but dismissed as an accident. Now we know there are serious underlying problems.

hi all, it's been some time since i have txt in hear.

might not be my place to ask but which one will you guys choose.
1. samsung i9000 galaxy or
2. samsung s8500 wave ?

i've read all the specs and still i can't make up my mind. i just wish that the wave had an android os and not bada.

ahwel for some or another reason i'm falling for the wave.

anyways thanks and take care.

Posted by Hobbs
Nada to Bada, so the Galaxy it is for me

Posted by amawanqa
The fact that Bada is 'limited' to Samsung makes me feel that it may not gain the kind of universal foothold to survive the smartphone platform arena for years on end...but in the same breath (or post), I read this earlier today:

http://www.gsmarena.com/samsu[....]ed_by_wave_users-news-1931.php

I'm with the Hobbster with this one; I'll er.. 'wave' the latter Samsung offering goodbye.

Looks cool Wangs except for that QWERTY.Im not into QWERTY keyboards at the moment.

Tsepz Just updated to R2BA026 just because my phone kept on telling me about an update is available. Now when Eclair does finally come I will know that the update SEUS or PC Companion are talking about is the big one.

Posted by Hobbs
Tsepz Wrong.Ive now got the latest software installed and its still telling me New version available. Its ridiculous. So when Eclair does come how the hell are we going to know its the big one when you got this annoying flipping Update notification when youve got the latest.

Posted by Hobbs
F this s@it!!! Tsepz.
Got 026 and did the 1 click root thing. Now my Typefresh doesnt work so changing fonts is a no go.I get a Error remounting error.Could not remount /system.Applies font but doesnt ask for reboot.Did some googling and saw a few people with 026 who did the 1 click rooting method all getting the same error.

Posted by Hobbs
Ok got it working.I think. waiting for reboot.holding thumbs.yes yes yes its working again.Busybox.Uninstalled it and restored it using Titanium and the reboot option mysteriously came back again.Smartphones, flipping drives you nuts.

LOL! Wanqs, sweet paint job,and the Porsche rims just make it look even more realistic
LMAO Hobbs, the joys of owning a smartphone lol, glad you were able to sort it all out, hows 026 so far for you?
Eish, Wanqs, im disappointed at those 3 new Nokias, apparently all 3 lack autofocus despite rocking 8mp units,im not sure how true that is though, give it a few days til the dust settles and all the info is clear. That E7 has a huge 4inch like the X10,but with just 640x360 res, and has a tiny 1200mAh battery, and again an old ARM11 CPU only saved by the GPU being good, Nokia realy are slacking, they put awesome features like USB-OTG and HDMI that you wont use daily and then they go el cheapo on the ones that matter like the screen res, and battery, and to make it worse charge over 495euro before tax, pure madness.

Tsepz Its seems way nippier than 023 for me.Will check out how the wifi works tomorrow at work.Installed this crazy Proggy font that a developer created for programmers. Its tiny and looks super cool on this 4 inch screen. Will post a screenshot tomorrow.Me and my fonts. Its hilarious.News from Russia.Eclair is closer than we think.Just read on Twitter.Cannot wait for my 16 million colours and to try out the 720i video recording. Its gonna be super cool.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Thats great news Hobbs! What are we looking at? like tomorrow?,this coming weekend? Im realy excited now, im looking forward to the UI and browser improvements, and yep HD recording.

Posted by Hobbs
im just hoping us here in South Africa with Vodacom dont get a 2-3 week delay with the rollout which is ysually the case. That would be very painful.

Wangs How did the back of that vechicle look? Or was it only the sides?

@ tsepz n' other Gautengers out there, check this out, taken from The Register today :

'South African police hunt Twittering speedcam spy'

Posted in Mobile, 16th September 2010 11:35 GMT

Police in Johannesburg are investigating a man who's been using Twitter to warn motorists about speed traps and other police activity.

PigSpotter, as he calls himself, has now agreed to stop tweeting the location of road blocks but vowed to continue posting speed trap information. He also posts traffic congestion reports, and info about out of action traffic lights and accidents.

Police spokesman Wayne Minnaar told News24 that PigSpotter, or Cliff, was definitely acting illegally. He said: "He will be arrested even if he stops tweeting now. He can be charged with obstructing or defeating justice."

Cliff's Twitter account now has 10,500 followers

PigSpotter told a talk radio station that his name was meant as a joke and that speed traps were supposed to be visible, so they could not be considered secret. He agreed to stop tweeting after six o'clock and stop revealing the location of road blocks.

He said his main beef with the police was hidden speed traps and corrupt police demanding bribes. The station offered him a weekly spot to discuss police corruption.

The police claim they can nick him for obstruction of justice and that they're on his trail.

The relevant page - but be warned, it includes a picture of a lady in her undercrackers - is here:

Thanks a lot Hobbs!
LMAO!!! Wanqs, i remember my aunt mentioning him a few weeks ago, he had tweeted about a roadblock on wiliam nicol so she told me to avoid it on the way to her place, didnt pay much attention to it lol, had no idea he was that big. What a legend

Posted by Hobbs
Wangs
Been following Gareth Cliff on Twitter,he's a 5FM radio DJ but you already knew that lol PigSpotter is one of his followers. After reading that article I think the pigs have some valid points but hey it works both ways in this country with corruption so rife.Lets hope PigSpotter isnt caught by the pigs and put in a pen.lol

Tsepz
He posted more screenshots. So far its looking good.Love the new background.

While I agre and share his anger and frustrations on corrupt police officers I do not condone his actions, in fact, I find them dangerous and wrong!

There are a lot of reckless drivers that he is helping here. Speeding and reckless driving are killing innocent people on our roads and we don't need this sort of behaviour from citizens and it should not be encouraged.

Posted by Hobbs
Dups They had a segment on 3Talk with Jolene about Pigspotter. They spoke to Cliff aka Pispotter and he sounds genuinely sorry and remorseful for his wrongdoings. They also spoke to the Traffic Chief and that guy wont budge and wants this to go to trial. The pig, bacon ect reference were not taken lightly on top of all the other things you mentioned.Lets hope they come to a diplomatic solution because the guy doesnt sound like he needs to go through the criminal justice system. It started off as fun thing and he just got carried away the more popular he got.Its understandable. The web is a crazy place for an unsettled ego.The man now has like 13000 followers and I suppose that number is going to just increase with him now getting all this attention. He sounds generally scared so who knows how much longer he will be around.

Posted by Dups!
If he is sorry and repentant then I think a light sentence like a fine would do.

Good ponits on the web and ego.
