Nice i just hope they can slow down after FroYo, bring out Gingerbread some time next year lol,and just do updates to FroYo, nothing worse than an OS being updated too slow or too quickly. Look at iOS, they have a good pace, everything is consistant. As much as im loving Android i think it still has a bit to learn from iOS.

Posted by Hobbs
Ja Tsepz. They are getting a bit hasty with all these updates.Makes your head spin.
By the way has a firmware update become available to you yet?

Not that i know of Hobbs, im sitting on 60mb of bundle on my phone sim,and nothing left in my laptop sim woza Sunday! Its extremely difficult to be frugal on Android, soon as i get my 2GB on my laptop i'll check for updates, and will attempt the updated root method.

Posted by Hobbs
Ive still got loads of megabytes left to carry over.Any huge downloads I do at work over wifi.Let me know how it goes when you try the updated rooting process, that is if your firmware upgrade isnt available. Are you still going to root anyhow?
How much are loving this phone? Im loving it soooooo much.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Yep,i'll root if the update is not available,if it is then i doubt i'll root, but im realy not happy with Voda, they are always late with updates on all phones, so i think i will eventualy root rather than just debrand.
Im absolutely LOVING IT, the openess of Android, the design of the phone, the features etc...its all just perfect, its my 1st ever high-end device, glad i chose it. and to think that over 2months ago i was not even the least bit interested in it,lol.

Have you tried the PS1 Emulator, PSX4Droid? Just installed it,and been browsing through the ROMs at DopeRoms, basically EVERY ps1 game ever made is sitting there waiting to be downloaded and playd on our droids, found some old favs like GTA2, Syphon Filter, Spyro, Medi Evil, Crash Bandicoot, Tekken, Driver etc...they are huge though, at between 98-500mb lol. Think il get one or two each month, already got Driver just need to get it running now.
Let me know if you want a link to it.

Posted by Hobbs
Tsepz Yep.give me the link. Thanks bud. Will check it out.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Heres the Psx4droid app: http://www.speedyshare.com/files/23528083/com.zodttd.psx
and heres the BIOS file you load into it after installing and opening it: http://www.speedyshare.com/files/23528129/SCPH1001.BIN
After that hit the menu button and click on Search ROM ,it will show Google results of ROM sites,id suggest going into the one called DopeROMs. Instructions of how to get the ROMs working are in the Help link in the Menu of the app.

It was the current season, season 15. I think episode 5...ah Top Gear, I can never get enough of this 'informative' car programme.
Good times, I can't wait for it either. I'm afraid I might not be so welcoming to the price though
Haha,i'm sure everyone would know if Drizzy decides to pitch...

@ Hobbster:

I only really know Inbetween Days and that evergreen song Close To Me, off that album. Methinks I ought to give the entire album a listen as well some time. Sigh, 1985..

Greetings from Cape Town, y'all! A bit of a wet intro to the Mother City but it's all cleared up now. Getting the P1i Vodacom WAP/MMS/internet settings via the usual *111# route was pretty much the first thing done after meeting up with the in-laws and driving to Melkbosstrand. Hey Hobbster, keep me informed again if there's more breakin news/drama around these parts again, like there was 2 years ago with those stranded chokka/fishing boats getting washed up, LOL.

Also got to visit Kirstenbosch and take the cable car up Table Mountain during the week. @ Jojo: Maaaaaaaaaggggaaandang Gabi! Kumusta? You're missed around these parts, mate. :-)

Just got back from visiting parts of the west coast. Love the simplicity of the places, particularly after the hussle and bussle of working in London etc. Just a pity the Atlantic is a lot colder than the Indian Ocean. Thanks, Mozambique Current.

Back to phone stuff, the Xperia Mini is about to be blinged:

http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_[....]go_pink_and_gold-news-1869.php

Also in the news, taken from The Register today:

'Free Android antivirus clocks up 2.5m downloads

Update Downloads of a free anti-virus app for Android devices reached the 2.5 million milestone last week.

DroidSecurity's ad-supported antivirus free app has become among the 50 most popular downloads on the Android marketplace despite a paucity of malware threats that affect the platform. The first SMS Trojan for Android only appeared on Tuesday and was limited to just a few victims in Russia.

Dror Shalev, CTO and co-founder of DroidSecurity, told El Reg that its cloud-based product included just 200 signatures, mostly addressing spyware and phishing threats. The technology also offers anti-text message spam filtering capabilities.

Strong demand for its software is been driven by Windows users bringing their security concerns over onto a new platform rather than inherent risks, it would seem. The vast majority (99 per cent) of antivirus free customers are running Android devices that are not rooted, allowing users to install applications or services of their choice outside the set menu offered by operator.

iPhone users often jailbreak their phones to run applications outside of those approved by Apple. Rooting an Android, a similar process to jailbreaking for the iPhone, is far less common in the Android handset market and not necessary if a user simply wants to run third-party apps.

A run of iPhone worms only capable of infecting jail-broken iPhones appeared last year. However, Shalev doesn't expect to see this problem repeated with Android because the rooting process on Droid-running handsets, for example, does not involve opening the SSH backdoor with a default password exploited by the Doh worm. Instead, further SMS Trojans and spyware are the main threat for Android users to consider, according to Shalev.

DroidSecurity makes its money from selling ads on its free products and a premium ad-free version, which is recruiting around 2,000 additional customers a month. For June 2010 (the most recent figures available), DroidSecurity reports more than 500,000 fresh downloads of its free antivirus app.

The Israeli start-up wants to develop a corporate version of the software with centralised management features. The firm, which has been developing Android security software for two years, is hoping the more widespread availability of Android in a greater range of devices - including notebooks and appliances as well as smartphones - will help power its growth.

It is not interested in developing security software for other mobile platforms. "We're betting on the platform," Shalev said. "Android will replace Windows."

Symantec and F-Secure have already released Android security software packages, with Kaspersky due to enter the fray next year. Shalev was unconcerned about this increased competition from more established rivals.'

Gola
woah,have no idea
Wanqs
Glad to hear/read youre enjoying your holidays in SA
My word, Android is just everywhere, to think that just a year ago it wasnt even being taken seriously. Interesting that people are downloading anti-virus sw, the average user with an Android would be perfectly fine using Android Market,an above average user will know not to download from dodgy sites and if they do get a virus they probably deserved it, on rooted phones any app that tries to gain access to things Google dont want it to has to go through Superuser Permissions and you the user have the option to Allow or Deny access, so its not that simple for a virus to gain access.
Wanqs
Are you not tempted to replace the P1 with an Android? must say though most have crap cameras.

Posted by amawanqa
@ Tsepz: Ya I am contemplating on buying a new smartphone by the end of the year, and it will be either an Android or Symbian handset. But yes, the camera's performance will indeed be the deciding factor. The fact that it'll be PAYG will also limit me to a certain extent. I don't like to be locked into contracts and with PAYG rates being so cheap with certain 'virtual' networks here, I'll happily pay for a new smartphone in cash. The 5800 has amazed me. It's still the same price on PAYG as it was at launch. In this day and age that says a lot for the handset's longevity and popularity. I don't think I'll get one though, at this stage. We'll see what's out by December. The P1i is starting to show its age but it'll hold out until then. :)
