I just bought my data bundle this morning from Vodacom and I see that they have increased the 1GB to 1,2GB.(R289.00)
Not very generous ol' Vodacom.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
LOL Hobbs
Yep,just checked mine and its showing 1.2GB as well, they are doing that whole special they did last year, i wonder if its permanent this time? Apparently data speeds should be faster to as of today .

Posted by Dups!
Ya, me three got 1.2GB. Stingy VC!!! Could've made it 1.5 at least.

So, we now have a new pay tv provider. I wonder how their programming looks like cause I doubt there was much left for them after Multichoice scooped a lot of the programmes. Their subscription is cheap though.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
Just bought another bundle but for my prepaid sim (N81), 75mb for R88 and have got 110mb, doesnt seem bad, what do you guys think?
But agree with you Dups, 1.5GB ATLEAST on the 1GB Bundle would've been good.
How about MTN's R50 a day unlimited data plan? Although apparently if you exceed 150mb in a day your data speed will be cutdown substantialy for that day, it works out to around R1500 per month, seems like a good deal for those of us who do a lot of internet surfing and moderate downloading, any MTN users here on it?

Posted by Hobbs
I think 2GB's would have been more to my liking. It is almost R300 we are paying.

Sigh, anyone got 10 mill lying around for the last commercially available version of this beast?:

Taken from The Register:

'World smartphone sales: Apple closes on RIM...
...and becomes US' leading phone maker

Apple has narrowed the gap between the iPhone and Research in Motion's BlackBerry, heating up the battle to be the world's second biggest seller of smartphones.

According to market watcher Strategy Analytics, Apple accounted for 16.4 per cent of world smartphone shipments in Q1 2010 - just 3.3 percentage points behind RIM.

Apple's Q1 tally is two points up on the 14.4 per cent share it scored for 2009 as a whole. RIM's share remained static, at 19.7 per cent. Year on year, it was effectively static too: falling a fraction of a percentage point from the 20.3 per cent share it achieved in Q1 2009.

Apple, on the other hand, saw its share jump from 10.6 per cent in the same timeframe, SA's numbers show.

Neither is yet able to challenge the mighty Nokia, which recorded a Q1 2010 share of 40 per cent, according to SA, up from 38.2 per cent in Q1 2009 and 38.8 per cent for 2009 as a whole.

The gains made by Apple and Nokia came at the expense of the 'others' category, which saw its share fall from 30.9 per cent in Q1 2009 to 23.8 per cent in Q1 2010.

Apple shifted 8.8m iPhones during the quarter. That now makes it the US' biggest phone manufacturer, Motorola having just announced that it sold 8.5m handsets - of all kinds - during the three-month period. As SA's numbers show, Apple is still behind RIM, but the BlackBerry maker is Canadian, don't forget.

During Q1, overall smartphone shipments hit 53.7m units worldwide, up almost 50 per cent on Q1 2009's total, 35.9m.'

Err... 10 million?

As much as I love Porsche I'd get a Rolls-royce Ghost and a Range Rover and still have some spare cash out of that 10 million. That is a lot of moola there!

That Porsche Panamera is fugly, I felt that way the first time I saw it and it gets uglier every time I see it.

I saw the BMW's competition to the Mercedes CLS on Ignition yesterday and I love it, it looks the part and as usual it will drive like a Bimmer.

Ya Dups, 'strue, no BS according to the one salesman there. Apparently it was bought by a high-profile BEE businessman as an investment, with the intention to resell it later (i.e. now) as it is the last one of its kind up for sale anywhere. There were only 1270 ever produced between 2005 and 2006:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_Carrera_GT
Carbon fibre everywhere. Even carbon ceramic brake discs etc. Still not driven yet.
Still, when the average performance Porsche in there is around the 1.2 mill mark (911 Cabriolet is just over 2 mill, etc), that kinda makes it hard to swallow. Maybe if you're around that flagship store in Witkoppen sometime, you could perhaps haggle a better price for it...

Eish, I'd have about 8 of the most exotic superbikes out there for about a mill in total, an X6M, Bentley Continental GT (or Aston Martin DB9), a mansion of note and enough to live pretty comfortably with the rest..

Er.. check this out; heresy, I tell ye:

I can see the sales person take one look at my old X5 and ask can you even afford to buy this Porsche at R2 million?

Let me win a R91 million like that lucky Cape Town couple in the Powerball then I will arrogantly walk in there and say, 'I'll give you R12.5 million for the Carrera GT and keep the R500 000 as your gratuity'

And what the hell did someone do to that Bentley? Pink?!!! That is atrocious!

Taken from GSMArena today:

'RIM enters Top 5, replaces Motorola as the market recovers

Smartphones, smartphones, smartphones - it’s what the people around the world want. Can’t argue with numbers - smartphone shipments are on a rise and the market in general is bouncing back from the 2009 low caused by the poor economy.

In the first quarter of 2010, a total of 294.9 million units were shipped - a 21.7% increase over the 242.4 million units of the previous year’s initial quarter. Analysts remind us that this impressive growth is compared to an overall poor year, so a more realistic market growth for 2010 is 11%.

Motorola reported less bleak Q1 financial results compared to last year, but they lost the top US phone manufacturer to Apple, and they fallen behind on the worldwide scene as well - Motorola fell out of the Top 5 and RIM took their place, overtaking Sony Ericsson for the fourth spot.

RIM is gearing up to take an even bigger piece of the market share pie - the newly announced BlackBerry OS 6 is likely to gain more traction with the general crowd than the previous versions and there are new devices to help drive adoption even further.

Aside from smartphones, touchscreens were another sought-after feature, with touch-operated feature phones performing strongly in Europe. In North America, Android is gaining speed and quick messaging devices remained popular.

In Asia and the Pacific (sans Japan) low-cost smartphones were hot-sellers. In Latin America, both feature phones and smartphones recovered from the dip they took last year and social networking features are growing in popularity.'

Hey Dups n' Gucci;

Still referring to the insanely expensive (and super-rare) Carrera GT, this is why Russian billionaires must never bid to purchase Porsche and try to influence with typical Russian design philosophy, LOL:

Man that Carrera GT is GORGEOUS!
Forget buying it,we'll steal it,no way the cops could catch us in their lil Ford Focus's and vans the road between Bloem and Colesburg is perfect for this,LONG straights most of the way. Wonder how much the installments are on it? It must be like buying a new Ford Fiesta each month
I dig the Panamera funny enough. Something about it i find attractive, not just the performance, BUT given the choice id take a BMW 760Li over a Panamera any day, or just take a Cayenne Turbo-S with GTS bodykit, black, the black rims and that bit of gold detailing they do
Speaking of supercars,i saw 3different Aston Martins (Vantage, DB9,and DB9 Volante) in different areas, all 3 in white, today, weird
LMAO Wanqs eish thankgoodness! Although i must say,the Russians realy did a great job with the TVR brand, they used to be such boring looking cars.

LOL, yeah, but Smolensky's meddling hasn't done wonders for the TVR brand's appeal per se. There's been more drama with the company since his take-over than there is in most Australian soap operas, LOL.

LMAO, check this Ukrainian 'Pimp My Ride' creation, in the esato photo gallery and taken with a W800i. What's that scoop/taxi-looking thingy above the windscreen? Those yellow mudflaps, and check out the angle of the scoops on the valance. And what's with the 'Dragon Style'? Ooh, that just does it for me, LOL.:

LOL, yeah there's some Impreza colour cues there.

Taken from GSMArena today:

'The Sony Ericsson blog just announced that the XPERIA X10, XPERIA X10 mini and XPERIA X10 mini pro will be upgraded to Android OS 2.1 by the end of this year. What's more, the X10 will get HD video recording just as on the Vivaz. Sweeeet!

All of that is certainly good news for all XPERIA X10 series owners. It makes you wonder why didn't they go straight for Android 2.2 (a.k.a. Froyo) but even minor upgrades are welcome.

Fortunately, the original XPERIA X10 will be granted with a more major update over its mini siblings. The X10 will get HD video recording resembling that of the Symbian-powered Vivaz. Wireless home connectivity via DLNA and improved Timescape/Mediascape duo are also on the way.

Sony Ericsson admits that the Q4 updates are a bit late compared to their rivals, but we are given a promise for extended firmware support for all OS-powered devices in the future.

Adding HD video recording via firmware upgrade is certainly surprising but a similar software update was rumored recently about the HTC Desire as well. So we guess, it might just be some sort of a limitation inherent to Android.'

Just got Voda's May edition booklet. I see SE Vivaz has arrived, at R249 pay-in on Business Call/Talk120/Talk130 realy nice,if all fails il get me that.
SE X10 also here, at R289pm on Business Call (per minute billing though) but WOW that is REALY decent, could it be due to it running Android1.6? I think this is a potential next phone as well if its at that price.
HTC Legend and Desire are also available, but i dont see any contract deals on them.
With the X10 at such a good price it makes me wonder if its worth it to wait for N8? Considering X10 has a huge 4inch 854x480 display, 1500mAh battery, great design and will get Android2.1 which already has tons of apps/mods for it, hmmm the X10 just became very attractive.
Dups, are you sure you dont want the X10? It must be thee best deal on a high-end device by Voda,im gona keep an eye on it.

Posted by Dups!
Great deals indeed on those SEs!

Nah, Tsepz_GP, I am not the least bit enticed by these full touch phones.

I do, however, think the X10 is a lovely phone even if it is getting the OS upgrade late IMO.

SE really know how to screw up!!

They better announce a P1i type of Android cause I am getting tired of waiting. If nothing comes of it by August or September I will give in and get me a full touch phone. The next Meego phone is in pole position for me unless SE or Motorola come up with a great Android touchscreen phone.

Posted by Tsepz_GP
I think MOTOROLA will make what you want, their rumourd devices seem mostly to have keyboards.
Im realy entertaining the thought of owning a X10 lol, sux it wont have multitouch though, NOKIA better hurry up with that N8.

What's up *JoJo*?

@Gautengers

Tsepz, gola and Hobbs, I need your help. I'm in need of a Moto V8 battery. Where around Gauteng can I get a battery, preferably a genuine Moto battery?

Around my area I can easily buy genuine SE and Nokia batteries at Vodashop but not any other brands.

I'll be in Gauteng (Jo'burg) tomorrow.

Thanks for the help!

Dups
I'd suggest looking in Vodaworld, its in Midrand. Last i was there (about this time last year) there was a Motorola shop, not sure if its still there though, but thats the only place i can think of.

Posted by Dups!
Thanks, Tsepz!

Coincidentally I'm going to Midrand, I'll check it out.

@Dups Hope you've sorted out your battery.

@Wangs Its raining sixes for the Pakistani's. I hope they topple the Aussies.Long way still to go though.

Posted by Dups!
Yes, I have Hobbs. I didn't find it in Midrand though but in Pretoria, Menlyn. Had to drive there as I felt it was closer and I was done with my errands and had time on my side.

Thanks for asking.

Thanks largely to a handful of Souties, England win the Twenty20 World Cup!!

Posted by Hobbs
They whole heartedly deserved the trophy Wangs. All round they are a well oiled unit and a 20/20 force to be reckoned with. They played fantastic cricket. Was a great tournament to watch.Games that stuck out for me were the Sri Lankans win over India and the Aussie win over the Pakistani's.Absolutely brilliant matches.I so wish the Proteas could possess some of the fire the other teams seem to have.Pakistan come to mind. When they ignite that inner flame they BURN! We just dont seem to have that with the players we have in the team at the moment. They all just seem so sedate.Theres no hunger and thats when I personally think heads should roll.New blood need to be given a chance and some of those seniors can chase a place back in that Proteas team again if they really want it.At the moment there are too many guys who are feeling way to comfortable and need a right ol' kick in the butt.

Just went to http://www.speedtest.net/ and tested my Vodacom internet connection using my iPhone. Results arent that bad. Will try later to see if I can get better results.

Download 2.44mb/s
Upload 0.12mb/s

MP3 File (5MB) - 17 seconds
Video Clip (35mb) - 2 minutes
Movie (800mb) - 44minutes

Curious to know what everyone else is getting.Do the test and let me know, especially on some of your newer phones.

Swapped my iPhone 3g for a Lenovo Notebook + a modem today.I'm sure gonna miss that phone. Now I must start looking for another good phone.Greetings to all from Nelspruit

Did the speedtest on my 5800 got:
Download: 1.7mb/s
Upload: 0.15mb/s
Would also like to know what newer phones will do, although i guess it depends on your location, ive got very patchy 3G/HSDPA, as we are in the lower part of the valley, it drives us nuts, calls tend to be dropped especialy in the garage and kitchen, we maybe moving house later this year though, already got an offer, so hopefuly where we move to will have better signal i wana lock my phone to HSDPA but here when i do it fluctuates like crazy with every little movement.
Jmash
Hows about the nokia N900 or SE X10?

Yo Tseps
I've been eyeing the X10 for a while now,and that's a lekker phone

Ya indeed, and i wonder if it will get Android2.2 Froyo? Apparently Froyo is 450% faster on the NexusOne than Eclair
