Thanks boet. Most of the pics came out quite crappy, not helped by the crappy weather either. Oh well, we took some half-decent ones with the digital camera too.

Some cropped n' crappy P1i pics of part of the Dover ferry port (note part of the famous white cliffs in the background):

@JC08

Yes, I agree with you but I'll let it go for now.

@wanqs

I can imagine someone getting angry at the terrible food and screaming: 'I'm going to kill that bledichef!'. Then there's 'Goms', what is that even in French, and what does pain have to do with food?

That was funny seeing all that.

Ya, well, that's the beauty or intrigue...and to an extent the horror of different nations and languages.

LMAO! Gola, cant be that bad? Hope you used protection bro
Only thing that makes me miss buttons is when confirming a text, why the hell is the green tick at the top left corner? Otherwise nah, when i use my N81 it feels as though the buttons are a waist of space everything is just a touch. . .or double tap away lol. Hows the Satio so far? Are you used to the touchscreen?

@GUCCI

Any info on exactly when the 'new Symbian OS' will be unveiled and available?

Seeing that you love S60 I thought you'd be the person who is clued up.

Personally, I hope it is a radical departure from S60. I could still be tempted if it is something awsome but if it is more of S60 dressed up in different clothing I won't bother.

I am hoping for a great E series, with a QWERTY keypad of course, in a NEW OS that is revolutionary. Unless, of course, someone at Nokia wakes up and gives bussines users a maemo E series then I will definitely get that instead.

Updated my 5800 from V21.0.025 to V31.0.101 via FOTA,update was just over 9mb lol,did it with HSDPA,took like 2mins to download then 10mins maybe less to update, main changes:
RAM shot up from around 49mb at boot up to 63mb
CPU went from 369mhz to 434mhz
Phone is a lot more snappy and it looks like Maps has been updated to 3.1, still need to activate my voice guided license though. I didnt realy notice any bugs in V21 only had it for a day lol and had no reboots nor any freezes so hopefuly V31 is going to treat me well to. also got my certificate and key so hacked it with HelloOX2.02.
Gola
I think i know why your YouTube and TrackID aint working. do you also only have Vlive! as an access point? In that case go to Settings- Connectivity- Destinations- select the Internet access point- Options- Edit- Options (yes again)- Advanced Settings- go down to Proxy Server Address- erase it then click the green tick,it should change to None an Proxy port should automaticaly go to 0 (zero) and youre done,now try going to YouTube app and TrackID they should work with no problem. Had a similar prob and remembered that id tweaked the N81 like this long ago lol. I hope that helps.
Dups
I have no idea hey,lol ive just figured let NOKIA suprise me,so havent kept up with the Symbian discussions at all. Im so satisfied with the 5800xm's UI lol,i come from S60v3 remember so any eye-candy is good for me lol. Lets wait and see.

Posted by amawanqa
And so it came to pass that the great Symbian Master, Gucci O Double One Kenobi, immigrated to Planet Symbian V5, Terra-Touchsreen, and adapted well to its tactile atmosphere, LOL.

Meanwhile, back on Planet Qwerty, Darth Dups still sensed a disturbance in The Force around Planet Symbian V5, resulting in him instructing the reconnaissance droids to continue seeking the Land of the Androids for Keyboard Karma.

LOL, methinks I should submit some of my Smartphone Wars scripts to George Lucas..; it might provide him some ideas for a possible Episode 7.. or 8..

When you submit the script please remember to pay GUCCI and me our royalties.

@GUCCI

I guess we have to wait indeed. Nice to see those kinds of improvements on your 5800, SE, are you paying attention?

I'm sure any such royalties would be received in the established forum currency of E$ (Esato Dollars), which is rapidly catching up to Zim Dollars' exchange rate...or is it Zim Dollars rapidly catching up to Esato Dolllars? Not sure now...

That reminds me, 786KBR a.k.a. JK still owes me a few mill Esato Dollars after I correctly guessed that smartphone he got a year or two ago. Then he blamed goldenface for his Esato Dollars cashflow woes, LOL.

Still secondary to my wanqsta rapper ambitions though.

Taken from The Register today:

'Microsoft wants someone to turn Xbox into Xphone
Redmond recruits for mobile gaming

Microsoft is advertising for a program manager to drive the Xbox Live experience onto Windows Mobile, hoping to raise one brand with the application of another.

The advert, which was posted just before Christmas and spotted by Engadget, states that Redmond is looking for someone who can "bring Xbox LIVE enabled games to Windows Mobile" in what looks suspiciously like Nokia's pitch for the N-Gage.

The N-Gage was promoted on the back of network gaming, using the cellular connection to interact with other players, which echoes the Microsoft pitch for someone to: "focus specifically on what makes gaming experiences 'LIVE enabled' through aspects such as avatar integration, social interactions, and multi-screen experiences".

The N-Gage was supposed to have those too, and there were supposed to be games that would exist on both the phone and the PC platform. Nokia even released one but the idea never caught on.

Things have changed since then - Apple has educated punters to buy applications, and games, for mobile phones. Hardware has come a long way since the N-Gage too, but it's still hardly Xbox-compatible.

Which makes it hard not to conclude that this is about attaching a successful brand to Windows Mobile handsets in the hope of regenerating their success. The Zune just hasn't got the following necessary, and the platform owes its existing deployments to the Windows connection, so Xbox is the last big brand in the Microsoft cannon - expect it to be applied to mobile phones just as soon as Microsoft can fill the position.'

Posted by Tsepz_GP
LOL! Wanqs,if the rap career dont workout you can fall back on that. Lol eish, xphone? Lets see what happens,its going to WM i guess,i have never seen much gaming wise from WM though.
Gola
You shouldnt have to hack bro,hacking is just to allow installation of unsigned free apps and modding. Shouldnt void the warranty as a simple format removes the hack completely. Realy strange it doesnt allow connecting now, so you were able to do the Proxy address thing?
JC
Nice! after that go to App. Update, it updates Flash player to the latest FlashLite3.1 and also Ovi Contacts, Maps and NOKIA Messaging.

Taken from The Register:

'iSlate? I spy more control from Cupertino

Apple is probably going to launch some sort of tablet PC next month, probably on January the 26th, but is this a revolution in computing or a revolution in control?

The iSlate will take the iPhone concept into a decent-sized package, but more importantly for Apple it takes the security and control model into the realm of laptop computing. From there it's a small jump to the desktop and Cupertino control over everything you do on your computer.

Microsoft once suggested that Windows applications should be digitally signed, by Redmond, and that this would remove Trojans, viruses and all manner of nastiness, but the company was swiftly shouted down by customers who feared ceding control to the beast.

Since 2003 the Trusted Computing Platform has tried to do the same thing - creating hardware capable of implementing software policies to control the applications and use to which the hardware is put. In Trusted Computing the user is still free to replace the OS, but if they choose to run one that takes advantage of the Trusted Computing architecture then the hardware will limit the capabilities of unauthorised applications.

But Apple has already achieved that with the iPhone: there are no iPhone Trojans or viruses, and the only worm so far seen exploits handsets that have been hacked by their owners. Apple vets every application, through its obscure and sometimes inconsistent approval process, and who wouldn't want a desktop computer free of malware?

Along with rumours of a January 26 launch date, and orders for 10-inch screens in abundance, stories are circulating that some iPhone developers have been given a nod that if their applications are flexible about resolution then they'll run without difficulty on the iSlate*. This would certainly indicate a shared architecture.

Stick a Bluetooth keyboard on the iSlate and it's a laptop replacement, extending the manufacture-controlled model into desktop computing.

We have no idea if the iSlate will launch in January, or what kind of wiz-bang interface will wow the fans, but we are confident that applications for the iSlate will be limited to those approved by Apple, and that Apple won’t be relinquishing that control any day soon.

* Apple has registered the islate.com domain. It seems that iguide.com is also in Cupertino's possession but we're going with iSlate.'

Also taken from The Register:

'Hackers have mailed 21,000 customers of iPhoneUnlockUK to remind them the company uses unlicensed software, and that their details have been compromised.

E-mails were sent out to customers of the iPhone unlocking service, with claims that iPhoneUnlockUK is guilty of stealing software and selling it illegally. The mail goes on to recommend that customers demand their money back from the company.

iPhoneUnlockUK did have its servers hacked back in February, at which time customer details including e-mail and physical addresses were copied and the website was defaced. Since then the company has changed hosts (from Fasthosts to Rackspace) and tells us that it hasn't suffered any further breaches.

Credit card transactions are handled by a separate company so no financial details were compromised. But those e-mail addresses do provide access to the user's accounts, which are not password protected. That means a list of handset serial numbers, and when they were unlocked.

iPhoneUnlockUK provides an unlocking service for iPhones, but utilises software created by volunteers known as the iPhone Dev Team. The licence for that software prohibits commercial use, and the company admits it shouldn't have made use of it initially but that since then its attempts to work with the Dev Team have been rebuffed.

The company claims to provide a value-added service, technical support and suchlike, to those who don't want the complexity of downloading and running the software themselves. The Dev Team sees the company as parasites lining their pockets with the work of others while pretending to have developed the software themselves.

The hacker, who emphasises the Dev Team aren't involved with the mailing, has obviously got bored trying to think of something more interesting to do with the data so has mailed everyone to let them know that they spent money on something that they could have got for free.'
