@Kryptik
Nur wie Sie sagen. Kümmere mich gut ich nicht tatsächlich gehen um einzuschulen... nur die frühe Morgen! wo sind Sie in der Schule? und, in was einstuft, sind Sie?

Posted by brix25
@slslss: English please...we've got a gazillion tongues down here but English still rules. If you want to brush up on your Deutsch...send Kryptik a PM.

Posted by Kryptik
@slssls Es tut mir leid dass mein Deutsch so schlecht ist aka Sorry my German is so bad, haven't spoken it in a long time... Brix, i recall Alan Knott-Craig mentioning in an article in Vodaworld the possibility of offering laptops coupled to Vodacom contracts... Any news/info on that front?

Posted by brix25
@Kryptik: The laptop/PC/3G deal was launched just as MTN started 3G. I recall seeing only one ad for the offers...if Tahir was around he could give us some more info on his beloved Vodacom.

Posted by Kryptik
The deal that Knott-Craig sketched in Vodaworld sounded good, with sound reasoning behind it... Anything new regarding Cell Sheep and Virgin? Would be nice if they got their act together. Since my 6600 still isn't repaired i can't access any web pages to check up on what's the latest :-(

Posted by brix25
I think someone at Vodacom discovered this thread, tracked down Tahir to his shop in Jozi and gagged him for doing harm to Vodacom's brand and image with his incessant yapping.@Kryptik: On a serious note the Wireless Monkey should have inside knowledge since he works in the industry.

Posted by celltech
lol @Brix, maybe he was abducted by Virgin..........

Posted by brix25
Was @ the Oriental Plaza in Fordsburg and saw someone who I thought would fit a description of Tahir.

Posted by Kryptik
So does that make our missing friend a Virgin as well?

Posted by sIssIs
@Brix.... haven't you also been talking in another language?? so
@Kryptik: nein! es ist fein, sauge ich auf Deutsch. Ach reden brix Sie xhosa oder eine andere Sprache auch!
And kryptik just go to the Vodacom site, there they have the deals and information in the 3G area.

pmpl @ sauge!!! Last time i heard that word it was part of a proposition by a very inebriated German tourist to a very amused barlady at the German Club here in P.E. Visited some cellular shops 2day, discovered that most salespeople are beyond clueless when it comes to questions about wap, etc wrt their stock-in-trade.

@ sIssIs,
If anything, I initiated a little Xhosa dialogue; not Brix's fault as such. It was great to chat in isiXhosa after such a long time, just as it must be great for you to communicate in German etc.
I have not done this more than a few times, because although it was the odd sentence or two, I deemed it a bit rude of me to do so, when not everyone understood. Not fair to ostracise anyone with language barriers on such a SA community-orientated forum.
I have thus refrained from doing so again.
Perhaps the fact that your one entire post was in German was a bit over-the-top/too much.
Take this as constructive criticsm, in the best interests of all who share and post on this forum.

Hear hear, amawanqa! I was dying to try out my rudimentary Greek hehehehehe. All packed up for your visit yet, boet? I've been spending much time reading other threads, noticed that our English brethren really have an astounding variety of mobiles to choose from! If wishes were horses...

Posted by sIssIs
I'm not mad. never. and I didn't mind when you were talking isiXhosa. Oh just for the records... I'm not german(maybe from generations back) and it's not actually one of my languages. I can only speak it partially. So sorry. Again just btw... the people in here that can understand afrikaans, can understand german a little.
I did reply only in german, but that was because Kryptik asked me stuff in german... so... I was a "good" person in answering him back in deutsch. Don't worrrrrry.....

If MTN 3G is that good... why doesn't it even has coverage in Stellenbosch and Somerset-West. [Don't mind about this, I just didn't know what to reply]

Posted by Kryptik
No coverage in Somerset-West? That explains why a friend of mine recently could get no joy using that link which i forwarded to him whilst he was holidaying there... I thought maybe it was because he's a bit technologically-disadvantaged... ;o)

Posted by amawanqa
@ Kryptik,
I haven't even started packing yet...work has been quite chaotic;lots of loose ends to tie up before I fly on Sunday! At least the usual obligatory souvenirs have been purchased.

The w800i is expected to hit the shelves here in less than 2 weeks. Hopefully the Wireless Monkey will provide us with an indepth review of the 'walkman-mobile' in the very near future...

My wife's colleague recently returned from quite an extended London sojourn... She was flabbergasted to discover the Dark Continent had wap-enabled mobiles... Whilst comparing her Samsung E600 to Zan's E300 she was most suprised to discover that Zan had email, Google, etc on hers as well... Duhhh ;o) :o)

maybe tahir changed his name...

Posted by Kryptik
Anybody know how to unscramble anagrams? Try deciphering TALL HAIRY. Also saw this topic http://wap.esato.com/board/wap.php?topic=30107 Until i have my 6600 back i'm unable to check whether it works here as well...

Posted by JK
Its TAHIR ALLY.... and maybe u him...!!

Posted by Kryptik
Yeah right... And the Pope is Jewish, and our taxes are being reduced by 75% for the next 5 fiscal years to stimulate growth in the economy, and all banks are doing away with bank charges with immediate effect! Oh, and if you make me President, a free W800 for every Esato S.African ;o)

Posted by JK
Very defensive reply...???

Posted by Kryptik
Not defensive, humorous!!! Anyway, does anybody perhaps know what Vodacom and MTN's 5digit codes are? I've been trying an app that requires a network code...

Posted by Rhino8
I dont want a w800 or whatever. Not got 3G.

Posted by brix25
Haven't been able to post these past couple of days due to a host of factors.Have you guys been following the start of an investigation into cellphone networks for their excessive chargers by Icasa which kicked off this week? A new entrant like Cell C could've started off a price war on calls but instead they've merely followed the other two networks. There was a good article in yesterdays Business Report about the issue and how we're being robbed in broad daylight by the mobile networks.

Posted by Kryptik
I've been comparing prices charged by foreign networks and yep, ours do seem exorbitant, to say the least. There was a brief mention of the investigation on SAfm, hoping to hear more, maybe via 702 or online news reports. About time Joe Public became aware of matters...

Posted by brix25
Friends in the US say sms'ing is unpopular there because call chargers are so low. Another silly comparison in same US you can get satellite tv with 100 for around $50 a month...guess how much DStv is charging for 50 channels of mostly repeats?

Posted by Kryptik
And i thought circumcision was a rip-off! On some US mobile networks fixed internet cost is $20. Per year!!! For unlimited access, downloads, etc. In the UK, a friend was telling me he pays Ł4 per month for unlimited access, etc.

Posted by amawanqa
For what it's worth, the Sky dstv Family Package costs Ł19.50, which includes the usual terrestrial stuff,Sky One,all the news, cartoon and discovery channels, comedy and sitcom channels, motoring channels, soapie channels, gaming and adventure channels,Eurosport, etc. The premier movie and 3 main sport (usually exclusive football) channels etc. are obviously extra.
The UK network,T-Mobile, is gaining momentum with their 'mates rates' PAYG scheme, where you are charged only 5p a minute anytime to any of your friends who are on the same network.SMS is the same price.
The catch is having to pay a whopping 40p a minute during peak times if they are on a different network...

Posted by amawanqa
@ kryptik,
Ł4 a month for unlimited internet access? I presume that's dial-up connection, which even so, would be VERY cheap.
Broadband internet,on the other hand, is usually around Ł17 and up a month, depending on service provider, kbp/s speeds and if you have requested unlimited usage.
The common broadband modem routers used with the major ISP's here, usually Belkin or Netgear, can provide seamless broadband internet in the house via the wireless LAN for (usually)up to eight computers, off a single fixed rate account. Not that too many people have eight computers in a house, but handy for small businesses too.

YEBO GOGO.......I see people missing me.I wast posting and helping Vodacom clients on other sites like www.myadsl.co.za.Not forgetting I AM BACK

Posted by brix25
Just discovered that email recipients of my MMS's can now reply to me like a normal email... I think I'll forward gmail account to my cell number. BTW, Welcome back Tahir.

Posted by amawanqa
@ Tahir,HOW ARE YOU!(LOL!)
Welcome back, it's good to have this forums's Vodacom Viceroy back.
@ Kryptik,
My ignorance regarding current offers of the old-tech dial-up connections is apparent, I found this link for dial-up in the UK with relative ease on yahoo. Ł2.25 per month if you pay up for 12 months in advance!Don't know about download or usage limitations with this offer though; perhaps if I bothered to look for FAQ or fine-print somewhere, but it's of no significance to me. Anyway, here is the link; it may be of interest to your friend:
http://www.proxyconn.com/best1_uk.asp

Posted by Kryptik
Many thanx, mfowethu, will certainly fwd it to David. Brix, did you try that link i posted? I haven't been able to yet, would love to see if it works locally. And Tahir, wb, your presence has indeed been missed. KBR, hmmm... What sayeth thou now??

Posted by brix25
@Kryptik: Ummm which link? Next time I'm behind a PC I'll check it out. Just chatting to some Brazillian via Yamigo who's deep in the Amazon rainforest...lol.

Posted by Rhino8
Brix whats the reply address to mms?

Tahir
Welcome back. Kinda missed ya.

Posted by brix25
@Rhino8: I'll have to ask my gf for the return address next time she checks her email. Or you can test it yourself by sending an MMS to your email address.

Posted by Tahir Ally
I think replying via MMS to to email was always that

Posted by brix25
@Tahir: It wasn't always like this... I can remember when I received pictures from friends to my email address there was a message in the email that said I couldn't respond to the message.

Posted by Tahir Ally
@Brix Thats right

Posted by brix25
Oh schuks...almost six months after buying my precious and taking great care of her beautiful body I've discovered to my horror this evening that the "online" sticker is starting to peel off slowly...guess superglue should come in handy soon.

Posted by Kryptik
Brix, that link was http://www.nowmms.com Apparently it'll forward your email to your phone as an mms...

Posted by brix25
Thanks...will check it out. BTW, How many of you guys have purchased games through ExactMobile? Experienced any problems with downloads?

Posted by Rhino8
Thanks brix i cant be bothered to get airtime.

Posted by Kryptik
Once, looong ago, i paid Exactmobile for a 5210 game which still hasn't been delivered, even after fighting with their consultants... Only thing they seem to be good for is providing us with their i.p. address which is useful for logging on when all other networks are down.

Posted by brix25
@Kryptik: I'm looking at getting some Gameloft titles for my phone...I'm contemplating the legal route because the Russian sites take a while to have the latest games on.

Posted by Kryptik
@Brix Some of those GameLoft titles are excellent. My passion, however, remains ebooks, i can't seem to get enough of them ;o) I think the only game i have (had!) left on my 6600 is/was StonePilot by PdaMill... btw, check your pm

Posted by brix25
@Kryptik: Got the PM...will check it out later...can't access Gmail from my work computer.

Posted by Rhino8
I cant get on here in html light mode with my v800. Any ideas?

Posted by brix25
@Rhino: Does it give you an error message? I had no problem using the html lite feature when I had the V800.
