Only problem i got with my phone is that i got shit 3G coverage at home and thats make my battery run down super fast.

Posted by brix25
@Kryptik: heard about it but not in much detail, seems a brilliant idea and should be fairly simple to implement. @Rhino: Even the K600 has a pathetic battery life... I'm carrying two phones with because both of them constantly have to be charged. :-( And 3G does drain battery life.

Gateway borin anyways the streets r small ! West street is da busiest and very wel known street in Durban. Ushaka... Havent been der dont lyk da place. Today am gonna watch a movie for R5 at da workshop he he im cheap!

Posted by brix25
@brad: I think The Wheel has got better movies showing. One thing I've noticed though is that there aren't too many whities in the city centre. When I got to Gateway I saw realised where they'd all run off to.

Lol brix ya went at da Wheel? Hmmm.... I dont go der at al especially wit my phone dat place is bad! Glue smokin street kids r everywhere! Scary place 4 a nice dude lyk me yeah al da whites hang out at gateway, pavillion and suncoast casino

Posted by brix25
@brad: I'm adventurous, so I dob't have a problem hanging out at The Wheel which looks like a white elephant that never should've been there in the first place.

I think you get glue sniffing kids all over, just be street smart and they won't hassle you. Just noticed my K700 acting weird this morning while browing esato...when I hit the "Home" button on the forum it instead gave me a message that "downloading xhtml- file not supported by phone" what the hell? So I hit it again and it's back to normal. Phew, almost threw my precious out the window.

Posted by Kryptik
Dunno if you guys noticed it, but keeping your mobile concealed in risky places seems to help? ;o) That, and the fact that i go nowhere without my Browning 9mmS ...

Posted by brix25
@Kryptik: I'm against all forms of violence- looking at me you won't say that. And yeah, can't stand guns either. But if someone tries to take what's mine he's got an ass whopping coming.

After 24hours of almost constant use i an quite impressed with my v800. The screen rocks, except for the letter size which is a bit large.

The keypad and joypad as a bit too spacious but after getting used to it its Gr8.

Downloads via 3G is really quick thanks to good coverage.

But

Only problem seems the battery. It charges for hours and never seems to finish charging.

Overall a marvelous phone.

Posted by Kryptik
@Brix Yep, gotta agree wth you. I'm big enough to walk thru walls myself, but after a dude wth an Ithaca 12guage misfired twice towards my head years back in a botched robbery attempt i changed my view there and then. My boxing and judo background couldn't help coz the bloke was 20metres away... Never again...

Posted by brix25
@Rhino: Good to hear your satisfaction with the V800...I also encountered similiar problem when I had the phone a couple of weeks back...battery life as with the K700 is SE's weak point...also they keypad feels awkward compared to the K700 where you actually "feel" each keystroke...On the plus side I have to agree that the screen rocks-wait till you see the K600, you'll be blown away. How are u finding the Vodafone Live portal? @Kryptik: Lets all just remain calm, something which will save a lot of lives

Finally managed to convince my doctor that a phone aint just a phone. He's now switched from a brick to a SE P910i and bought himself a PDA as well, so that he has his medical tomes in digital form at his fingertips... Viva technology!

Posted by TeenInvader
I saw a trick in some other post here.

It is the bluebooth tooh trick.

This dude say he was playing around some people at the banks / public places.

He created a contact named "Buy Sony Ericsson" with no numbers.

And he sent that via bluetooth so some oak, and thy Nokia Message Tone sounded very loud.

And the poor guy did know who the hell it came from.

But now I've been trying this at Cinemas and malls it finds the fones but fails to connect.

Somebody please trying it out ! ! !

Posted by Kryptik
I know which trick you're referring to... I tried it at the mall, managed to send to a few ppl, even picked up the Kodak Photo-Developer at CNA, but it wouldn't respond to me ;ot

Posted by TeenInvader
Maybe I've been chosing the wrong fones.

I've many times.

Posted by brix25
@bongzino: It's called bluejacking...you can't connect to other phones coz they have to give permission for you to connect. Viruses also spread through unintentional bluejacking...check out the "I did something naughty today" thread for more info.

I think my 6600's been infected... Just did full format twice, still can't log onto any sites, altho the sim works fine in my other phone. Did soft and hard reset, also the 3key format, no joy. Advice, anyone?

Posted by Rhino8
@ brix

Voda live is not bad. Can get free movie trailers from there. Any other sites i can get free movie trailers

Posted by Kryptik
Damn... F-secure, Simworks show no viruses, and i def didn't have Doris installed, nor any compressed apps... Even with a formatted mmc no joy... Any ideas?

Posted by brix25
@Rhino: For a bucketload of free movie trailers check out cineman.ch/@Kryptik: This morning barely 30 minutes after landing at Jozi International a virus tried to connect to my phone via BT... I think more S60 phones are infected than is thought. Coz everywhere I go there's always an incoming item wanting to install itself onto my precious.

Posted by Kryptik
Yep, i see myself heading to Nokia's local branch in the morning for flash and upgrade... What's the world coming to....

Posted by mario2002
Did you manage to install the virus ? You must actively run the 'virus'. Use your phone's memory and not the MMC.If still does'nt want to install I can email one for you which has been tested on a 6600.Anyway the problem you are describing sounds more like a hardware failure (yes it does happen to the Nokias too) Have it tested at your local Nokia shop.I found the bluetooth on any Nokia to work just fine and I can give you full instructions on how to install the virus and infect others. :-)

Posted by Kryptik
@Mario, i think it arrived via an anonymous mms... Check your pm...

Posted by celltech
@Brix, where in JHB are you visiting....

Posted by brix25
Right now I'm staying at BnB in Observatory...close to Eastgate.

Posted by Kryptik
@Brix, last time i was in Jozi i stayed at DonSuite on Bruma Lake... Steer clear of the Lake, ppl go missing there.... never to return... this thread needs you hehehe

Posted by brix25
@Kryptik: I saw the Don Suites coming in from the airport. I'm not driving here so everything is done on foot or via taxis...doubt I'll go missing though...if I can survive grimy Durban then believe you me, Jozi is a peace of cake.

Huh, you chaps talk about places in South Africa or what. They can't be that 'dangerous' can they ? Me and my family 'wife, 3 kids and servant' are going in November on a nice SA tour. (Durban,Jhb/Pretoria,Maputo,Kruger) My father in law joked about us not using my wife's car.(I prefer my Combi with a small Venter trailer) The Camrey is nice too , but when it comes to sheer space, obviously the Caravelle wins hands down. Now is it true that blacks hijack minibuses to use them for taxis ?

Posted by brix25
@mario: No, it's not true that BLACKS hijack combi's for use a taxis (that statement sounded prejudiced). Crime happens everywhere but it happens mostly where there's a huge disparity between rich and poor. I'm also planning to go to Maputo with my girlfriend early next year from where we'll tour along the coast.

Posted by Kryptik
Maybe it's true that the vast majority of taxis are owned by our darker-hued brothers, but they are in the majority... Wrt hijackin, ho hum... Less said the better. What's the most beautiful place you guys have been to in SA? That also has excellent cellular reception?

Posted by Kryptik
The sounds of silence... Quite a beautiful song really...

Posted by amawanqa
Yeah, all quiet on the home front at the mo...
Well, I dunno about reception in various beautiful places in SA, but places along the Garden Route is where it's at for me. Absolutely love Knysna, Vic Bay close to George, etc.
Or further along the coast and well into the Eastern Province, the beaches east of my beloved eMonti, or...oh hell,so many places. We really do have a beautiful country.

Was looking around Orange's various sites around the world and checked out the Orange Botswana site.Anyone have any experience of the Orange network in Botswana?

So true, Amawanqa, it's quite breathtaking in most places along the Garden Route. Between Uniondale and Knysna lies Prince Alfred's Pass. Should one follow the gravel road for about 30km one finds a pristine waterfall.... Heaven on earth, imo. And full signal too, last time i was there

Posted by amawanqa
@ kryptik,
You're speaking my language...went over the pass 2 years ago and what an awesome view from the summit as well. Also stopped at the stream crossing along the lower gorge, surrounded by those vermilion rock faces. Carpe diem.
BTW, the Prince Alfred hotel serves up one of the BEST buffets I have ever sampled...truly pig-out deluxe! Not too shabby at all for such a unasuming 'dorpie'....
Can't remember one single iota about signal strength around there;with a beautiful wife accompanying me and the immediate natural world around us doing its 'awe and wonder' thing, wondering about how many of Vodacom's signal bars were trying to manifest themselves on the 7250's screen that I had back then in 2003 was not too high on the agenda...

Posted by Kryptik
We have a family holiday home in Haarlem that's been in the fam since the dawn of time, it seems. I don't get there as often as i'd like, but from there the pass is 15min away... Next time you're there sample the water from that mountain stream. It's free of harmful goggas, and absolutely worth the drive.

@ kryptik,
forgive me,but upon waking up this morning,it dawned (sic) on me that I was referring to the Prince ALBERT pass, nestled in the Swartberg mountain range & not the Outeniqua which separates the Garden Route's coastal towns from part of the 'binneland'.I should have remembered a tad more vividly;I got to know the Swartberge relatively well when I did my National Service JL's at Oudtshoorn's Infantry School, with the last of the intakes in '93...

Posted by mario2002
@786 KBR - thanks for your comment.Where are you from buddy ? Nice to see you are also using the venerable 7650 :-) Greetings from Jeffreys . Mario

Under my user name it says "jozi" pronounced "jawzi" thats slang for johannesburg...

Posted by mario2002
Huh, a few days ago I thought my wife how to use Instant Messeging on her cell. ( D500 ) Now she can check on me every time while I am onlie. And because my 'other family',school buddies and hobby friends are on the IM, I can't just 'switch off' :-(

Posted by Kryptik
@amawanqa, whilst in Oudtshoorn, ever get to sample the local plonk aka Vollie? I had that dubious pleasure once ;o) wrt Prince Alfred v Albert, both passes are awesome. My wife still raves about our last drive along both.

Posted by amawanqa
@ kryptik,
Can't say I have. The odd 'dorpspas' usually meant a pilgrimage 2 the Spur & a few shops 4 necessities or 2 draw money for the canteen. However,I shoulda maybe experienced the Vollie when we stayed nearby at De Hoek for the Buffalo Rally in 94 & 95...
Next time you notice the reservoirs on top of Butt Kop overlooking Oudtshoorn, you'll see the er...footpaths around them, made by countless army boots going up that infamous hill, are still very visible...

Was planning on leaving the Big Smoke 2morro but had to cancel those plans when I discovered to my horror that all plains, trains and buses to Cape Town were fully booked (schools are opening on Monday). Next time I'll plan my stays here way in advance. About 3G reception it's been good in Jozi but at times patchy, nothing worth making a song and dance over.

Posted by JK
Yip its been very congested recently... lots data usage!!!

Posted by Rhino8
Well i got gr8 3G coverage at work but its f**k slow at home. Thought its purpose to have constant speed

Posted by Kryptik
@amawanqa, i had a lekker laugh when i saw your reference to the Army. My military experience was limited to dodging patrols during the old days! Those pre-cellular days hold both good and bad memories. Thankfully we've moved on to bigger and better things.

Posted by brix25
Funny thing is when I was staying in Observatory I was told Telkom wouldn't install ADSL in the area due con artists using the phone lines to committ fraud (calling overseas). Was thinking that my 3G connection was faster than the dial-up internet I was looking to check up on flights to the Mother City. Now why can't kulula.com come up with a wap site?

Posted by Kryptik
@Brix, interesting point. I recall trying to book a show via Computicket. Seems they don't have a wapsite in S.Afr whilst the UK does. Same applies to some airlines having wapsites. Methinks we've got some catching up to do.

Posted by brix25
Instead of wap, local mobile companies have decided to go for Wireless Application Services(*120*number) which kinda sucks. Would love to have a wap site for Ster Kinekor and all the most popular service providers.

Posted by Kryptik
All of it geared towards greater profitability... Maybe in time they'll venture into the world of wap... Anybody know of local companies with wapsites?
