I certainly didn't know that about the R10/MB for Vodacom GPRS will follow it up...I think I'm calling their customer care line right now.

About Prodigits' SA thread those guys on there seriously need some excitement in their lives...seems like all the outcasts from SA society hang out there constantly saying "hello" and abusing the clipart.

@Gilani: I speak under correction...EGPRS=EDGE.

Vodacom out of bundle is still R2.00.That Please call me was sent to you know.That advert is old for R10.00 a meg.Any changes in Vodacom will be posted here by me asap.I can confirm its still R2.00 a meg

Posted by Kryptik
Isn't it ironic? I read and participate in that very same thread at Prodigits, yet have never seen one of them belittle this or other sites... Strange behaviour from outcasts...

Posted by brix25
@Kryptic: I was refering to level of discussion on that thread which is more focused on getting 5000 replies then saying anything sensible. That's my opinion coz I used to post there last year and It's really gone down IMO.

Posted by Kryptik
Sadly that's true... When it was on the Wap Forum it was interesting... These days its gone to the dogs though... Although i still pop in at Pro i hardly touch the Inter Forum any longer... Even S60 getting a bit stale

Posted by zani_003
Mtn is said to be chargin 4 3G video calls as follows :

Contract : R2/min

Prepaid: R3/min

I reckon dats too much 4 now since its only at an introductory phase!!

And wat i saw yday puzzled me

>Nokia 6680 is R5599

>Nokia 6630 is R5999

Shouldnt da 6680 cost more coz its got two cams compared to da 6630's?

Posted by JK
Maybe thats another reason voda didnt get it... its not practicle and its expensive!!

is it true mtn cant video call voda ??????!!

Posted by Rhino8
Well, i cant even mms from voda.... Says service not available. Wtf

Posted by Kryptik
Voda has been up to bollocks since the weekend... I finally got an mms thru by fiddling about with ip addiez, etc... Their service has been slacker than usual the past few days... Wonder why? Maybe Alan's on holiday again...

Posted by JK
Whos Alan???

Is it true that mtn cant video call vodacom ???????????

Posted by TeenInvader
@786KBR

Where can I get that?

Is it an online ? Or it somewhere in SA?

Posted by brix25
I've also been having problems sending multimedia messages, thought the problem was with the phone.

Posted by JK
@bong

The mem card??
Try Incredible connection... they have a couple i think scandisk, verbatim is the cheapest R400-R500... if you got money try foto cats or camera land in sandton city, for sony and panasonic they both compatible.

i also seen somewhere on ebay a 4gig mem card, not sure how true it was...

Posted by RicK700i
@ brix that was funny wen u said that Prod. SA abuse the cliparts. (roflmao) thanks Tahir Ally.

Posted by brix25
@Rick: Popped in there this morning and nothing has changed.

Posted by Kryptik
@ 786 KBR, slmz. Alan is Alan Knott-Craig, Vodacom CEO... He's got a fondness for escaping to his holiday home in MosselBay... @Brix and Rick, i kinda like (rolleyes) Think i'll pop in and use it a few times...

Well not http://txt3.com we ant our own forum. Not the silly stupid topic, but a whole forum. Hehehe

Posted by brix25
@bongzino: Like I've explained before on this thread, posts in the regional threads don't count towards your post count. This is to encourage participation it the other threads on Esato.

Posted by mario2002
I used to post to Prodigits a year or so back.I still go visit now and then.The problem is they gotten too big.A big group is much 'looser' and less 'focused' then a small one.I hope we are not going to end up the same way.Fortunately Esato is mostly a SE forum and SE has a fairly small market share/users compared to the 'big guns' out there.Unfortunately I see more and more non SE users hanging around in here.(my self included)

Posted by brix25
Even though we've grown bigger you guys have still kept the focus on service available in SA. I don't have a problem with Nokia users posting here, it's an SA mobile thread not a SonyEricsson SA thread. Would hate it if we started saying "hello" and "good night".

Posted by Kryptik
I've learnt a lot from Pro, especially the Nokia gurus. Even the S.Africans have taught me a thing or three about cellular and wap... My single biggest gripe was and remains their pathetic server. It's sluggish at best... Btw, anyone know how to set up .ogg files as a text alert?

Posted by TeenInvader
@brix25

Oh, I didn't know that.

Cool,

Posted by Kryptik
I think i'm going to lose my mind! Been searching for coupla days now for Mobipocket. Anybody know where i can download this directly to my 6600? I've Googled myself to a standstill...

Posted by brix25
@Kryptik, keep on searching mate.

Here's a panoramic picture I took last night with the V800...dunno about it claims to being 1.3mp.

Exclusive to Vodacom 3G users:Watch the entire Vodacom DBN JULY on your Vodafone Live 3G phone for FREE.NO TV LICENCE REQUIRED.It all happens on the 2nd July.

Posted by sIssIs
Brix you are such a pessimist towards Vodafones.

Oh Vodacom got another exclusive 3G mobile for the winter(or thats what they are saying in T3), the Motorola V1150. It's and upgrade to the V3 and has 2Mp cam, etc. But i don't like Moto... to bad.

In the newspaper today MTN said, another reason why they waited a bit for 3G is to get the appropriate and minimum accessible 3G mobiles... ...CRAPLoaded! umm... they only have 1 exclusive 3G mobile... the sumsung "wide view", which GSM Arena doesn't think is the preeminent 3G mobile.

agh who bothers...

I'm not a negative towards Vodafone...the hardware is still SE, Vodafone only tinkered so slightly with the software on the phone. The 1.3mp should be the same one used in the Z800.

@ Slssl Did you know MTN is Slow EVERYWHERE YOU GO...... Although MTN launch 3G recently.I dont think they did JUSTICE IN MARKETING 3G..............MTN always said they will launch edge 1st because its faster to roll out than 3G.In lots of places where MTN does not have EDGE but Vodacom has 3G coverage.MTN also has no plans to cover those places soon.It looks like customers are catching uo with MTN

Sorry Tahir, that statement didn't make sense because it wasn't substantiated...give me a link where it states that Vodacom has more 3G sites up than MTN's EDGE? EDGE is no competition for 3G but please bro get your facts right. In central Cape Town chances of me getting a Y'ello Broadband" signal is more likely then a Vodacom 3G signal which at times barely touches 2 bars on the V800 if ever it gets a signal.

Posted by sIssIs
SOrry Tahir... I also didn't cognize what you said there bro. All I said MTN lies about the reason for "Waiting for the 'better' 3G mobiles".

Just thought I'd correct bradboy courtesy MyADSL's Cara Christian.

Videocalls will be free for the first 3 months and thereafter the cost is R2.00 for postpaid and R3.00 for prepaid subscribers. Unfortunately, users will not be able as yet to make videocalls between the 3G and MTN network.

Mr Brix just visit myadsl and go to the MTN forum.MTN has no plans to cover PMB,Newcastle,Richards Bay,Krugersdorp,Empangeni and KZN South coast with Edge but Vodacom has 3G coverage in those areas.This is what MTN customer are saying on that forum and MTN BB looks like he is on holiday or cant take the heat on comparison coverage.Mr Brix if you think MTN has best broadband the best broadband coverage than you and MTN must complain to the ASA(Advertising Standard Authority) because Vodacom advertises THEY HAVE THE BEST BROADBAND SYSTEM IN SA AND WIDEST COVERAGE.I want to take this up or maybe you can write an article in the CAPE TIMES.Even the administrators of Myadsl say Vodacom are leaders in broadband........Where is the sense of having EDGE when all new 3G phones do not support EDGE and MTN data card does not support EDGE.

@Tahir: I've just read the forum and no-where does it state that MTN are not planning to launch EDGE in PMB. I think their strategy has been hit-and-miss as far rolling out EDGE. Yes, Vodacom will lead in 3G coverage because they had a 6 month headstart...but I suspect MTN is banking on corporate clients with it's newest data services, I speak under correction but they still favour MTN's Business Solutions over what Vodacom offerers...things might change with their laptop and PC package.

PS: This might make you happy Tahir, the WirelessMonkey just complained to me this evening via IM that MTN's GPRS has been as slow as a donkey this evening.

again a correction: Video Calls from MTN aren't for free for a period!
The subscribers get something like 30min of free Video Calls to use in 3 months. Still it is a few minutes of free video calling, but not totally free.

Brix.Plenty of corporates are with Vodacom and i can mention them but i might get in trouble.I dont think MTN has a huge corporate base as Vodacom.Every Major corporate is with Vodacom.I will just mention one and the number of lines they have with Vodacom.Rainbow chicken has 8000+ lines with Vodacom......Did you know MTN only has 5 data roaming partners and Vodacom has 53.Buy a MTN data product and you can only use it on 5 networks outside SA.I am sure corporates do go outside SA to do business.

Posted by brix25
Vodacom GPRS is up again...noticed it was down since this afternoon.

Posted by sIssIs
How are you?

Vodafone does it again.
MSN and Vodafone launch PC-to-mobile instant messaging. The new service will be offered in various European Countries by the end of 2005 and Spain will be one of the lead countries to launch. Service to offer real-time, seamless instant messaging conversations between PC and mobile customers, as well as the possibility to see the availability of all participants on the contact list.

Posted by brix25
@slssls: "I'm fine, thank you"

It's good that they announce the MSN link-up because like 3G which was supposed to be flawless I fear that this is just all hype and those Spaniards using the service might be slightly disappointed.

Pity the Vodafone Live portal is awesome but the 3G connection is dire at the best times.

BTW Sendo has been bought by Motorola...pity these phones never reached our shores.

Posted by amawanqa
@ brix,
I posted the info about Sendo being bought by Motorola three days ago, if you look under the 'other manufacturers' forum.
That was even before axxxr's news article about this...something that doesn't happen too often!

Looking forward to being back in the motherland for a holiday next month.
Bringing a few phones for friends and family again, namely a 3230, 6101 and the very-pink j300i for my niece. Hopefully the D600 will be out soon too. The Carl Zeiss lens-equipped N90 is expected to arrive at the carphonewarhouse in the latter part of July.
Saw the Vodafone-branded v600i for the first time today, at Phones4u. A pity about the branding, because the 2-tone anthracite/silver handset looks so damn good, IMO.

Posted by brix25
@amawanqa: If you look around this thread the Wireless Monkey posted a picture of myself with the K600 a couple of weeks ago...nice phone, pity the keypads which feels as if they're part of the phones body.

Posted by amawanqa
@ brix,
Indeed I have been looking around this thread, on a daily basis, and did notice the pics of you and the Primate Pressman etc. taken with the k600i.
Hell, try face the phone's camera more next time..LOL.

I'm impressed with what WM gets his grubby mits on.
He certainly seems to have some good (er..."better?") connections... Good on him.
