LOL! in our dreams!
Wanqa
Great pics of Tower Bridge boet!

I'd suggest the E61i if RAM is not an issue, its a shame the E71's screen is so much smaller.
Hobbs
You're going to have to deal with that when you get your XPERIA X1

Posted by Kryptik
Gucci, that's one of the phones which i've earmarked as well. The huge screen coupled with the versatility of the Symbian OS makes it really attractive. The RAM isn't too much of an issue since the only apps which i usually run simultaneously are Mobipocket, Opera 206 (you've just gotta love the multi-window feature on that baby!), NoRedClose and Taskman.

I wouldn't want to be in Thabo's shoes right now...

Not all fantastic first impressions of the N96 from amnesia...:

http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=175457

@ Kryptik:
True, but I also wonder how the impact of these moves by a divided ANC will affect the JSE, exchange rates etc...

Posted by Kryptik
Looks like we're in for some heavy political weather, Wanqa. The Deputy Prez has indicated that she'll step down when Thabo resigns, as will many other members of Cabinet. The really scary bit is that, even though JZ says he'd like Thabo to stay on until the elections, his camp seems hellbent on removing Thabz immediately. Whichever faults the man may have, he's certainly encouraged investment in the country, an area in which JZ seems to be lacking.

Regarding the N96, i know of at least two people who'll be deeply disappointed, should it transpire to be more hype than performance.

Thanks, boet.
Ya we have friends who stay within walking distance of the famous landmark, so every few weeks we drive over the bridge en route to visit them.

Hey everyone A few days (2) ago I had a msn chat with Brix He is just fine. I have informed him that the South African state president is just about to get 'fired' and I was so surprised to hear how surprised he was. The thing is - he won't go alone . Some, if not most of the members of his cabinet will 'go' too. I had to attend a urgent meeting (investor related not police) saturday afternoon and everyone is sitting put. The JSE got hurt double time. At the moment SA its costing me more then 'making'. I see the Aus $ come back down to earth over the last month or 2 and for the first time in a long time that part of the world becomes 'interesting' from my point of view. And congrats to the speaker of parliament (SA), she is 'the man' now ,well at least until Zuma takes what is 'rightfully' his.
Does anyone know how SYMSMB works? I can see and work with the cell from my wifi network. I also can connect to the net thru the wifi router from my n95. I even can see the network from my cell, but I can't access any of the computers

One sometimes comes across the most unusual licence plates and/or lettering on vehicles. I spotted these two yesterday.

Posted by amawanqa
LOL, Kryptik.
Ja nee, a well-developed sense of humour's such an important ingredient to make it through life, particularly when the current political mire is pre-occupying so many minds.
Nice ones, boet.

Like I've told several friends of the last couple of days...I'm not to sad to see the back of Mbeki...although I'm no fan of Zuma, Mbeki antogonised a whole lot of people on his way to the top. His centralist policies, in which he directly chose provincial premiers was one of his downfalls- anyone remember Ndaweni Mahlangu?

@janbobbejan: You should've followed my advice years ago and gotten out.

@kryptik: I love that number plate...was thinking of which one I'd like to have on my car but then again a personalised number plate on a plain as vanilla Toyota Tazz.

@Brix, nice to see you are visiting us I have slept less then 6hours over the weekend because of the BIG news. I had 'friends' from Europe (actually all over the world) contact me and trying to get any info relating to the matter. I made lots of phone calls too (mostly local though) I hope the phone bill won't be more then the profits And yes, I did 'listen' to you As of march last year I am 'out of SA' (financially). Now, with the uncertain political situation, I am sure more and more occasions will come for speculators (financial) Mugabe made everyone a millionaire in his country, let's see if Zuma can better that
@Everyone SymSMB 3.50 build18 - How on earth can I tell my cell (N95 8gig) what username and pass must use in order to log onto my local wifi network? And yes I did read the 'instruction manual', but the program does not offer me the possibility where it should Any ideas?

@Hob, TX for trying to help bud . Of course I have all the documentation (and read it) The thing is SymSMB does not do what is supposed to according to the manual (at least on my cell) It works just fine if connected in 'Adhoc' mode, however I don't use wifi that way (I use 'infarstructure' mode, WEP encrypted). And yes I can access the cell from my network, and I can see the networked computers on my cell, but I can't access them ! It gives a error after a long wait (network not available) It is such a pitty because SymSMB is really a usefull program. I have even changed the encryption to WPA (apparently the N95 is more 'confortable' with it). Althou it sees itself as a networked computer it can't even access itself ! I know a bit about wifi and my best bet is - it does not 'know' the username and pass to access the network and unfortunately SymSMB does not give me the oportunity to tippe it in where it should (acording to the manual).

Mario, i'd like to nominate you for the position of Minister of Symbian Affairs, seeing that the Cabinet is kinda running short on manpower right now

Posted by Janbobejan
@Krypta, nice to see, at least someone takes note of the 'bottom part' of my message. However, I am more interested in 'resolving the top'. If you think my 'signature' is offending the government Shapiro style, I will remove it at once (or twice) After all I don't want Brix to declare me 'persona nongrata'. Huh, I am posting a lot on the forum (by my standards). If I carry on like this I might even win Ama OK, that’s it – I better stop now before someone get’s injured.
P.S. One last thing - How do you like the 2010 Maskot named ZAKUMI or is it Zumaki ? ! ? !

They really ought to rethink the whole mascot charade, maybe something more in keeping with the political seesaw we're on right now.

Mario, we're in for some real fun with the way people are quitting their Cabinet posts. It kinda reminds me of the movie, The Day After Tomorrow, where thousands upon thousands of Americans were fleeing across the Rio Grande trying to get into Mexico, much the same as thousands of people are trying to cross the Limpopo into South Africa. Pretty soon we may be heading to the Limpopo ourselves

Hey Guys, long time no smell. Just poppin' in to say the I-PHONE to be released on this Friday. I work @ Vodashop and we'll be getting 40 phones. No prices or contract deals yet - still to be confirmed. They will be unlocked to any network, but only Vodacom dealers will get stock. Exciting isn't it!!!

I thought Wanqa would have already posted this: http://www.gsmarena.com/googl[....]_twoyear_contract-news-601.php here. Wow guys.the android G1 has gotten a pretty much thumbs down by the look of things.

Posted by brix25
@HOBBS: Coz it doesn't have video recording and OBEX transfer? Google have probably figured that most of phone's intended market won't be using or needing those features.

As I've grown older I've also noticed that I'm not using as much as say four or even two years ago. Kids on the other hand need to transfer pictures and tones from their friends at school and would be a necessary feature at anything marketed at 12-23 year-olds.

Posted by HOBBS
I have just downloaded 2 videos from Daily Mobile showing the G1 in action and it looks pretty impressive to me.

Posted by GUCCI.011
Ye brix is right. But i mean if a device is going to have Bluetooth it might as well support file transfer, because there will be that odd occassion when you want to bluetooth something to another phone, im guessing OBEX is not hardware dependant because at GSMArena they say this will be added later.

About the Google phone, the fact that those 2 items have been omitted does bother me. Fair enough, I don't use video that much, but the Bluetooth data transfer is damn handy when out and about.
For me it matters.
For me the fact that, by today's standards, such 2 relatively basic features are missing kinda discourages me and I'll openly admit that it'll slightly overshadow what the rest of the phone has to offer, but that's me.

The iPhone now comes to mind. I love the user interface, looks etc. I don't for one minute denounce its avante garde bits and impact that it has had.
But would I buy one? No. Cam abilities are way up on my pecking order of specs, and that'll be enough to make me look elsewhere.

The G900 now comes to mind. Great size, features and as wi-fi is lower down the pecking order for me, its omission won't bother me as much as the G-phone's two, even if wi-fi is in itself rapidly becoming a standardised feature on higher end phones.
Perhaps the lack of this feature would have the same effect on others as the G-Phone's 2 omissions has on me.
Fair enough then, but the G-Phone, like the iPhone, ain't for me.

@ Hobbster:
Shot for that, boet. I'm sure the mrs will tune in as well.

Now then, the 5800 cometh... :

Thanx man, yep atleast i have my trusty and realiable N81, like any other smartphone it freezes and restarts once in a while but for the most part its solid, it hasn't had a single serious issue.
Wanqa
True, and not to mention how embarrassing it would be having to tell your friends that your new and expensive (in SA) iPhone or G-Phone cant record videos nor send files via bluetooth, but hey the UI looks nice! by the way the G900 does have Wi-Fi, its the 1st SE to support both (b) and (g) standards as far as i know, or did you mean the G700?
Hobbs
