Been on the email to Vodacom since last week...I'm trying to get them to send me an upgrade phone to the Phillipines. Do you guys think it will be worth it since I'll be in SE Asia until mid March next year?

Here pirated software is openly sold with no fear of the law as cops generally turn a blind eye. I thought I would buy a laptop here but I was low on cash so I will either buy it in Manila or later this year when I go to Hong Kong.

Dunno about that contract phone being sent to the Philippines.. seems like a lot to risk. Even if they (Vodacom) were generous enough to use reputable couriers (which I doubt), what import duties would you be liable for there? Perhaps just hang in until you're back next March or so, if possible.

Well, since you guys spoke about the first charge earliwer, just my 2 cents...
Why the F%^$% does the dummies at the cell shops always say that you need to charge the phone for 16+ hours, BUT in the phone manual, sony gives 4hours(or until the battery is full)?
Who should you believe (i go with the manufacturer, and never had a problem)
I dont think i ever charged my HTC for more than 4 hours and my batt lasts at least 3 days with heavy use

Hey Rhino.I was told also as well 4hrs with my new Sony Ericsson P990i.Let it charge but dont wait around dude.Who the hell waits 16hrs before they play on their new phone.Oh yes,Kyle does lol. No f###ing way.My N95 is going to get a test drive as soon as it comes out the box while charging and then a new firmware update straight away if it doesnt already have it.

i looked on the net. And all the sites said u shud charge it 4 atleast 14 on the 1st charge. By doin so it opens up all the cells. The phone might say its full. But not all the cells cud be open. Well it was a long 14 hours. I just cudnt sleep. Luckily the next time ill go thru that torchure is in 2 years. Lol. I just wanted 2 make sure mx battery will be at its best. U cant blame me 4 that. Opera 8.65 seems cul. It doesnt use as much bandwith.

i agree with Hobbs. When i got my N81 i took it out the box,turned it on, let it Install the default apps, did Net Settings Manager and then went to download apps, i then put it on the charger and i used it while it charged for 8hours and its battery life is great.

To skip a line click on * and look in More Symbols, the second last symbol at the bottom (its an arrow) is what you use to skip. Yep Opera8.65 is great, i use it to browse Prodigits, My Symbian and Symbian Freak and also for downloads. How are you finding the buttons?

i turned my phone on at 8 this morning and its battery died at 5, 9 hours of use, i downloaded the ngage app, browsed the net, downloaded opera, installed apps that didnt give me a cert error, transfered 1.2 gigs of music to it, (dam that took for ever. like 2 hours) sent some movies thru i got 300mbs left on a 2 gig card. i need a bigger 1 lol, and played 3 trials for ngage, the games are expensive it says 13 dollars, isnt that like 80 bucks? i might be wrong

ok cul that worked. the buttons r ok. sometimes i cant push the top 3 buttons cause thet so close to the top slide. i keep pushing hash for a space, lmao, its gonna take awhile ti get used to that, the face of the button underneath the dpad moves. i can feel it click if i push down on the d pad, other than that its all cool.

I presume you mean between the N73 and P1i.
In macro mode, they're both pretty decent; I certainly don't think there's an outright winner between the two in this mode.
I do like the fact that I can adjust the light setting as I'm focussing on the subject matter, with the scroll wheel on the P1i, without having to go into any menus and then back out again, for example.
On default settings, and no macro mode, I still believe the N73 has the edge, in that it is far less prone to blurring in normal lighting conditions. The night mode on the N73 is also far better at picking up detail than the P1i. However, the P1i is better at most low light pics (night pic settings excluded), where I used to find that the N73 pics suffered from low light blue speckles littering the captured image in places.
I must add that I didn't have both cellphones at the same time, so what I have stated is just from my own personal findings, and thus I couldn't do a fair enough comparison between the two, i.e. same conditions etc.
WRT the N95-8Gb, only Vodafone and Orange currently stock it, unless one buys one sim-free from independent retailers here. Well it's an awesome piece of kit, as everyone knows. Haven't had a chance to play with one, though. It's gotta be touchscreen for me; it's what works for me. If Nokia brings out the much-rumoured touchscreen S60 device with similar specs, I'll be giving the
G900 a miss...
BTW, hope you get that paragliding 'chute sorted.

Don't worry about the buttons, the plastic used on them seems to be quite flexible. Im still kinda struggling to get used to the Red button when dropping a call, i always push the soft key.
The USB transfer speed is not that good, even when i transfer a 50mb RealMedia South Park episode it takes a bit long, but when doing that to my PSP it takes a few seconds.
Lol i read your reply at Prodigits in OPDA Cert request. Where have Voda branded it? At the back? What FW version do you have? V11? Do *#0000# to check.

The plastic does seem thin. The brandin is on the front. Where yours says nokia about the keys. Mind says vodafone. The nokia badge is on the left between the gaming keys and the screen. And the n81 badge is on the right of that. Its v11.0.045

@brix, the n81 is a great phone even the n76 is a good phone, there is an accesory for the w910 to add wifi, it looks like that fm tunner, with that u can have wifi

Movies on the n81 are great. The screen is so clear and crisp. The size is perfect. I put on a few dvds converted to .avi and hey play quite well. The videos are a bit choppy and the audio sometimes is synced. But thats cause of the conversion. Its even like that when playin them on the pc. I downloaded a normal random movie and it played well. Where as on the w800 it was pixelated. Im going to the kruger on sunday so it will be the perfect chance to watch a full dvd. Ill let you know

Its very quiet here today.
Since I managed to get roaming sms roaming activated on my Vodacom line life here has been much better. With my local AIS sim, I could only call and send messages to SA but in almost three weeks my loved ones back home have only managed to call me once.
Hopefully I can meet up with JoJo in the coming weeks or months depending on my schedule...maybe do an interview with him ala on the couch with scotsboyuk.
@Rhino: The poms have come to recognise that Bloem is a world class city when it comes to a particular way of playing rugby.

Just a quick heads up. My o gaming button squeks iv noticed the top of the phone is tilted 2 the right a bit. About half a mm. Hardly noticeable. The screen protector 4 the camera has started peeling off. Dam the phone is a fingerprint magnet. Special just after u hve eaten mcedee's. Today mx uncle. Aunt and cousin are comin 2 visit from australia. They landin 2day. My mom is a nervous wreck. She keeps cryin. Well we hveou seen then 4 nearly 10 years. On sunday we off 2 the krugar.
