@ Kyle:
Did you see that Robbie Maddison set a new world record for longest motorcycle jump (with a Honda CR500 motocross machine) in Oz recently? 351 feet (106.9 metres)!

I wonder what kind of elevation that launch ramp had... Had to be a pretty steep angle, i guess. 100+ metres is an awesome distance!!

Posted by amawanqa
Ya, there's a few pics of his exploit in that link; the landing ramp's quite a height too.

this new opera 4 is the best thing that ever happened to my w800

Posted by Kryptik
Which improvements does the new Opera Mini have?

Posted by JC08
@ kryptik, its faster, easier adress input almost like on pc, find in page what you want, save of pages for offline viewing and a few I cant remember from the top of my hand...

Posted by Rhino8
Cool, i need to check it out.. i am not happy with opera mini 4, so maybe 4.1 will gimme better service

Posted by Kryptik
i agree with Rhino. I've been using the modded version of Mini, but it's slow at times, whereas Mini 4 gave me better speeds, although it didn't have quite as many features.

Posted by Siosal
I have to say i tried Opera Mini 4 once and never again.

Posted by amawanqa
Hmm, methinks I'll still give the new version a try.

Have you guys seen the cricket score? (sorry Siosal )

Posted by GUCCI.011
The new Opera Mini 4.1 is good but still has some 4.0 bugs which i hate so im back to using Opera Mini3.1.2 and Safari.

Posted by Rhino8
Guesws im stuck with 3 untill i get better reviews from the guys who know (you lot) on 4

OK thanks to Tranced I have all the software to begin the hacking process.....but the UIQBlogs instructions (step by step) is a little hard to understand.Or maybe Im just blonde and very afraid to say the least.Keep one eye on the UIQ Hack thread in the UIQ Device section. Its hotting up.A bit hard to understand because this is all just theory for me at the moment but Im sure once I dig in to the practical it will all start making sense.

From uiqblog.
THE STORM IS COMING......P5

This is what USEB and UIQblog´s Michell Bak posted:

People! The storm is coming, and we’ve just beat Sony Ericsson at announcing it. We’re of course talking about the mysterious, super high-end smart phone, often referred to as ‘Paris’.

We’ve gotten our hands on the official product video of Paris, and even though we won’t be able to show you the video at this point in time (wait two weeks!), we can show you a few screen shots from the video with the most crucial parts blurred out a bit.

Paris will feature a full keyboard in known P1-style - below the screen, that is! Why? Well, Paris is a slider! It looks drop-dead-gorgeous and is set to slay, yes SLAY, other competitors on the market. It runs UIQ 3.3, and well, have a look at the picture. That pretty much says it all.

Paris will be announced before the end of May, and will be available in shops as early September! We haven’t got a price tag on this baby as of yet, but we’ll definitely be trying to sniff it up!

Let's hope 'Paris' pulls out all the stops; no juicy bits omitted here n' there.

My mom's beloved Nokia 6131 was nicked in one of the PostNet offices in EL this morning. She only put it down on the counter to pay for something and it disappeared so fast that she didn't even see who took it.
Got friends from EL coming over next month, so I'll ask them to take a new phone back for her.
The 6131 is scarce nowadays. She loves the large keypad n' screen and she's so familiar with Nokia's interface that I'll get her another product from The Dark Side.
Not sure what to get her yet; maybe a 6300 (keypad buttons aren't as big, though...) 3110 Classic (big buttons but smaller screen...) or a 7373, 6500 Slide or something similar. Or look around for another new 6131 perhaps.

Back on Opera 4, personally I find it quite stable except for very few bugs like RSS feeds occasionally disappearing. But despite this its hardly crashed while I've used it.
@wanqa: How does one keep track of all those Nokia phone models? Seriously I've stopped noticing anything from Nokia except the E and N- series.

Didn't manage to watch the cricket but its been ridiculous reading online reports...from a featherbed to a wicket seaming all over...with Indian batsmen seemingly intimidated into playing shots by Steyn and Ntini.

I hope that the bliksem who nabbed your mom's phone ends up as Mugabe's bumboy, Wanqa. Looks like Bob's not having a really good year either. Shame

These scheduled power outages really lead to some interesting moments, i must say... Earlier this evening, about 10min after the power she go bye-bye, just as it was growing dark, i was en route to my in-laws. At the traffic lights i did the same thing everybody else was doing, i.e. stop, treat the intersection as a 4way stop, then proceed with caution. Suddenly my Spider Sense started tingling... something was afoot... gingerly i crept into the intersection... only to see a bus come hurtling at the speed of light straight at me!

Okay, it wasn't exactly coming straight AT me, it shot past the front bumper with a metre to spare, probably going at 60km/h. It was priceless to see the driver's face when he realized that the lights were out! The dude slammed on the brakes, and came to a screeching rubber-shredding smoking halt, jumped out of the bus and waved his arms hither and thither, trying to apologize for his myopia. I pulled up behind him, got out and told him it was ok, no harm intended, but it was a good 5minutes before he stopped shaking and had calmed down sufficiently to proceed with his journey. Close encounters of the vehicular kind, lol

I have to commend Kryptik for his story telling skills. I was on the edge of my keyboard throughout that read.

I myself have little need for spidersenses though as, being Batman after hours, I have honed my senses to the point of instantly knowing when and where trouble will occur. Allowing me to avoid any such accidents.

As I stare out the window at my batmobile, I wonder what I would have said to the bus driver...

Being aggitated over the imaginary death of my folks at an early age I would probably have told him to wake up. But hey.. at least he stopped and apologized. More than can be said for some other drivers.

Anyway I just don't see any browser beating FireFox 2 anytime soon for me...

Oh Kryptik One is a cool ol' Cat.Ive seen a bus that was hardly moving ram a car (drivers side) and put it this way,David had to be extracted using the jaws of life.Just glad you ok Kryps and the fact that he stopped the bus and apologised is enough to let the incident pass by with out a baseball bat skull-crushing extravaganza.

Posted by Kryptik
LOL Sio, it's tough being a superhero, bro. So many missions, so little time...

Hobbs, speaking of the jaws of life, i don't know whether you ever saw that clip of some firefighting crew demonstrating how the jaws were used. They started slicing some car to bits, only to discover a few minutes later that it was not, in fact, the demo car they were supposed to be using, but some private citizen's vehicle

Posted by HOBBS
Thats hilarious Kryps.
Let me guess.
A training session by fire fighters in Bloemfontein right? lol @ Rhino
Eish!
What car was it?
Thats just plain dumb

Brix, hows the preperations going for the Phillipines?

Got my phone opened sesame.Going to send a Russian a collection of Windows XP icons I fancy to replace the default ones with and ask him to do the whole MBM Tools thing with them and then tell me where to put the god damn things and how.Quite fancy the idea of changing the web icon with the Internet Explorer icon. Will look cool. The Power DVD icon will replace my Media Player icon.Going to be so much fun.

@HOBBS: Preparations are okay, I suppose. Need to be in Bangkok on April 26 at the Asia Institute of Technology for a 3 week prep course.
Nokia SA quietly launched few products on Thursday. Apart from the Prism I don't have much detail.

We've had a much colder Spring so far, compared to the very warm conditions this time last year.

Sigh, I miss SA beaches.

lol, the closest thing i've ever seen to snow is sleet

the w960i costs R4990 at mtn or R320/pm with contract.Vodacom is still behind and seems like i'll be getting it with mtn. But look at what i just saw in this month's T3 magazine

Posted by amawanqa
@ gola:
LOL, a delightfully intellectual synopsis of the UIQ3 touchscreen input there...not. LOL.
I have no such complaints with the P1i's touchscreen input, and I doubt it would be different with the W960i.
Fair enough, the old scrollwheel allowed for greater functionality than the newer 3-way one, but ergonomics can be down to personal preferences too, and that last line just manifested the writer's obvious bias, LOL.
I'm not saying that the UI is perfect, as we know, each one has their strengths and weaknesses.
Best thing is to try and get to fiddle with a live one at MTN to see if it works for you, and take it from there.

He must have been testing a Vodafone branded W960. When i tried the W960 i found its Touchscreen response to be faster than the P1, and its UI in general was faster than my old N80, their CPUs are running at same clockspeed.
Gola
Yah rather get it on MTN, atleast there will be no branding, your W960 will be stable, and you will be able to update its FW with proper generic FW, Vodafone SA take for ever to get new FW,after having a Voda branded W900 im sure you don't want the same for your 1st Smartphone bro.
