Check out the UIQBlog Wangs.
Stuff about a hack that can allow you to access all drives on your UIQ phone.
Z: ROM drive is now open sesame for you to go in and cause havoc.
Me,personally am a bit afraid of delving in there to be ohnest.
Rather let the guinea pigs in first and see what comes of it.
Tranced seems to have jumped in guns blazing.
Hope he comes in here and gives us some feed-back of what can be done and why you would want to.
The Evangelist gives you a link where all the software can be downloaded and instructions.
I hate the way people give instructions.
You get lost halfway through.
Im going to sit back and keep a beady eye on this one and once something pops up that gets my attention,go in guns blazing alongside Tranced and hope I dont kill my phone.lol

@ Hobbster:
Ya thanks, I read the 'Pandora's Box' thread on esato. I'm just hestitant to go and blindly fiddle, with all guns blazing while not having much of a clue as to what I'm goffeling, LOL.
'A Wanqa's Guide to Bricking a Phone in 2 Easy Steps', LOL.

Posted by HOBBS
Thats my take on the whole affair too Wangerman.
Im waiting for the Russian Masters to experiment with this hack and then steer me in a direction that makes more sense other than been able to access private files and not know what I'm looking at
or what the consequences are if by chance I start to fiddle.
Hanging out on the sidelines I am.
Tranced.Where you at? What have you managed to do with all this?

here i am.

i just accessed to the folders and i tried to copy the private and sys folders to my mspd. i could copy the private folder only. cant seem to copy the sys folder.

well, i was browsing all folders but couldnt figure out anything. i was after the camdriver of my p990. couldnt find it though

Posted by HOBBS
Well keep doing some experimenting Tranced and feed back to us.
Im really curious.
Do me a favour.
See if you can take the icons you find on the Windows XP desktop and use them on your P990i Only jokes.
Thats the first thing Im going to try once I get some more information about this whole thing.

just watched surfs up,it's one hell of a movie.l know it's been out for a while now.i'd advise everyone to watch it,if you have, well watch it again!

Posted by brix25
Seem to recall when I first got a smartphone being told that I could do everything with except go messing about in the system folders. For instance, in the P910 they were easy to access but unlike tranced I never thought about attempting to copy the content of my private and system folders.
So unless you're qualified, I'd advise against this.

Posted by HOBBS
I agree Brix.Im sure we gonna be hearing horror stories from some of the more curious folk soon. You can now download the W960i Z:private and C:system folders on Ipmart.People are going to start mish-mashing between models W960i to P1i.Hair-raising stuff.Like I said to Wangs,Im just watching and waiting for something useful and then jumping in myself.

Ok a lightbulb moment with something Trance said. When you change your fonts all you are doing is mirroring the Resource/font folder in your C:therefore apon rebooting your phone, your memory stick takes preference over the C: So the whole idea is to mirror your Z: and C:folders onto your memory stick, make changes where necessary, and on reboot your memory stick folders take preference.Am i right Tranced?_________________

HOBBS, that last bit sounds pretty confusing. What if you make a mistake can you "undo" it?

Posted by HOBBS
Just like reinstalling your default font after changing it,you just take out the memory card and reboot. On reboot your phone without the memory card picks up C:Resource/Fonts and not D:Resource/Fonts (the replica you made on your memory stick.
You are not actually touching your phones C:drive folders when making changes. You are just copying them over to your memory stick and making changes on the copied files.
On rebooting, your phone is thinking your memory card is your phones system folders because they are identical and for some reason your memory card takes preference.
Everything just returns to normal after you reboot without memory card.

Brix,pop into symb1an-fre@k.
Theres almost 50 pages of discussion going on over there about the hack for S60 phones.
Downloads and instructions are available and a nice little piece on justifying this hack as not been wrong and something we should have been able to do from the start because of how much these phones ultimately cost.
Nice one.
Im having lightbulb moments every 5 minutes now of what I could possibly be able to end up doing and having a phone modded and tweaked perfectly to my liking.
But patient I be.

Posted by JC08
@ all, im on my way back home today, will post many pics 2mo...

Posted by GUCCI.011
All this Hacking and modding of this, and opening of that etc. . . Got me dizzy.
I saw that i can hack my phone as well but if i restart it,it will be "unhacked" again, the procedeur looks long, think il wait for something more uhmm. . .practical, ive already got my Device Certificate and i have MobileSigner so i can sign applications to install and work on my phone so realy don't need to hack. . . . . .Yet.
Im scared of killing my phone anyway.
@ JC
Great stuff bro

No guessing where these were taken

From signal hill

At the waterfront

Okay, I have more to follow, but will do it tomorrow

Posted by brix25
@HOBBS: It sounds very scary. I'll check out that website but right now I'm still sceptical about this whole hacking business.

Posted by HOBBS
Its only scary for us idiots Brix because we dont know much about it.Once we become more educated on the matter we will see the opportunities that are open to us.In time

Great pics there bro!! you and your K810 did a sweet job!

Yeah, great pics indeed, JC!
Great to see more cellphone pics in the thread. Those pics of Signal Hill and The Waterfront brought back quite a few memories for me.

@ Hobbster:
Keep meaning to mention, 2 minor quirks with that smoke abstract theme. The highlighted info on the screen, when scrolling etc always has a white line through the text, and setting the alarm is a bit of a bugger, as the highlighted unit of time is blank when you try to change it.
It'll still change, but you gotta keep count as to how many taps with the stylus you've made to get to the desired hour/minute. One can then check by scrolling across to one of the other alarm settings, to check that you've set the alarm time correctly:

While on the subject of time, tonight at midnight, daylight saving ends here, until the end of October again. Thus there'll only be one hour difference between the UK and SA from tomorrow, as watches, clocks etc are all moved one hour forward. The PC's automatically adjust.

The W880i is now only £99.95 (approx R1600 with the current exchange rate),unbranded and unlocked, from the UK's Carphone Warehouse:

Switch to MTN if you have the option bro, that way you will get it now and it won't Branded.
Wanqa
that trike looks good!
R1600 for a W880? Thats actualy what i think that thing should be worth, but here last time i checked the Gold W880 was around R3200! Im sure it's dropped a bit now though.

Posted by amawanqa
@ Gucci:
Ya I agree; for what the W880i is, it was very over-priced until now.
Quite like the look of the dirty-gold Vodafone one, but personally I wouldn't consider one as a second phone; those li'l buttons are too small and 'fiddly' for my liking.

Posted by HOBBS
Yeah Wangs.Only checked that yesterday with the alarm been blanked out.Going to correct it in Themes Creator and when I do,send you a copy.

Posted by amawanqa
Thanks boet.
Well, 4 months from today and we'll be in CT.
A pity da brixsta won't be around The Mother City over that time period as well.

Hi there and hell no. Work kicked in, in a hell of a way. So I am there.. just damn busy. To be honest I'm burning out and was scheduled for leave but my girlfriends leave wasn't approved so I'm hanging on till i can take her on holiday somewhere.

Thanks for noticing though

@ Kyle
Thats great man, get a MTN sim! Or even Cell C.
Im realy thinking of switching to MTN, VODACOM have a bad signal where i am, not even EDGE, and the 3G signal fluctuates like crazy sometimes.

So who got pranked today?

Posted by amawanqa
Well I just loved the April Fool's story in today's free London newspaper called the Metro.

http://www.metro.co.uk/news/a[....]rticle_id=130296&in_page_id=34

Dr Hans Zoff...(LOL)

Canine Repellant Alloy Protection... (turning it into an abbreviation = C.R.A.P.)... LMAO!

@ Gucci:
Ya, their eyes are amazing indeed. Stunning creatures.

@ da brixsta:
It was taken at the same place as the bike show. The owner of the owls was raising money for a local Hospice.
