@gola: I need to get my hands on the new UIQ. So it will either be the aforementioned W960 or the P1i:-)
@kyle: Maths ain't no joke...Even if your weak at figures there's no need to just dismiss the importance of arithmetic.
@da wanqsta: The only time I can have Amarula is by myself. Haven't had it in a long time and certainly not for that price.
Off topic: Do you guys(except for mario) ever think the races will be able to get along? I'm lying in my bed and my Chinese neighbours in the flat above me are having a helluva party- on a Monday night. Loud and inconsiderate, like townships the on weekends. As I'm listening to their loud conversations (in Mandarin) in the passageway, next to my window all those racist stereotypes spring to mind. What does this say of me? Does it make me (God forbid) a racist for blaming Chinese for the loud pricks upstairs?

No brix. You excused from the race issue. You just a "Grumpy Old Man" lol

Amarula in that Caramel flavour is so good!

Im very easy going when it comes to people in my block having fun and a bit of a party at crazy hours of the morning week days and all.Life is to short to waste been all uptight and anal.Work eat sleep...work eat sleep...work eat sleep When does it end. We"ve become robots. So a little inconvenience on your part Brix not been able to get some sleep because of some noise and then thinking about "does this make me racist because they Chinese ect" just means that you should take off that thinking cap you so proudly wear and exchange them for some dancing shoes and "let go" pants.Take this very lightly. We got the Dommies on our ass and Im going to hold the fort single;handedly if i have to.FREEEEEEEDOM!
Posted by HOBBS
Good to hear Brix you going UIQ again.P1 or w960i? Mmm.The öonly problem with the W960i is,when is it coming to our shores? if you do some enquiring and get the answer to that golden question, let us know.If you cant wait then im sure as Wangs would tell you the P1 aint a bad choice either.By the way, what did you think of your buddies P990i? I think im pleased it took them a year to release because build wise its top notch. It looks fantastic (in my opinion) and is pretty solid.) By the way can you believe I cant get my hands on a Green Sony Ericsson T650i.Both Mtn and Vodacom only stock them in Midnight Blue and if you ask them to try and order you a Green one,you met with a blank stare and a pathetic reply that Sony Ericsson only supplies them with the blue. They never had a choice of colours to choose from.I even threatened the whole "i'll port over to ..." and that didnt even move them,so they obviously dont have the option of offering me the Green one.Its Blue or the door.Fullstop.If anyone comes across a Green one in a Mtn store, give me a shout.
Posted by Kryptik
Not to worry, Brix, if that makes you racist then i'm the Queen of England. Some people, regardless of their colour or ethnic origin, just show no consideration for the rights of others. Maybe you should wait until you're returning home in the early hours one morning, then go and wake them... maybe borrow a cup of brown sugar, lol.

@Gucci-Hope you breezed through your physics and chemistry thingymigingy today.
By the way JC,why do you have to wake up at 4.30 in the morning?

@BRIX,
i think all races will get along the moment the issue about racism gets dropped...
Posted by brix25
Thanks guys for re-assuring me that I'm still an equal opportunity bigot.
@Rhino: Having had the chance to reflect, I don't think my response(or lack thereof) was racist...it might just be cultural differences.

Its going to take about 50 or more odd years Rhino to change. Not in my lifetime at least.Racism topic locked. Not a cool subject.

@ gucci, well wat i hve been doin the part 2 or 3 months. is. . . . nothing at all. lol. im waiting 4 my mom 2 get info 4 a mechanics trade. yesterday i had my first day at my first job. as a handy man.
@brix, no dude. me and maths dnt go together very well. my brain just cnt handle it. lol
Posted by Kryptik
Not to worry, Kyle, i did math full-time for 4 years after matric, then an additional year of it a while later, and i STILL can't figure out most of it!
Posted by kyle_274
lmao. that makes me fell better. the main reason why i hate maths is wen you have to do a sum like this (AB x 10 - C2 + abc9) how the f**k are u supposed to add numbers to letters. its like adding icecream with meat. the just dont go together. lol

Re-ignited the P990i affair? Knew the wind would change direction again; die 'Kaapse Dokter' blowing in CT today? Must be UIQ favour today then, LOL.
Wi-fi is sporadic in parts here. A regular wi-fi scan at home picks up my broadband router and one or two others. Only when I'm away from home or work do I actually use it, if/where wi-fi hotspots are. (as I mentioned before, I'm surrounded by unlimited broadband at work and home, so no pressing need for accessing it).
Some local coffee shops are cleverly marketing themselves as wi-fi hot spots, and then wi-fi comes into its own on the P1i.
Thing is, most times that we're out and about, we're socialising or spending quality time together, so I seldom use wi-fi in such situations...balance in life and all that. Darth Mario will be so proud of me...

@da wanqsta: What are the speeds like on wi-fi hotspots? And don't these networks drain your battery?
Posted by JC08
@ Hobbs, to go to the gym bro... I dont have time in the afternoon coz of rugby practise, physio and schoolwork... Lol
@ all, tell me what do you think of ipod nano, and hows R1300 for a 4gb?
Posted by brix25
@JC08: I own the new iPod Nano- my second one. Have to say its a brilliant little device and does what its supposed to do- most of the time.
My only gripe is with the new iTunes software, particularly the sync function...my specific beef being that doesn't always note the last songs played and new song added to the library.
Don't know about watching movies on the small screen, unless you're down with squinting your way through the Lord of The Rings trilogy.
For R1300 its not too bad I suppose.
Posted by HOBBS
Jc ìwith R1300 id track me down a 8GB M2/Pro Duo memory stick and stick it in my P990i.One device for me.Ive never gotten into the whole Ipod craze im afraid.Brix has one so maybe he can advise you better, but for me it would be spent on a 8GB card.
Posted by amawanqa
@ da brixsta: Wi-fi hotspots here, like most others, are usually either 802.11b (up to 10mpbs) or (occasionally) 802.11g, up to 54mbps!
The P1i's wi-fi is 802.11b like many others. And yes, the battery's juice level did show a relatively quick drop each time on those few occasions, as expected.
Now then, imagine being equipped with 802.11n when this proposed new benchmark emerges later in 2009, supporting speeds up to 108mbps...!!
Battery technology just can't keep up...sigh.
EDIT: I'll try be more precise and accurate re:performance stats next time we visit the local Starbucks.

Posted by JC08
@ Hobbs geez man, haha its only bad to wakeup at that time, but I easily wake and after that i have lots of energy... I dont think I'll get a 8gb card as I feel the SQ of my k810 arent good enough and that I'll be upgrading to soon to spend so much dough on something I may not use... Atm phones that can cater to all my needs is about n95-8gb only, and maybe n82 but we'll see... The problem is it takes to long for the new feature packed phones to be released... I like g900, but I really want HSDPA as i browse mainly with my phone...

We're bracing ourselves for the second phase of the huge, severe storm that's due to hit us early tomorrow morning. Even now the wind's starting to pick up again.
Eish, hope all the roof tiles and wooden fence panels hold out OK over the next 24-48 hours.
Posted by HOBBS
Hope u get thru phase two of the storm Wangs without any damage to your house or yourselves.I havent been watching any of the World news channels so im not to clued up on whats going down in your neck of the woods.Sounds freaky though. We should all just buy a spare battery and stop moaning or spare batteries should come standard in our boxes when we buy our phones.
Posted by GUCCI.011
Ay i agree with Wanqa, browsing through a WiFi connection takes lots battery, i usualy do that when im at McDonalds, Trumps or Breadbreakfast when waiting alone to go home from a Mall, but it's so fast and smooth.
@ JC
Dam boet thats heavy! Im getting too lazy to gym lol!
@ Brix
For battery life i'd say rather get a P1,it has a much higher capacity battery than W960 and P990.
Posted by brix25
@JC08: I forgot to mention Coverflow on the new iPod's is brilliant.
Don't think I mentioned the P990 as a possibility.
@da wanqsta: Don't think batteries can keep up with the increases in speeds of the available networks.
Did you guys check the tech news today? Apparently Ericsson predict that wi-fi hotspots will soon be a thing of the past.

@ Hobbster:
Damn, that's a bummer. That's poor battery performance if it's conked out already! The P900 is still using its original battery after nearly 4 years of use.
There's no way I'd pay that for a P-series battery. I'll see what prices I can get, re genuine
new ones here and let you know.
Posted by amawanqa
OK, a quick look reveals a genuine
BST-33 retailing for £14.95 (approx R220) from Mobilefun:
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/8838.htm
...or from about £5.00 (approx R75) new for aftermarket ones here, including delivery:

Taking it into Vodacare 8 o'clock tom morning for a
24 evaluation.
Could be software related they said.(me hopes)
If it does turn out to be the battery,Im going to pick it up and get
my aunt in Joburg to send me one down from
Sony Ericsson at Vodaworld.
They charge R389.00
Thats saving just over R200.
Im so depressed
Posted by amawanqa
Eish boet; fingers crossed that it's just a software glitch..
Posted by amawanqa
The
K850i has been slashed in price here, now retailing for just £169.95 (approx R2550) when bought with £10 airtime.
The new W890 is now selling for £229.95 (approx R3450) here.
Posted by HOBBS
Fingers and toes.
Hey, maybe its unfixable and they'll replace it with a P1i.lol (wishful thinking)
Thats R389.00 that could have gone towards my
8GB M2 stick.
Shite!

R419.00 from Cellucity.
R129.00 for generic.
Anyone know of cheap generics for P990i.
I wont use one.
Just curious.

Hobbs, maybe you should try mailing the powers-that-be as well, complain about the lifespan of the battery. Sometimes if you bitch long and loudly enough, success will follow (in my experience, anyway).
Posted by HOBBS
I dont mind your logic Kryps but "long" I dont like the sound of.
Its my first day without my P990i and it hurts bru lol
Lets see what Vodacare say.
Will throw my toys out the cot when I see them tom morn.
Its a good experience if Im positive about the whole affair.
