The p1iblog.com guy from Hong Kong also seems to have a Nokia N82.Check it out his N82 blog at www.n82blog.com Very nice read.Gucci will like this one.

New Gdesk 0.25 available for us UIQ3 users.Get it at http://gdesk.wetpaint.com/page/GDesk+versions
Posted by HOBBS
For GUCCI - At Cellucity 4GB SD = R800
6GB SD = R1100 (pricey mudder!@#$%^&'s! hey)
At least you have a choice. These guys dont have any card bigger than 2GB's (M2 and Pro Duo's) for us Sony Ericsson users and dont even think they gonna be getting any cause theres no demand.WTF! Need to do an online purchase me thinks.

Damn, just phoned MTN's repair center and guess what.My phone is still awaiting to be checked. It's been 2 weeks already and nobody has looked at it.Damn, looks like I'll be waiting for a verrrrrryyyyy longgggg time for my p1 to come back to it's master!WTF
Posted by HOBBS
Jmash, thats just atrocious buddy.I've only had one experience with having to get a phone repaired and thats when years back my Samsung D410's screen died.Took it to my Service Provider who then sent it to a Vodacare and within 4 days it was fixed and delivered to my door.So personally,I have had one good experience. But 2 weeks and no-one has even looked at it is pathetic to say the least.Sounds like MTN are in need of some skilled and efficient cellphone technicians.Maybe I should do a course and apply for a job with them.
Posted by Rhino8
Well the mrs is a cell technician, she is not authorized to repair MTN warranty phones, those have to be sent away, and they sometimes have to wait for 3 months to get the phones back... in alot of cases, because the phones has been sent back to the wrong address or the phones has been misplaced.
I tell you guys, thats a hectic profession with all the limitations and all.
Imagine, ordering parts from nokia takes up to 6 weeks to get to the mrs, ordering the parts from an international destination will be faster.

@ Hobbster,
Thanks for the heads-ups.
@ JMash,
Eish boet; no one should have to put up with 'service' like that!!
Posted by GUCCI.011
@ Wanqa
Thanx boet
@ Hobbs
Lol, i hate chess, realy suck at it, im an athlete, fastest 200m and 400m sprinter in my grade and from what i remember 3rd fastest in my school, and soccer, playing 1st team next term. Im not that in to sport though, i prefer gyming.
WOAH! R800 for a 4GB? That is pretty steep, not even going to talk about a 6GB then. Not even 4GB MS Duo Pro? Im suprised, they should have atleast had 4GB.
Thanx for the link to that N82 Blog

@ tranced: Good to see you in here again.
Your thread'll soon be overtaking us. Wow, you guys are really flying along.
@ Gucci,
No probz, boet.

@ tranced:
PM4U (re Jojo).

@ Gucci what school are you mate?
Posted by brix25
@tranced: Its been more than a week since I spotted the smiley king.
@Jmash: You should be hard on these buggers. I've made a conscious decision to no longer accept pathetic service.
I'll concede though its difficult with a giant like MTN but there should be someone at their head office willing to listen to your complaint- if you do want to speed up this process.
Is it just me or have you guys noticed a massive increase in content providers. Even on a site like a Esato, advertiser links would direct me to SA-specific content.
Posted by Falcon786
Actually the best way to get an mtn cell c or vodacom repair done is to take it directly to an advanced repair center.when the cell companies cant repair a phone at like say vodacare in vodaworld they send it of to IXIA .they cover all the networks repairs and waiting time is under a week.i only know of the one in midrand (allendale offramp) i know this because vodacare once wanted to take my phone in for two weeks and i said that's bull so they told me to take it direct it's quickest way.

@da wanqsta: Hope you survived the earthquake this morning. From reports on BBC it seems not too many people were injured.
Posted by HOBBS
JUST READ THE BBC NEWS REPORT ON THAT EARTHQUAKE AND IT DOESNT SOUND LIKE ANYONE GOT HURT,THANKFULLY.MUST HAVE BEEN REALLY INTERESTING THOUGH HEY WANGS.IMAGINE IF THE GARAGE CEILING FELL IN AND CRUSHED YOUR 'GREEN MONSTER.' WOULDNT THAT HAVE BEEN HILARIOUS.
Posted by Kryptik
I hope that it won't be repeated though. We've seen the devastation caused by quakes in the East... I can't begin to imagine the mayhem a larger quake would have caused.

I didn't know the UK was located near a fault line.

WENT INTO A VODACOM TODAY AND SAW THESE FOUR PHONES ALL SITTING SNUGLY NEXT TO EACH OTHER IN A DISPLAY CABINET.NOKIA N95 8GB,N81 8GB,N82 AND THE MIGHTY R9275.00 NOKIA E90 COMMUNICATOR.ONE OF THESE FOUR ARE GOING TO BE MY UPGRADE IN 96 DAYS.THEY ARE ALL FOUR FANTASTIC PHONES.GUCCI,WHICH ONE OF THESE FOUR WOULD TOP YOUR LIST.DIDNT LIKE THE N81 IN SILVER WHEN I PLAYED ON ONE,BUT THE 8GB IN BLACK IS A BEAUTY.SO IS THE N95 8GB IN BLACK.STUNNING.I SAY IF I HAD A CHOICE BETWEEN THOSE FOUR IT WOULD COME DOWN TO THE N95 8GB VS THE N82.E90 IS OUT OF MY RANGE.NO WAY I CAN GET THAT UNLESS I SELL A TESTICLE TO SOME CHINESE MEDICINE MAN.

ye man it's bad here.had to leave my PS...cant wait for the holidays...
Posted by GUCCI.011
Gola
Cool man, nah K850 doesn't have WiFi.
Shame bro, hows the night life there though? Go to any parties or clubs?
Posted by JC08
Have you guys noticed how overprised voda are when you want to buy a phone cash?
Posted by brix25
@JC: The business model employed by South African networks is to get as many subscribers on fixed term contracts. Contract subscribers spend more on calls and other services so it makes perfect sense. Selling a high-end phone for cheap with the obligatory sim card is no guarantee of any committment unless they start network locking phones.
Off topic: Hope the wanqsta is safe...haven't seen him the whole day:-(

im so tempted in buying an n81. this dude i knw that works in the waterfront/bright water commons has a brand new 1 in his shop where he works 4 R4000. i so badly want it.
Posted by amawanqa
@ da brixsta, Hobbster, et al:
Yeah, sorry for the rather belated responses; I've had an incredibly hectic day today. Under a fair amount of pressure with workload, pupil targets and data etc.
But ya, we're all OK thanks.
Experienced no seismic movements by our place at all last night, so was quite surprised to hear of an earthquake of 5.3 on the Richter Scale this morning.
It did apparently affect parts of London, but the epicentre was further up north in Lincolnshire, but spread further north into yorkshire and right into Wales in the west and of course down here in the south.
None of the kids or staff, bar one of the cleaners who lives a little further away in Forest gate, east London, seemed to experience it either, so I guess we're pretty fortunate from that perspective.
Fortunately no fatalities; have to say that I'm quite surprised to hear about it, as there was one last year (which we also didn't experience), but since the 30's, there's only been a handful of earthquakes, and this one was the second most powerful one that the UK has experienced, since records began.

Are you serious? R4000 for a phone...no ways, add a couple of grand to that amount and you've got yourself a decent laptop. Or have you looked into the special offer Vodacom are running with Apple...for R588/month you can get a MacBook with Vodacome Connect Modem along with a .Mac account with 10Gigs of online storage...that beats any other offer I've seen.
@da wanqsta: Glad to hear that you've not been kept busy clearing up debris but instead the grind that comes from being a teacher.

Glad to hear you were safe boet

Kyle, this is when you offer Brix a walking stick. The man ageth to quickly.lol
Posted by Kryptik
lol Hobbs, don't even go there, boet, the years pass by much too quickly!
Glad to hear that you guys haven't been affected by the quake/shake, Wanqa.
Posted by brix25
@HOBBS: I won't be requiring a walking stick for about another forty-odd years. I still insist that R4000 is too much to pay for a cellphone when there are better offers about on contract.

Posted by HOBBS
Brix if you had to give me R9000 in cash I'd be out the door before you could even say 'out the door' and into a Vodacom shop to purchase a phone without even blinking.Screw laptops.Ive got a desktop.
Posted by brix25
Hayibo! With that sort of cash I'd either a)Throw a massive party...b)Bugger off to Mozambique for a week of fun and sun...c) Walk into the Apple Store and pick up a MacBook or ...d) or buy a 74cm HiDef LCD.
BTW, a bird whispered in my ear and it seems we'll get a similiar DTT compression system as the one currently used in France...mpeg4!

the n95 has way 2 much specs. i dnt want or need gps or a 5mpx cam. i never take pics anyway. i want a phone that is quad band gsm and has edge. gud music, S60, 3.5mm jack. cause im so pissed off with these stupid SE fastports. iv gone thru 3 chargers and headsets. and the n81 is the only phone that i like. and its got everything i want

Had another busy morning today. Meeting with the local area's chief school inspector, then a joint lesson observation with him, getting stuff ready for next week's World Book Day etc etc.
R9000...@ Hobbster:
Maybe I'm suffering from the same common sense syndrome as da brixsta (or getting older too LOL), but there's no way a frugal Wanqa would fork out that amount of dosh for any 'multimedia computer'.
@ Kryptik,
Check this out; a lady learner driver has accidentally turned the Cambridge Bowling Green in East London into a rally course, LOL:
http://www.dispatch.co.za/article.aspx?id=179219
... and the driving school owner (who initially fled the scene, LOL) was not exactly sober... at 3 times over the limit!
@ Gucci,
Ya, thank goodness there's no damage to the property or anything. Only serious injury that I heard of was of someone smashing part of their pelvis when one of the heavy brick chimneys came crashing through a house. Fortunately the person's condition is stable.

I'll call that walking stick an oversized stylus at this stage, LOL.

roflmao! Quite a sobering driving experience there, Wanqa
Posted by GUCCI.011
@ Falcon
Whats great about N81 is the Ngage and Music experience, N95-8gb aint that great at it, but i do agree its specs are unrivald for now, N82 is more than a N95-1 with smaller screen and no slider, N82 is a lot better hardware wise, and has the MOST RAM at boot out of all the NOKIA S60s, and from what i remember its faster and more stable than N95-8gb.
@ Wanqa
Thats good then
Ouch! Hope whoever that was has a speedy recovery that must hurt.
@ Brix, Hobbs and Wanqa
Hehe. . . I gota agree with Hobbs on this one, with R9000 i'd get a E90 with 8GB Mem card. OR an HTC Shift UMPC.
@ Kyle
Thats great bro, hurry up and get the N81 now, i wanna kick your ass at System Rush on Ngage
