So you'd still support South Africa if they played England?

Oh, absolutely, sir.

It's funny, I think I write the longest posts in your thread than anywhere else on Esato! So sorry about the long-winded replies guys!

No worries matey; no apology needed. It's great having such informative posts, and we used to have a bloke here (francois) whose post lengths usually eclipsed most of us on esato. Miss the guy.

@ Gucci,
Yeah I wonder why Nokia haven't made mention of that anywhere.
I'm sure Nokia'll surprise us with some new kick-ass CPU sooner rather than later...

Muhummad, my average mobile data usage is about 60 Rands per month, since all i do is browse the news, a few forums and a random site or two. Apart from that, the only downloads are one or two ebooks, so the data used very rarely exceeds 60 bucks. If our mobile data rates were as excessive as those in NZ i'd be terribly depressed, and would probably confine my internet usage to a pc as well. What's the cellular coverage like over there?

Posted by jmash
My data usage suprised me this month. It escalated from R30 to R153.man I was really suprised.@MO,you guys are really paying dearly for data usage.
@Hobbs,today I got up-close & personal with P990.Man l must say it has the looks, the ui was a bit slow, probably old firmware(didn't check)Now I understand why you like your!If it was a stable phone no doubt I would have settled for it.
@M-O,I use a P1i which is @ the moment at SE Service center for the speaker, currently l'm cruising on a P910i.How is the UI on the w910.

@ The Kryptic One
Where do you get most of your e-books from?I'm looking for a new source, been getting mine from manybooks.net.Got bore with that source coz all the books they have are pretty old.Do you mind pointing to somewhere else bro?
Thanx in advance

Posted by HOBBS
Nice one Jmash.Mines stable and with the ability to turn off Transitions and after installing Tweak Peaks its runs pretty fast.I think its a great 'looker.' With its 'by now' dinosaur specifications it still looks like it packs a punch.lol One good thing of course about the choice you made is of course that 60-70 extra RAM you have after boot-up.Thats gold dude. Can't believe your P1i is still at the repair centre. You must be missing it to pieces.

My data usage comes to around R200 a month (thats with sending the odd sms) I also browse extensibly using wi-fi at work so a more accurate figure can't be obtained.Sometimes I wonder why I even have a phone.I hardly use it for what it was made for, calling and text messaging. I just browse browse and browse some more and of course listen to my tunes.I think my battery does a pretty good job with how much I use it.I charge every night so its full so the next day I have a full days usage. If I didnt browse and listen to my music all day I could maybe squeeze 3 days out of it.Who knows though.I've never given it a chance to see what this battery is capable of.I remember as soon as I unboxed it I played with it until the battery died and then did my 12 hour charge.I just couldnt wait to test drive.

@MO Eish buddy.I did a conversion (doesnt really matter to you) but for 1mb Im going to be paying R22.30 Over here we pay R2/mb but you can buy data bundles that work out to you paying like 0.32/mb which works out for you to like 0.05NZD 5 cents. So come visit and you could have a 'browsing overdose'

Ipmart is going to keep me busy for a while. Thanks Kryps.Going to try start reading again.Havent read a full book in like 7 years,or maybe more.First attempt,Dan Browne's-Digital Fortress

When the NSA's invincible code-breaking machine encounters a mysterious code it cannot break, the agency calls its head cryptographer, Susan Fletcher, a brilliant, beautiful mathematician. What she uncovers sends shock waves through the corridors of power. The NSA is being held hostage--not by guns or bombs -- but by a code so complex that if released would cripple U.S. intelligence. Caught in an accelerating tempest of secrecy and lies, Fletcher battles to save the agency she believes in. Betrayed on all sides, she finds herself fighting not only for her country but for her life, and in the end, for the life of the man she loves.

Sounds good to me.

Got depressed at reading Muhammad-Oli's posts...we haven't been charged any thing close to that since Vodacom and MTN charged R45/MB when GPRS came out.

@ Hobbster:
Not nearly enough, boet. At the moment I'm still 'running in' the engine (up to first 1000 miles), and in April it'll be a year that I've had it...
I usually use the Suzuki TL1000S v-twin, as it's more comfortable for the better half than the more race-orientated greenie.
Sigh, boys and their toys, hey?

Jmash, www.ipmart-forum.com is definitely the place to visit if you're after books. They have a really good selection, and cover most popular authors.

Hobbs, Digital Fortress is BRILLIANT!! Absolutely loved it!! I read some books by Steven Gould over the past few weeks, excellent stuff. Try reading Jumper, it's pretty good. Then there are the Remo books by Warren Murphy. I grew up reading those, lekker pulp fiction. I was pleasantly surprised to find an entire collection of his books on ipmart, 60 of them in all, lol. Managed to read the first 20 to date *sigh* i lurve Mobipocket

You guys are very lucky with your data rates... No wait, us New Zealanders are just very unlucky! I should come to South Africa whenever I want to use gprs when I'm out and about, cause after airfares and everything, it would probably still work out cheaper! I don't think our data rates have ever changed since we first got GPRS either. I know some tricks to get near free data on prepay though, hehe. The cellular coverage here is decent enough. If you go to very small towns or somewhere quite remote, you're likely to find no signal at all, but if you stick to main routes and towns and cities, the coverage is fine. Im not sure, but I don't think we have HSDPA yet. I haven't yet seen an "H" on my W910i.

The W910i is very good so far, and the UI is great. It takes a bit of getting used to with the new softkey layout and slightly changed menus, but it's fine! My only complaint is how terrible it is at handling certain games, but I expect that to change with new firmware (and apparently theres a new one, so I'll try updating tonight).

Remember the days when changing your phone cover was the way to change only it's colour?well not anymore check this out

not a bad idea will have to wait to see if they can implement it smoothly enough..maybe the next craze in cell phones if they market it right.

I have to agree about ip-mart being good, but i like the way our layout @ http://www.powerbookspinoy.com/index.php is easier to browse.

Wow, there's a guy on eBay selling 4 brand NEW R320s phones, for £24.99 (approx R350) each.

Wonder where these having been lying unused for the past 7 or 8 years...
Amazing what crops up on the site from time to time.

Gave it a miss, from the pictures in the Cape Argus it looks like a bit of a disappointment...guess I'll have to check out the next one in seven years.

Do you guys know that with improved speeds you actually end up using more data? I mean, HSDPA 3,6 is ridiculously fast...if all the planets are in perfect alignment you could theoretically have a massive pipe in your pocket but in the same breath it should also blast a hole in your already ripped pocket.

Check out the user beware warning on YouTube's mobile site.

Posted by HOBBS
You lost me after 3.6 HSDPA is ridulously fast.....Pipes? and blasting holes? Lol

Posted by brix25
@HOBBS: Are you serious, should I start writing my posts in Afrikaans or better still XiTsonga?

Expansys here have now got a whole range of phone covers that are said to be the best money can buy (I thought Krusell was...).
Anyway, they're not cheap at all, but as the old saying goes, you pays yer money...

Only thing is, I'm trying really hard to imagine people in SA (who can speak Afrikaans) trying to keep a straight face, if they're ever imported and sold in SA...
Why?
The brand name. Fancy a 'Piel Frama' to cover your phone?

http://www.expansys.com/t.aspx?m=685&se=733

Can you imagine walking into some ultra-larny Sandton City or Canal Walk cellphone shop and asking if they've got a 'Piel Frama' for your phone? LOL.

Its possible, when u mentioned it, i had a quick look in my c-panel, and apparently for the last 12 months, i had 1.1mil hits and about 35 000 visits.

I find it kinda strange as i mostly use the server and domain for pop3 mail and testing php applications...

The forum is really quiet these days so i dont know where all thise hits comes from

Posted by HOBBS
Thats what I was thinking Rhino.Looked around a bit and thought for a site thats had 1.2million hits its awfully quiet. But hey if your 'hit counter' isnt telling lies then I say good one.

HOBBS: I promise to keep it simple the next time.

I can't believe you didn't understand what I was said in that earlier post.

@ gola,
Dig the clarity in your 2 recent W900i pics, in the esato photo album.

Posted by amawanqa
P1i pic:

Orange here in the UK have now got their latest Windowsmobile handset in stock, in the form of the SPV e610. Made by Amoi, it's only 15mm thick, full qwerty keyboard and the usual 2mp cam offering.

Not too shabby for the money.. (£99.99 approx R1400):

Posted by amawanqa
Reading the preview of the G900 on GSMarena has convinced me further that the G900 is my next UIQ handset. Just a pity that it's a bit bland looking, compared to the P1i, for instance.

http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_g900-review-221.php

The new Nokia 6220 looks pretty darn impressive for a mid-range S60 phone too. Maybe the mrs's next phone when it hits the shelves, and then I'll play with it as well, LOL.

Posted by gola
woah,that's cheap! ! !
haven't been watching much tele lately, but i hear people talking about a South African music video with an iphone in it.it's a pretty old song, but how is the iphone in SA part explained?

Posted by gola
SE should've atleast added an led to the G900...

Posted by brix25
@gola: That's DJ Sbu's video featuring the iPhone and his Audi TT (before they took it away).

Seeing an iPhone is not uncommon, just shows that there are stupid people with a whole lot of money to burn.

Off topic: Did any of you guys watch eTV news this evening? Our health minister admitted that she used alcohol "responsibly"- a year after she had a liver transplant.

Posted by amawanqa
@ gola:
They did; it's next to the side charging port. Like the P1i, it only lights up if there's a missed call, new sms received or if it's charging.
But yeah, a 'standby' function LED like most of the WindowsMobile offerings have (as well as various other handsets), would've been a simple enough addition..especially if I'm trying to locate the phone in the dark, LOL.

Posted by HOBBS
Sorry Brix, you lost me after 'our health minister admitted......' You r hilarious bud.

By the way,did you guys hear today about that bloke who sold his entire record collection on E-Bay and got 3 million dollars for the lot. That guy hit the jackpot.Think some Irish bloke bought it.
