@Ama, huh, is my nickname spelled right? Althou I can't make out 100% what you are saying, I am aware of Jojo's plite. Look at the nr. of postings he did - just imagine the time he spend on the net searching, looking for stuff, etc. etc. The net is good and bad at the same time, especially if used the way he did. You won't believe it but I used to spend just as much if not more time 'online'. I had, back in the late '80's, a SAPONET digi line just for this. (internet was almost unknown in SA by then) I used my family in Europe as a excuse (for myself) to be online and spend almost my entire wage + savings on things which involved no human iteractio. I am cured now
Anyway here is Janbobejan's 'happy link' with compliments from SAPS internal jokemail

Hobbster smaaks the X1 too Wangs. Now he doesnt have to worry about messing with Windows icons cause the baby is Windows Mobile.Give u more feedback on what i think of all these new phones when i get in front of a PC.
Posted by amawanqa
@ Gucci,
Ya, it has to be
's best brace of new releases for quite some time.
I really haven't been impressed at all with most of their offerings last year (excluding the 2 UIQ3 biggies, although they haven't been mind-blowing leaps forward).
These new ones announced today look like a welcome breath of fresh air, not just rehashes, with only the Z770 having iffy specs, well compared to the others on offer anyway.
I think it's great that
is no longer just limiting its smartphone range to UIQ3 too.
At least a few of these new offerings closes the gap to an extent, in SOME areas, on Nokia's flagship N-series' specs, and about time too.
Let's hope there's more announced on Wednesday...
Posted by HOBBS
Nah wangs.dont fancy the look of those G-series twins.Need better pics to convince me.

@ Hobbster,
So The Pharaohs are African Cup of Nations champs again...
Oh well, the new
launches today is pretty good news, at least. @ da brixsta,
Try not to wind up too many ManUre fans tomorrow...
Posted by amawanqa
Yup, the G-series is probably the most boring-looking of the new phones (a flattened/steamrolled K750i or K610i look, LOL), but the specs and dimensions is making me give the
G900 'the twice-over'...
Slim form, movable ('touch') auto-focus, 5mp, touchscreen... = Happy Wanqa.

@ gola & Gucci,
Not long to go now before the latest, highly anticipated Nokia launch...
Posted by brix25
Was nowhere near any communication device for the most part of the day but managed to digest what I could from the latest
announcement.
Like most people on here when I looked at the rss feed off Gizmodo I almost fell off my chair in excitement.
Xperia X1 and the W980 are definitely, IMHO, the best of the lot. Finer details on all the new phones are a bit scant, like for instance the presence of graphics accelerators.
Hopefully the oligarchs amongst this collection of the proleteriat should be able to get these phones locally from about August/September!
Posted by JC08
Man ive fallen in love with the X1, Too bad it wont be here by august... So now lets see what nokia has up its sleeve?
Posted by HOBBS
I aint falling in love with any X1 thank you very much. You already know what the Nokia E90 goes for here on contract, now can you imagine what that X1 will go for.The same or more.Going to have a good look when i get to work of all these new phones.
Posted by brix25
The only reason the the X1's can only display 65k colours is due to Windows Mobile, else it would've boasted a 262k display.
I've never owned a WM device, played around with a friend's Jam but that would be comparing apples to pears since the
comes packed with WM6.
@HOBBS: The E90 looks quite bulky when compared to the X1.
Posted by HOBBS
Dudes.Had a look at nice big pics on the desktop and Im starting to put away the pennys in my piggy bank.X1 is mine, unless the P-series awaited handset sways me.Cmon Gucci and everyone else in this thread.Lets all get one.The South African X1 Mobile discussion Thread we become.Hooooorrrrrrraaaaayyyyy!

Wow SE finally woke up, they have some decent new phones!
Posted by Rhino8
My list, i am in love with the x1, i would likely not be able to Afford it, so ill settle for the g900, and if in the unlikely case that i cant afford that, ill settle for the g700... if i look at the stats that should be the pricing order
Posted by GUCCI.011
Well i was pretty happy for SE but then just saw the two new NOKIAs, N96, 16GB internal memory PLUS MicroSD expantion, DVB-H TV Antenna, an OMAP chipset, kickstand for watching Movies and TV, TV-OUT etc. . .man NOKIA with one phone have stolen the glory from SE, and the N78 looks great as well, when July comes im sure N96 will be at around R8000+ lol, guess the N78 is my next Nseries
Just noticed theres more Nokias that were announced:
6220-Classic and 6210-Navigator both are Symbian S60, and the 6220-Classic specs make me wonder if it maybe using the OMAP2420 chip found in N82,E90,N93,N95 and N96, thats pretty dam good for a non Nseries and non Eseries phone.

@ Gucci,
16 gigs is only currently matched by the latest iPhone, but as you rightly said, there's the card slot as well.
The TV-out stuff etc are also nice additions (better than the dud N77 which never made it here anyway), and that neat li'l slotted stand idea.
But the new
G900 does it for me, not in looks as such, but such a slim touchscreen smartphone, with those dimensions, and a new AF 'touch' function (that no Nokia currently has... But hey, that's me; ya'll know how much I smaak cellphone photography and touchscreen input.
Either way, it's early in 2008 and both
and Nokia have already launched some truly awesome phones.
I wouldn't mind getting the X1, G900 AND C702.
That's gotta be the first time I've desired 3
offerings simultaneously...
C'mon Nokia, howzabout a bril N-series with one of those rumoured touchsceen interfaces, LOL. Their last effort was the 7710, which flopped.
Wouldn't mind they made a slimmer version of the N82, which I really like too.

@ Gucci,
True, although both those phones are still S60 based, so one would assume at least mid-range ordnance. However, the 6220 Classic comes with the 5mp cam with Zeiss optics etc etc! Wow! Would've expected a 3.2mp on it.
Also, the fab Maps 2.0 software, with the new audio features etc is free!
Hmmm, the cellphone wars are hotting up somewhat, methinks.
Let's see if Samsung have anything up their sleeve, and if Moto's still alive n' kickin'...

@ rhino,
Yeah, same here.
If I have a secondary phone that's not touchscreen, then fair enough.
But my primary phone will (hopefully) always be touchscreen.

im very interested in the n96. i just wish they wud make a similar phone but with out gps and a 2mpx cam i dnt want gps neither a 5mpx cam. the x1 is a very interesting phone. that arc slide thing seems cul. i dnt like the luk of the new c series. well if never really like any k series phones. i like the new g line up. but again i dnt like the luks. the w980 i like the luks of that. iv been waitin 4 SE 2 release a high/mid end flip phone.
Posted by brix25
@GUCCI: With all those nice new features, the question that potential N96 buyers need to ask themselves is : "So what's the average talk and standby times?"
@da wanqsta: Saw a couple of Motorola's releases and it doesn't take a business science major to see why the company is losing money. Too many meaningless low-end phones and not much innovation in the areas where the company should be challenging the likes of Blokia,
and Samsung.
Posted by HOBBS
Gucci,I've had first hand experience with DVB-H technology.2 years ago M-net had a 1 year test where some lucky MNET subscribers were randomly chosen to test the technology on Sagem DVB-H capable/enabled phones, free for one year. Its was gob-smackingly gob-smacking.They had 16 channels to play with. All I can say everytime time I connected without a glitch and it played TV without any delay in picture or sound.Real-time.Crystal clear.I think I mentioned this a while back Wanga.MNet/DSTV have been ready for this technology for 2-3 years now just waiting for cell phones to catch up.BUT remember it was a free trial so my buddy could go ballistic with it.How much will it cost you to watch TV on your cell-phone (suscription ect) Is it worth it.And dont compare that Vodacom free TV thing for R29/month.These were all the top channels (sports*3,MNET,MM1,BBC/Sky/CNN ect)
Posted by GUCCI.011
@ Wanqa
Very true, SE tend to always one up NOKIA in the camera department hey, i had no idea a phone could have that. Touchscreen is realy not for me, the TyTN made me decide that, but yep each to their own.
@ Brix
So true! Im shocked to see a 950mah battery in the N96, same weak battery used in N95 Classic, i dont care what NOKIA say they've done to optimize batt life the N96 won't last long with heavy use, the N78 got a 1200mah battery, WTF were they thinking!?
@ Hobbs
Sounds great!
Here i go being indecisive, i think il settle for N82-Black, N78 doesnt have an accelerometer, and im sure we may find a GPU missing as well, DAM YOU NOKIA!
Posted by amawanqa
@ Gucci,
Hmmm, I dunno. Nokia certainly levelled what little playing field there was with the N95; there's been enough comparisons to show that with the current line-up of phones, Nokia's 5mp cams are THE ones to beat.
If I think back to the days of VGA and 1.3mp cams, both the 7600 I have and the 3230 I had took pretty damn good pics, compared to the same pixel cams that
offered. (a mate had a W550i, for example, and I had experience with the T610, T630 and of course P900 to compare). The only
phone that could topple The Dark Side in these categories was the CCD sensor equiped S700i.
Personally, I think
only made some serious headway when they brought out the K750i and W800i.
The cams in those still are the benchmark 2mp cams out there, IMHO.
On the other hand, their el cheapo, non-a/f 2mp cameras on some of their other cellphones are some of the worst that I've ever played around with..
As for the 3.2mp offerings, well both the N73 and P1i cams have their strengths and weaknesses; there really isn't a clear-cut winner in this segment, from my own personal experiences.

Damn I had to go back to UIQ2 today.Took my P1i back to MTN today because the speaker started to misbehave.I hope they are fast on the repairs, have to wait about 6 weeks to get it back.Right now I'm using a P910i which to me is best smartphone SE ever made, not bad at all.But I must admit I'm gonna miss the p1.Hope it comes back sorted out.I'm just worried about the scratches next to the stylus it got when I dropped it,those guys might say the warranty is void.Have to Wait & See!
Once again-Enjoy it da Brixsta!

OK,I TAKE BACK THE LG AND SAMSUNG STATEMENTS.IVE JUST VISITED ANOTHER SYMBIAN SITE AND THERE ARE PICTURES OF A SAMSUNG SGH-G810 AND A LG KT610 (BOTH SUPRISINGLY RUNNING THE S60 PLATFORM.NOT BAD AT ALL.GOOD ONE.
AND THEN SAW SOME PICTURE OF A MOTOROLA Z12 AND I MUST SAY THE WHOLE DESIGN TEAM FOR MOTOROLA SHOULD BE REMOVED AND REPLACED WITH SOME FRESH BLOOD WITH NEW AND INNOVATIVE IDEAS,WHO NEVER LIVED THROUGH THE SUCCESS DAYS OF THE V3 RAZR.THEY GOT TO SERIOUSLY DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT OR IM AFRAID IF THERE WAS A VOTE TO SAY MOTOROLA STAY OR GO, I'LL BE SHOWING THEM THE DOOR.
ITS NICE TO SEE THIS MIX AND MATCH OF BRANDS AND PLATFORMS-SAMSUNG/LG RUNNING S60,SONY ERICSSON-WINDOWS MOBILE ECT EXCITING TIMES INDEED.
Posted by HOBBS
QUITE FUNNY.I'VE BEEN TO TWO SYMBIAN SITES NOW LOOKING FOR X1 INFORMATION AND ONLY FINDING STUFF ON THE G700/G900.THATS THE PROBLEM WITH X1 RUNNING WINDOWS MOBILE.NOW TO KEEP UP TO DATE WITH X1 NEWS YOU GOTTA FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE TO GO READ ABOUT IT OTHER THAN YOUR FREQUENTLY VISITED SYMBIAN SITES.

Really it's a shame that moto are coming out with nothing nice lately.i remember how excited i was when i got my e1000 it was great(had lots of "wow what phone is that"comments) and after that no innovation from them.plus ugly designs....at least
seem to be breaking out of that kinda downfall, that x1 looks wow i cant wait to xperia-nce it!bring it out sooner
and i will definitely go back to
the others launched like g and c series seem to give you too many compromises...good in only certain departments.
