damn, that really IS horrible service! Did they provide any reasons why it's taking so long to sort out the ring, boet?

Said the supplier was closed, but the supplier closing isnt my problem if the store manager said 4-8 weeks, i dont expect waiting 18 weeks.

Posted by amawanqa
That's bloody poor service. 18 weeks is ridiculous. What kind of supplier closes for 18 weeks?! Do they mean to say that they can't find an alternative supplier at all?
@ JC,
No boet, I kinda was like that years ago, but you reach a point when the word 'gatvol' becomes the only perfect word to describe a need to change strategies.
Unfortunately, one HAS to really put one's foot down in such situations. I'm not saying being 'haregat' to the point of unacceptably rude or even worse insulting (which is also unacceptable), but being very assertive and MAKE them explain as to why it's taking so long and challenge them when given a dof answer, so that you can then filter through what's BS and what's plausible.
One of the few good habits that I've picked up from the Poms is that they don't stand for kak service like that at all. They're fully aware of their consumer rights and will quickly let one know how many 'blue beans make five' if they've been treated unreasonably in a consumer environment. I'm not saying that's the solution for all, but damn, it seems to solve most around here..

from this day fourth i'll be a proud Witsie here goes tertiary life...

@ Gola good luck man, I hope u have a great time...
@ ama thanx for the advice

@Rhino: Sorry to hear about all the wedding-related anxiety....I'll be hitting the 3-0 next month and I'm nowhere near getting hitched...always joke about it to my girlfriend.

Back onto cellphones...The last couple of days I've noticed three people, on the street with their Apple iPhones firmly stuck to their ears. My former colleague at my old newspaper got an unlocked one through some backdoor via Australia...and the only ones I've seen for sale are online...and most of them are the 8GB model which goes for anything over R5k...compared to the $399 (R2857 at the current exchange) which the phone is sold for on the AT&T website.

Like I've previously said, I've played with the iPhone...its pretty nice but jeez, the price of currently acquiring it is pretty steep...If I'm paying that sort of money it should at least come with a warranty.

Posted by HOBBS
Do u work hard 4 your money? If you do,tell them to get *@*+!# and find someone else who can do your rings.Just my 10c worth.

GO BAFANA!

Posted by amawanqa
Thing is, from what rhino sez, he's paid for it already. He's done that in good faith I'm sure; unfortunately that's a 'business faux pas' (IMHO) in this modern dog-eat-dog society...
A deposit for something that has to be made up is/ should be the standard business ethic.
But total amount up front before completion is such a risk; it screws a lot of options in a case like this.
Happens occasionally in the domestic building industry here, for example.

Rhino, I sincerely hope they pull their finger out and make a drastic plan boet, and quick, 'cos this reeks of Grade A BS from those jewellers.

@ Hobbster,
Seems like No-Go Bafana at the moment... do you remember the hostile reception they got last time upon their unceremonious return?

Rhino, i agree with what Wanqa says... if there's any means of recovering your moola, do it, and find a manufacturing jeweller closer to home. If you were in Cape Town i could refer you to somebody who has a brilliant track record, and wouldn't give you the runaround.

Gola, congrats on being accepted, dude It's a whole new ballgame once you leave school, but plenty of fun as well.

Talking about 'power'. Check this DA joke. http://mybroadband.co.za/news/General/2646.html
On another note.Shortly I will change my user/nickname from 'mario2004' to 'janjanbobejan'. Sorry about the confusion (if any)

@ J-J-BJ (the S60 artist formerly known as mario2002-mario2004):

Eish, power is the operative word there, boet. Those Eskom Heirachy bonus and salary figures are incredible!
Dang, wouldn't mind the mrs' old man was in that inner circle LOL; he could then spare us a good few million out of all the 'earned' millions and we then we could return and live comfortably in SA... well not in Camps Bay anyway LOL.
Nah, Knysna for me or by one of the East Coast resorts just outside EL. Sigh, dream on, Wanqa...

LOL @ mario2004

Any opinions on the new low-end phones announced early this morning? Personally I'm a bit ambivalent but should I be nudged I'd go for the R306 which doesn't seem too bad...just a pity that these new phone carry the R designation which had previously been reserved for RUGGED phones in the days of

JK: The poor peasants are all screaming for justice to prevail...how does anyone give up a good phone just because one is bored?

AM thats means i can listen to 567 Cape Talk.Kewl

This been my first post with the new nick, I find it apropriate to start here No insult or anything ment. Take it as it comes, Nokia almost gave me a hard atack by dropping over 20% this year (share price). After the good results it bounced back 15 or so. Reason enough for me to sell all of them. As of today I support Samsung (still using and abusing Nokia thou).
Ah, I almost forgot the 'happy' link: http://www.hayibo.com/articles/view/6

Haven't listened to 567 CapeTalk for more than a year...and I'm a serious news junkie. Back onto the new R-series, I like the dual-front design...radio on one side and phone on the other...pretty naff!

@JanBobeJan: You could've asked one of the mods to change your nick, no need to start from scratch.

P1i pic time.
A cloudless late Winter sunset over east London, taken today from the school's roof garden. (The top level of the school was hit by a German bomb during WW2, so my class is one of only 2 left intact on the 3rd level of the big Victorian building).
The 'O2' (the building formerly known as The Millenium Dome) building's support arms can just be seen in the centre, with the distinctive Canary Wharf building on the extreme right.

Lol,hey each to their own man, i wouldn't be cought dead with any of those, but ye the one on the top pic on the left aint too bad. . . .i guess, but definetly not my type
Get this im at Sandton Village Walk, my hair dresser is here and im in need of a haircut so i walk in to the saloon and find that one of the grade8 boys at my school is here, now im quite a kind guy and matric, im not one who strikes fear in to the younger ones but do expect respect but the moment this kid realised who i am he freaked out, he jumpd up out of his seat and gave it up to me, and went to stand by his Mom while we wait, the poor kid looked like he was going to sh#t himself, so decided to walk out and tell them to call me when they are ready for me, the kid was going to have a nervous breakdown if i stayd any longer lol!

Posted by Kryptik
roflmao Gucci! Shame man, those Grade 8 youngsters are still green as grass, you can smell their fear when they walk by! I'm glad you did what you could to put him at ease.

Just a quick "howzit" to any of the forumites from Mogale City (formely Krugersdorp). Flew in this morning with a friend to buy a car then driving back to Slaapstad late this afternoon. Haven't been to Jozi for more than a year and nothing much has changed...its still big, flashy and there's a blind Zimbabwean beggar on almost every corner.
