Posted by brix25
Don't you guys have an Incredible Connection in Gaberone? Else you'll have to buy the dongle from an online store.

Posted by t105crazzy
@ brix25 : we hav Incredible conncetion but they don't have the dongle. I tried to talk to them, but they ar just stalling me.

All they have is the USB to IRDA and the Bluetooth Dongle only

Posted by brix25
Just heard from a reliable source that K750 will launched in July with the W800 available on Aug 15th.

Posted by mario2002
But is not EDGE nor a smart phone. To buy phone just for pics,I am not so sure :-( also some users complain about the audio volume level.I think the Samsung 5MP camera phone is a better buy if picture taking is your game.Any news about the N90?

Posted by JK

Went into an MTN store this morning and they've got a crazy promotion on Motorola's... Generally I don't like Moto's but at R3299 for the V3 and R1699 for the EDGE-capable V547 even a naysayer has to take note.

Posted by Tahir Ally
HELLO MOTO.Brix Vodacom stores can give you the V3 @R3300 with BT hset. And from 6 June we will have the BLACK V3..............MTN LAUNCHING 3G on June 5th for VIP and June 26 for the public

Posted by uthetha ituvi
Sigh...don't you love how cellphone prices drop? The k750i has already had a slight drop in price at www.mobilefun.co.uk within a few days...now £293.95 SIM-FREE.
Also, the new black V3 with video capture is now £234.95, or £219.95 for the standard v3, both sim-free.
Brix, I know you are not a moto fan, but let me know if you are seriously considering another sim-free phone by late July...I'm flying to eKapa then and I can try and fit another new sim-free phone of your choice amongst my luggage...if you want a COD deal at CT airport. Don't worry, I won't charge any extra on any handset's advertised UK price, just the Rand/Pound exchange rate on the day I arrive.
You can imagine how much cheaper they will be then too, judging by the current trends and price drops!
No pressure, just let me know closer to the time.
Sala gahle.

Posted by brix25
@Tahir...if u guys are selling the V3 that cheap then shout it from the rooftops. @utheta: Honestly all these gadgets are tempting but I'm not buying a new phone just yet. My precious is mint condition apart from a occasionally misbehaving joystick. Will patiently be waiting till next year to buy a new phone.

Brix are right. By december ill have my k7 a year then i will go and get a new phone, at least 3G,

Posted by brix25
Almost bought an Ipod yesterday while shopping for a pair of speakers.

Posted by JK
not really a fan of the ipod its not very loud(powerful).... theres a sony(mp3) one with rubber earplugs that is flippin powerful!! and its around R600, 512 mb built in unexpandable mem....

worth buying...

Posted by brix25
@786KBR: The millions that bought the iPod didn't do so because it was powerfull but because it's stylish and very practical. I've got in excess of 100 CD's...would love to have them all up in one place.

Posted by JK
In terms of practicality the sony is much better size and looks... like 1/5th of the ipod

the ipod is only stylish coz people and micros marketing make it out to be... to me its not all that..

its just a fad...... for fashion slaves...

n im indian the thing better have power if u know what i mean...
actually bmw and mini have built in ipod recievers so yip i think i go for that if i had ne of those cars....

added to a kickass sound system!!!!

Posted by brix25
LOL@786KBR...if the bass ain't thumping it won't get played. But on a serious Apple set the trend now everyone is following them. Whether someone can make a phone with a credible music player still has to be seen. Moto were working with Apple on creating an iTunes phone, apart from showing off a converted E398 at a tradeshow early this year nothing has been heard of the joint venture.

Dagsê Swaer. Is die K750i nou al beskikbaar daar in die Homeland? Indien so, wat is die kosprys daarvoor?

Ek het myne eergister gekry as 'n gratis opgradering op my kontrak.

Goeie dag, Uncle Bob!
Welkom by esato SA!

@786KBR YES 7abolous referrs to VODAWORLD birthday today........Today is also KYLIE MINOGUE birthday

Posted by brix25
Welcome Uncle Bob... The K750 should be available initially for about R4000...quite overpriced but then there are people who'll happily pay that price. If I wanted the phone I'd wait until December for substantial price drop.

Posted by Tahir Ally
R4000 for a K750i is over priced. You rather buy a 3G phone for that price. The K750i should sell bellow R3000.@Brix if you are going to wait till DEC for the price to drop.Every MARCH SonyEricsson launches new products. Then in Dec you will say Wait for new SE products in March.March comes you will say phones are expensive. Then again you will say wait for price to drop..CANT YOU SEE THERE IS NO END IN NEW PHONES COMING OUT.

Posted by gcs001
Hi all. Finally managed 2 cnct via wap. now i can surf frm my mobile.

Posted by Tahir Ally
Gcs001 hope you are using wap via GPRS.Dial up is EXPENSIVE

Posted by gcs001
Yep. via gprs. this is the first site i could actually get in2 via my fone. not sure wot is going on, dunno whether its my k*k sp (cellc) or my fone (only got it earlier this week).

Posted by Rhino8
Probably your sp mate. Welcome, anything you want, feel free to ask.

Posted by brix25
Welcome to our newest member...gcs001. What phone are you using? @Tahir: The R4000 is just an estimate...don't take my word as the gospel. In some ways you're right about waiting for price drops but then again if a phone is good like the K700i I would happily wait even with Blokia releasing a new phone every month.

Posted by gcs001
Tx guys. using a motorola v547. still cannot get 2 other sites. 'file type not recognised' or 'page cannot be displayed' errors. any suggestions?

Posted by brix25
That's a cool phone, at least it's got EDGE but only if you're on MTN.

Posted by gcs001
yes it is pretty cool. not sure wot EDGE is but I'm with cellc.

Posted by brix25
@gcs: Get an MTN PAYG sim, get their GPRS settings sent to your phone and soon you should know what EDGE is coz you'll be connecting much faster to wap.

@Uncle Bob- Doubt you can be out of touch when there's a South African channel on Sky and half of all foreigners in London are exiles from SA.

Posted by uthetha ituvi
Oh no, Brix...
HALF of all foreigners in London are 'exiles'(LOL!)from SA?
Dig the humour, but I won't take it as the gospel
Yes, there are LOADS of SA citizens in London, and at times it does feel like half of the foreigners are from SA, BUT if you do a more in-depth analysis of the demographics of the Queen's Capital, you might be surprised...ever since some of the former Eastern Bloc countries have become members of the EU, there has been a HUGE influx of people coming here for work or to settle here, eg. from Lithuania, etc.
As for the longer established communities, the Asian population is well in excess of 1 miilion in the UK, of which a large proportion are in the east of London. The south London boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark have massive Afro-Caribbean populations too. The list goes on...
As for the SA Sky channel, it used to be on Sky channel 837 (I think) or thereabouts, but now the channels in that range are virtually all Asian channels. I never bothered with it, as I had better use for my time than watching re-runs of SA soapies etc.
However, there is a focus on African news on one of the Sky news channels, of which a large proportion is on SA news. Perhaps this is the channel you were referring to?

PS: Glad to hear you are content with your 'precious'. With the rate of cellphone technology advancements and very regular new releases, perhaps it's fair to say that anyone too infatuated with getting the latest and greatest handset as soon as they are released from all the manufacturers, will have to have money to burn, work in a cellphone shop or network,or not have much common sense. We all know that,as regards specs at least, what's out now is 'passe' in less than a year.

@utheta: It's bucketing down in CT...Lord knows we need this rain. I think the channel was NSATV...mostly re-runs and nostalgic programming for expats. On cellphones it's quite weird seeing all this craziness on Esato where some people seem to be buying a new phone every 6 months. Madness IMHO. I like new phones for my sheer interest in the technological advances made. Showed my phone off to a friend visiting from Los Angeles this week and she was awed by the fact that I had music videos on my phone.

Posted by uthetha ituvi
Hmm, did you play 'LA Woman' by 'The Doors' for her? Oh wait, I don't think Jim Morrison and co never made a music vid for that song..LOL..just joking.
Seriously though, I couldn't agree more as regards the seemingly continuous (throwing money away,IMO)'upgrading' of cellphones by some esato members, every 6 months or even less. Fair enough, each to their own and all that, but for the average Joe Public to fork out the amount of money that some do for a few extra or enhanced features does seem to defy logic at the best of times.
Not that, in the past, I have much room to talk, as I went through a stage where I went phone-crazy, until reality and common sense really hit home, when I realised how much money was squandered and what I could have bought for that money...
I've had my p900 for well over a year now, and still have no need to upgrade, as I have mentioned in previous posts.
But yes, we do love our gadgets, and the more electronic wizardry our phones can perform, the greater the obvious appeal.

Posted by brix25
@utheta: The Doors is a bit before my time but played her a hiphop video. Anyone around here using the latest Siemens S-series?

Posted by Uncle Bob
Oi, I did not even know that there were an SA channel on Sky - seeing as I dont have Sky!

Never crossed my mind to get it as I hardly ever watch TV. To be honest, the only programs I actually watch on TV is the various CSI episodes on Channel 5. O, and Top Gear on BBC1.

Other entertainment for me is to go to the cinema and watch a movie when I have the time. My work involves a lot of travelling so I dont have time to watch TV at all.

BTW is the Yebo Gogo adverts still on TV over there? I used to find them very amusing....

@ Uncle Bob,
You've probably seen or heard of the 'Orange Wednesdays' scheme, which most cinemas in the UK support.
Although I am not a big Orange fan and don't use them as my main network, I have an Orange PAYG simcard in my spare phone. As you probably know, it's a simple case of sms'ing 'FILM' to 241, and almost immediately receive an sms with a unique reference number, which you show when buying your cinema tickets, and then get 2 movie tickets for the price of 1, but as the name says, only on Wednesdays.
The sms only costs 10p.
I only use the Orange simcard for this! If you want to get your hands on an Orange PAYG sim, saak the cellphone shops..Orange simcards are currently on special for a whole whopping £1 from Orange's website. Oh, and it's free delivery.
Here's the link, if you are interested:
http://shop.orange.co.uk/shop/show/offer/freetexts

Lekker fliek!

Thanx Swaer.

Followed your advice and just bought one for a pound with free delivery within 7 days. I'll wack that sim in my kak nokia 6230 instead of throwing the thing away as my original intention was.

Waar is die Biltong?

The Yebo Gogo ads are still on tv but they've animated the two main characters. Currently they've got what looks like an animated meerkat advertising Vodafone Live.

Posted by CodeMaster
I thought the stripping meerkat ad was quite funny, the first 1 or 2 times I saw it...
