MTN new catch line "EVERY WHERE YOU GO" should come with an terms and condition apply rule.If you go some where and if you are an MTN customer and if you have no network.YOU CAN SUE MTN.And MTN only has 5 roaming partners for GPRS if you go to a country that has no MTN GPRS roaming you can SUE MTN AGAIN.What are your opinions on this new saying

Posted by brix25
LOL ...seems like Tahir is providing the laughs tonight. Who in his/her right mind will roam on GPRS? I talked about speed and you change the topic to roaming. Whenever I'm overseas just switch on sms roaming...you can send me an sms if you're desperate to get hold of me coz as it is roaming is for the wealthy due to high charges.

@Brix AGAIN i think you dont know how a 2G network works. If a 2 network is busy in a area speeds will be slower than other base stations.2G networks work on TIME SLOTS and voice and data uses the same slots so if slots are busy you will have slow connections. All base stations are link to a BSC(BASE STATION CONTROLLER) if the BSC are congested it also affects speeds. With 3G its different thats why its called WCDMA(wideband CODE division multiple access). It has unlimited capacity like a FM radio station.Eveyone listening to 1 radiostation in an area but no CONGESTION.Why.The NETWORK GENERATES A CODE FOR EVERY USER........When MTN launch 3G compare VODA with MTN.When the day comes i will remind you of what SPEED is.MTN will have 384kbs,Voda will have HSDPA which is 2mbs when launched.Gprs speeds max is 170kbs but no one gets this speed because the time slots are used up.SPEEED HUH i will remind you MR BRIX

Posted by Tahir Ally
@ Brix in my last post i did not mention that EDGE also uses slots.EDGE max speed is 256kbs but you only get about 140kbs and lower on MTN.THATS why MTN is not advertising EDGE because the speeds is some times like GPRS.I almost forgot.MTN still has no EDGE wireless modems for customers thats why they are not promoting it and another reason Vodacom 3G coverage is bigger than MTN edge and not forgeting MTN 3G which is in test phase

VODACOM............... South Africas leading cellular network.Thats the saying we were using from day one and other networks can SUE VODACOM because Vodacom is always a leader and a trend setter........Who put the words Yebo GoGo on everyones mouth.......VODACOM

Posted by Rhino8
@brix

I got almost 128kbs with MTN the other night. With voda the fastest i ever got was 20kbs. Am sure once the network upgrades are complete the speed will be greater.

Posted by brix25
I think that MTN uses only Ericsson equipment across the network makes them faster. 120kbps... Do you have the tower in your backyard? You should check your radiation levels...LOL.

Posted by Rhino8
Am not sure how it works, but when i used o2 uk gprs on roaming in sa, i got speeds of up to 140 kbs, and an average of 120?

Posted by Aalpha001
Does anyone know if MTN has launched EDGE in SA? I can't seem to find any information about this.

Posted by Rhino8
They have launched edge.

Posted by Aalpha001
Please provide more information.

Posted by zani_003
Where to get yamigo ? And wil it work on my f500i ? Pls help

Posted by Tahir Ally
To check if you have EDGE on MTN.You cell broadcast will display YELLO BROADBAND.To check if you have 3G coverage with Vodacom. You cell broadcast will display 3G enabled.

Posted by brix25
@bradboy: Unfortunately the downside of having a branded phone is that features like "My Friends" have been removed from the F500i by Vodafone. Unless you flash your phone back to the original firmware of the K500i "My Friends" and Yamigo will remain a distant dream.

check out www.yamigo.com

Dont worry Bradboy the Instant Messaging that will be launched in SA has been approved by Vodacom. The company that will launch it will have a soloution for all phones. All networks have signed agreements with this company.WITH THIS IM YOU CAN ALSO SEND IT TO NORMAL CELL NUMBERS WHICH NO OTHER IM CAN DO BECAUSE ITS A LICENCED VERSION

Posted by mario2002
Chaps,if you really want/must have instant messaging, buy yourself a 'smart phone' and install AgileMessenger for free ! I have been tested/used different programs for years now and nothing comes even close to Agile. You may find another program doing this and that better, but as a package Agile is king. Don't waste your time, learn from my experience.

@bradboy: Yamigo is not a java app it's basically an instant messaging server. Posting your number on here is not a wise idea.

Posted by Rhino8
Brad, am sure you got an MTN number in your Txt3 profile. Lol. Anyhow, dont have hours to wait for mxit to register, or to log in. And what do you mean what settings do i use?

Posted by zani_003
I mean which Smsc account u got? Smsc, telecom, etc ?couldnt connect Vodacom site via pc either

Posted by Rhino8
Am using the Txt3 global settings. They only become available once you spent 5days online. You cant see it before you got 5days. Its the best one tho.

7aboulus.Its all happening on the 28 May05

the 6630 is causing a lota shit.... in SA and abroad...!! at least i know why voda didnt want it...

apparently its too advanced and networks cant cope for sum reason...
its also the only one of its kind.... but i think nokia jumpd to far ahead and now its the 6630 has a bad reputation!!!! shame....

Posted by Rhino8
How can it be too advanced?

Posted by Tahir Ally
@786KBR.How can the 6630 be advanced when it does not even have a built in video cam for 3G.This is the main reason why Vodacom will not have it on their network. What i seen on other sites is the 6630 does not work properly on 1800mhz freq.

7abolous................3 Days left.

Posted by JK
so maybe the networks are to advanced... let me just double check...

Posted by zani_003
Who is Mtn's partner in 3g roll out?

Posted by Tahir Ally
Ericsson /// is rolling out MTN 3G networks.

Posted by Rhino8
Maybe ill stay on MTN for a while. Voda gprs works at work, but not when im at home.

Posted by mario2002
Is the F500 a smart phone ?

Posted by zani_003
No it aint man, just a vodafone branded k500

Posted by JK
Its unofficial but the K750 will be here by the 10 AUG, exactly a year after the K700!!!! actually 3 days diff..

but its not official just what iv heard but from a very reliable source...

Posted by Rhino8
Not 3G so i dont care all that much. My next phone need to be 3G,

Posted by Tahir Ally
The K750 is a good phone. It would have been better if it was 3G enabled.SonyEricsson have the best phones but by the time its launched its DATED.SonyEricsson must wake up

Posted by Rhino8
I agree with you for a change. I need a smartphone.

Posted by Tahir Ally
Vodacom now has 982 active 3G basestation thats a 1/4 of its 2g coverage. It plans to roll out another 600 by OCT05.Vodacom 3G will be almost everywhere by year end.Vodacom is the only mobile operater to have a licence to test Wimax and Wifi.It wants to become a ISP buy giving away free pc on 24months contracts..........visit www.myadsl.co.za for more info.It will compete head on with TELKOM.Visit this site and check for yourself VODACOM MEANS BUSINESS WHEN IT COMES TO MOBILE BROADBAND CONNECTION.............Vodacom never expected to roll out G so quickly

Posted by brix25
@Rhino: I'd also love a smartphone like the 9500 or the P910 but I hate the bulk, and both aren't 3G.

Posted by Tahir Ally
@Brix.Buy the Motorola A1000 smartphone when its available in SA.No other smartphone comes close to it yet+it has 3G

Posted by brix25
I know it's got 3G but honestly I can't work with Moto's UI. Me thinks the 9500 is the best smartphone currently available

Posted by Tahir Ally
@Brix i think you must visit a Vodashop that has ALL VODAFONE LIVE BRANDED HANDSETS.The store must have working samples for you to play with. When you use any brand of phone as long as it has Vodafone Live branding. You will notice one thing for sure and it is SIMPLICITY.All the phones interface are same.Vodafone Live handset interface is exactly like a SonyEricsson. If you buy the A1000 from Vodafone the menus will be the same with some enhancement. It will be easy to use

Posted by brix25
I'VE TOLD YOU BEFORE AND I'll TELL YOU AGAIN ME AND BRANDED PHONES DON'T MIX LIKE OIL AND WATER. Try that sales pitch somewhere else.

Posted by Rhino8
I will never in my life buy motorola or siemens. Nokia got 3G smart phones, not true. And i can wait a while.

Posted by JK
o well i want a k750!!!!

Posted by brix25
I like the PDA form factor unlike the 66** series which doesn't quite look right. @786KBR: I'm not @ all impressed by the K750 which is just an enhanced model. Will be interested though in the S700's successor.
