Vodacom... K700 ain't bad just SE should improve their joysticks because they become messed up quite quickly especially if you're playing lots of games using it.

Posted by Tahir Ally
HELLO TO EVERYONE:All new 3G phones that are available or to be release in future will have DRM(DIGITAL RIGHTS MANAGEMENT).What this mean is now you cannot transfer stuff via devices. This affects branded and non branded phones......So to all those people who love free stuff all i can say now is.....YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR ALL CONTENT THAT YOU PUT ON YOUR PHONES IN FUTURE........you are stuck now.

Posted by brix25
I'm so happy....and there is bound to be someone who'll hack it.

Posted by Rhino8
That sucks. Whats the use? Why do you have bluetooth then? Its useless, you need file transfer. I send ms word files to my phone via bt and then email them. You telling me that i wont be able to do that anymore.

Posted by brix25
@Rhino: Don't stress about it, DRM is way off...don't think it will be available in upcoming phones from SE, most likely 3G phones... If your phone does come with DRM there certainly will be a nerd out there willing to hack it.

Posted by Tahir Ally
YES.Any content that has royalties to pay will be protected by DRM.No more FREEBIES IN FUTURE.The reason the mobile manufactures are doing this is to increase mobile networks and their trade partners revenues.Nice if you are in a cell business HUH............Very soon coming to SA Full length movies on memory cards......DVDs will be discontinued soon

Posted by uthetha ituvi
Unless they are able to set the handset's bluetooth parameters for only pairing with eg. headsets and document/data,not media/music formats? Just a wild guess..I'm no DRM boffin.
But yes, I think there's bound to be people finding ways around the restrictions.
Totally off the topic, and you'll have to pardon my brute ignorance, but I keep seeing my number of posts on esato diminishing. I'm using different browsers at work, at home and on the p900 when I'm out, but surely this wouldn't be the cause..?
Maybe I'll have to revert to my old esato username, which the wife won't be too pleased with,(my warped sense of humour), but I know that one works fine.

Posted by brix25
@utheta: I think masseur explained in another thread that post in the regional threads and mobile-free zone don't count towards posts. My posts only recently started picking up.

Posted by Tahir Ally
@Brix all 3G PHONES will have DRM protection.Yes some nerds know how to bypass this and then everyone will know it and then something else will come out

Posted by uthetha ituvi
Thanks, brix.
If that's the case, then I'm not too fussed. Was more curious as to why it was happening.
Any phone you fancy as the successor to your precious yet? I checked out a 6680 at the carphonewarehouse after voting in the general elections here today. Nice handset, but I'm still in no rush to get 3G, despite all the additional stuff. 2G & 2.5G suits all my phone needs at this stage. The k750 is due out at CPW at the end of this month, according to their latest catalogue.

Posted by brix25
@utheta: Who you vote for? Just joking. Seriously I'm not looking at any particular phone it definitely will be 3G but won't be on Vodacom if they continue along their Vodafone live path. By next March my mind should be made up ... Thinking of Sakura might even be a Nokia.

Posted by JK
NEXT MARCH???!!

so this drm thing isnt it something like what exactmobile does..? they lock the item so it cant be sent,, even through b/t???

tahir when you say 3g phones you mean vodafone phones right???

coz iv heard through the grapevine that voda might bring in unbranded phones!!!!!

i hope they dont band b/t transfer from 2g phones!!! that will suck!!!

by the way i just filled up a 1gig mem card!!! vids games music....

Posted by brix25
By next March the dust would've settled on all this 3G excitement.3G phones will go the same way as all other consumer electronics, they start out being expensive but become cheaper with time...just think DVD players and now even DVD recorders(with built-in tv tuner) which have dropped in price to about R3000 for a good one.

Posted by Tahir Ally
@786KBR all phones in Future will have DRM protection

Posted by brix25
@Tahir: All nerds in the future will be able to hack all phones with DRM. Even Apple's iTunes DRM has been hacked

Posted by Tahir Ally
@ Brix i did say 6 posts back.Nerds will find a way over DRM

Posted by JK
MR BRIX

the prices of electronics dropped world wide and our stronger rand kinda helped... eg plasma screen 3 yrs ago sold for 70 000 now its 20 000. but any way phone prices will increase although its dropped a bit they will be more expensive like the sharp 902!!!!

Posted by brix25
@Kabir: As technology becomes entrenched in the market it becomes cheaper. Ever heard of critical mass? About a month ago Tahir mentioned prices of 3G phones like the V800 and your beloved 902, within 6 months their prices will drop and that's got nothing to do with Rand strenght. Good example is my precious...in September when it was launched it sold for about R4000 ...now you can get it on Voda for R2099...the Moto V3 has also dropped in price but at a slower rate, it's much cheaper now than it was in Nov

Posted by JK
mr brix

apart from electronics

UNLESS you can get the cost prices of phones(the price voda pays) and the bussiness strategies in which the price of handsets are sold/given away.......

then you should NOT comment my friend, what you read in the papers are not the prices of the phones...IT DOESNT SHOW the support voda gives, OR its their marketing strategies...

eg a moto v3 the price hasnt dropped dramaticly yet its on offer on weekend...

the prices dont drop!!! its the SP's way of getting rid of them therefore some phones might not drop depending on the public demand for the phone.... and if they dont sell they are discontinued ie nokia 7610!!!

Posted by brix25
LOL@Kabir...if something goes from R4000 to R2099 then what do you call that? Stop arguing and just admit that phone prices drop...and I don't think networks necessarily give them away( it's more likely for contract subs). Your V800 will drop in price come September.. And no, I'm not your friend.

Posted by JK
Ok what was the original COST price of the phone when it came out compared to when you got it.... when exactly did u get it???

and f**k you!!

Posted by brix25
...and you had to stoop that low cmon bro, stop acting like a child when someone differs from you. BTW got my precious at the end of Feb.

Posted by JK
o well, why is it that only you differ from every1 else?

you got voda phobia or sumtin...

cant wait for you to get a ntm 3g phone!!!!

I support what brix says 100 percent. You and tahir are vodacom puppets. You believe everything you are told. Voda probably makes 200 % profit on each phone.

Posted by JK
I support voda coz i honestly believe they are the cheapest and have the best service or maybe im just lucky..

my moms on mtn for 10 years and is a platinum client coz once voda declined to give her a deal she wanted..

my sis is on mtn as well coz every1 has her number and she doesnt mind paying higher prices just for her #...

she does however get jealous sumtimes coz i get what i want from voda... just coz i ask... im not baised in any way if mtn offers what i want than i will go for it!!!

its my choice and im not bound to anyone... i might just change coz in the end its my money and i choose how to spend it no one can force me and i do admit that i support voda coz i believ its the best SP in sa at the moment!!!

but who knows!

as for brix he is a bit of a negative oke, but think tahir has a part to play coz he gets on my nerves as well...

and i know some friends who have hands in mtn and yes they sometimes back voda for particular things and the fact that voda is the best...

iv got info from all sides... but respect to mtn/cell c subscribers coz they actually give some competition so voda doesnt rule, so in the end every1 plays a role and to persuade every1 to join voda would just cause them(voda) to take more advantage!!!

Posted by brix25
I've got nothing against Vodacom... I was actually one of the first people in Cape Town to make a video call when Vodacom demonstrated 3G to me in August last year.

Posted by Tahir Ally
SOME NEWS FOR THE VODAFONE LIVE HATERS:All video games made by THQ developers will have the Vodafone branding. These developer makes games for Microsoft Xbox and SonyPlaystation, etc. These games will be available via the Vodafone Live content .Visit www.cellular-news.com........ for more info.Haha Haha Haha

Posted by Rhino8
So we still dont need that games.

Posted by Tahir Ally
@Brix i see you and 786KBR were talking about prices on phones or eletronics.I can comment on phones only because thats my business.786KBR is correct in saying prices depends on demand and our currency.Do you own survey from tomorrow.Last month Vodacom was giving away the D500 free on weekender package but as of tomorrow is going to be R199 cash on the same package. The V800 was Free on business package last month from tomorrow it will be R199 cash on business package.I am selling more D500 than any other SAMSUNG.Has of tomorrow the price of the E600 is going to drop drastically. The price on the E600 only drop after 10 months because everyone is buying D500.If our rand looses value prices on phones do go up because phones are not made in SA........@Brix you said you will never buy a Vodacom 3G phone if its VODAFONE BRANDED and will only buy 3G from MTN next year MARCH.By next year Vodacom will have 3g coverge everywhere in SA.MTN will be 8 months behind in coverage

Posted by brix25
786KBR was arguing a stupid point when I said mobile phone prices were dropping after a certain time. @Tahir...sorry to burst your bubble but the best mobile games publisher is Gameloft...not THQ.

Posted by Tahir Ally
@Brix i did not say THQ is the best all I said there games will have VODAFONE LIVE branding.Looks like your bubble is burst and you cant see what i posted.HaHa HaHA HaHa

Sim-free handsets, thus autonomous of direct network marketing strategies, are another classic example of prices dropping. I have bought 4 sim-free handsets from www.expansys.com and 2 from www.mobilefun.co.uk. Visit these sites regularly and watch the prices of the SIM-FREE handsets drop every few weeks. Expansys always quotes the amount of specific handsets in stock, which makes it a bit easier to check if they have got a cheaper consignment by replenishing their stocks, or just reducing the profit margins and therefore price, as the new handsets become more and more dated after each month and demand drops as newer handsets begin emerging.
If I look at how much money I lost on 2 of the handsets (6670 and black v3) when they came out, to what they cost 2 months later, it does kinda make me feel sick. That's the nature of the beast, I guess.
An example: Nokia's new 6230i SIM-FREE costs £214.95 from www.mobilefun.co.uk at the mo, last week it was £229.95 and last month it was around £249!
Hmm, methinks cellphone prices droppeth...

Posted by Tahir Ally
@utheta What do you think of Vodafones latest offering.Im talking about talk for 1hr but only pay for 3min offering. This is only for offpeak time and is available for both contracts and prepaid customers.

Posted by uthetha ituvi
@ Tahir,
Yeah, the 'Stop The Clock' promotion that you are mentioning is pretty damn good, particularly from a PAYG persective, and as you also correctly mentioned, is available for contract as well.
Unfortunately I make most of my calls during peak times. Because of this, Vodafone UK is just way too expensive for my needs. If I was a frequent off-peak caller, it would be FANTASTIC.
Another example: Vodafone smatstep or smartplus charge 35p per minute to other networks during peak times and 12p per sms.
With easymobile it's 15p cross-net and 7p per sms,
or Tesco (Pommie version of Pick n' Pay), using O2's reception, charge 20 per minute flat rate and 10p per minute flat rate to your fave 3 numbers.
There is also a lot of PAYG promotions at the moment, eg. Orange are doing their Prepay Repay scheme, where they give £5.00 credit for every £10 you spend at the moment, or O2 with their online PAYG special, getting either 300 sms's for £10 or 100 minutes x-net for £10...not too shabby, hey?
But yes, the Vodafone promotion comes at a good time when there are so many UK networks with cheap PAYG promotions. It certainly is a massive bargain..let's hope it lasts.

Posted by Tahir Ally
@utheta Did you know that Pick n Pay SA has shares in Tesco....I dont know what will happend if STOP THE CLOCK promotions happends in SA.Currently Vodacom SA is running a promotion called Night Call which was running since DEC 05.Its the Cheapest rates on a mobile network in SA during offpeak time. This promo will end at the end of May.Maybe Vodacom might bring STOP THE CLOCK to SA.I hope

Posted by uthetha ituvi
@Tahir,
Ya, even the Tesco packets/carrier bags look the same, with the trademark vertical blue stripes etc!
I see what you mean regarding Night Talk..only 80c a minute from 10pm. A pity the end is nigh(t!) for this promotion.
I think I'll get another Vodacom simcard when I'm on holiday in July, then I can register it on vodacom4me and get those lovely 20 free sms'ses a day, sent from a pc!
My nephew is also in the UK now and sms's his girlfriend in CT from his pc here in the UK, using the vodacom4me sms's.

Posted by Tahir Ally
@utheta In Sweden VODAFONE call rates to any network is the same price as a fix line.Thats Cheap. It will be nice if Vodafone has the same promos in all there partner networks

Posted by Rhino8
The promo Sounds good, but i dont see that happening while telkom owns part of voda. But then, i might be wrong, I HOPE IM WRONG this time round

Posted by brix25
@Tahir: Good one but Hellkom will never allow it. One of the cons of Vodafone not owning the network. BTW...used MTN's GPRS last night and it was fast as lightening.

Posted by JK
no way!! me too, very fast... dont think any one here is using mtn data! coz on voda its damn slow!!

Posted by Rhino8
Am also using Yello data at the moment. And voda neva been this fast. Or at least not as constant as MTN. Voda got its speedy times but not like this.

Posted by JK
ITS ACTUALLY bad coz when u want just link to another page, the initial page is already loaded and you charged for dowlouding all the crap you dont want
... good for mtn's profits... slow is sometimes good...

they should make sumtin like a NOS button if you want a page to download faster!!!

Its already loaded wiv voda too, unless you stop it. I like speed, especially when chatting. You guys should try http://txt3.net for chat, and free sms.

Posted by brix25
LOL@786KBR and his suggestion of a NOS button for GPRS. Will try to download a full-length music video today ...usually it takes me about 4 minutes with Voda. Want to really test MTN's speed.

Posted by Rhino8
4min and how many meg is it

Posted by brix25
Not more than 3Meg.

Posted by JK

Posted by brix25
