congratulations on completing 1000 posts..

Please stop this crap... theres only a couple things brix can do... buy branded voda phone or mtn branded phone... or he can buy cheaper phones that werent worth branding!!!! its his choice...

he doesnt buy tahir and vodas marketing..but he is obviously gona have a bad impression on voda just becoz of other members on esato!!!

and one more thing... cell companies dont care about me or you or the other technical cellphone users.... its for the masses and what they want and need!

in the end they want to sell phones and contracts thats all!!

Posted by brix25
@mamba: Were u standing around all this time without making your voice heard? What kind of Nigerian are you? BTW congratulations to all the regulars on our thread reaching this milestone.Just heard that SE won't allow the upcoming W800i to be branded. My next phone will be 3G but I won't be forced to use Voda if they persist with branding their 3G handsets, will switch over to any other network and keep my old phone number due to number portability.

Posted by Tahir Ally
@ Brix. You still have to learn alot. The W800i is NOT A 3G PHONE and number porting is not as easy as you think. In number porting the networks have to decide if they will put your number on their network

Posted by CodeMaster
Just gotta say that i love my V800, but after seeing pics of the Z800 firmware, my V800 will be changing to a Z800 as soon as my T28 cable arrives. Why worry about branded phones? Just keep buying SE, they are the easiest to unlock and de-brand. On a side note for All MTN users, my dad just ordered his P910i. FREE on PROCALL120. If i had known, i might have changed to MTN. Anyway, converted another Blokia user anyway :)

Posted by Tahir Ally
@ codemaster. When you debrand your phone you will LOOSE your warranty on your phone.

Posted by CodeMaster
After 10 yrs of using cell phones, I have never ONCE needed a warranty claim on any of my phones.

The only time I have needed a repair, was after my GF slammed my Blokia 2110i in the boot sill of my car.

So check the worry in my eyes about loosing my warrant

How much can a repair cost anyway? That is if it is even covered by a warranty...

Posted by brix25
LOL@Tahir: Don't think MTN/Cell C will turn me away if I want to sign up with my old Voda number. I think I absolutely love SE, the only other brand I might go for a Blokia...but with loads of hesitation.

Posted by Tahir Ally
@ Brix. Its not has easy as it sounds. But i can't wait for it to come.It should be available in NOV05

Posted by brix25
In the US you can have your landline number as your mobile number and vice versa...that's the magic of deregulation. In many ways Telkom is protected by stupid laws that are in actual fact detrimental to the growth of our economy. That's just my two cents.

Posted by Rhino8
Ppl should just say mo to branded phones. The network, or manufacturer that gives unbranded phones will be the market leader in the future.

Posted by JK
BRIX would u rather go to mtn just because of branding u hevent even used!!!!!????.......and pay more on a network with signal and network problems as bad as mtn??? mtn is also getting sued for 70 mill for licencing fees.... they are also never gona keep up with voda....

just because you want a special phone!! some people...

good luck it will be nice to read your whining post about mtn in the future..

Posted by brix25
@786KBR: I'm a former MTN subscriber...never had problems with my signal, perhaps only when I was driving through a mountain pass. If I choose to change it won't be necessarily be back to Y'ello...it all depends which network gives me the best deal...that's freedom of choice. People like Tahir puts potential subscribers off 3G because he rambles as if Vodafone Live is the be all and end all of mobile telecoms. He also conveniently forgets to mention that some features like My Friends are removed.

As regards the number porting issue...
I can only speak of my experiences of number porting in the UK, thus have no idea if it will be similar or not with the SA networks, but I don't see why it should be different.
In total, I have have had EIGHT different numbers ported for either friends and/or family, from most of the different UK networks.
Firstly, whether you are on PAYG or contract(once the minimum year contract is up), you have the right to request and receive your PAC number (Porting Authorisation Code). They can only refuse if there is any breach of contract issues or money owing etc., & some request that you request only after a month since your first PAYG call, eg. Tesco or 02. I have ported two contract numbers and 6 PAYG.
Some of the UK networks give it to you within 48 hours, but MOST eg. Virgin, Orange, Vodafone etc. can usually give it to you straight away.
THERE IS NO CHARGE FOR THIS!!!(Well, in the UK anyway..)
The PAC number is made up of 3 letters followed by 6 digits.
You then give this to your new network and the transfer then takes between 5 to 10 working days to do, depending on network. If you are on PAYG, you need to ensure that your old simcard's credit is used up before the date of transfer, or you'll lose any credit that was on it...credit cannot be ported!
I know some of these facts are not news to some of you, but hope it explains things re how it is done, even if it is from a UK networks perspective...

And Tahir makes it out to be some rocket science:-)

Posted by Rhino8
I used to know someone like tahir once. A mr know it all. No offence mate, but you need to get a life. You are so drawn up in vodacom that you just dont see anything else. Now please, the info you give us on here are fine, but just stop living vodafone, we are all getting sick and tired of it.

Now thats my 2 cents worth.

A few weeks back I have asked a few buddies in this forum (and others) if they are interested to exchange IM addresses with me.Just about all who could access the IM service from their cellphones agree.Only one denied. No comment :-) and greetings to all from a sunny Jeffreysbay.

Forgot to mention:
when you receive your PAC number, it is valid for 30 days. Should you not give the PAC number to any other network within this time, it will expire. You would thus remain on the network you were trying to leave...your simcard will just carry on working on that network as normal. (unless you have terminated your contract.) You would then have to contact your network again and receive a new PAC number. There is still no charge.
Again, this pertains to UK network procedures.
It really IS that easy to port numbers!

On Yamigo it's brix25 and on MSN it's craggybits.

Posted by Tahir Ally
@Brix you said in your previous post that you will go to a network for 3g that gives you the best deal and you where also complaining about signal.Vodacom 3G coverage will be beter than anyone because we have a 6 month lead.As always Vodacom always lead

Posted by brix25
LOL ...read that post and see where I complained. I'll wait and see what MTN/Cell C have got to offer...until then your zealous devotion to Vodacom will be ignored.

Posted by JK
I know Tahir is full of himself and shit...

personally, my sis has a mtn and theres always some shit with mtn especially upgrades!!!...

mtn with their own 3g??? id be very sceptical with their own 3g abilities.... as for cell c... iv heard sumting about virgin buying them and if so it could be somthing new to think about otherwise cell c is worthless!!!

Yesterday I saw someone using a Vodafone-branded Blackberry- the one that looks like a phone. Asked him his thoughts on the generic UI and he said he was still getting to grips with it. The device looked a bit bulky though but the screen was nice and bright. How about someone gives us a proper review.

Posted by JK
my review of what i know...the 7100v its a more phone(calls) type of blackberry where as the other one 7290 is a more email type phone...

only played with a 7290.

bad points no mp3, no camera, but they will improve and voda will get 3g blackberries as well...

the one thing i like is that it has up to 2 weeks batt life!!!!!!!!!! with lots of use and lotsa calls...!!!!

Posted by brix25
What about a review of your V800...and thoughts on the Vodafone UI...any thoughts given to perhaps flashing it to a Z800?

I'm going to need a new SA simcard in July, when I'm back in Mama Afrika for a month or so. There's no ways I'm using my UK sim when in SA due to the obvious expenses.
When I last flew down to SA,my old UK network, T-Mobile, automatically switched to MTN roaming when I switched the cellphone back on at Jhb International.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember a certain chain store renowned for their very cheap clothing were selling Cell C simcards for very little money.
I just want to get a simcard PURELY for calling for that month. Would Cell C be my best bet?

Posted by brix25
Pep Stores is selling all starterpacks for something like R5.

Posted by uthetha ituvi
Fantastic!PEP STORES HOW ARE YOU!!!!LOL!!!
Tks for the info, brix.

Posted by Tahir Ally
The best sim card you can buy on the Vodacom network is the Vodacom 4U simcard. It retails for R39.It gives you R25 worth of airtime and 2 years service to the Vodacom network + you get per second billing from the 1st second.

Posted by brix25
LOL@Tahir... He's only here for a couple of weeks, doubt he'll need a 2 year airtime window.

Posted by Tahir Ally
Ya OK but you still have to buy airtime on cheap sim cards and it only save you about R5.For R5 more you are getting more

Posted by Tahir Ally
MTN WILL BE BRANDING ALL THERE HANDSETS.But no branding on phone covers but it might come in future

Posted by uthetha ituvi
It seems I can change tariffs on Cell C's PAYG whenever I like, free for the first time & a whole whopping R1.80 after that.
According to Vodacom's website, I can change only once a month, although there is no charge.
As I will be on holiday, I could select the Cell C flat-rate tariff during peak times and benefit from the off-peak costs at night.
It won't be a hassle to change the tariff each day of my holiday....I guess I must just remember to do this!
Gee, I'm a bit of a frugal bugger! I guess its just my penchant for avoiding being ripped-off, if I can help it.
Vodacom may have more features and services, but these are not what I require for a month on holiday.
All our needs are different...that's why I'm such a champion for choice.

Posted by Tahir Ally
If you are going to use GPRS on Cell C.Just remember they are going to charge you R40 a meg.Vodacom and MTN chargers you only R2.00 a meg.Vodacom does have a package throught the day you pay R2.70 a minute thereafter every minute is R1.55.This package is called SMARTSTEP.About 11million South African prepaid customers choose Vodacom.......Yebo GoGo

Posted by Tahir Ally
You must come down for Vodacom Durban July. Its Africa greatest horsing event. It happens on the 1st Saturday of every July. This year it falls on the 3rd July 05.

Posted by uthetha ituvi
Oh no, not the Duban July!!!(Hmm, I see Vodacom is advertising it on their site too, Tahir...)
The only thing remotely interesting about the Durban July (for me)is some of the wacky fashions people parade around in at SA's premier horseracing event, hoping the tv cameras might just notice them.
Personally, I couldn't give a flying monkey's about horseracing in general. Perhaps if I was a betting man I might have somewhat more of an appreciation for it.
I'd rather watch the SA cricket team on Sky Sports trying to climb the world rankings again after doing a lot better in the West Indies lately...I am still very (proudly) South African.
Tks for the info anyway,Tahir. Co-incidently(?), Vodafone UK also have a PAYG option called Smart Step...

This evening saw an ad by Vodacom for the Vodafone-branded Sharp GX30(?) which is going for R999...nice and cheap... I'm expecting it to be much cheaper in a couple of months.

Posted by JK
My dear Brix..

phones get cheaper when a better one comes out.
the way i see it u gonna wait for the price to drop then when you want to buy it there will be something better!! then you gona wait for that to drop to...... then .....???!!!

o and guy who wants starter pack... if you in jozi... super 6 starter packs are 49c!!!! if you find something cheaper go for it... doubt you will!!

@tahir ..the mtn blackberry has branding on the cover.

has anyone seen the new voda ad, with that cat???? so funny...

Posted by uthetha ituvi
49c?!
Where in Jozi are they going for 49c? What shops? Are they readily available all over Jhb at that price? I'm not gonna have time to search all over from Braamfontein to Mondeor, or from Roodepoort to Benoni for that matter.

Posted by JK
VODAWORLD...

couple weeks ago it was 1c..!!
4u starters are R10 and you get R25 airtime, that will be a better option...

Posted by brix25
@786KBR: Don't think there's anything special about the GX30...Good luck to anyone who buys it...it just looks too cheap like one of those low-end Moto's.

Posted by Tahir Ally
Sharp phones are cool.I played around with a few.I felt it easy to use because it was Vodafone branded. The Vodafone Live Add is cool.

Posted by Tahir Ally
Hows is the weather in mother city MR Brix

Posted by brix25
Ignore my earlier references to the Sharp GX30... It should've said the Sharp GX15. Saw the specs on gsmarena.com nothing to write home about...it's only got 1.5MB of memory.

Posted by Tahir Ally
The only problem Vodacom has with the new 64K sim card is that it not available to prepaid customer and for those contract customer who converted from prepaid to contract. This problem will be fixed SOON
