Posted by Atlis
Same question... Isn't it a joke? :-l

Posted by vineet_d
Ok just tell us if it will be a smartphone or just other k700 or s700 types

Posted by iam123456mail
J200 and T290.

Posted by FISKER_Q
Yeah i want a Smartphone as well, i don't think the big price on the Px00/P910 is justified. But then again it's due to operators not seing a market in it.

So if they made one with cool features i might consider one.

Sony Ericsson enhances entry-level product range with addition of two new phones
October 25, 2004, Beijing – Sony Ericsson today announced two new phones for Practical phoners of all ages. Practical phoners are a discerning group that seek out well-designed, quality, no-nonsense products from trusted brands but, don’t need the full feature-set of a top-of-the-range phone because their predominant communications style is voice.

The first of these phones, the J200, is targeted mainly at the China and Asia Pacific markets and will be available during the last quarter of 2004. The second, the T290, will be launched in the same region early in 2005, in time for the traditional gift giving of the Chinese New Year, and then be available globally during the first quarter.

“J200 and T290 are feature rich entry-level phones with the same classic, elegant styling that you can see right across the Sony Ericsson product range,” said Jan Wäreby, Corporate Executive Vice President & Head of Sales and Marketing. “The customers who will buy these phones are looking for quality, simplicity and value-for-money. They typically make voice calls and use SMS text messaging to communicate extensively with friends and family. Independent small businesses may also be attracted to them as a cost-effective way of keeping in touch with customers whilst on the move.”

The J200 has a curved and sophisticated appearance and appealing colour range. It offers easy talking and easy messaging, all on a 4K colour screen (128 x 128 pixels). Its slim, classic design includes an easy to use joystick for simple navigation and SMS text messaging with predictive text input. The J200 also features a large phone book with up to 200 entries, calendar, alarm clock and a 40 tones polyphonic ringer, with an additional speaker for loud and clear ringtones, even on the street.

The T290’s small size, large phonebook, MMS messaging in colour and sturdy styling will also be attractive to the practical phoner segment but appeal more to the young and those looking for a value-for-money phone to support their own private business. The T290 value-for-money packages includes a 32 tones polyphonic ringer with additional speaker, 4K colour screen, an additional speakerphone for conference calls in private or professional use and fast SMS text messaging with predictive text input on a clear and ergonomically designed keypad.

The J200 and T290 will be available in the following versions:

J200i, Triple-band 900/1800/1900
J200c, Triple-band 900/1800/1900 for China
T290i, Dual-band 900/1800
T290c, Dual-band 900/1800 for China
T290a, Dual-band 850/1900 for Americas

i wish it was a t650
using a friends k700i for 2 days now and i hate it except for its imaging
im goin back to my beloved t630 until se unvails the t650!

Posted by Ibinco
ehuuuuu It was about time we had some new SE handsets announced, now we've got something to look forward 2.

Posted by tranquil
No pics yoet but here are the features:

Posted by kooki
do u think that there will be a t650?

Posted by Ibinco
Specs are not exactly out of this world. But i could use another backup, backup, backup, backup low end phone.

Posted by vanquish
the t650 is the k700i

we are moving forward man!

but these phones just sound like t300's with better screens!

hmmmmm

Posted by SnowBear
buuuu what is that !!! sound like a realy bad phone/s buuu

Posted by mustafabay
I knew the J would be back, heck the Z did. At least they have radios to bad the K500 didn't. But the screens are too small the J200 is 128*128 and what's with T290 shouldn't it have been K200? the T series is supposed to be dead ????? And the amount of memory sucks both have less than the T230 which only has 700 KB or something.
I'm dissapointed, oh and no camera??????????????

Posted by vineet_d
Wow now i guess these are good entry level phones imo

Posted by vanquish
@snowbear

they are the new entry level phones, like the t230, like the t300

they will probably be priced around 60 pounds

because you can get the t610 for 90 so they shouldnt be more than that!

btw

its for people that cant be bothered with messing around i.e. mp3s and video and shit, and just want a neat little colour phone to use

BTW

I AM DYING WITH THE AGONISATION OF WHAT THESE PHONES ARE TOO LOOK LIKE!

THE ANXIETY

AAAGGGHH!

What's it with Irda but no MMS then no Irda but MMS its almost like Samsung C100 and X100

Posted by tranquil
I've been searching like mad here for pictures of those two phones but with no luck.
Anyone out there feeling more lucky than me today?

Posted by iam123456mail
Both J200 and T290 do not have built-in radio. You have to attach the radio accessory to listen to FM radio.

Posted by slattery69
theres pic on the site just if you click on them nothing happens. both look nothing special a bit like the t230 in looks only fatter.
if there cheap ie under 70 gbp i am sure they will do ok but if se does its usual trick and has them out over priced to start with ie over 100 gbp they will flop.

Posted by mustafabay
Does it come bunddled with the phone or is it purchased seperately?

it's simply trying to balance features with selling price. it's impossible to provide a complete set of features for the low-end market, otherwise you would price yourself out of the market. but by providing two choices for that segment, low-end customers should be able to choose a model that meets their needs and their budgets.

Posted by vineet_d
wtf i guess stereo FM Radio in both the models is not a standard feature, u have to get the accessory for that

Posted by mustafabay
the T290 is up on sonyericsson.com with pictures

Posted by McKinley
Don't forget this all people who find those handsets poor. Main customers are these people who are looking for quality, simplicity and value-for-money. Do this kind of people exist today?

Posted by mustafabay
A great color screen, J200 ?? what are the thinking??

Posted by plasmadog
the one thing i hoped for was the 65k colour screen. but it looks like neither phone has it.

Picture of the T290

Posted by mustafabay
Well I still have a J70 but would I buy one of these? No, I'll just suffer for a while longer and hopefully be able to afford the Z600. Why even bother with the T290, its just a different colour T230 basically.

Picture of J200i

Enjoy

@Must, agree with you. But j200i has a different look.

It's a black T230...

Posted by mustafabay
@semo where did you get that one? Its :puke:

Posted by semo
It is a T230 photo, but negative (for comparison with T290)

Posted by DeLa
Finally some decent budget phones!

The J200 looks really good, especially the white one. Very clean, no-nonsense look, nicely balanced and with some details that set it apart (like the 'grille' on the speaker on the front). Excellent job.

T 290 a bit less. J200 would sell extremely good here.

Don't forget the "masses" that only care about calling and texting and having a nice phone. They now have a T100 and will now get a j200.

Posted by Krubach
Everyone is complaining about the lack of features etc...
This is an entry phone fer christ sakes!
If priced right, it'll sell like hot cakes.

Posted by Skrue
here are the pics of the j200i:

Posted by Ibinco
They look nice.. ideal backup phone!

Posted by semo
@DeLa
Where did you find a white J200?

I agree, the 'grille' on the speaker is nice and the upper part too.
But I'm tired of seeing the same lower part look on SE fones.
They could have extended the plastic around the screen to the keypad too.
The T600 looks better IMO

Posted by DeLa
Well the more I look at it the more it looks like a T600-II. The design of the T600 was the first revelation of how SE would draw the line from E///... the chrome look around the keypad is what makes the T600 look expensive in comparisin to this version.

The white is on the site and has been posted above

Posted by semo
The white one is actually quite nice looking

Posted by Skrue
@Dela - u're ryt, it does remind me of the t600, though jus a lil bit

Posted by Spawney
urgh.

Theyre the worst SE phones iv'e seen. But for an Entry Level phone then its erm okish...

i know but still .. i say work to get the prize down on better phones instead of making new cheep phones

Posted by c96sthl
well it might be the first low end phone with 12MB memory.

this might be the first phone from SE to target on mass market just like Nokia 3 series.

Well finally they want to get market share after enjoying very high ARPU.

Posted by mustafabay
Come to think of it the J200 is just a candybar Z200 afterall they are the only without MMS.
If it had MMS I would think of it, I still use my J70 so staying with a J would have been nice.

Posted by thanasis
Finally SE manages to release at 3310 style phone for the masses. If the price is right then this phone could be a best seller. The design for once is plain yet stylish and will appeal to a lot of people that one a simple cheap good looking phone
