Some people are calling this new phone from Tu-ka "too simple," but I think they're wrong. There's no such thing as "too simple," as long as a device can carry out the functions for which it is meant.
From a convenience standpoint, though, I'd at least ask for a damn LCD. This new Kyocera phone doesn't have one.
The three companies of the Tu-ka Group will release the "Tu-ka S" phone in the middle of November that is intended for simple operation. The price with a new contract is said to be under 5,000 yen.
This new "Tu-ka S" is a Kyocera phone for talking only. It does not feature and LCD display. The name of the phone means "the ultimate simple terminal," and is designed to be "a phone so simple it doesn't need an instruction manual. Furthermore, it has been assigned the "TK50" product code.
The body has number keys, talk/hang up keys, and a slide-switch for turning the power on and off. The signal strength and battery life are displayed using LEDs, where simply lighting up means "satisfactory," flashing means "weak," and not lighting up at all means "roaming" or "no battery."
The size of the phone is 48 x 121 x 18mm (W x H x T), and it weighs 87g. The continuous talk time is 240 minutes, but the continuous idle time is around 840 hours. The only body color will be silver.

Very daring.
This phone has an aura of piece and rest around it that is appealing.
An LCD would break the spell. Any other function would actually.

No, the absence of sms is crucial!
This is a phone for people that just want to talk.
There is even not a phonebook as far as I can tell.
Any other feature like sms is one to many, requires setup, the keys would not be simple with only the number on it...
I think there is a large public for this phone, even though if I had to decide to put it on the market i would not be sure that I could make money with it.
There are enough phones that do talking and sms and that are simple. This one is one step further. I think that even the first GSM-mobiles weren't that simple.

The first thing you learn when you call is that every phone has a number. Punch that in et voila.
All the rest may seem handy but is in fact the first step to complicated.

That is not acceptable! Even technophobes will want want see what phone number they have entered (or whos calling) so they dont call (or answer irrelevant calls) the wrong person! I think technophobes can stand a small display without being too worried. A Nokia 1100 is how a "simple phone" should be!

i think this'll work well as a public telephone.. like in remote villages where they need access to telephones for a large community.
also, people who just use mobiles for incoming calls only would find it useful.

i think if you dial numbers reguarly you will be able to remember them easy enough. these days with phonebook memory i cant remember ANY number,not even my brothers and i ring/text him at least once a day but on the other hand i can still remember a landline number from an ex from 10/11 years ago!
