hi! anyone here from the philippines?
would just like to ask.. how safe it is to buy a reconditioned phone (these are brandnew phones, but doesn't pass the quality section control of manufacturers)...in the philippines, they're quite amass.
i wanted to buy a smaller and simple phone, as a back-up, and thinking about getting a nokia 8890. however, they don't sell around here a new one, except for those "reconditioned" ones..i dont wanna buy a second hand 'cause they might also be defective...=(
thanks! cheers!

@jeremy chua - Glad to have you here mate - kabayan! Well speaking from experience, I never have dealt in buying me a brand new-reconditioned fone mate . . . I always go for the 2nd hand ones, though I have a constant shop that I frequent in the Alabang area, after acquring almost 25 2nd hand fones from that shop, honestly, I haven't experienced not even one which has a problem on it pal . . . If ever, you can always buy 2nd hand units-Nokia 8890 from reliable sources, like from friends or relatives. I also frequent reading the Buy and Sell tabloid, out twice a week (Tuesdays and Fridays), as I have also sold some of my items there - Ebay of the Philippines, though in print media! As what I have heard, the recon units have inferior parts, so, it is more likely that the recon units will bog down before the original 2nd hand ones? The Nokia 8855 is a nice collection/fone to have as well mate - consider! Good Luck!

thanks for the reply mate!
maybe you're just to lucky to find phones in good condition! i know a friend who usually bought 2nd hand phones from buyandsell, but unfortunately, they all ended up crap...=( that's why i'm avoiding 2nd hand phones... anyway, maybe i'll just get an sl55, though this is not tri-band...=(
thanks mate!

@jeremy.chua-Good luck mate with your choice here . . . Is the sl55 model fone you are looking here is an old Siemens fone model, the one which has it's very 1st release fone with MP3? My apologies if I got it wrong here dude . . .

Uhm... just to let you know... that reconditioned BS... is just that..BS. A reconditioned phone IS a 2nd hand phone. Regardless of what those stores tell you. They usually just buy a new case for it. And the whole "It didn't pass QC standards" should already trip a warning bell... if it didn't pass... then what's wrong with it? If it goes bad... then what?
The thing is, you really are better of with a real 2nd hand phone from a user. Well, at least with SE phones.
But my thing is, if you're willing to take the risk... then go ahead with the "reconditioned units". Just be aware that these are also 2nd hand. And now knowing that, you should be able to make a more informed decision for yourself, and your needs!

@oliblurr - Oh yeah, it was the SL45 and not the SL55 . . . It's not the King Kong battery brand

It would really be much wiser to be a 2nd hand phone from an actual user than from the shops selling them as "reconditioned" phones. I had a couple of "dead" nokias before where a shop bought them for a few hundred pesos. I asked what they did with dead phones and they get daw the working parts and transplant them to another phone. Talk about chop chop phones!

i would suggest buying a 2nd hand fone rather than reconditioned fone.
just be sure to buy 2nd hand fones from reliable source like
lethal_cassanova
jojo
vtr
chris725
el_pogi
etc
or you may also visit other website for 2nd hand or brand new phones
like
ebili.com
buyandsellplus.com.ph
anyway you will test it first before buying the unit, like test if the
mic is working
speaker is working
keys are all working
or buy a 2nd hand unit with warranty
but please dont buy reconditioned units for the love of PHONES... dont buy reconditioned units

@lethal_cassanova - I totally agree with your last post there . . . of buying a 2nd hand original celfone rather than a reconditioned one ! Is the 'Jojo' you posted there pertains to . . . me? Well, yes, I used to sell and post here some of my fones back there, but as of press time, only @jack02 managed to buy my old T39mc spare covers. My SE K700i was bought by an outsider from Makati . . . maybe one of these days will be able to trade fones or sell at that manner - @lethal_cassanova!

Great thing about SE phones is they have a test menu under the service menu... at least for a quick test, you can test the display, vib, speaker, mic, and lights.
