A friend of mind is going to SoCal and will be borrowing my K700 for the journey.
I know it'll work and all that so my question is basically; How common is the K700 in Southern California?
She is a bit concerned about getting too much attention over there if she brings a phone that nobody has hardly ever seen.

People here don't care that much about other people's phones. I'm not from California so I could be wrong, but I don't think she'll get stopped on the street and asked where she got her phone.
Tell her to get an old Nokia 8290 if she is that worried about it.

She might get a little attention. But I've seen people out here with P900s, s700s, MPXs and v3s. It's not that big of a deal. She'll be ok.

She is going to the area around Venice Beach I think.
Hot or not...
She is a very good friend of mine

Venice Beach huh? Yeah, lots of celebrities tend to hang out there so her phone will "blend" in...

Thanks, I bet she will feel a whole lot better after having read this topic...

Bet she will. Will she be using prepaid out there?

That I don't know.

If she does, tell her to use T-Mobile's or Cingular's.. I think AT&T uses the 850 mhz GSM network in California.

I have a P900, nobody has any idea what it is. If they do (1 out of 100 people) they just say nice phone. I live in san diego

I'm all over the place (from LA to Orange to Riverside/San Bernardino Counties and Las Vegas). I've used the Moto a630, Nokia 6620 and SE s700i while on the road and few people notice. It's not a big issue unless she bumps into a techie..

You can use Cingular too since they built the 1900mhz frequency that T-Mo's on!
Which ever you think is best between those two, go for it.
