Hope these help you out. Mail me if you find an error or have a question:

These instructions will help you:

* Configure the T39 handset to work with GPRS (very similar to T68)
* Optionally connect via Bluetooth to your T39 using Toshiba's Bluetooth PC Card
* Configure Windows XP to use your T39 as a modem via IR or Bluetooth
* Configure a Windows XP Network Connection entry to use your device and its GPRS capabilities
* Create a dialup connection that uses GPRS

(Note that the settings for XP are very similar to those for Windows 2000.)

Install Ericsson T39 Desktop Software
============================
The T39 comes with a CDROM labelled "Communication Software, Mobile Phone T39". Insert the CDROM into your PC. The installation should run automatically. If it does not, then use File Explorer to browse to the CDROM and click on "start.exe" to commence the installation.

Install all the sofftware to your PC.

Proceed to the next step

Configure Ericsson T39 for Bluetooth
============================*
* Make sure your phone has power
* Selecct Menu > 4. Settings > Data Comm > 1. Data Accounts > Add Account
* Select "GPRS Data". Press "Yes".
* Enter a name (something logical you will remember later – I entered “RogersGPRS”). Press "Yes".
* Enter the APN (typically something like "internet.com"). Press "Yes".
* Enter the User name for the APN (Rogers AT&T is “wapuser1”) Press "Yes".
* Enter the Password for the APN (Rogers AT&T is “wap”). Press "Yes".
* Scroll to "Save" and press "Yes".

To Use Windows XP Dial Up Connection over Bluetooth to T39 via Toshiba
Bluetooth Card
=====================================================
(OPTIONAL. if you don't have a PC Bluetooth card like Toshiba's, skip to the next step. You can still connect via IR)
These instructions are for the Toshiba Bluetooth Card with DigiAnswer drivers. For Windows XP, you will need the DigiAnswer 1.08 drivers, available from the support and download site at www.btsws.com/drivers/default.asp. (If the link to the left has expired, try www.digianswer.com, and follow the links to the Bluetooth Software Suite, then to the Drivers Section. Select the link to Windows 2000 and download the driver files. Install these to your desktop.

Install the Toshiba software suite shipped with the Bluetooth Card. Once complete, you should have the Bluetooth Network Neighbourhood icon on your desktop, and a link to the Start Programs Bluetooth Software Suite v1.01 Bluetooth Configuration Tool. Make sure you can find these.

* Start > Programs > Bluetooth Software Suite v1.01 > Bluetooth Configuration Tool
* Under the "Bluetooth COM Ports" list, select “COM12 Digianswer Virtual COM Port”
* Ensure that in the "Associated Profiles" pane, Serial Port Profile is selected
* Click "OK" to close.

Verify you can establish a Bluetooth connection with your phone as
follows:
* From your Desktop, open the Bluetooth Network Neighbourhood
* Insert your Toshiba Bluetooth Card into your PC
* Enable the Bluetooth Transmitter using the little black "pawn" icon in your System Tray.
* Activate Bluetooth on your T39 ( Menu > Extras > 5. Bluetooth > 1. Discoverable )
* From the Bluetooth Network Neighbourhood, press F5, or from the menu, select "Bluetooth Device Discovery”. Make sure your laptop can discover your phone. It should appear in the Network Neighbourhood window with the name you gave the phone when you configured it for Bluetooth. Won’t bother helping you there because it's in your T39 manual.
* From the Local Services bar on the left side of the Bluetooth Network Neighbourhood window, select COM12 (which should appear there if you have completed the earlier step with the Bluetooth Configuration Tool correctly) and drag that icon over to the icon for your phone in the Neighbourhood window. Your devices should try to connect with each other. When prompted, select either Serial port 1 or 2. I haven't found a reason why it matters yet. Lightning bolts will spark from the Bluetooth icon in your System Tray. This means you have a Serial connection to your phone.

Configure Windows XP to use T39 as a modem
===================================
This step will configure Windows XP to use your T39 as a modem via IR, Cable connection or Bluetooth. I have only configured mine for Bluetooth and IR, and have connected successfully via both methods to Rogers GPRS service in Canada. The options should be identical for any GPRS carrier, however. (I know - famous last words

* Start > Settings > Control Panel > Phone and Modem options
* In the "Phone and Modem Options" dialog, select the "Modems" tab
* Click on the "Add" button. (This next part runs very slowly on my PIII, 700MHz laptop – don’t know why)
* In the Add Hardware Wizard dialog, under Install New Modem, click "Don't detect my modem; I will select it from a list." Click Next.
* In the next window that appears, under "Manufacturer" you should now see "Ericsson". Click on this. Under ,"Models" select the Ericsson T39 you wish to install. You should see it appear there 3 times (Bluetooth, Cable, and IR versions). You'll have to pick one now and come back to do the other one later. Select one and click "Next"
* Under the "On which ports do you wish to install it" I selected COM5 for IR, COM12 for Bluetooth. Yours may be different. Can't help you there, sorry.
* You will get a Windows XP warning telling you that the software you are installing has not passed Windows logo testing to verify its compatibility. Based upon your comfort level with this, you will have to determine whether or not to "Continue Anyway" or "STOP installation". I chose the former, and have yet to regret the decision.
* Click on "Finish"
* Repeat above steps to install the Bluetooth or Cable versions of the T39 modem.

Configure a Windows XP Network Connection entry to use your device and its
GPRS capabilities
=====================================================
* From your Windows XP desktop, select Start > Settings > Network Connections > New Connection Wizard
* In the first screen of the New Connection Wizard, click "Next"
* Select "Connect to the Internet". Click "Next".
* Select "Setup my connection manually." Click "Next"
* Select "Connect using a dialup modem." Click "Next"
* In the list provided, select the T39 modem you configured in the earlier step. Click "Next".
* In the "ISP Name box", enter the name of your ISP. Don't worry about spelling, this is for your own identification of this Network Connection from your desktop later. Click "Next"
* In the "Phone Number" box, type: *99***n# where "n" is the CID of your GPRS Data Account in your T39. (To verify this right now, open your T39 and select Menu Settings > Data Comm. > Data Accounts > [name of your GPRS account] > 3. CID). Mine happens to be "3", so my string is *99***3# (in plain English, that's asterix, nine, nine, asterix, asterix, asterix, three, pound). Click "Next".
* Select "My use only". Click "Next".
* For your Internet Account information, you will need your GPRS service provider's GPRS APN username and password. Contact your wireless network service provider to obtain this. I gave the entries for Rogers AT&T Canada above. Enter the username once, and the password twice as indicated. DESELECT "Make this the default internet connection". Deselect "Turn on internet connection firewall for this connection". Click "Next"
* Select "Add a shortcut to this connection on my desktop". Click
"Finish"
* Make sure your phone is either (a) connected to your laptop via IR or (b) Bluetooth
* Double click on the desktop shortcut and click “Dial”.
* Bombs away…

Good luck

Hoto
