I upgraded my K7i today to R2AA from R2L in a local service center and it's way better than R2L! Far better!

Posted by govigov
@ atlis, i went to my service centre and they still havent got r2aa, can you confirm the search function? Any other major changes?

Posted by Atlis
Yes, search feature is there. Phone is pretty fast now, battery performance seems to be 10 - 15% better - I was browsing WAP 7 hours, made 15 min. call and sent few sms and mms (I have BST-35 Li-Pol). 1 sec. Lag isn't present :-) SE added "download from SE homepage" feature to folders in File Manager (similar to T6xx). That's all I found since now.

Posted by Klorin
Sounds great, hope SE will release it on web-update soon!

Posted by vineet_d
@gov: i confirmed here in bombay, the new firmware R2AA is available. I will go in a day or two to upgrade the same

Posted by Atlis
This firmware was available in Slovakia week ago so I think that it must be nearly everywhere...

Posted by wsx
I received messege from SE,they will put the R2AA003 firmware on the web at the end of this year.

Posted by OrgasmicMidget
"at the end of this year" are U sure about that?
Don't think SE will wait that long to put it on the update service.....

Posted by 2samek
yeah, I mean, "by the end of the year"... c'mon!

Posted by 2samek
@Atlis wait a minute!

You say that U have BST-35 Li-polymer? Was that battery you got with the phone or you purchased it stand-alone?
I have BST-30 Li-ion as I think the most of us...

When was your K700i made (week of production)?

Posted by Atlis
I purchased mine with R2L, BST-35 on 19th August, I don't know what production week it was. But If you tell me where to find it...

Posted by masseur
its on the stick in the battery compartment under the big word CE

its in the format of yyWww where YY is the year and ww is the week number

Posted by Atlis
04W24 so 24th week, am I right?

Posted by masseur
yes. mine is 04W26, uk purchased, unbranded, and I have a BST-30

my first K700 which my sone now has was a very early model from hong kong and it has a BST-30 too

this is a bit off topic though probably

Posted by Atlis
Just a bit m8 ;-) mine was bought in Slovakia, unbranded, all I know that this one was from a special group of phones originally made for Russian market, but certain amount of IMEIs were released for eastern Europe. That's why I have cyrilics and alphabet on keys

Posted by 2samek
no way! how come you have BST-35?

my K700i is 04W29 and battery is 04W28 and it's BST-30...

how many mAh is your battery? standard is 700 or 770 if I'm not mistaken...

Posted by masseur
the're both 700mAh

Posted by Atlis
2samek - my battery is 04W19 :-) 700mAh

Posted by iamcrunchie
Has anyone else noticed pictures look less noisy when taken with the cam? mine sure do with R2AA003

Posted by DCUK7
This thread is starting to go off topic people, lets keep it related to R2AA and use a different thread for battery info.

masseur will probably tell you all anyway!

Posted by Atlis
~DC - really ;-)@Crunch - yes they seem to be better and are stored faster...

Posted by mwarner
@iamcrunchie & Atlis
Interesting information about improved compression on photos - I hadn't heard this mentioned before. Which firmware did you have immediately before you flashed R2AA?

Has anyone else noticed differences in camera quality, particularly those who upgraded from R2L?

If it looks like this is a possibility i'll add it to the K700 / K500 Firmware overview thread.

Posted by manunitedfan
no, the pics just luk the same to me! anyone notice how tht tennis game is much faster now!

Posted by 2samek
some1 should run jBenchmark on new firmware...

Posted by iamcrunchie
just possibly spotted something new?
My k700i now refuses to receive .jad files via bluetooth (forgot which type it needed)

Jbenchmark2 result :129

Hi Mike and all,

so I have been using R2AA for a day or two and:

1. No difference in picture quality and compression coming from R2L
2. Battery performance kind of the same, 14 hours maximum (but I use it with HBH600 all the time, have between 1-2 hours of talk and more than 50 SMS per day)

All in all not too much difference between R2AA and R2L ecept for the quazi search function and some small polished details.

Wonder what R3A will bring?

Take care

Sorry for asking this, but i don't feel like browsing all these pages:
Is the terminator dongle compatible with TotalServer client software?
Thanks.

No. You need the T28 service cable to use Total Server. The terminator cable will not likely ever be compatible with the k700i (even though the connector type is the same)... at least that's what I heard posted from someone who is involved with DIV software development.

Posted by mwarner
Has anyone actually tried using Totalserver for update through DSS-20/25 yet? The website certainly indicates that it is possible:

"DSS-20/25 ... were tested by our team however we do not guarentee DSS-xx cable support"

It then goes and tells you how to use it:

"Select correct Buad Rate - 921600 for USB cable and 115200 for Serial Cable "

Where the USB cable speed is referring to DSS-20/25.

I would try it myself, but my broadband connection at home is currently unavailable (it is being moved from my old house to my new house!).

Mike

how come we pay more for a k700 cos its uspposedly better thn a k500, yet this cheaper model has better benchmark results thn the k700!!! surely this means the k500 is better at like games and stuff maybe thts why splinter cell 3d was released on the k500 insted!! u think maybe on the gaming side in terms of 3d, the k500 will be more concentrated on? surely the k700 should be better than the k500 in terms of java etc.. rahter than the other way around!

Posted by DCUK7
@ manunitedfan

You pay more for the K700i because of it's internal storage, bluetooth and other gubbins. In terms of "real world" performance I don't think you will notice a difference. You will be able to get Splinter Cell for the K700i. Just look at the tennis game, very complex java game and runs great on R2L and above firmware. Anything the K500 can run the K700 will have no problem running either! Don't buy into benchmark results too much, a slight difference isn't noticeable, as anyone who has run 3D Mark on their PC will tell you!

@ mwarner

They say they tested DSS-xx support but if they did why not tell everyone how they got it to function. I think they might have made it communicate with the phone but not actually update anything! Also that bulls**t about setting the baud rate to 921600 for USB, you cannot select that high a setting, the maximum for the DSS-2x is 128000 so heaven knows what they are on about!

vee:

what did you mean by "small polished details?" what are these details that are now evident in R2AA? is it worth the upgrade if i'm already using R2L? thanks.

Posted by manunitedfan
im getting my fone updated but tht tennis game is slow does it get faster

Posted by DCUK7
The tennis game is much faster on R2L, dunno about R2AA. You won't believe it's the same game, trust me!

Posted by vee
@ j4sp33d

if it is free it is always good to do the upgrade, but if you have to pay wait for something bigger (R3A)... There are no noticable user details except for Autosave on SIM and Search Phonebook...

I know most of the replies in this thread talking about R2L -> R2AA. But my K700i still have the older fw R2A041 (haven't upgrade with SE update service yet). Can someone tell me what differences it would make to go from R2A -->R2L?

My major concerns are the battery performance and Bluetooth. Will going to R2L helping me with these two concerns?

Thanks guys.

Posted by HjJ
Bluetooth and battery is much improved from R2A to R2L.

Luatdahn, check out the firmware faq for k700i.

I had a similar issue a while back on R2A (not AA). All my settings were correct, could send sms, but the delivery report didn't work, and neither did receiving any messages. From what I remember, I needed to clear my in/out box. Turned out it was completely full, but the phone didn't alert me to clear it like normal. Anyways, erased the in/out boxes, all was fine. Try that.

@luatdhan

I upgrades my R2A -> R2AA straight off, and you can really tell the difference in Battery performance. Its discussed in another thread so i wont go into too much detail

Cheers

Just upped a guide for using total server update for o2 customers here

Posted by tom78999
If you use the repair/debrand tab to debrand the phone and update firmware, as described in your guide, then I don't think you don't need to download these files:

2. K700_R2AA003_EU1.K7L
3. K700_R2AA003_EU1.K7C

Anyway, nice guide - maybe you could add some more screenshots taken throughout the process to help people doing it for the first time though.

how to register totalserver? 'Coz, TOTAL Multi Server need username & pass?!

Posted by demon-knight
I could do away with them, originally I was going to write the guide to do the other stuff, I will edit it and remove those items....

2. K700_R2AA003_EU1.K7L
3. K700_R2AA003_EU1.K7C

Thanks for the info
