Happy Birthday to Angelgirl! Wishing you a great year ahead.
@Brym I will try out Opera. I already use Google Chrome and Apple Safari for the same reasons: speed. Facebook is just too sloooow on both browsers even when I use cybercafes.
UPDATE: Facebook homepage took a looong time to open in Firefox but at least it is opened. Thanks! It seems Firefox has jumped back into contention in Coola's Browser wars.
@Amby I am tired of MTN and Glo. Except I spend N500 and above daily, my credit ALWAYS runs out before evening. I am about to boot off my Glo in favour of Etisalat and see if I spend less. But, of course, it will depend on the denominations of recharge cards that Etisalat has.
Posted by ambyzown
@Coola: If u spend as much as N500 on calls daily that amounts to about N15,000 a month. Why not migrate to the Postpaid package on Glo? Call tariff reduces drastically if u're on the Postpaid plan.
Off-net calls - 37k/sec
On-net calls - 25k/sec

Na wa o! Prepare for another re-branding and name change for Zain!!!!
Zain's African arm 'put up for sale'
The Pan-African cellular operator, Zain, has reportedly been put up for sale by its Kuwaiti parent MTC, four years after a bidding war saw MTN miss out on the chance to buy the network for itself.
Kuwaiti newspaper Al Qabas said Zain's African arm — which traded as Celtel before a grand rebranding exercise last year — may be sold for US$12bn to a French company.
.....
Zain operates in 23 countries in the Middle East and Africa, serving 64,7-million customers. The African operations it is reportedly trying to shed covers 16 countries and 65% of the group's customers. However, they are not doing as well financially as its owners would like. Africa contributed only 10% of the profit in financial 2008 and in the first quarter to March its African arm suffered a net loss of $4,9m on a revenue of $917m.

I guess another name change is in the offing
@Artwales: For postpaid 24/7 data service on MTN you need to visit a friendship center

@coola: By now u've probably heard that Orange is rumoured to be interested in buying Zain's African operation. There might be a problem in Nigeria though as there is still legal challenge to the ownership of the former Vee Mobile Network which ultimately morphed into Zain.

Trust Naija to always get in the news........ Negatively.
Posted by brix25
@Amby: Thats hardly negative, everyone would expect due process in legal challenges. The Zimbabweab guy feels aggrieved and he is within his right to challenge the ownership of Zain's Nigerian operation in court. What I find most ridiculous are the Kuwaitis running away from Africa without even having seriously competed with MTN.
Posted by ambyzown
@Brix: Isn't it odd that in all the 17 African countries where Zain has its operations, Nigeria is the only one that might pose a problem in the takeover bid by Orange? Thats what I meant by "Negatively"
Posted by brix25
Lets move on to 10k posts in the Naija thread...tired of seeing these Moroccans dominating with their silly discussions over free wap.
Posted by ambyzown
@Brix: I can assure you that it will take about a week for someone else apart from you and me to notice your last post. It took me a full 24hrs. Moreover, most contributors to this forum now have their own forums which keep them occupied 24/7. Probably before the end of the year we'll hit the 10,000 post mark

Hi all!!!
Its funny, but the more internet access i get on my laptop, the less i come to PNF! Anyhow, I've added it to one of my homepages so i hope to be here more often. Whats with the Morrocans? And do other threads have as many requests for cheats from other countries? I have dozens of PMs requesting how to browse free in Cameroun, Ghana, Morroco, SA etc. Its embarassing!!! Pls dont have authorities make me a "person of concern"!!!
Posted by brix25
Lol @ abu:-) Yes, it seems we have all been harassed by "spammers".
Posted by abubakar
What ar the moderators doing abt it?
Posted by ambyzown
How come everyone wants free internet? I think the phone companies should exploit this huge demand for internet by making it affordable, or make free internet an incentive for increased usage of voice call services.
@Abu: you have more internet access? how come? and is it cheap?

@amby: Hoping not to sound like a broken record, its Starcomms. Im a data dealer now (no discount for me though!!!) but as long as u only need 3 hrs of browsing daily, there's a package that can give u an average of N3333 per month. Any one interested should contact me!!! Thru PM of course.
Posted by ambyzown
OK, I forgot. I think thats a great package. N10,000 for three months. But what is the speed like? I'm enjoying my zoom N5000 24/7 access thats limited to 100hrs a month. Quite adequate for me, plus the speed is commendable.
I'm planning to spoil myself this christmas with an extravagant phone. I have three possible toys in mind, so guys help me out here.
1. SonyEricsson Satio
2. SonyEricsson Xperia X3
3. Samsung Omnia 8910 HD
Tell me what your choices are and why.

Here are photos of the phones.

9ja for life how's life here pals

@amby: Its between the Satio and the still-to-be-announced X3 which I like very much just from the looks and the UI.
Posted by abubakar
@amby: would the x3 even be out in time for ur splurge?

I'm hoping it would. I really like the Android UI. But the Samsung's not too bad either. It runs S60V5 just like the Satio. Though I must confess the Satio looks a lot more appealing.

Gunshots, explosions and smoke in Maiduguri. This our govt is messed up. This extremist announces he is going to attack Muslim clerics that oppose his radical views, govt institutions and officials (incl the governor!!!!) and any force that tries to stop him (incl police and army). 3 days later he does just that, bombing and burning down police stations across the town and the police hq, and our security force are surprised!!!!!

@abu: Sorry to hear about the violence in the north of Naija. We've not been immune from senseless violence although not to the extent of what transpired this weekend.

The most annoying part is the man's rhetoric is so upside down. His followers hate all western education, but when u look at the history of the sources of most so-called western education they have thier roots in the islamic world, from geography, algebra, algorithms to optics.

The X3 is a full touchscreen phone and so will not sport a hardware keyboard. In its place is a fully thumbable virtual qwerty keyboard.

Can't wait for the China version.
@Abu. Sorry about the Boko Haram riots. Many young lives lost. I think it is just poverty and illiteracy that is causing such "Teachers" to have such a following.
And I agree with you. The more one is online, the LESS I visit here. Maybe its the restricted discussion topics.

@coola: the Police took majority of the innocent lives, so we actually had two terror groups. Last friday, the cops paraded around town in some armoured vehicles and jeeps baring arms as a show, putting so many into another hysteria. Got calls from so many people that an attack was eminent that day.
Nigeria........ We are in trouble o!!!!!

I also heard that every man is clean shaven in Maiduguri these days as keeping a long beard is an invitation to being labelled a Boko Haramite and promptly ...
May God help us.

Coola Lessons:
When next your are all online, make sure you check your online tracks over at www.pipl.com. It shows you all the sites, groups, blogs, forums you have been posting stuff to. Scary. It is a nice way to track your relatives all over the internet too.
Lesson: avoid XXX sites with your usual nickname.

coola: Is that why u checked?

Coola Lessons:
Have you checked your Account Statements lately? I am looking at my Zenith Bank Statement right now! Boy!!! I get charged N65 for every ATM withdrawal from the same Zenith Bank!
I also discovered several strange debit entries like:
Misc Debits (....shwoooo???)
Interest Charge (...for what????)
Transaction Notification Charge (which I am guessing are my SMS alerts, I think)
C.O.T + VAT on COT
Lesson: Register for Internet banking with your bank and print out your balance.
@Abu: I saw THAT! Just saving some of you from shooting your future in the foot.
Posted by ambyzown
@Coola: Internet banking? Do you think that makes you immune to funny bank charges? Are you sure you wouldn't see something like "Online Login Charge" on your next account statement?
