Back from church
Posted by mamba
I'm beginning to think that the nokia 6230 is not capable of GPRS on the glo network, could it be as a result of being a 3g phone and glo being on 2.5g?
@ihe I'm considering marrying from Imo now...
Posted by OluYom
@ihe: My last post was before service, and I am back now from church. I am posting this from the Apapa Amusement Park where Nifemi (my son) is having a swell time.

Nope. It is capable of GPRS. You only need proper config. Take it to Adeola Odeku, or (better still) bring it to me
Posted by coolapostle
I am sending this from a taxi enroute Akure. There was no gprs in ikorodu and mile 12. None along the Lagos Ibadan express way too. Normal Coverage is patchy on this route. So all that Glo bragging is not really true. We just arrived Ore.
Posted by mamba
@coola: keep updating us un the Gprs coverage, i'm from Ondo state & very much interested in knowing how coverage is there.
Posted by OluYom
Shame about d gprs coverage. Guess it will improve over time
Posted by mamba
@aya: the 6230 actually belongs to my brother whom just purchased it 46k yesterday, he's already thinking of going back to the phone to swap for either siemens Sx1 or sonyericsson K700i. Do you think that's a good idea? pls advise on what he should do cos he's really pissed off. just incase he decides to keep the 6230, i'll bring to you to try to config.
Posted by OluYom
@mamba. SX1 is definitely a superior phone, but battery life sucks; and that keypad..? K700i has had very good reports so far, so he might consider that. But the 6230 does arouses my curiousity :) But thatz just me being me, the curiousity, that is.
Posted by brym!
@mamba, zip up O! Owerri women are on the wild side!!
Tell ur bros to swap the 6230 for k700.K700 has a brilliant display(176x220 pixels), better VGA camera and video recording, radio & media player spiced up with an equalizer(true stereo sound on headphones),41mb memory good for 5 or more mp3 tracks. Also good for browsing wap and html sites. K700 beats 6230 in all departments except for 6230's Edge capability. I used the k700 for three months before I lost it;I also played with my boss' 6230 for 2 days:I guess that makes me a better judge.
@Ihe, am just lucky with glo. bring ofe-owerri come O!
@Aya,Haba, I was visiting and contributing to other foums b4 I stumbled on this forum. Hey, I was near the park this afternoon. How's pally?
@coola, good report on coverage

@brym! No offense meant; I take back my words. My pally dey. He had a swell time. We both went up the Big Wheel (yes; that one everyone is afraid of!) & the plucky guy sang all thru while I was praying nothing would go wrong! ;)
Posted by brym!
@Aya, Ha! the big wheel. The first time I rode in it was the last for me, sometime in 1980 when the park was just opened. Never had the guts go back, I was so scared man.
Sorry I forgot to ask about your best friend, and girlfrend, hope they well and hearty?
About your new nokia craze: how does the 9500 stand against the 9300 and 7710? No thesis O, just salient points!

Q: "About your new nokia craze: howdoes the 9500 stand against the9300 and 7710?" A: The 9500 beats both hands down. Only plus for 7710 I see is touchscreen. My girls are both fine, thanks.
Posted by mamba
@brym!: does ur boss use the 6230 with glo gprs?
There's just one major prob with the K700i, that's lack of expandable memory.
I've got 128mb MS duo for my p800 with 70 ogg tracks and 15 mp4 musical videos on it. that's like goin around with ur vcd, tv and ipod all in one handset.
Posted by brym!
@mamba, my boss na one money-miss-road oyibo with 7 handsets. He has his foreign(panafon) sim in the 6230; he only uses it on trips abroad.GPRS is strange to his ears.
You will not enjoy all that "gbogbo-ero" on 6230's 128 x 128 pixels display. Besides included mmc card is 32mb, phone has 6mb shared memory. You should listen to Mp3 on K700 (from speakers and headphones); just beatiful, if you are a sound freak.
@Aya, are sure 9500 lacks touch screen?
I just read the review, it lacks one.

@mamba: Ah, OggPlayer. I forgot to mention that. FTP800 allows you to upload files to webservers, as well as download. Headlines is a news sync service similar to how AvantGo works. Whatz d last one you asked about?
Posted by mamba
sman
Posted by OluYom
@mamba: Sman is a task & file manager, network info tool, bluejack tool, password-protected store, tasks & calendar interface, app launcher ALL-in-one app. Plus a few other extras. And its freeware. Add MobiPocket Reader & TomeRaider (both ebook readers) to the list.

@mamba: I have used quite a number & later uninstalled, as they were of little or no functional use to me. But a long list like that is part of what makes the p800/p900/p910 series a winner anyday.
Posted by brix25
Now I'm going to ditch my T68i and just get myself a P800, damn I never knew it could do so many things...the only downside I could possibly envision is the size, otherwise I'll buy it.
Posted by Angelgirl
@all; Seasons greetings to you all!!!
@Ihe; How well does Vmobiles's Gprs run, what's their charge like and do you get connection anywhere thier is network?
@coola, i hear you are the papa xmas dashing pple money, anyway all i need is an MTN's N1,500 recharge card, its not much, God will reward you in a million folds.
@AYA, a friend bought Sagem MyX-5 with his vmobile, i browsed the features, and saw Vodacom Gprs, in the internet settings, so whose gprs will run vmobile or vodacom?
Posted by OluYom
@brix25: U cant go wrong with the p800. Its a mobile computer. @angel: Vmobile does not have a GPRS platform in place, so I am wondering why u referred to vmobile GPRS in your questions. On d sagem, simply replace the Vodacom settings with those for, say Glo, & u can browse on Glo GPRS. I did dat with my lil' sister's Vodaphone-branded MyX6 & had no problems browsing.
Posted by Angelgirl
@AYA, something wrong with my eyes? i thot i read ihe saying he connected with a vmobile...... now where is that post...... guess i gat so much catching up to do dat i mixed up d information, all thx to the search party... keep it up u all.
Posted by brym!
@Angel, Vmobile gprs? Maybe two years from now;they have other pressing problems.
@AYA, e be like say glo don excommunicate me from gprs O! After deducting N220 immediately I reloaded, no the gprs signal. I removed the sim and replaced it; no show. I cancelled the settings and entered them manually; no show. I want to try over the air(sms request) and see.
@Ihe, Get off your mama's laps and join us here!
@mamba, how far? Is bros going for K700?
@Demmy and deeone, special forces again?
@Coola, how's Akure? No gprs signal?
Posted by OluYom
@brym! : Looks like judgement day has come for you. All your free browsing... :D. But seriously, it may just be a temporary hitch on their net. Patience.
Posted by brym!
@brix25; why not add a little more and go for the P900 so that you don't ditch the p800 after 2 months usage. Since the P910 was released the price of the P900 has been somersaulting weekly in Nigeria. Still have that holiday in mind, given your
present disposition?
@Aya, thinking of gettin another line... lets just see how it goes today!
Posted by mamba
@brym!: my bro just left for the phone shop to swap for either k700i or nokia 6600 after reading so many reviews online, i guess i'll wait till he returns to know what the outcome will be.
Don't take the risk of getting another line cos 2 of my friends bought glo lines that cant retrieve acc balance via USSD, that could be frustrating....
@brix: i think it's best to go for p900 cos the price keeps reducing with time and it's probably the next best phone after the almighty p910. As for me, i was quite unimpressed with the size initially, but i'm satisfied with it now cos it's fulfilled all my needs in a phone....
@Angel girl: there's no such thing as Vmobile GPRS.

@mamba: I didnt mention anything about getting another line; that was brym! My line is functioning just fine, thanks.

@Aya: what's bluejack or bluejacking? I can't figure out.
Posted by momolosho
@Aya i tried d info but no show pls lets 4get it' but pls can u explain how 2 use memory stick duo disc? & pls acept my seasons greatings 2 u & other members.
Posted by mamba
@All: has anyone using MSN Messenger tried this?
go to wapsite http://start.e-messenger.net/mobile
allows to use MSN Messenger on you phone! (be aware that this is a third party site and that you are giving out your MSN Messenger password). This is the WAP 2.0 version although it identifies itself as HTML. [HTML]
@all try it and post feedback..
Posted by OluYom
@mamba: Bluejacking is scanning for other active bluetooth-enabled devices & sending a preset message - usually an audio or text file (e.g. Merry Christmas!). @momo: Ms duo disc? I know of ms duo adapter, but not heard of disk yet.
Posted by mamba
Is there any shop i could purchase sonyericsson p800 2.5mm stereo handsfree (the exact type included with the original phone box), i lost mine and has been trying to get a replacement without luck....
pls Help!!!
Posted by mamba
@AYA: so sman allows bluejacking then? that's interesting, i'll install and try it, sounds interesting..
Any help on the stereo handsfree? i need it badly.
Posted by momolosho
@Aya I mean d ms duo on d right side of p800&p900, if u open u will find d disk anyway explain d ms duo dat u know about.
Posted by mamba
@Momolosho: MS duo is a removable storage for p800/900 it represents drive d: on ur phone, you can store multimedia files and install apps on the drive. you can gain access to data on the MS duo from controlpanel>Device>storage manager>files>location or self installed 3rd party apps such as file manager or Sman.

@momo: Ms duo is a removable drive u can store ringtones & other files (including Word, PowerPoint docs, web pages etc) and install games & apps. Its listed as your drive D. Be careful with it, as it is very delicate. Sizes: 16mb, 32mb,64mb,128mb. @mamba: I hardly use my stereo handsfree, so you may consider purchasing mine.

@AYA: i'll be most delighted, how much?

hi every one. is real bin a long time.glo took away my opportunity 2 also visit esato wit their nonsense 70naira/kb.and browsin in gwags where i sch is like i luxrey which i dont need.but am back in benin wher i could sleep in a cafe 4 a price as littlr as nothin.
Posted by brym!
@mamba, my current prepaid line is one those you warning agaist; I can only check acct balance by dialing 124. To recharge you still have to dial again.
@ Aya, send a text to Ihe inviting him to join us;never knew he was mama's boy.
Posted by mamba
@brym!: If that's the cese then i guess you can take a chance by procuring one or more glo lines, they'll only cost you =N=805 each, you can keep activating all of them till you finally get one that can access acc balance via #124#... you might even turn out to be a glo millionaire winner, the more lines you activate, the more ur chances of winning one milla.
@dawny: ur welcome
@AYA: why the silence? are you timing the 1000th post?
@ALL, the 1000th poster will receive a surprise gift from ESATO!
GUESS WHAT IT IS???

my bro just came back with a cute lil K700i, the phones probably the best i've seen so far, everyone here's struggling to have a feel of this phone.....
I guess the k700i's better than the 6230 after all.........this phone's gonna win an award.......thanks @brym! for the advice.

I should think it quite petty for anyone to be targeting the so-called 1,000th post. I have met a couple of such people at other threads, and I didn't like it one tiny bit. But if anyone derives any fun from it, go ahead...
Posted by brym!
@mamba I don't see your bros going to bed early today. When I acquired mine I fiddled with it all nite. The only other time I did that was with the T610 last year. Seriously, the only other phone that will challenge the K700 for that award will be moto's E398 or V3.
Posted by OluYom
@brym! The E398 & V3 have both been given quite favourable reviews. Does that mean the Moto engineers have sorted out those battery life & ringtone problems the last generation Motos had?
Posted by mamba
my bro's so excited, he's actually fiddling with it right now
never really liked moto phones though
