Today, 08.08.08, MTN launched their magazine called Morezine which they claimed is 'Nigeria's first ever lifestyle magazine fully published by a brand.' The publication, according to MTN, delivers 'more info, more tools and even more "effizzi".
But I thought that the then Vmobile was the first to publish a magazine?
Anyway, this is Morezine, is it different from MoreFM?
Posted by abubakar
@brym: v mobiles mag (at least in the eyes of mtn!) was a gsm mag. thiers is a LIFESTYLE (WOW!!!) mag
@all: i shall still call it Celtel as long as
a- they havent sent me any notification of change
b- celtel is written on my screen (my wife still has vmobile!)
c- the recharge cards still have celtel on them
d- none of the offices i've seen has any other name on it (tho they all have the ugly violet and limegreen)
Posted by OluYom
@abubakar: your answer is thought-provoking. As a matter of fact, I pitch tents with you. My wife's phone still reads Celtel, and so does mine and my PA's! Vmobile I know; Celtel I know. Who is Bane... er, Vain... sorry, Zain?

Guys, whats the 'in' mobile device of choice these days? Not too long ago it was the P1, then the mogul and then the i780. Which one is it these days?
G900i is being sold for N63k at DSCL, but the reviews I read about the phone are not encouraging at all
Posted by OluYom
@amby: The i780 is yet to be unseated :D. But the Nokia E71 is a great device that's hot on the market at the moment. The mobility team at my place of work are agreed though that the i780 pips it. But honestly, that doesn't take any shine off that excellent device. Brym mentioned playing with it or something of the sort a short while ago.

@2tek: You need to have a qualified engineer/technician have a look at your unit. The issue sounds way above the little I know.

Yeah, I held the Nokia E71 briefly and scored it high on design; it is too light, too slim and too cute to be tagged a business phone. Nokia outdid themselves.
My only beef with the E71 is the small 2.3" screen. With the Samsung i780, the multimedia features appear too average...don't blame me, I have been spoilt by the P1's better camera, FM radio and the modded Walkman 3.0.
My eyes for upgrading are on the feature-rich Samsung Omnia WM6.1 device; the HTC Diamond killer.
Waiting for the price to drop to my level is really going to be a long wait and a very big test of my patience.

@amby: I'm pretty impressed with WM. Oh, the restarts are still needed every now and then when one toys with the settings and the phone freezes. There are also a few other niggles too. Like Symbian, very far from perfect.

I guess I can no longer call this phone a "saucer"

MTN gprs has been down for almost a wk, hence my disappearance.
EARNEST DOES IT AGAIN!!!!
exec vc of ncc earnest ndukwe has always been a bit of a clown to me in the way he makes policies which are redundant, leaving the telecomms industry stagnant. but with this new "sim registration" he has put another big feathe in his clown hat.
just as scrapping the 6-3-3-4 system to a 9-3-4 system wont make any changes, this registration wont, except from money to be embezzled in the guise of symposiums, committees, ad campaigns etc.

MTN Launched its hyconnect fixed wireless services in Ibadan last week at a monthly access fee of N20,000 and I just asked myself, what are these people smoking?
How many Nigerians can afford to put down 20,000 monthly for "internet access and voice"?
We seem to be going back to the era where phones and internet services are not for the "poor"?
Posted by abubakar
@adrusa: dont fool urself! its never been for the poor! its not just acces. how many minutes of calls does the average person make daily? we still have people who have a phone (or 2) but still make most of thier calls from call centres!

Hey! Are you guys following the Olympics? Seems bad for Naija so far, with all our ambassadors crashing out at the heats/prelims. Will our soccer team overcome CIV today? Many questions...

@brym: I'm not much into sports, but why should we be surprised that our boys and girls are crashing out? As usual, we were ill-prepared. Government was more interested in putting down money for the delegation than for the preparation of the sportsmen and women.s.

@brym: as long as we dont have any olympics programme in naija there is nothing to expect. Everytime we have won a medal has been due to pure luck or raw talent. Virtually everyone on our athletics squad runs for one "awayan" college's varsity track team.
Posted by brym!
You guys are right about our preparations; always too little and too late. It is same story every Olympic year. And there is really no programme to develop talents and so most athletes depend on colleges abroad.
Victory over CIV yesterday was great. Hope we can push on further.

@all: the story of the Nigerian athlete is that of hunger and heart rending deprivation. And yet someone, somewhere is sitted expecting ten gold medals when the system has done f..k all to encourage them. The trainers nko? Same story, sadly. Was acquainted to one boxing coach at the National Stadium like two years ago. His case is a brainer. This guy subsists on less than #100 a day avr. A look at him would tell one what he needs more than the other;FOOD! How can he coach then? Who does he coach? The malnourished athletes? Go to our stadiums, you'll cry for anybody that calls themselves sportmen.

That is why we will never do well at the Olympics. Most members of our contingent are foreign-based and the only reason why they were not snapped up by their host countries is because they are not outstanding at what they are doing. If we have a medal hopeful at any event he or she would have been offered a foreign citizenship.

I have P1i for sale so anyone interested should holla @ me.
Posted by OluYom
@mamba: So, what are you replacing the P1i with? A member of our workteam purchased the Nokia E71 last week, and we spent time together going over and configuring it. Excellent specs and hardware, but crippled by S60's basic interface. We ended up both longing for Nokia to incorporate the advanced functionalities of the now dead S80 (wishful thinking) and UIQ into the upcoming, new S60.

I might be replacing it with a Nokia N82 or N78 cos I'm kinda tired of touch screen phones. I just need a phone to make calls & browse occassionally.

hello everyone, its been quite sometime.nice to c dat this thread is still alive and kicking. Can anyone pls tell me something special about the nokia E90,just got one for 88k,but nothing unique about it& my P1i is really beginning to bore me,so what phone can one actually get and find some inner peace-i am beginning to fear that i am a phone freak cuz i have found no satisfaction in any phone.tho d P1i almost did satisfy me.
Oluyom how far, any suggestions.
Posted by OluYom
@smol: The E90 bored you easy for the same reason the E71 will bore most of us: S60 being a basic interface. It just cripples the otherwise excellent hardware of the E90/E71 (and those are two really powerful phones). My question is, What do YOU look for in a phone? Its obvious though that you are a geek, mmeaning you must love to fiddle around. Maybe you can wait for the upcoming Sony Ericsson Xperia, or get a Samsung i780. Both are Windows Mobile powered, and offer a more advanced interface than the E-series currently do. Still cannot believe I've become a WinMob advocate. I should be shot!

@brym: MTN's full of surprises these days. The 1-day ALL-day bundle would be good for weekend browsing - N1,000 for 100mb for the weekend. Not bad. The best part, IMHO, is that they thought of the prepaid market - which is the REAL market.

None, bar the capability of your phone e.g. processing power, data capability e.g. 3G or 3.5G

The only speed issues here are those of limitations in transfer speeds of Buetooth, Infrared, and cables. Right now, USB is the fastest of the lot. Not sure which of BT and IR is faster.
Posted by abubakar
i've read up on the bt vs. ir issue a long time back. bt was faster. had to do with the checks that the ir had to do to confirm the data package was sent properly.
..
@oluy: i was to lazy to check the mtn site for this detail: does the 24hrs delay also apply for the 1-day bundle? if it does, that would suck. a quick decision to use the phone rather than, say, go to a cafe, would not be possible. but dont laff, when i say this: MTN HAS FINALLY RISEN THE BAR!!!
I doubt Zain has it in them to do a thing. Glo might though.
Posted by OluYom
@abubakar: Actually, the activation is instantenous for all packages. I know 2 people who have done it. It seems MTN stated the 24-hour clause to cover their backs in case of system delays. One thing though: if after sending the required SMS you receive confirmation of activation but cannot browse, restart your phone. That solves the problem.

well i'm in abeokuta browsing via nokia 6280 via bluetooth modem via mtn sim. there is no 3g coverage here i think because the phone doesnt show that.. the phone is 3g enabled shey?
so that wil put me on the edge/gprs band.. there is also no 3g in nasarawa where I'm serving and will be returning to soon.
the speed is OK sha, i subscribed for the night belt thingy and activation was instantaneous. Na only this 3gig ceiling sha but wait i go just buy another sim when this ones limit has been reached.
bluesoleil doesnt install on my vista laptop, i dwnloaded one and it does just not work.
