It's a pity i can't get the mogul cos reltel service is absent in Akure.
How i wish it could be ported for use on other networks.
@Oyom the guinea pig, we are patiently waiting for the full review as usual

Adrusa, can you kindly confirm the format for username and password?
Oluyom, you will agree with me (now or later) that Mogul was good investment. The username is your phone number without the leading zero @reltel.com and the password is your phone number again without the leading zero. e.g. 7023015419@reltel.com

@brym: Yes, o! my first WM - and it feels quite different. Still, I haven't run into anything to put me off yet.
@Adrusa: Thanks. Seems I'm yet to be activated for internet access.

A few minutes ago, I got connected by Reltel and this is my first ever post with the Mogul (what a name!)
I like the fact that using the touchscreen for browsing is not totally necesarry. All navigation is possible via keyboard. The keyboard is good too. Quite good.

O'Yom! How far with the Mogul? And the WM experience?
Posted by OluYom
@brym: I'm sold on WM6! Coming from a life-long Symbian user, that's something. Of course, its still not as stable. I've had enough reboots in the last 48 hours
But in terms of raw computing power and availability of applications for customisation, this is good.
The Mogul is let down in the multimedia department, but very good in PIM, mails and business-related functions.
My Mogul keeps throwing up a "Provisioning" message each time I connect to the internet, and a few minutes later, it disconnects and presents a "Provisioning Error" message. Adrusa, have you experienced this?

Regarding resets, it is second nature to WM: you'll get used to it sooner.
Multimedia on WM is average: Cameras are poor especially those from HTC. Mediaplayer on WM6 is quite better than previous versions with wider support for a variety of formats but audio quality is still poor. Look for better freeware like: GSPlayer for audio and TCMP for video, etc from

I disagree with that, except for the tiny speaker, it has all the multimedia capability you require. It can play anything, sound or movie, just find the right codec and encode your file properly.
As for the provisioning go into the programs folder and delete IOTA directory. It stopped the provisioning nonsense for me. Let me know your mileage.
@all
I once bashed WM on this board, but with windows mobile 6.1 and spb mobile shell, I think WM has come of age. You can do most thing with one hand, except sending a text message.
Posted by OluYom
@adrusa: Problem solved after deleting the IOTA folder! Thanks a million. But how did you figure that out?
I searched the internet for hours and never got that info. Many Sprint subscribers complaining of the same issue without finding a solution.
To help others, I'm going to put up this solution on my website.
Thanks again!

We should all do ourselves a little favour and pick a mogul from reltel and then pressure reltel to give us a pay as you go data access. With this I think we will be truly mobile and affordably connected for the first time in Nigeria.

I have had the phone for about three weeks now, so I have asked all the questions and got all the available answers.

Sorry, I only carry one mobile phone and it just has to be GSM.
The P1 is still my ebano, though I am looking forward to a WM qwerty device with very rich multimedia specs. Samsung i780 comes close but that camera is trash.

Please Amby, kindly PM me the GPRS settings for celtel and glo, i lost my phones to armed robbers, i want to have the settings incase i need to re enter manually on my next new set. Thanks

Thanks Brym, i was standing at the Bus stop early one morning waiting for bus when my handbag was snatched with a gun ponited at me.
The Dongle am referring to is on a black casing, and its called Billionton Bluetooth Class one.
Posted by ambyzown
@Angelgirl: download bluesoleil bluetooth software, it works very well with almost all bluetooth devices. I'm sure it will work for u. u.
Posted by OluYom
@angel: Sorry to hear about your experience. But we thank God that it was just a phone.
I have a software CD that'll work with your dongle. Question is how to get it across (and back). The two of us are on opposing ends of Lagos .
@amby: The official Blue Soliel download is a limited versin. Usage is limited to transfer of 5mb and then it stops working until you pay for registration.
Posted by ambyzown
@Oluyom: Really? it used to be freeware. Try downloading from www.driversguide.com. just enter your device name and click search for driver.
Posted by OluYom
@amby: Thanks. I'll give that a try tomorrow and see how it works out.

@ Abu:From beyond? Hmm!

I havent had time to go thru the thread but has any gist of MTN's "free" DSTV reached any of you guys? When I was at Abuja, I went to the office and it was "free" if you bought thier phone (@ abt N50k!!) It would have been better to just give access to those with compatible phones either free (AWOOF) or with some minimal access fee to get us hooked b4 they landed the REAL charges. For now i guess its for the bigger boys (AKA AYA (oops!! I mean Oluyom!! It gets hard to convert!!!) and Amby!!)
@Amby: It Seems we are soon changing ur title from Sultan of Celtel to the Tsar of Zain!!!
Posted by ambyzown
@Abu: Welcome back from beyond.
Quite frankly, I'm tired of the continuous name changes of the 0802 network. They either give us quality service or shut down. I reject the title. My celtel line has been dormant now for over two months. Even the internet I used to enjoy is rubbish. I'm only keeping my sim alive because its my most known number. If only number portability was already feasible.

Yes, we discussed MTN/DSTV collabo here:

Birds of the same feather....
@amby: You reject Celtel? Wonders! Honestly, I have all but given up on Celtel on everything except voice. My Celtel line does only voice and SMS now on a cheap N2,500 ZTE phone!
Meanwhile, Etisalat Nigeria is doing road shows, featuring at conferences across Europe and giving out branded paperbags instead of launching services. Sigh.
@abu, my brother from another mother, welcome back! Don't mind MTN. They generally seem more keen on selling handsets (Blackberry and DvBH) than getting their services in as many hands as possible.
Up Naija!

Celtel? Since I misplaced my sim cards I have not bothered to really look for them or replace them.
Posted by OluYom
Speaking of Celtel, looks like they suffered a system collapse. There's been no Celtel network signal available everywhere I have asked since yesterday night (http://www.yomisays.com/?p=942).
Posted by brym!
@O'Yom: Thanks for that info, I was wondering why calls to Celtel lines were not connecting. This is not good news. Haba! Two years after taking over, they still can't turn this company around to the level of MTN and Glo. What is this Zain thing anyway?

This is a regular event on Ibadan Reltel Network. Is it like that in lagos reltel too?

I remember that during my Treo days, the Reltel network signal would just disappear for many minutes before coming back on again. But I haven't had any such experience in the last 2 weeks with the Mogul yet.
Got an update yesterday evening just after Celtel came back on - there was a fire at Ijora that crippled their transmission lines.

@abu: that's good for you but bad for PNF.
@AYA: Reltel performance in the past one month with your Mogul?
Posted by OluYom
@brym: Reltel's internet has been generally fine. good performance as a rule, and a few hiccups now and then.
PS: don't say I told you, but I sold the Mogul today and replaced it with another WinMob device - the Samsung i780. shhhhhh...

Haba O'Yom! Second WM device in one month? So, how much did you buy it and what's your first day impression?

@all, O'yomi,abu,coola,brym,adurasa,demmy,angelgirl n otherPNF's i 4got 2 include.hello everybody i've really missed u all, because i ave missed PNF n u i braved d heavy rain which leads 2 traffic bottelnecks in Lagos 2 visit glo world yesterday 2 configure/perfect my gprs n 3g settings so dt i contribute frequently 2 this forum 4m work (laptop) n at home (E90 comm)gprs.
3g network seems 2 b very very poor everywhere? Is this true or d areas i visited? I stay at Ogba n work at maryland.
Posted by OluYom
@brym: the i780 is a perfect device! i'm browsing with HSDPA on the MTN network with it. Of course, there's GPRS and EDGE too.
The idea of a mouse on a phone? what was Samsung thinking - because it works marvellously well!!
The phone looks cool, is small and sturdy. And the CD comes with a multi-media editing suite. One spare battery, and an external charging accessory, so you can charge your spare battery separately. What were those guys smoking? They thought of everything.
Built-in GPS (though what good it will do me in Lagos, Nigeria, I dont know).
Brym, this phone na phone! My second Samsung in all my life, and I'm impressed.
@area: Glo 3g (and even GPRS) is pathetic. abeg, try MTN and see the difference.

@brym: the i780 costs N51,500 only. Its a steal!

@ O'Yom: You're certainly having a great time with that device. How does the 320x320 pixel screen handle the display of 320x240 pixel apps?
The price is great for all those features but it hasn't changed for 2 months now, right?
@Area: About time, welcome to serious mobility. 3g works for me but I only use it whenever GPRS fails...3g drains my battery fast.
Posted by OluYom
@Brym: No, price still the same. So far, all apps I installed work fine, including Opera Mobile 9.5 beta.

@O'Yom: Any significant performance difference between the Mogul and the i780? What about multimedia playback of audio and video and the camera?
