I guess its one of those moves by telecom operators to rip-off the first guys. Btw, why in d universe would i pay -N-43,000 for TV??? duh??

Plus the fact that the signal is encrypted so it works with only the ZTE phone that MTN alone sells. Subscribers cannot get any of the DVB-H phones on the market to use with the service.

Madness has no more apt a depiction than this. When MTN is ready to offer mobile TV, they know what to do. Till then... duh!

I really hope this mobile tv scheme is a faliure. With any luck they would have spent some money on it with little return. Why would they encrypt their signal so it can only be received on a useless phone? Lets see if glo and hi-tv have an answer.

Believe it or not, but I have received calls from at least five of my friends who consider me a "know-all" especially with mobile phones regarding the ZTE mobile TV. But trust me, I discouraged all of them, using incomplete 3G coverage as my excuse.

@Namzo: whats starcomms i-Zap?

I just got an N95 8gb a couple wks ago(i'm 19 incase u were wonderin). Before this i had the regular n95, n73 etc... and I was impressed albeit a little. I mean i use nearly everythin on it minus the ngage and the gps( i have lagos in my head), WLAN, accelerometer, u name it and yes! it performs. music could be better tho. oh umm... the point? i used to be an s.e user. i had a t20e when i was 12, a p800 in 2003/2004, (ngage in 05) w800i in 2006 k800i in 06/07 then that was it! I ran to nokia. didnt have the best experience with the n73. limited ram wahala. SONYericsson? my sony psp does things many s.e's even "flagships" cant do now and it's what 3,4 yrs old? ok then so where's the SONY cuz they kill in every field apart 4rm cell fones which of course shud be wayyyyyyy easier than hdtv's and the rest. so y? I'm nu by the way. bin comin here 4 three yrs but i just thot i shud register this night. bad start abi?

Posted by brolly760
1 more thing( for nokia). the screen resolution cud be better. @ least vga. then the build quality of the Nseries feels like lego. they shud luk @ the iphone 4 th@ and nothin else.

@all: where's every body popping up from?! For a while I did'nt believe I was in the right forum. Welcome to all the newbies,hope you'll enjoy it here.
On this mobile tv thingy, I think MTN has goofed big time.I give them credit for a lot of products they bring to the market cos they do their home work wella before launch.Not this time though with this damp squid which smirks of desperation and panic.Hope it.s not supposed to be an answer to competition.Wish them luck though,reckon they'll need lot'S of it this time!

Welcome newbies and returnees! Good to see PNF lively again after the recent 'ghosting' spells. Lets keep it live.
I hope Glo counters MTN sooner with their own DVB-H mobile TV, I just hate monopoly.
My boss returned from a trip abroad with a Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte. He has a 8800 fixation because this is his 4th 8800 variant. The price? Let me put it this way:
For Nokia lovers, the price is equal to current price of E90 + N95 8gb + N73.
SE lovers, W960 + P1 + P990 + K850.
The phone is just a series 40 phone with 1gb memory and 3.2 mp camera. Even the gem stone on the Dpad is fake according to some reviewers. Who will deliver my boss please?

Their EVDO internet service re-branded. Nothing special.

Posted by brolly760
yah (sigh). the 8800 gimmick. Well it appeals to a different market th@ can shell out quid 4 a "beauty over brains" fone eg. my sister.

Hey does anyone know where i can update my fone's firmware (n95 8gb) cuz i'm still using v10.0.021. computer village maybe? and what are the chances of brickin my beloved!?!? oh and are there any hacks/ mods?

Posted by mamba
@brolly. you should be able to update your phone's firmware on your own if you have a decent internet connection. All symbian phones are hackable so do your search on google or go to ipmart forum or dotsis.com

Posted by brolly760
@ mamba, not decent @ all! starcomms dial up. 115.2 kbps. The more my shances of brickin my fone. any other ideas?... anyone?

You can update your firmware at Alireta. chances of bricking it are small - but they are there all the same.

Irecently updated my P1i via a very slow internet connection and nothing happened. It just took more time to download the files, of which the real update is done off-line while the firmware download and CID checks is done online. I have updated with multilinks, starcomms & Celtel GPRS several times but will advice you to do it when ur sure of power & a stable/faster connection, probably @ night.

i've updated my w700i's f'ware b4 but its a cheap fone and its an s.e. s60 platform is really fragile. dont know what ill do if my fone bricks. cant i get someone to do it 4 me? like @ a shop or store or someplace? a professional.

Posted by ambyzown
@Brolly: you don't need a professional to update firmware, all u need is a good internet connection, stable power supply (preferably use a laptop) and a fully charged phone battery. ur n95 is s60v3, I recently updated a device on the same platform without any problems, so I don't expect u to have any.

Posted by mamba
The N95 can be updated via the phone menu without a PC cos I remember I once updated my brother's N80 like that via GPRS sometime ago. Maybe u can try that out if you can get your phone connected via wi-fi or bluetooth PAN cos the GPRS cost might be very high, or check the address @Oluyom provided.

Posted by brolly760
Thanx oh! I guess ill use a laptop and pray.

@All Welcome to all the new posters and returnees. Guess that includes moi too.

@Oluyom, I read the article on your website about the free GPRS craze going on in Naija recently. I tried to carry out some research and honestly, some guys in this country are indeed very smart.
I have tried several of the the tricks/hacks and they appear to be working.

Posted by brix25
@coola: I've temporarily re-located here for a work assignment but will be back home next year to vote and hopefully get engaged to my long-suffering girlfriend.

@brolly, to download you will have to copy the link and add the usual stuff in front of the address into your phone browser. There is another free browsing thing via Your-freedom which i'm still yet to understand how it works.

you cannot be in love with two ladies. it is honestly not possible

@pxthomas:It's not entirely impossible to love two women.If it's HONESTLY impossible as you pointed out then it could be DISHONESTLY possible,QED!

Yea ur right
Honestly, at 28 I shouldn't even be thinking of marriage yet especially when we consider the situation of things in Nigeria presently.
i neva even dey comfortable on my own talkless of having to take care of more responsibilities.
I can only get married now if I meet a young girl that has a good job, not stingy and is financially stable enough to carry all responsibilities 50-50.

Posted by pxthomas
@brolly.... check your pm

@ifed... Na wa for you

@mamba.... Take your time broda. Make sure you marry a woman that you love

What's wrong with getting hooked at 28? I got hooked at 27, and I was earning peanuts.

One question you must answer is, How small am I willing to start in order to be with the one I love?

I had no car, no TV, had almost nothing, yet we did fine. If you find a Godly woman, she'll be more than willing to share the burden. My wife and I have much more today. I run a fast-growing company with great prospects, and she's doing fine in her profession.

Give it some further thought.

@oluyom
you found a species of women who are nearly extinct in our time, no TV, no car and she married you?-she is priceless-those kind of girls dont exist in naija anymore.
@mamba
my advice to you is for you to shine your eyes very well b4 you marry any chic-me i have decided to stay single for a very longtime, these girls of nowadays aint worth marring-though am still looking for one to prove me wrong.
pls can you give me the tricks/hacks you came across,none i came across ever worked for me. maybe yours will- (smolaoye2002@yahoo.com). thanks

wussup everyone? hope you all had a great weekend. mine was brilliant.

abeg is there anything new concerning the P1i, cuz my phone is beginning to bore me

Posted by OluYom
@smol: Interesting! you don't seem to use your P1 for much. If you'd list what you're already using it for, maybe someone can tip you with something extra.

I'm still hooked on mine. And honestly, I doubt there's much another phone can give me than I'm getting on the P1 at the moment. Maybe except a faster processor and HSDPA.

For those two features, I'd drop the P1 for the i780 in 2 minutes

For me, there is still no other phone that rivals the P1. It still has the best combination of features for multi-media and business in a compact packaging...just what the doctor prescribed

Posted by mamba
The P1i is definitely a good device but there are some things I really don't like about it that will make me drop it for the G900 as soon as it is available here.

1. The length of time it takes to boot up is just absurd.
2. Lack of soft keys, d-pad and return key on the side is just not convenient
3. This phone is definitely not convenient for making calls as a heavy caller.
3. The key lock time can not be delayed further (It is just annoying)
4. Sound volume during phone call is too low even at highest volume for a P-series. I used p800, p900, p910 and p990 which were much louder.
5. Reception quality is pathetic when compared to other SE phones.
6. Camera quality is bad for a 3MP cam when compared to 2MP k750 cam.

lol @ the P1 bit. n95 8gb!!!!!!!!!!!! back to the story, mtn just sent me configuration settings 4 gprs/hsdpa/mms etc. and an sms statin that i shud upgrade my settings (urgent). lmao!!!!!!! guess they found out i've bin browsin 4 free.and are tryin to do sumthin about it.

Posted by mamba
Hmm... These MTN engineers are really slow. I guess they have ran out of clues on how to stop brothers from browsing free
In fact, all the networks are so porous to free GPRS if you just do some little research.
I'll keep browsing free on all the networks until they change their ways & give us the kind of service we deserve.
I learnt that celtel & MTN were instructed by NCC to give N175 credit to their subscribers due to poor services, anyone know more about this?

yeah i heard they have started to pay subscribers N175, a friend of mine got hers recently-but i'm yet to experience it myself

@ OluYom
well all i have been able to add to my P1 is the WM 3.0 hack and a volume hack. the phone used to give me the wow! effect but now i think i have seen it all and am looking to see the P1 do something new
