@brym: are u sure the problem u have wasnt when u backed up ur phone b4 u updated? Does it only effect online texts or does it effect sms etc too?Have u made a complaint at thier support site? If i were u i wouldnt just take it. I am ok with my phone as is but sometimes when i forget to close some apps and have 7 or 8 things running simultaneously it gets a bit sketchy.

@all: i have resigned buying a new watch till the SE MBW 150 comes into range. If im lucky my wife will get me one for my birthday.

This I find rather interesting: Why Motorola and Sony Ericsson need to 'get' it

Posted by abubakar
@angel: if thier cc actually said they wont be held liable for charges they must be joking! Its naija factor that makes them feel they can get away with it, but they havent bitten the right people. A few weeks back at starcomms' data clinic a disgruntle subscriber was threatening everything from EFCC, NCC, ICPC, Ministry of Comms, BPE.... I weak!! The only thing he didnt threaten was God's fire and brimstone and it seemed he had his own that he was gonna bring.

I never back up my phone before an update because I enjoy reinstalling all apps and data afterwards. So far, the bug only shows up when posting.

Have u made a complaint at thier support site? If i were u i wouldnt just take it.

I don't intend to make one because from other from users' experience, it is a waste of time.

I am ok with my phone as is but sometimes when i forget to close some apps and have 7 or 8 things running simultaneously it gets a bit sketchy.

That is a RAM problem, nothing can be done about that; just use the task manager to close some apps. In other words, don't leave too many apps running. You can download swiss manager.

Posted by abubakar
@brym: i know its a ram issue, i just hoped the update would assist in managing the apps, intuitively closing those that could be closed or something. The worst part is if im using a heavy app, say opera, with a few smaller apps on, if i need to quickly use my camera, the opera is automatically shut down even if im in the middle of something while Messages, pictures or the media player that dont have anything to lose remains!

@aya: were u the one i saw at starcomms?

Posted by chuksy
@Abu Am afraid, like Brym said its a ram issue. You will continue to experience such even with the latest updates.except SE decides to release another (new) update-of which i doubt will happen. The only solution is to open few applications at the same time or if you can afford it - get the P1,its got loads of ram and you can open several applications, all without any hitch.

A final word on the SE v Nokia War:

" A few more models designed in the same fashion should be enough to get the brand’s loyal consumers to switch over to Nokia’s solutions, which have more of Sony Ericsson’s spirit today than Sony Ericsson itself"

Eldar Murtazin on SE W960 review.

@brym!: what makes you think yours is the final word? Expect SE fanboys to contest that submission

Thanks Brym for finding that review. after reading it, I have resolved not to miss that phone. The only hinderance will be price, and with all the "flaws" the price may drop fast.
From the review I gathered that aside from price and egronomics Eldar would've been ok with the w960i.
As for the nokia vs se war, se still wins for me. Reason? though the N81 and N95 which fall in the same category as the W960i neither of them offers me a touchscreen UI, and as such do not tickle my fancy. Plus I find S60 awkward to use.

@brym: anyone can post up bad reviews of any manufacturer and thier phone. It seems the war chiefs of nokia are reprehensive (or is it scared?? ) to go into head-to-head battle. The rules are easy:

RULE 1: PICK ONE NOKIA AND ONE SE PHONE WITHIN THE SAME PRICE RANGE (is within 3k acceptable to everyone?)

RULE 2: SPECS, PROPERTIES AND THIER PERFORMANCES ARE MATCHED UP. (I refrain from adding aesthetics cos beauty is in the eye blah blah...)

RULE 3: THE PHONE WITH THE BEST RESULT (assuming we can ever get to that point!) WINS THE ROUND AND THE POINT FOR ITS MANUFACTURER. THEN WE MOVE ON TO THE NEXT PHONE.

I believe that both manufacturers have enough phones in each stable to urk out 5 or more matches. Is everyone game? If so who proposes the 1st match up? The ball is in team nokia's court.

@pxt: the subscriber was vexing cos he paid for internet access 3wks earlier but hadnt had access from his computer. In normal bad cc fashion, instead of offering to renew his subscription (even though he was at fault for allowing 3wks to pass before complaining) they told him to return the next day. That is when he blew up.

@amby: im still waiting for the celtel postpaid info!

I cannot think of any good reason to compare a phone that is coming soon and one that is available. To cut a long story short i don't base my arguments on another man's views but rather proven facts. A fact is statement that is true all the time. Nokia N95, E90, E61i etc are factual statements of our time.

Posted by abubakar
@pxt: rule 1: choose a se and a nokia phone. I ddnt say which phone. Choose a EXISTING phone within the same price range. Is it so hard? The w960 isnt out so u cant know its price range or its specs.

Posted by abubakar
@pxt: but maybe as the N95, E90 and E61 are ur favs, maybe we should pair them up! i'll go online tomorrow and check prices and determine thier se "counterparts". Hope thier prices have come down.

I was not replying to your post. I was just emphasizing the need to wait for SE W960 to be available before any meaningful comparison is done even if it is against fellow SE P1

@brym!: slow is not the word to describe Celtel GPRS in the last 24 hours. Painfully unreliable is a better term. Funny, but MTN GPRS is performing just as bad. I dread going back to GloDirect!

Posted by brym!
@amby: For me, this comparison puts the 5700 ahead because it is a smartphone. Pick another price range and another set of regular phones. This is all too subjective anyway.
My point has always been that SE has lost that creativeness that produced such innovative phones like T68i, T610 and P800. Eldar statement captures my thoughts better in that review ... Nokia today has more SE spirit than SE itself. I look forward to better days for SE especially now that there's a change of guard at the top.
@AYA: Celtel speed has picked up, I hope it improves further. Damn Glodirect !

Posted by abubakar
@amby: WOW! That was more than i bargained for! I'll go thru the stats and make my choice. Maybe we should narrow it down to the differences only. Anyhow, i would have loved to see a nokia fanatic post on up. It'll be very hard.

@pxt: this isnt to sway anyone to "choose" nokia or se phones. Its just to break the myth of nokia superiority. Im just tired of people knocking on se phones over issues (some credible, some not) and at the same time keep quiet on nokia faults. Thats why i want hard facts to compare the products. As i've said before, it also helps phone prospecters to make thier phone choice. Anyhow, what is ur take on amby's stats?

Posted by brym!
@All: So if price is not a factor which phone will you go for?
Me? These days I'm into smart, slim, light, and touch sensitive things(including phones). So, the HTC Touch would have been it for me. Hawks here in Nigeria are currently selling it for 90k and typical of Windows Mobile devices their prices rarely drops. So what's yours?

Posted by OluYom
Price not being a factor, I won't blink getting a Nokia E90. I'm not excited about the hinges, but the keyboard and huge RAM rocks!

My ideal device, however, would be a device in the form factor of the E61i, but withe everything in the E90 packed in.

Posted by pxthomas
My idea would be E90 with a touch screen, 5mp camera and Gps

Posted by Areafada
E90 for me too.

i asked for the price today @ Slot, Computer village it's N130k i'll ave to wait till around Christmas mayb the price will drop further b4 i buy it, my plans are in advance stages to buy the fone.

More stable? You're kidding; right? Nokia's S60 phones, for example, have a proven track record of being more stable than SE's UIQ products. No; I'm not interested in a brand war. It is just not true that SE phones are more stable than Nokias.

Posted by ambyzown
If price were not a barrier, I would unashamedly pick nokia N95i for its all round versatility. I'd miss the touch screen terribly though.
But this does not change my stance as an SE fan who believes that SE phones give more value for money.

Posted by Areafada
@Ambyzown i want to sell my N95, how much would u like to buy it? i'm sure u r a serious buyer.

hi guys, this might seem a lil off the point, i need to know the name of one black artist in the 80's that sang that "Belinda" song that them Remedies remixed. thanks.
just got another laptop, the other one was stolen, its hp pavillion dv2000, turion x2 1.8ghz,1 gig RAM, 160gig HD, 1.3 webcam, hp imprint finish, wireless mouse.. got it for 140k. i hope i wasnt slapped.
of course i will be slapped but hope i wasnt slapped silly..cheers

Frankly I have no need for a phone right now, but if I had free cash and ur phone isn't badly scratched, I might be willing to pay N40k for it

Posted by chuksy
All is about preference.I've used both nokia and SE.But like i said I prefer SE,for its inovativeness and value for money.Although they had some issues with the p990i,but that has been dealt with in the P1.
And come November, there are series of announcements from SE.
Nonetheless its down to individual preference.

Mamba is here enjoying all the Nokia vs SE war going on.

I used to be a SE loyalist in the past, but I must tell you guys that it actually pays to try other products at times. You just might find out that SE is just not all that eventually.

IMO, HTC TS devices are much better than SE TS devices.

I'm still waiting for nokia TS

You'll get your chance with touchscreen devices from Nokia soon. Nokia has integrated touchscreen functionality into s60 3rd edition. It will appear in handsets from 2008.

That Nokia 3555 is not s60 and is certainly not touchscreen. Plus it looks very uninspiring.

The SE PXi on the other hand oozes class and value on all sides! Gimme one of that!

Actually, I was most impressed by the LG device above. Even Steve Jobs will be impressed by this.

"rant alert!!!!!!!!"

I have been watching the debate about SE and Nokia for sometime and I thought it is not worthwhile to argue about which one has "better" phones. However, I thought I should say this as someone who go for good phones irrespective of brands.

SE, Samsung and Motorola once took market shares from Nokia because Nokia lagged behind in introducing flip, cool and camera phones. But since Nokia wisened up, they have put others where they should have been. Phone for phone, Nokia beat any other manufacturer as things stand today. Arguing otherwise is to allow one's preference to cloud one's judgement.

Windows mobile phones are total minifits, they are powerful PDAs but awful phones. I currently keep an XDA2i as a backup phone in case any of my two regular phones get a problem. I sold an imate k-jam to purchase my SE P990 and inspite of all the iphone hypes, I shelled out my entire annual savings to buy nokia e90, the very week it became available in Nigeria! Windows mobile phones are too much of the same thing. Often shining silver plastics with no real keypad or some funny awkward keyboards that are useful when your phone has been put in some unnatural positions! Interface wise, all WM are the same boring thing with very little attempt at brand differentiation by all manufacturers.

The truth is many of us are not power users. How many people here use wifi, bluetooth, email, web, gps, camera etc on their phones regularly?

How many people here have programmes on their phones other a few games from some bored friends and websites? Why buy a smartphone when all you need is a dumbphone to make calls and send messages?

And a quick poll here!! When was the last time you took a picture with your fanciful camera phone?

Posted by ambyzown
I absolutely agree witrh Aya, that PXi looks really classy, too bad its only a concept.
The LG also looks good, but seems rather fragile.

@Adrussa: I agree with you on some points, but I still maintain that I will get better value for my money from an SE phone compared to a Nokia of the same price. Smart or Dumb.
I regularly use my phone's Camera, MMS Bluetooth Dictionary, Bible and Instant Messenger.

I used my Camera at a wedding this weekend... I got a rare shot of my Granny and her identical Twin Sister. They are so alike that I can't tell them apart until they speak. Priceless.

But, I agree with you... I forget the camera most days of the week.

Your personal opinion, adrusa.
I see a lot of differentiation in keyboard styles and manufacturers' and operators' customization. Among smarphones, the platform has more licensees(manufacturers) than any other platform. Give me your E90 anyday, I'll sell it to buy the HTC Tytn II, not minding the weight.?My only complain is that generally WM devices are over priced relative to other smartphones.
Thank God Microsoft is planning to address this issue soon.?__________
