Surprisingly my W950 is very stable, only one crash so far, it came with the latest firmware.

@area... I still dey enjoy se gist. I think it is prudent of any man to go for a phone that gives him value for his money. Anyway you have not given us a good comparison of e90 and n95. For instance they do not have the same camera resolution. N95 is 5mp and e90is 3mp.

@brym... I nearly forgot why i was here. You can get some shareware keygens from dotsis.com and gsmhosting.com i.e. If you don't want cracks.

@brym & amby...which version of opera mini are you guys talking about-opera mini 3, opera mini 4 beta or amby's fabulous version. Tell us what "Rocks" mean.

@Amby... I got the Hp NX7300 notebook last month. It has 120gb harddisk, 1gb of ram, wlan bluetooth and windows vista ultimate preinstalled but i am having problem with another preinstalled application- roxio easy cd creator. I can't start the application when i am offline. It is blocked. But this is not the case when i am online. When i checked for a solution online i get a reply that this problem was created by Roxio inc. Solution(s) from any angle would be appreciated highly.
Has anybody installed sony ericsson pc suite on windows vista successfully? I wonder if Sp1 coming out soon will correct these incompatibility issues.

@pxt: Browsing in Church? Na wa for you sha!
W950 sells for 30k in Lagos.
i'm using a more recent version of the Operamini 2.0 Mod.
'Rocks' in this context means operamini performs well on W950/M600.
Thanks for the tips on dotsis and gsmhosting, I have to download some apps first thing Monday morning.

@ Pxthomas, may God forgive u, browisng in Church, beside the pastor. Amen.

About Nokia I read in the dailies today (PUNCH) that Nokia was teaming up with a Wifi coy to introduce Nokia 6301 into the french market now and later to the rest of the world, the all new Nokia 6301 is a "convergence of mobile and fixed/landline technologies" combining triband GSM and indoor WI-FI coverage to make calls". wonderful is it? Nokia all the way. Any thing similar to this in SE?

Are they still making phones? Its long since I have sen a new one or even caught an advert on tv.

@pxt samsung is still very active in the uk market infact they regularly have the top spot in best selling phone list..im sure they are stil in nig..the case is probably that advertising dosent increase thier sales significantly and thier profit margin is higher without advertising.....

about the nokia 6301....they are third party apps like frigg that let you make calls over wifi on phones with wifi..so i dont think theres anything special bout it...just a marketing stratergy

Ultra Slim is in for Samsung and so they have slimmmmmed out of Nigeria.

@Mariwun

Making reference to 6301 promo being a marketing strategy, Does that explain the reason why the internet call function in my tool folder on My N95 doesn't work?
Or can anybody educate me on how to make internet calls on my N95 using a WirelessLan internet connection?

thanks

On Samsung: I remember True i was like the first GSM phone with colour screen was back in 2002 or something. I also remember that Samsungs C100 was the biggest selling colour phone for the masses three years ago. Samsung has made some quick bucks in 9ja for sure. These days, they got a few cheapie models that sell well too.

On Nokia: I wonder... will the calls via wifi be free or just cheaper?
Why not just get a pure VOIP phone like the one that uses services like skype? That should give me free calls to other folks on the service. Once I get a proper internet connection, thats what I will go for.

@all Thanks for the Walkman tips, I will loook around. I have tried other phones in the past two years and I am coming back to SE. You just can't get good phones outside SE. BTW: I am yet to own a Nokia!!

Do ya'll remember me, i talked about browsing free with mtn but never gave out the trick, anyway i'm so so sorry i never showed up,that's history now, another trick that works is out, its a beta version v3.0 lol but u can still browse free though with limitations and a little common sense, yahoo and nairaland won't work but there is a way out if u wanna check your yahoo, just get used to flurry.com website, the site i can access free now are bbc, esato, flurry for both my yahoo mail and rss feeds(so news is free), livescore, espn, prodigits e.t.c, if u wanna know more pm me,if u spread the gist too much and it gets blocked, you are on your own o, cos for me i'm gonna browse free till Jesus returns. I hate mtn and i'm ready to run them down, if u wanna know how to use awoof caller tunes too holla me cos i change mine weekly, Lets all come together and run mtn outta business, they are thieves imagine gprs cost still at 60kobo per kb, may satan punish them

Broz, take it easy. E never reach the point of "running them.... outta business". You have a choice of three other networks if you don't like MTN. Hope say them no sack you for job ko?

Don't get personal.

From my experience in this forum, the Guys here don't mind tricks that help them enjoy browsing. Many of us here enjoyed free browsing on Glo, Celtel, MTN and even MTEL. But, no one shares info just to run our GSM networks out of business. By letting us know your motives, it reduces the worth of the great tips/tricks you have.

In case you haven't noticed, apart from me, some Guys here can afford really pricey phones too, so I don't think *paying* for data services is a major problem.

My point: Don't get personal with the networks. If you have something of worth, just state what it is and we will send the pm. I personally don't want to hurt the business of MTN so I will pass up on your great offer at this time.

Meanwhile, a guy like you will be invaluable here... so stick around and let's get to know you better. We got Nokia Guys, Smart phone Guys, Celtel Guys here... maybe you can be our MTN Guy... just joking!!!!!

Posted by dapsycool
I still stick to my words that mtn are great muthafuckers, i wasn't sacked cos i'm still in Uni, though i once did my IT in Celtel, I use both MTN and Celtel, i dislike both but got no choice cos Glo is a piece of crap to me. For fuck's sake why would gprs cost 60kobo per kb, I believe if it's only Mtn that runs business here in 9ja, we'll paying around N100/min, thank God for glo who made us realise per second billing is possible, and Thank God for Celtel who made gprs cost as low as 10kobo per kb, MTN is just like dstv, i hate crooks, they are making shit money outta Nigerians. If 9ja get plenty peeps like me, they either reduce tariff or get the fuck outta 9ja, The Problem with Nigerians is that u manage everything, even daylight robbery,u endure and keep moving(suffering and smiling). That's why i wonder why IBB is still alive, the guy should be kidnapped and killed mercilessly. @ coolapostle, about my info losing value cos of my motives, I don't mind if noone pm, i care less, ciao

In the meantime, just take it easy, ok? At least you like Celtel.

Hmmm. When I was complaining of MTN you people no talk. Now it has reached a point Dapsy wan kill person!!

Posted by coolapostle
On the issue of MTN:
I am really surprised at how long it is taking them to fix their network quality. In times past, they usually fixed things in 1-2 months. But the current crisis has lasted for over 3 months now.

I find it easier to call an MTN line with a Glo line than with an MTN line. The quality is another matter. Even mid-night chats with my fiancee is impossible on MTN. It keeps tripping off and we can't hear each other. Glo on the other hand is manageable.

MTN is playing with fire. Soon the millions who own both Glo and MTN lines will make Glo their primary network. As of today, I can live without my MTN line but I gotta have my Glo ALL day.

I am trying not to sound to dapsyish.

@all Since no one bothered to post anything: Happy Independence Day to you all! May God never make us be like Nigeria when we get to 47!

Like brym! said to him, "See you next year?"

Back to MTN wahala, we cant blame them. They are in it for the money. The onus rests with our N C C. If they fail to protect us we need to hold them accountable. When thieves come to ur compound do you blame them or the police who refuse to patrol after 6 pm?

Posted by ambyzown
My attitude towards the Networks has been "use the useable" When MTN isn't giving me the satisfaction I require, I switch to Glo. My Celtel remains permanently on in my M600 (for data access mostly) and voice calls if the network is ok. You guys should emulate me and stop complaining. These service providers know that when the network quality is bad they will lose revenue. So let them feel the impact of poor service delivery by not using their services.

I use the Naija Version of the russian mod.
It rocks on UIQ3 because of the touchscreen and its excellent navigation. Access to and interaction with the phone's OS is flawless and time saving. multiple web page browsing is a breeze. The speed is good too. I'm yet to see a better browser for handheld devices. (And I have used quite a few)

Excellent question. If I purchased an iPhone, I'd be regretting it under 30 minutes of usage. Of course, I know there'll always be people who'd love the Apple toy to the death. Cool phone; but that's just it. Nothing more than that.

Anyone with news on 3G on any of the GSM networks? Celtel once again shifted date of activating GPRS on all lines.

Posted by mariwun
my only problem with the iphone is lack of 3g and a2dp(which i use extensively)..and its a bit overpriced since its only available yankee for $399 and in london it costs between £300-400 for 8gb since there is no 3g in nig its an excellent phone...i used to be skeptical about it till i played with one...i was so impressed i went to buy one and this is my first apple product i never owned an ipod since my w900 and w950i did better jobs....so im telling u guys it is not a hype the phone is really good..if it was nokia or sony ericsson that made this product it would be an instant classic..i was gonna get a w960i but its taking too long to come out since i needed a phone immediately...dont knock it till u try it

Posted by brym!
@mariwun: na wa o, you already have W900 & W950 and you still went for the iphone? You and areafada na the same...N93, N95 and E90.
My new criteria for smartphones are:
slimfit (less than 16mm),
light (less than 120g),
music-centrtc (with more than 2gb mem)
big screen (min of 2.6" & 320x240 pixel display),
finally, a great bargain price.
So you already know my next phone:
yes, a bug free W960 in...em 18 months time.

You haven't told us exactly what it is good at. Most of us here are smartphone power users. The iPhone may have a sleek interface, but it certainly falls short in many things I use my smartphone for. That's why it holds no real attraction for me. I'm not knocking it - its just not for me.

Unfortunately, browsers don't work in isolation. The iPhone browser is of no good to me without an adequate text entry system e.g. A QWERTY keyboard. Text entry on the iPhone is crazy, especially if you have to post on a forum like this, or do some of the more advanced stuff I do with the E61.

This cramped data entry issue should limit emailing and SMS on the iPhone the same way.

Plus any device that does not allow use of Opera mini or provide the same compression technology and versatility is suspect. Without Opera mini, my GPRS bills will hit the roof.

Finally, the lack of 3rd party apps - java or otherwise - just places the iPhone in a box. Why its called a smartphone by some beats me.

Simple and short.

I'm in search of mobile broadband. Any news on 3G? The CDMA guys making noise about EVDO are not offering full mobility i.e. Direct access and usage on mobile devices, and their coverage is still pretty limited. Starcomms EVDO, for example, is not available at my location. Help!
