Get an 0808 line. Activation of 0802 lines can be problematic. Some 0802 have GPRS access, while others just dont. But all 0808 I have requested settings for were browsing in minutes.
As for Mtel, I have never been a believer in Transcorp. In my opinion, they are more of a ghost corp. We'll watch and see how things turn out.

Ok.But how do I request for the settings,as in which code do I send and where to?Again,I wouldn't know if my location plays a part as I'm in onitsha now.

Ife: I don't think Celtel's current GPRS coverage extends to Onitsha or Asaba. I can confirm that of Asaba from my last visit there a few weeks ago. The amazing thing is that throughout the trial period there was adequate coverage.
Even Glo's superb coverage of that city has become epileptic. I still don't understand whats gwan?

@all: pardon my absence! the hustle is killing me!
i am tired of 3G promises! the way telephony was for the elites in the preGSM era is the way data/internet is now. no real attempt is being made by the GSM/PTO companies to make it widely available and cheap as they dont want to invest in extra infrastructure. like i said last time, its thier low
penetration high skimming marketing scheme.

...And so we wait with bated breath for Glo Broadband and Telkom/Multi-links to bring internet to the main stream. I had thot Abuja-based Rosecom would do the magic with its ADSL promise but I didn't factor in that they were depending on NITEL's undersea cable. A superb failure.
Now the latest is that the new commsat would solve all our internet/communications problems.... well, we wait.
Any advice for OBJ as he packs his bags?

I am fast learning not to wait for anybody to do anything in this country. I use what is available, and anytime new entrants come in, if its up my alley, fine. If not, too bad. One develops that attitude after a couple of disappointments.

A failure indeed, like all things government-run here. Shame.

@aya ...please can N71 take 2gb miniSD card?

I expect that if what it has is a miniSD slot, then the capacity wouldn't make any difference. It should be compatible, but one way to make sure of this is to try it out before you make the purchase, if possible.

@pxt: The specs info on Gsmarena says it supports cards up to 2GB. Really, what do you need a 2GB card for?
I am using a 1GB miniSD card and I still have 255MB free space after adding the ff:
over 90 mp3 and wma songs,
over 25 short videos in various formats,
over 100 vga size pictures,
over 20 free WM apps,
over 15 pdf files,
over 50 numerous word and excel files,
and more...
I'll advise you to buy the 1GB card because when you upgrade to another N series, the card may not be compartible since all new N series have microSD as default.

@Ife: Boy, what can I say? I am browsing full time with Celtel's GPRS and I am 'live in Asaba'.
@pxt: Still no coverage in your area? On my way here I discovered that the Benin-Asaba road is effectively covered by Celtel's Gprs. The coverage of the Sagamu-Benin road is still poor even for voice calls. I got Gprs signals at Ore and Ijebu-Ode but no signal at Sagamu.
@all: Have a great week ahead with President Yar'Adua and ex President Obasanjo both of People's Wuruwuru Party.

@Brym: I'm surprised it took this long for you to pick Celtel gprs in Asaba. I used gprs at Asaba as far back as November 2006 when it was still free. Maybe they deactivated it for a while. Anyway good for u. I hope Pxt and Ifedisky will be able to pick signals at their locations now.
I saw a beautiful WM device on saturday, and instantly fell in love with it. Its an iPaq, but didn't have enough time to fondle it so as to determine the model number, but it was smaller than the P910 and a beauty to look at. I wouldn't mind such a device windows mobile OS or not.
Posted by brym!
@amby: As I mentioned in an earlier post, there was signal all through the free browsing period but it was deactivated at the end of the free trial, and only swithed on again just recently. I am excited because I realy do not need to use GloDirect here again.
The WM device you played with may have been one of the Ipaq 68 series PPCs similar to the Imate Jam. They are fine and very funtional devices, the drawback as with other WM devces is their pretty steep prices.

@brym!Please pm me the configuration settings okay.Gotta provision my line first isn't it?
@ambyzown:You sure did fall for that gizmo!Fondle?!!
@all:By jove MTN has been barbing every Gprs user GORIMAPA with thier billing.I always notice my credit exhausts faster with mtn than with glo even when I, approximately, use them to browse similar sites but I never had the presence of mind to check. Now, gentlemen!(& a few ladies) I've caught the big thieves!.I opened a page in my yahoo account and they billed #10.Opening the same page on glo costs #5! and they're both supposed to be charging 60k per kb!Subsequent browsing points to the fact that for every 500 recharge and browsing mtn dubiously deduct between 100-150 illegally.I Called their customer service severally and each time they'll tell me to call back because their system is down. Can anyone check and confirm this?I think Ncc must hear this o.Or what do you think guys?

@ifedisky: I'm not sure of the current GPRS tariffs on Glo and MTN for prepaid lines, so I really cannot comment on your experiences. Someone else may fill us in on that.
Posted by Ifedisky
@AYA:I Can confirm MTN's charge is 60k per kb.Same as Glo.A customer service personnel said as much.
@brym!:Thanks for the pm.However, all I got is a welcome text but no configuration message nor GPRS signal.Have to check out a 0808 line tomorrow

For celtel settings, just send wapgprs or internetgprs phonemake phonemodel to +232.
APN is wap.ng.celtel.com or internet.ng.celtel.com
Ip address for wap is 172.018.254.005
Proxy is 8080 or 9201
I guess that's all you would need because username and password doesnt matter. The good part of it is that it's 10kobo per kb so enjoy

Mamba i already have dat info, what dapsy is talking about if am right is a setting that is free of charge, Dapsy if d setting u talking about is d same wit mamba's dont bother.

Abeg stop teasing. Either let ppl pm u or relax and chop alone. One thing I know is that nothing is a "sercet" for long. Someone will probably post it in nairaland or prodigits sooner or later.
@All The Glo CC folks are confused. They sent me to their Gloworld office to have my LG configured. The Gworld lady first yabbed me b4 proceeding to "fix" the settings for me. When it didn't work, she said the "server was down since yesterday". That was last week.

@dapsy, use private message to send us the procedure for the two networks let's enjoy with you. Abi you wan chop alone? Share the info bro.

@Coola:Glo customercare are a lousy bunch. I've been trying to get Glo to credit my line with N4,000 rebate promised to those postpaid savings-plus plan customers who hit the 4k limit consistenly for six months, it has been a Maradonna dribbling for three months now. After several visits and emails they referred me to credit control for verification. Now those guys at credit control are yet to contact me. I am considering reporting this issue to NCC. It took two months of sending reminders to Glo to get my first instalment last year. [ This Message was edited by: brym! on 2007-05-30 16:36 ]

Has anyone here called CC in any network abroad? Is it as bad to get thru? The CC connection nightmare are the biggest failure in our six years of GSM.

@brym!: I concur that Glo corporate care are generally useless - with the exceptions of a few occassions. I have been toying with the idea of terminating my contract. The only thing holding me back is the determination not to be rash about it.
@pxthomas: PM for you

@Dapsy:pm me o!

@Ifedisky: have u succeeded in configuring ur phone for gprs via celtel?
How about u Pxt?
@Brym: since u are the ranking authority on WM/PPC devices here, I'm directing this question to u. where can I fix a dead T-mobile MDA (HTC Innovation) here in lagos? I'm expecting an answer from u this time cos u didn't answer my last two questions on WM/PPC
Posted by brym!
@amby: Na lie, I answered you. And, I did give a possible solution to this problem in the 'other manufactures' thread where you initially posted it.
Now, is your device a T-Mobile MDA Compact (Imate Jam) or a T-Mobile MDA(Imate KJam) because there is nothing like HTC Innovation? HTC Innovation is a like a slogan. If it is any of these two I can give you my batteries to test the unit and see if it will power on. Otherwise check Cellulary @ Saka Tinubu St, VI (0I3200163). AYA can help you with this other company at Obalende.

@all... I registered for opera mini dimension beta some days ago. Does any guy here have genuine info of this upcoming opera mini?
Secondly, series 60v3 user should check out these softwares: phone guardian, alon mp3 dictaphone and power boot.

That should be HTC Universal, also branded as T-Mobile MDA Pro or MDA IV. My batteries are not compartible with this device.
So, check up Cellulary . His mobile is 0803 4040 400. The other company is McDorsey, located along Moloney St. Obalande: 012636220,018904181 & 0802 309 4257.
Hope this helps.

o boi that phone (htc universal) is quite big o..its actually been around for almost 2 years now...i remember when it came out i was salivating for it..but then guys were broke as a joke.but its quite a big phone.might be a bit hard to use the qwerty keypad though since there is no spacing between keys

@amby: Yeah Larry Ayoub! Maybe you should see him before checking McDorsey.

I have refused to dance to Glo's tune over a few decisions they have recently taken. My intention is to observe things for a few months before deciding whether to ditch them completely or retain the line. In the meantime it is dormant.

Hi All! I was at the Civic Centre, V.I for the launching of Blackberry service by MTN. Boy, I was impressed by MTN's offering. Device: 8100(Pearl) is N65K 8700 is N63K Monthly Service Charge for individual is N5K. The Monthly Service charge includes unlimited access to the web(24/7) and your email accounts. And, I had a feel of the Blackberry 'Pearl' and connected to Esato. It's one cool, slim, light and functional device worth owning if I wasn't tied to Windows Mobile . My attendant also informed me that one can still connect to the service with any Blackberry device sourced outside MTN. What about other devices with Blackberry Connect facility? No support yet for that. To connect with your Blackberry device, text BIS to 2100. Enquiries to 216. Meanwhile, Glomobile's 'BLUEBLOOD' relic Blackberry device sells for N60k. Activation is N10k, security deposit is N20k and monthly service charge is 10k. And this is restricted to postpaid customers. I LOVE COMPETITION, thanks MTN.
